Coach Quin Snyder said Alec Burks (ankle) is expected to miss the next 1-2 months
He is out indefinitely due to his arthroscopic surgery to debride his left ankle. Burks has been hurt for most of his time in the past two seasons and also had a knee procedure this summer. He's not worth stashing almost anywhere and could be a trade candidate once he's healthy. Nov 24 - 7:25 PM

Alec Burks underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure Tuesday to debride his left ankle and will remain out indefinitely.

The procedure was performed in New York City by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Martin O’Malley. This is a tough blow for Burks and the Jazz. Burks had arthroscopic surgery to clean out debris in his left knee and ankle in early June, but it was said to be a minor procedure. There were reports last month that his rehab was progressing nicely. Obviously, he suffered a setback somewhere along the line. Burks should be dropped in all re-draft leagues.

Nov 1 - 6:15 PM

Alec Burks (knee, ankle) sat out vs. the Clippers on Sunday, as expected.

Burks has no definitive timetable and we've heard nothing about him practicing. We're considering him 'out indefinitely' and should have plenty of advance warning before he makes his season debut. He belongs on the waiver wire until further notice.
Oct 31 - 2:19 AM

Alec Burks (knee, ankle) will not play Friday vs. Houston.

We haven't been given an updated timetable on when to expect Burks back, as he is still rehabbing from knee and ankle surgeries. It is safe to leave him on the waiver wire for now.
Oct 28 - 2:19 PM

Alec Burks (knee, ankle) is out for the regular-season opener against Portland.

He's out indefinitely and obviously never had a shot of suiting up for tonight's game. Leave him on the wire.
Oct 25 - 2:22 PM

Alec Burks (knee and ankle surgeries) is still not practicing with the team.

Burks is out indefinitely and not much of a fantasy consideration given all of Utah's depth. It's not yet clear when he may be able to return to the court.
Oct 22 - 3:14 PM

Alec Burks (knee and ankle surgeries) "went hard" during an after practice agility work session on Sunday, according to Tony Jones of the Salt Lake Tribune.

Burks still hasn't been able to practice with the team, or take any contact, so his status for opening night is very much in jeopardy. Utah has a ton of depth at the guard positions this year, so it's going to be tough for Burks to make a difference in fantasy hoops.
Oct 16 - 3:16 PM

Alec Burks (knee and ankle surgeries) is without a timetable to return.

Burks hasn't been cleared for contact, and it's extremely troubling that his rehabilitation is taking so long given his recent injury history. "There's no way for us to predict day-by-day when he will return," Snyder said. "He's making progress and he's doing everything he can to get back. But he's not at the point where he can return, yet." Given the revamped Jazz roster, there is no reason to recommend targeting Burks in fantasy leagues.
Oct 8 - 4:40 PM

Quin Snyder said that Alec Burks (knee surgery, ankle surgery) is making "good progress" in his recovery, and he anticipates him being cleared for contact by the start of the regular season.

"From what I'm told and what I see, there's good progress, especially in the last week or so," said Snyder of Burks. "I think it gets to a point where we're going to see it go quicker... that would be my hope." Snyder went on to say that the Jazz are focusing on "the next 12 years over the next 12 months," with regards to how they handle Burks' rehab, and that Burks has been participating in everything except for the contact portions of practice. However, the injury concerns partnered with the arrival of Joe Johnson make Burks an undesirable target in most settings.

Alec Burks (knee surgery, ankle surgery) has still not been cleared for contact.

Burks has been going through everything other than the contact portions of practice, but the fact that he's still not been fully cleared to play despite being three months removed from the arthroscopic procedure is concerning. Burks has had some serious issues with his surgically repaired left ankle, and he only managed to make it through 58 games over the past two years, so he's not going to be worth drafting in standard leagues. For what it's worth, Quin Snyder said he's hopeful Burks will be cleared for opening night.
Sep 27 - 4:08 PM

Alec Burks said he is expecting to shoot more this season.

"I’m still going to be fearless," Burks said. "I’m still going to the same things I do." Burks set a career high 25.9 usage rate last year in his 31 games, but his efficiency has dropped in each of his last two seasons. With all the depth on the Jazz, it's hard to target Burks in most formats.
Sep 26 - 6:08 PM

Alec Burks (knee, ankle) is expected to be healthy for training camp.

He had arthroscopic surgery to clean out debris in his left knee and ankle in early June, but it was said to be a minor procedure. Burks has had some tough luck with injuries in his career, and the addition of George Hill and return of Dante Exum (knee) from injury means that his minutes could take a hit next season.
Jun 26 - 11:18 AM

Alec Burks underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to clean out debris in his left knee and ankle on Tuesday.

This is the same ankle that Burks underwent surgery on this past season, and while he is expected to make a full recovery well before training camp, it's concerning to see Burks go under the knife yet again. Health has been a constant issue for Burks throughout his five-year career, and after posting averages of 13.3 points, 2.0 assists and 1.0 3-pointer on 41.0 percent shooting through just 31 games during the 2015-16 season, he won't be a very enticing grab in standard leagues on draft day.

Jun 8 - 11:35 AM

Alec Burks admitted that he tried to return too soon from his leg injury this season.

"I don’t think the leg was ready," Burks said. "It was bittersweet because I couldn’t play like I usually play and I couldn’t do the things I’m accustomed to doing. I thought I was ready to play, but game speed and practice speed is totally different and I found out I couldn’t contribute like I thought I could." Burks has had some tough luck with injuries in his five seasons in the NBA and he regressed in nearly every category this year. Hopefully the 24-year-old SG can find a way to stay healthy next season.
Apr 30 - 12:40 PM

Alec Burks (sore left knee) won't play vs. the Lakers on Wednesday.

Burks recently returned from leg surgery so there's no reason for Utah to risk a setback, especially since the Rockets are cruising toward a win that will eliminate the Jazz from the playoffs. Burks played in just 31 games this season, averaging 13.3 points, 1.0 threes, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.6 steals.
