Alec Burks (shoulder) said he still hasn't taken contact in practice yet, but the doctors have cleared him.
In his interview during the summer league broadcast, Burks sounded very excited to get out there and play with his team. The Jazz are loaded on the wing with Rodney Hood stepping up after the break and Gordon Hayward playing well, and Burks said he'd battle anyone for a starting job. The Jazz have some terrific depth. Alec Burks stated during his exit interview on Thursday that he hopes he's "the missing piece" for the Jazz to realize their playoff aspirations.

Burks also gave an update on his shoulder injury, saying: "I can dribble and shoot and things, but I can't play contact for another three months. So when that starts I'll really see where my shoulder's at." Burks only made it through 27 games during the 2014-15 season, and his production dipped slightly from the previous year as he posted averages of 13.9 points, 3.0 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.0 three-pointer per game on 40.3 percent shooting from the field. He's going to have to compete with Rodney Hood for minutes next season, and he's really not much more than a low-end guy in standard leagues.
Apr 16 - 5:53 PM

Alec Burks (shoulder) was spotted getting some shots up at practice on Wednesday.

It was a light shooting drill, but the Jazz haven't provided a lot of updates on his recovery and this is all we have to go on. Burks is expected to be ready for the start of next season, and we will continue to track his progress very closely in the coming months. Burks averaged 13.9 points, 3.0 assists, 4.2 boards and 1.0 3-pointer in 27 appearances this season, but his troublesome shoulder and the emergence of Rodney Hood could dampen his value in next year's fantasy drafts.
Apr 8 - 1:55 PM

Alec Burks (shoulder) is traveling with the Jazz.

Although he's out for the season, Burks is engaging in film studies and off-court activities to make the most of his time away from the floor. "It’s really good that he’s here, that he’s with us," Quin Snyder said. "He wants to be with us. He’s in the film sessions." Burks has ditched the protective sling for his shoulder and expects to make a full recovery before next season begins.
Mar 2 - 10:56 AM

Alec Burks' shoulder is expected to be 100 percent healthy before next season begins.

It will be the first time since Burks was in his "teens" that the shoulder will be at full strength. The shoulder has been a concern since before Utah originally drafted him. "I had a really bad shoulder," he said. Burks added that he couldn't lift his arm over his shoulder, and he admitted that he wasn't healthy all season. Burks is uncertain if he'll be ready for training camp, but the good news is he should be at full strength whenever recovered.
Jan 19 - 9:19 AM

Alec Burks underwent shoulder surgery on Wednesday, and he will remain out for the 2014-15 season.

The starting shooting guard position in Utah is now Rodney Hood's to lose, but he's been far too inconsistent to be owned in standard leagues. Trey Burke's minutes have been on the rise since Alec Burks went down, and he's been averaging 15.5 points, 5.0 assists, and 1.8 three-pointers over the past four games.
Jan 1 - 5:23 PM

Alec Burks will undergo surgery on his sore shoulder, and he will be out for the remainder of the season.

This is a tough blow for the Jazz and we wish Burks all the best. Burks had a solid season after signing a long-term deal with the Jazz in October, finishing with averages of 13.9 points, 4.2 boards, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 3-pointers in 33.3 minutes. Rodney Hood will likely remain in the starting lineup for the Jazz, but has proven to be too inconsistent for owners in standard leagues. We also may see more of rookie Dante Exum as the season progresses, but owners would be advised to just use a wait-and-see approach here. Burks can be cut across the board.

Marc Stein of ESPN is reporting that there are renewed fears in Utah regarding Alec Burks' shoulder issues, and there is talk of him shutting it down for the season.

Burks saw multiple doctors back in early-December, and surgery was discussed as a real possibility, which would likely end his season. He's out for Tuesday's game against the Timberwolves, and should be considered doubtful Thursday and Friday's back-to-back set. Rodney Hood has stepped into the starting lineup with Burks sidelined, but is only averaging 9.5 points and 1.8 three-pointers per game, limiting his value to deeper leagues.

Alec Burks (shoulder) will not suit up for Tuesday's game against the Timberwolves.

This will be Burks' third consecutive game out of the lineup, and Rodney Hood will earn another start at the two-spot tonight. Hood had a nice all around game during his last outing, putting up nine points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block, so he makes for an intriguing option in daily leagues with a favorable matchup against the Wolves.

Alec Burks (shoulder) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Clippers.

Rodney Hood started the last game that Burks was sidelined, but only managed to put up four points on 1-of-8 shooting from the field, so he's not much of an option in most leagues. Trey Burke however ended up logging 37 minutes, putting up 17 points on 5-of-18 shooting, but it's worth noting that he was playing against the 76ers. With a difficult matchup against the Clippers, Burke doesn't look like a great option on Monday, despite the increased opportunity.

Alec Burks (shoulder) will not play on Saturday vs. the 76ers.

This does not bode well for Burks' status moving forward, and it is already known that he may need surgery in the offseason. He is said to be dealing with some general soreness, so he should be fine with a little rest. Consider Burks day-to-day for now, and expect Rodney Hood to draw the start while Joe Ingles could also see an uptick in minutes.
Sat, Dec 27, 2014 07:10:00 PM

Alec Burks (shoulder) is doubtful for Saturday's game against the 76ers.

He missed the morning shootaround and his status is not looking good against the 76ers. Check back before tip-off for the official word, and expect Rodney Hood and Joe Ingles to get some extra playing time if Burks sits out. Stay tuned.
Sat, Dec 27, 2014 01:14:00 PM

Alec Burks scored 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting (2-of-4 3PTs, 7-of-8 FTs) with three rebounds and four assists in Monday's win.

Burks is good for one of these explosions every so often but he's a borderline late-round value at best when it's all said and done.
Tue, Dec 23, 2014 01:35:00 AM

Alec Burks briefly left Saturday's game with a shoulder injury, but returned moments later to finish with 11 points, four boards and one assist in 30 minutes.

He shot just 3-of-11 from the field, so his shoulder may have been bothering him a little bit. We will monitor Burks' status closely, but it doesn't look like he will be in danger of missing any time. We will pass along any updates as needed.
Sat, Dec 20, 2014 10:50:00 PM

Alec Burks (shoulder) returned to action earlier than some expected in Monday's loss to the Kings, scoring 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting (6-of-9 FTs) with four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 31 minutes.

Burks has shown issues with versatility that hold his value down in standard leagues, but he's a better low-end asset in 12-team leagues than a lot of borderline guys because he may continue to improve.
