Ish Smith came close to recording a triple-double on Tuesday vs. the Kings, scoring 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting with eight boards, seven assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 30 minutes.
Smith did have seven turnovers and the shooting obviously wasn't great, but it's tough to complain about this line for a guy that was sitting on waivers in most leagues just a few weeks ago. Isaiah Canaan did score 13 points in 19 minutes tonight, but it's clear that head coach Brett Brown trusts Smith more at the moment. If you can handle his turnovers and his inefficient shooting, Smith is worth owning in most leagues. Mar 25 - 1:05 AM

Date:

Ish Smith started Sunday's game but had only nine points on 3-of-14 shooting, two rebounds, nine assists and four turnovers in 29 minutes.

The assists are nice and the best news, if you can call it that, is that backup PG Isaiah Canaan was even worse, shooting 1-of-12 from the field in 22 minutes. This timeshare at PG is doing neither player any favors in fantasy leagues, but Smith has enough upside to warrant holding onto in most 9-cat and all 8-cat leagues.
Mar 23 - 12:41 AM

Ish Smith scored 15 points on 7-of-16 shooting (including a three) with four rebounds, nine assists and two steals in Friday's win over the Knicks.

Smith has taken over as the starting point guard and by all appearances it's a job he can keep for the rest of the year, with Isaiah Canaan fitting in as a scorer off the bench. Owners should view Smith as a late-round guy with the potential for mid-round value, which he has returned this past week in just 26 mpg.
Mar 21 - 12:04 AM

Ish Smith started against the Pistons on Wednesday with 15 points, one rebound, eight assists, three steals, one block and three turnovers in 26 minutes.

He seems to have unseated Isaiah Canaan as the starter and getting 26 minutes tonight is a good sign for him. Plus, he played great while Canaan struggled off the bench. Smith looks like the better player to own over Canaan and is worth a look for anyone needing a point guard.
Mar 18 - 11:04 PM

Ish Smith will start against the Pistons on Wednesday and Isaiah Canaan will come off the bench.

He'll join Jason Richardson, JaKarr Sampson, Luc Mbah a Moute and Nerlens Noel in the starting lineup. Coach Brett Brown previously said he likes Smith as a backup, but he's clearly outplayed Canaan lately. In his last five, Smith averaged 13.4 points, 6.0 dimes, 1.0 steals and 1.2 treys. He's worth a look in standard leagues.
Mar 18 - 5:26 PM

Ish Smith came off the bench against the Nets on Saturday with nine points, two rebounds, five assists, two steals and one 3-pointer on 3-of-10 from the field.

He's been solid in his last five, averaging 13.0 points, 6.6 dimes, 1.0 steals and 1.0 treys. On the downside, Smith made just 36.8 percent from the field and will have that issue going forward. For what it's worth, he's a better player to own than Trey Burke in standard leagues.
Mar 14 - 10:59 PM

Ish Smith scored 10 points on 3-of-11 shooting with five rebounds, nine assists and one steal in 25 minutes off the bench on Friday.

Smith and starter Isaiah Canaan (seven points, five assists, 23 minutes) were restricted to just the point guard bucket of minutes tonight, which was a departure from Wednesday's game. The Kings run a pretty big backcourt and things can change quickly in Philly, so we'll see if this becomes a trend, but for now Smith is worth a hard look for some late-round value.
Mar 13 - 10:51 PM

Ish Smith started over Isaiah Canaan (illness, but played 30 minutes) and had a season-high 23 points, six assists and three 3-pointers in 37 minutes.

It sounds like the Sixers still plan on starting Canaan, but then again, that's certainly not set in stone. Canaan played 30 minutes and had 20 points and four 3-pointers, so don't do anything rash with him, as he wasn't feeling well tonight. Smith is worth speculative add in case he keeps the job, but this could end up being his best game of the season, as well. Even when coming off the bench, Smith has played well, scoring in double figures with solid assists in four of his last six games.
Mar 11 - 11:21 PM

Ish Smith will start on Wednesday against the Bulls on Wednesday with Isaiah Canaan off the bench.

Canaan may be a little under the weather even though he's going to be available tonight. Coach Brett Brown previously has said that he really likes Smith as a backup, so this move suggests Canaan isn't 100 percent. Smith has decent averages over his last five of 11.0 points, 2.6 boards, 5.6 dimes, 0.4 steals and 0.6 treys. He's worth a look if you're desperate tonight.
Mar 11 - 5:23 PM

Ish Smith played 15 minutes against the Thunder on Wednesday with two points, one rebound, one assist, one block and one turnover.

Isaiah Canaan was on fire tonight, so coach Brett Brown kept Smith on the bench. Smith is going to backup Canaan for the rest of the season, so he is going to have some inconsistency. He's only worth a look in deep leagues.
Mar 5 - 12:59 AM

Ish Smith scored 19 points with five rebounds, nine assists and one 3-pointer in 27 minutes against the Raptors on Monday.

Coach Brett Brown already said that he likes Smith as a backup point guard, so he's not going to leapfrog Isaiah Canaan for the starting gig. That doesn't necessarily mean he won't outproduce him. In his last two games, he's averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 boards, 7.0 boards and 1.0 treys. He is worth a look in 16-team leagues.
Mar 3 - 12:10 AM

Ish Smith took over at PG to start the second half vs. Indiana on Sunday, posting 11 points, one 3-pointer, four rebounds and five assists in the Sixers' loss.

Smith is a career 38.6 percent shooter and fantasy owners should be extremely wary of his 47.4 percent free throw shooting this season. He's a decent speculative add for deep-league owners seeking a point guard, but his starting job isn't guaranteed and we wouldn't cut anyone of value to get him.
Mar 1 - 9:27 PM

Ish Smith started the second half in place of Isaiah Canann on Sunday vs. the Pacers.

Canaan has struggled with his conditioning and hasn't exactly looked comfortable running the point in Philly, but head coach Brett Brown has been known to shake things up occasionally. Smith was averaging 6.3 points, 5.3 assists and 1.3 steals in his previous three performances with the 76ers, but owners in most leagues should use a wait-and-see approach here.
Mar 1 - 7:41 PM

Ish Smith made his 76ers debut on Monday, scoring seven points with three rebounds, seven assists, three steals and four turnovers in 24 minutes.

He has already leapfrogged Tim Frazier and he logged some minutes next to Frazier and Canaan tonight. Smith could be looking at around 27 minutes per game with his new team, but he's only worth a look in deep leagues. Additionally, this is his eighth team in five seasons.
Feb 23 - 10:50 PM

The 76ers claimed guard Ish Smith on Sunday and have waived forward Malcolm Thomas.

Smith was recently waived by the Pelicans after they acquired Norris Cole in a trade, but he has a decent shot at minutes in Philadelphia so owners in deeper leagues can put him on their radar. Isaiah Canaan will get every opportunity to succeed as the starting PG in Philly for now, so Smith still has a lot of work to do before we can recommend an add.
