Nolan Smith is likely to be waived by Galatasaray of the Turkish Basketball League.
Smith signed with the Turkish team in August, but was sent to Galatasaray's young team after a discussion with coach Ergin Ataman. The Duke alum is still just 26 years old, but the fact that he can't hook on overseas pushes him even further from a return to the NBA. Tue, Oct 21, 2014 09:32:00 AM

Nolan Smith has agreed to a deal with Galatasaray of the Turkish Basketball League.

The contract is pending a sponsor deal before it becomes official, but the Duke alum is all but certain to play his second season overseas after spending 2013-14 in Croatia. While Smith is still just 26 years old, his 84 games played with the Trail Blazers during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons will likely be the only NBA games he plays in his career.

Former Celtics guard Nolan Smith signed with Cedevita Zagreb of Croatia.

The Duke product was expected to join the Celtics for training camp, but that is no longer happening. Smith injured his calf in Orlando Summer League and is still a few weeks away from a full recovery.

Nolan Smith has a Grade-II calf straight and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

Smith has been wearing a walking boot and the timeline given would lead us to believe he's unlikely to be in basketball shape by the time training camp opens. Still, he doesn't appear to need surgery, which means he should be able to participate in camp.

Celtics G Nolan Smith (calf) will have an MRI on Monday to determine if he needs surgery.

Smith is wearing a walking boot and he may have a tear below his calf, though fortunately his Achilles isn't believed to have been affected.

Nolan Smith (calf) was in a walking boot and is out for the rest of Orlando Summer League.

He believes he may have a tear below his calf but it's not the Achilles tendon. Smith had a chance to make an impression with the rebuilding Celtics, but he'll have to find another way.

Nolan Smith, whom the Celtics added to their Summer League team, left Sunday's game with a "lower right leg injury."

He didn't return to the game. Smith's 2012-13 season ended due to a partially torn left patella tendon and he was originally questionable for training camp, but Sunday's injury involved his right knee.

Nolan Smith, an unrestricted free agent, will not return to the Blazers next season.

"They have a path they want to go down, and it's pretty obvious I'm not on it right now," Smith said during his exit interview. Smith added the team made it "pretty clear" that they don't want him to return, and now Smith will be playing with a chip on his shoulder wherever he lands. Right now, he's best known as the guy drafted ahead of Kenneth Faried in 2011.

Blazers guard Nolan Smith has been diagnosed with a partial tear in his patella tendon, ending his 2012-13 season.

An MRI revealed the injury and it could hardly have come at a worse time for Smith, who is heading into unrestricted free agency this summer. He'll try to fill a productive niche off an NBA bench next season, and he remains an unlikely fantasy option.

Nolan Smith expects to leave the Blazers as a free agent this summer, possibly for the Bulls, Hawks or Thunder.

"This just wasn't the right situation for me, and I think everybody can see that," said Smith, who is averaging 2.8 points in seven minutes per game this season. He feels that he's been unfairly buried on Portland's bench, while incurring the fans' anger simply because he was drafted one pick ahead of Kenneth Faried (to which he added, "I don't blame them at all.") He'll need to prove himself before earning fantasy consideration next year.

Blazers GM Neil Olshey said that if he knew this summer how competitive his team would be this season, he "would have made a bigger investment in the bench."

That's a slap in the face for the Blazers, who are playing .500 basketball despite having one of the worst benches in NBA history. Nolan Smith's minutes as a backup PG on Saturday were so bad that beat writer Jason Quick wrote afterward, "I'm not sure we will ever see Smith play meaningful minutes again in a Blazers uniform." It's good news for fantasy owners, since production is concentrated among just a few guys, but at some point exhaustion is bound to set it.

The Blazers recalled Nolan Smith and Will Barton from the D-League.

The move was expected as both players were only in the minor league to participate in the D-League showcase.

Nolan Smith and Will Barton are expected to rejoin the Blazers before Thursday's game against the Heat.

Both players are currently participating in the D-League showcase and aren't expected to spend extended time in the D-League.

Nolan Smith has been assigned to the Blazer's D-League affiliate.

It's the first time Smith has been sent to join the Idaho Stampede. He has fallen way behind Ronnie Price to be Damian Lillard's backup and has no value in fantasy leagues.

Nolan Smith (upper respiratory infection) will return to the lineup Wednesday.

Smith missed three games with the illness, but is a non-option given his limited minutes and role with the Blazers.
