GM Ernie Grunfeld continued to put the heat on Jan Vesely to improve during the offseason.
"He needs to do better, he needs to improve and he needs to find a way to get that confidence back," Grunfeld said. Grunfeld is the one who picked Vesely sixth overall, so he needs to look in the mirror as well. "He needs to be out on the court, he needs to be playing. That's a way to build up confidence and have success in game-time situations." Vesely won't get on the court if he can't improve his still incredibly raw game. Teammate A.J. Price confirmed Vesely struggles from confidence issues. May 13 - 2:01 PM

GM Ernie Grunfeld said it's a "big summer" for Jan Vesely, Trevor Booker, Kevin Seraphin and Chris Singleton.

This is the same sentiment expressed by Randy Wittman right around when the season ended, so we're not surprised to hear it again. "They all need to improve, they all need to work hard." It wouldn't surprise us to see the Wizards put all four on the trade block during the offseason as the team reshapes its roster.
Apr 24 - 8:04 AM

Randy Wittman said Jan Vesely "needs to work on his head first" before improving other elements of his game.

Ouch. Vesely's second season was another lost year, and it's looking very much like the Wizards wasted the No. 6 overall pick in 2011. As a reminder, that's the same draft that saw Klay Thompson picked 11th, Kawhi Leonard 15th, Nikola Vucevic 16th, Iman Shumpert 17th, Tobias Harris 19th and Kenneth Faried at 22. It's safe to say the Wizards could have done better.
Apr 18 - 1:46 PM

Randy Wittman said Jan Vesely is "going to continue to work" to improve his game.

Vesely played 20 minutes on Sunday, the most he's played since January 14 in a blowout over the Magic. Despite Vesely racking up nine points, eight boards, a steal and a block on Sunday, he's going to have to do a lot more to see the rotation consistently, let alone come into any kind of fantasy value.
Apr 1 - 9:05 AM

Jan Vesely is averaging 2.7 points and 2.4 rebounds this season and still can't crack the rotation.

Vesely was the No. 6 pick in 2011 and the Wizards might just have to come to the realization that he's not a good basketball player. "He's got to be a guy that plays confidently," Randy Wittman said. We're not sure if Vesely is capable of doing that. Wittman is giving Vesely lip service to build his confidence, but he looks lost during games and incapable of ever living up to his draft stock.
Mar 12 - 9:16 AM

Jan Vesely, who is not in the rotation, said that he's just trying to "stay ready."

Vesely, the No. 6 overall pick in 2011, has been a total bust for the Wizards. "These days are important," Randy Wittman said. "You've got to show me, when you're going through these kind of things, you've got to show me that you're fighting." Vesely is not worth owning in any format.
Feb 20 - 12:43 PM

Jan Vesely has played a total of 13 minutes since Jan. 26.

When the Wizards finally got healthy, Vesely fell out of the rotation. It's an awful sign for a player that has shown no shred of offensive ability through two years in the NBA. The Wizards passed on the likes of Brandon Knight, Kemba Walker, Kenneth Faried and Klay Thompson when they took Vesely sixth overall in 2011.
Feb 19 - 5:04 PM

Jan Vesely picked up a DNP-CD vs. the Clippers on Saturday.

The Wizards' frontcourt is suddenly healthy, with Nene (12 points in 28 minutes) locked into the starting PF job and Trevor Booker (21 minutes) filling the backup spot. Vesely's energy and impressive baseline-to-baseline speed may be called upon in spurts, but for now he's on the outside looking in.
Jan 20 - 1:28 AM

Jan Vesely matched his season high with 10 points to go with seven boards, four assists and one steal in 25 minutes during the Wizards' 120-91 win over the Magic.

He did have five fouls in 25 minutes, which is an improvement from the five fouls he had in just five minutes on Saturday. Vesely is known for having 10 fouls in a summer league game and we'd need to see several games before putting him on the radar in most formats.
Jan 14 - 10:11 PM

Randy Wittman said that he's been impressed with Jan Vesely's recent play.

"Jan has played the way I want to see him play these last couple of games," Wittman said. Vesely had six points, two rebounds and a block in 17.5 minutes on January 6, while he had 10 points, even rebounds and a block in 20.5 minutes on January 7. He needs to show far greater consistency to remain in the rotation permanently, let alone amass fantasy value.
Jan 11 - 10:09 AM

Jan Vesely has fallen completely out of the Wizards' rotation, but the team isn't planning to send him to the D-League.

John Wall's absence is hurting Vesely, whose flaws are obscured when he can simply outrun the defense, but the problems go deeper than one missing teammate. "It's tough for everybody to stay positive," Vesely said. "I can't say how you can stay positive. I just try not to think about it too much." We can add 'lack of confidence' to the problems ailing Vesely.

Jan Vesely has recorded more fouls (34) than points (29) or rebounds (30) this season, and Randy Wittman criticized him for being "non-aggressive" while on the court.

"He needs to play better. No question," said Wittman, who is understandably at his wit's end with the 1-13 Wizards. In addition to his general lack of activity, the second-year forward has missed 10 of his 13 FT attempts, including a few airballs.
Sun, Dec 2, 2012 12:36:00 PM

Jan Vesely played 22 minutes in another start at power forward on Monday against the Pacers, scoring five points on 2-of-4 shooting with two rebounds and one assist.

This feels like the Wizards giving him one last chance to show his stuff before they pack it in, even if they simply like him better with the most recent starting unit. Either way, he has no value in most formats.
Tue, Nov 20, 2012 12:54:00 AM

Jan Vesely played 22 minutes in a start at PF on Saturday, replacing Trevor Booker, and he finished with five points, five rebounds and two blocks.

Vesely came into this game averaging 2.4 points, while racking up a ridiculous 3.0 personal fouls per 14 minutes. He looked better tonight but was inexplicably absent from the rotation down the stretch, and we're leaving him on the waiver wire until he shows us something.
Sat, Nov 17, 2012 09:40:00 PM

Jan Vesely will start at power forward for the Wizards on Saturday.

Trevor Booker will come off the bench. Vesely has been quiet so far this year with just 2.4 points per game in only 13.4 minutes. He was a threat to start during training camp, but it was squandered by sub-par play. We still like Kevin Seraphin as a more valuable asset in the Wizards frontcourt and perhaps he logs bigger minutes with the second unit.
