Ish Smith scored 15 points with two rebounds two assists and one 3-pointer in 20 minutes against the Pacers on Friday.
He did get some run next to Reggie Jackson late in this game, but it was more of a desperation move from coach Stan Van Gundy. Smith continues to get to around 20 minutes and he's been somewhat sneaky over his last five, averaging 11.4 points, 3.2 boards, 4.6 assists and 1.0 turnovers. He's not doing much else, so he's better for 16-team leagues. Nov 17 - 9:25 PM

Ish Smith had four points, four rebounds and four assists during Wednesday's loss to the Bucks, shooting 2-of-11 from the field in 26 minutes of action.

Smith closed out this game ahead of Reggie Jackson, but before anyone gets excited, Stan Van Gundy said afterward, "neither [Pistons] point guard played very well." In other words, this doesn't change Smith's outlook and he's just an assists specialist in deep leagues.
Nov 16 - 12:07 AM

Ish Smith scored 17 points with three rebounds, five assists and one 3-pointer in 19 minutes against the Hawks on Friday.

He's scored in double digits in six straight games as one of the most productive backups in the NBA. Smith has also been solid on the efficiency side of things and he's not turning the ball over as much either. Smith is more like a DFS punt, but he does have some low-end value for PG-needy owned in deeper leagues.
Nov 10 - 9:44 PM

Ish Smith helped the Pistons steal a 115-107 win on Sunday, coming off the bench for 16 points and two assists, making 6-of-7 field goals and 4-of-4 free throws.

Smith logged 18 minutes, compared to 30 minutes for starting PG Reggie Jackson, who was also effective with 22 points, five dimes and three rebounds in 30 minutes. Jackson is asserting himself as easily the better guard to own, with higher upside and the starting job in hand, while Smith is best viewed as a handcuff.
Oct 29 - 11:40 PM

Ish Smith handed out 13 assists in 22 minutes on Wednesday, while starting PG Reggie Jackson added 10 points, four assists and two rebounds in 25 minutes.

As we feared before the season, this is turning into a persistent timeshare at PG for the Pistons. R-Jax has enough offensive punch to maintain value, and while he's healthy it will be hard to trust Smith in 12-team leagues. Ish has yet to make a 3-pointer this season, and before tonight he was averaging a modest 3.5 assists per game.
Oct 25 - 11:03 PM

Ish Smith scored 12 points with three rebounds, three assists and one steal in 16 minutes against the Wizards on Friday.

He had arguably one of the best preseasons for point guards, but now Reggie Jackson seems to have things figured out. With R-Jax now healthy, Smith is looking more like a handcuff.
Oct 20 - 11:44 PM

Ish Smith hit 10-of-14 shots for 22 points, three boards, eight assists, two steals and two blocks in 21 minutes off the bench on Tuesday.

Reggie Jackson started and had six points and two assists in 20 minutes, but Smith was the man tonight. The two point guards figure to be in a timeshare all season, but if you draft Jackson, you should probably go ahead and handcuff Smith to him. Jackson's had trouble staying healthy throughout his career and Ish would become a must-own player if he goes down.
Oct 10 - 9:28 PM

Ish Smith scored 14 points (6-of-11 FGs) with nine assists, one rebound and one block in 22 minutes vs. the Pacers on Monday.

Reggie Jackson (knee) was back in action and looked solid with 14 points and six assists, so Smith returned to his bench role tonight. Jackson obviously isn't the most durable player and Smith could potentially turn this position battle into a timeshare, but he isn't worth drafting outside of deeper leagues as an assists specialist for now.
Oct 9 - 9:37 PM

Ish Smith started Wednesday's exhibition and had 10 points, seven assists, three steals and one block in 31 minutes of action.

Reggie Jackson was held out due to knee tendinitis and an adductor injury, though an MRI on his adductor came back negative for structural damage. Smith proved last season that he's capable of leading the Pistons' offense if called upon, and if nothing else he's a solid handcuff for Jackson in deep leagues.
Oct 4 - 10:33 PM

Ish Smith said he's expecting to see a dip in minutes if Reggie Jackson returns to form next season.

Smith played 24.1 minutes per game last season and made 31 starts with Jackson sidelined, posting averages of 9.4 points, 5.2 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists. While Smith is a quality backup PG, he's not a great fantasy asset because he doesn't shoot 3-pointers and isn't the most efficient player from the field or the line. He said that he's been working on his mid-range and 3-point shot, but it's hard to get excited about his outlook with fewer minutes on the horizon. Standard-league owners should look elsewhere in drafts.
Aug 3 - 11:30 AM

Ish Smith finished with 11 points, seven assists and two rebounds across 27 minutes in Sunday's 103-90 win against the Grizzlies.

Smith has been tremendous in terms of assists-to-turnover ratio this season, and he has turned up the intensity on the offensive end lately, too. He has double-digit points in a season-high seven consecutive games, averaging 16.9 points, 5.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game during the span.
Apr 9 - 10:50 PM

The Pistons fell to the Raptors on Wednesday after a four-day break, despite getting 16 points, six assists, four rebounds and one block from Ish Smith.

Stan Van Gundy strongly hinted that Reggie Jackson (knee) won't play again this season, saying, "This is just the start of a long offseason of getting himself to not only get physically right, but to mentally recharge." That leaves Smith in the driver's seat for the Pistons' final five games.
Apr 5 - 10:34 PM

Ish Smith scored 16 points on 7-of-20 from the field with five assists, four rebounds and two triples in 32 minutes vs. the Bucks on Friday.

The Pistons have lost nine out of their last 11 games, but coach Stan Van Gundy praised Smith for "playing unencumbered every night." SVG added that Smith's "spirit is right," and it looks like he's going to be the starter the rest of the way -- SVG still hasn't decided if Reggie Jackson (knee) will play again this season. If you own Smith, just keep in mind that the Pistons don't play again until Apr. 5.

Mar 31 - 11:59 PM

Ish Smith scored 21 points with six rebounds, five assists, one block and three 3-pointers in 32 minutes against the Nets on Thursday.

He came through in the clutch with seven points in the final three minutes of this game to avoid what would have been a devastating lost to the NBA's worst team. Reggie Jackson has missed the last three games and there's no word of him getting back out there, so Smith should continue to see minutes in the low 30s. He could destroy you in field goal percentage, but Smith is worth owning for anyone needing a point guard.
Mar 30 - 10:27 PM

Ish Smith made another start and Reggie Jackson sat out again on Tuesday, and Smith finished with 19 points and six assists on 7-of-13 shooting.

He's played very well in two straight games and with talk of Jackson being shut down for good this season, Smith is as must-own as they come in all formats right now.
