Alec Burk scored a season-high 21 points against the Thunder on Saturday, adding seven rebounds, two assists and three 3-pointers in 24 minutes.
The Jazz just leaned on their second unit for most of the second half after their first-unit guys were the main reason they trailed by 23 points early in the third. Burks has played well, but he'll be tough to rely on in fantasy when the normal starting five is active. His multiple-position game helps him, though. Mar 11 - 5:37 PM

Alec Burks shot 3-of-11 from the field on Friday vs. the Nets, finishing with eight points, six rebounds, one steal and two triples.

Even though Joe Johnson (groin) joined Rodney Hood (knee) on the shelf tonight, Burks only played 23 minutes tonight compared to 28 on Wednesday. This was his second straight game shooting 3-of-11 from the field and he's simply not getting enough burn to make a difference in standard leagues.
Mar 4 - 12:42 AM

Alec Burks scored 12 points with three rebounds, one assist and one 3-pointer in 22 minutes against the Mavs on Thursday.

He did have a costly turnover and the Jazz had some major issues in the second unit today. Burks didn't see much run as a point guard, but he did handle the ball and brought it up the floor. He still doesn't have much value even with Rodney Hood (knee) likely out for a couple more games.
Feb 9 - 11:31 PM

Alec Burks played 21 minutes with seven points, one rebound, four assists, one block and one 3-pointer in 21 minutes against the Hawks on Monday.

He actually lost some backup point guard minutes with Dante Exum getting a look there. Burks still did his share of ball-handling with most of his minutes next to Exum today. Still, working in Exum hasn't really led to added minutes for Burks following the Rodney Hood (knee) injury.
Feb 6 - 10:28 PM

Alec Burks matched his season-high 25 minutes against the Bucks on Wednesday with six points, four rebounds, two steals and one 3-pointer.

He did play six minutes in garbage time, scoring five points to finish the game. Burks looks to have the backup point guard job locked up for the time being, but he's still played just 15.0 minutes per game in his last two. If Rodney Hood (knee) does miss time, maybe he can get some combo guard minutes. He's really just a speculative add in 16-team leagues for now.
Feb 2 - 1:03 AM

Alec Burks scored 15 points on 4-of-5 shooting in Saturday's loss to the Grizzlies.

That's a solid line in just 15 minutes. Raul Neto was inactive and Shelvin Mack is a trade candidate, so Burks does have a small path to minutes if he can stay ahead of Dante Exum in the rotation -- Burks saw 10 minutes as a backup PG tonight. He added two rebounds with two triples and zero assists, but also turned the ball over five times. Just keep an eye on him in deeper leagues.
Jan 29 - 1:11 AM

Alec Burks hit 5-of-9 shots for 11 points with one rebound, one assist and one 3-pointer in 14 minutes on Thursday against the Lakers.

With Rodney Hood (knee) back in the starting lineup, Burks played fewer than 19 minutes for the first time in three games and took an obvious hit. Although his minutes were cut, he did manage to score in double figures for the fourth consecutive game, but as long as Hood and Gordon Hayward are playing, Burks isn't going to be worth using in almost any fantasy league.
Jan 27 - 2:07 AM

Alec Burks hit 5-of-9 shots for 13 points, two rebounds, two steals, one block and zero 3-pointers in 22 minutes of Tuesday's loss to the Nuggets, scoring 13 points in his third consecutive game.

If nothing else, he's consistent, but with averages of 9.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.4 blocks and 0.4 3-pointers over his last five games, there's certainly better options on your waiver wire. And when Rodney Hood returns from his knee injury, Burks' outlook will be even less promising.
Jan 25 - 12:20 AM

Alec Burks scored 13 points for the second straight game on Monday vs. the Thunder, shooting 4-of-7 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line with two rebounds and two assists in a season-high 25 minutes

Burks is now in the rotation with Rodney Hood (knee) out and he played 19 minutes in his previous outing. "Being out for so long, it's hard to get back into the rhythm, but I'm getting there. I feel like I'm getting better," Burks said. "I feel more comfortable with my teammates. I'm making progress." Burks took an ill-advised shot in the final seconds of the two-point loss, but the fact that he was even in there suggests that he will be a big part of Utah's plans in the short term. If you have something to cut in a deep league, give Burks a look since the Jazz play three more times this week.
Jan 24 - 1:29 AM

Alec Burks scored 13 points with four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one 3-pointer in 19 minutes against the Pacers on Saturday.

This was the Burks we were expecting after the Rodney Hood injury (knee) last weekend. He did run some of the second-unit offense and attacked like he has done throughout his career. Most fantasy owners can take a wait-and-see approach here. Joe Ingles has a strong grip on his role as the short-term starter, playing 33 minutes with two points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Jan 22 - 1:15 AM

Alec Burks played 12 minutes against the Mavs on Friday with seven points, two rebounds and one 3-pointer.

He actually got some run at point guard tonight, but clearly the Jazz aren't ready up Burks' minutes so soon with the team playing well. If you haven't dropped him yet, we'll let you know if he pops back up. It does help that the Jazz seem pretty clueless on their backup point guard right now.
Jan 21 - 3:18 AM

Alec Burks played just nine minutes and missed all four of his shots, failing to score a point in Monday's 106-101 win over the Suns.

Joe Ingles started for Rodney Hood (knee) and played well, and Joe Johnson was Joe Cool off the bench with 15 points and three 3-pointers, so Burks looks like the big loser in the Hood-injury sweepstakes. If you picked up Burks in hopes of a decent week, we'd recommend throwing him back and taking a flier on Ingles or Johnson, instead.
Jan 17 - 12:16 AM

Alec Burks said he's close to 100 percent after his eight-point game in 15 minutes on Saturday.

He said he's been waiting for this for "like a year" and he said he knew he was ready to play. Burks acknowledged he had a serious injury and he's still improving. He said he wanted to get to the rim more and he plans on doing that more as he gets more comfortable. With Rodney Hood (knee) possibly missing time, Burks is a speculative add in deep leagues.

Jan 15 - 5:17 AM

Alec Burks played 14 minutes and scored eight points with six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one 3-pointer in Saturday’s 114-107 victory of the Magic.

Burks was recalled from the D-League on Jan. 12 and could hang around for a while, as Rodney Hood (knee) suffered a hyperextended knee in tonight’s game. He has only appeared in six games for the Jazz this season, but could see a larger role if Hood misses any time. He looked good tonight and can play multiple positions for Utah. That being said, for now, Burks can be left on waivers, but he is someone worth keeping an eye on.
Jan 15 - 12:12 AM

Alec Burks will be in the rotation with Joe Johnson (rest) out on Saturday against the Magic.

We saw Burks get five minutes on Friday night, but he didn't play well on the offensive side. The Jazz loved him at times last year with some point guard minutes, but he's in a tight spot for minutes. Leave him on the wire.
