Former Celtics F JaJuan Johnson has signed with the Italian team Pistoia Basket.
Johnson played 36 games for Boston during the 2011-12 season but wasn't physical enough to handle the PF position, and he spent last year playing for three different teams in the D-League. Fri, Aug 9, 2013 04:40:00 PM

JaJuan Johnson has entered his name into Friday's D-League draft and is expected to be the first overall pick.

Johnson was a first-round pick in 2011, but he's been traded by the Celtics and waived by the Rockets, so he's looking for a way to reignite his career.

Rockets waive F JaJuan Johnson.

Two teams have now given up on Johnson, and he's going to have to land in the right spot for him to have a chance at a successful career.

JaJuan Johnson has been officially traded to the Rockets as part of the deal that landed Courtney Lee in Boston.

Johnson will be no higher than fourth on the Rockets' PF depth chart, and early word is that he is already requesting a trade out of Houston.

Forward JaJuan Johnson is being sent to the Rockets in a sign-and-trade deal that will send SG Courtney Lee to Boston.

Rookie Royce White already looks like he's going to be an NBA superstar, while Patrick Patterson and Marcus Morris will each require minutes at power forward. This doesn't look to be a positive move for Johnson, and word out of Boston is that he's already requested a trade out of Houston.

Celtics GM Danny Ainge said JaJuan Johnson needs to improve his confidence on the floor.

"I just don't think he's playing with that extreme confidence that he had in college," he said. "I think he's got to find his confidence and his offensive aggressiveness," Ainge added. Johnson needs to be more physical to find success as a power forward, but he roams the perimeter and is having trouble transitioning without the ball in his hands. The fact that Boston added two big men in the first round of the 2012 draft speaks volumes, even if Ainge and Doc Rivers won't admit it.

The Celtics still aren't sure whether JaJuan Johnson is physical enough to consistently play PF.

Johnson said he's most comfortable at PF for the moment, but Boston may end up trying him at SF. Either way, they want to see more from him this year. "We just want him to do other things outside of scoring," said Tyronn Lue, who is coaching the Celtics' Summer League team."Doing the right coverages on defense, blocking shots, running the floor, getting rebounds, stuff like that."

JaJuan Johnson played just 10 minutes with one rebound and one block to his credit on Thursday.

Johnson lost his spot-starting appeal once the Celtics frontcourt got healthy, and we'll let you know if he hits the fantasy radar again.

JaJuan Johnson scored 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting with five rebounds and a block over a bench-leading 25 minutes in Wednesday's loss to the Pistons.

Johnson has spot-starting appeal in very deep leagues for however long Kevin Garnett (hip) is out. Beyond that, there's nothing to see.

JaJuan Johnson played a season-high 33 minutes on Sunday for the short-handed Celtics and played well, tallying 12 points (on 6-of-13 shooting) while also grabbing four rebounds.

Both Jermaine O'Neal (shoulder) and Brandon Bass (knee) missed Sunday's game, which led to the increase in minutes for Johnson. Still, the rookie will likely be too inconsistent to offer much fantasy value, and Chris Wilcox seems like the safer play while O'Neal and Bass are out. Just keep an eye on him for now.

JaJuan Johnson wants to add weight to his frame.

Good idea. Johnson will get eaten alive on the low block unless he bulks up a bit, and he knows it. "I definitely want to add more weight," Johnson said. He shouldn't be on the fantasy radar with several other players ahead of him in the rotation during his rookie season.

The Celtics signed rookies JaJuan Johnson and E'Twaun Moore on Monday.

They're good to go and in camp, although neither player is expected to make a big impact in Boston this season.

Celtics draft pick JaJuan Johnson is being asked to gain more weight to combat big men in the NBA.

Purdue's head coach, Matt Painter, says that Johnson is "really strong" and can bench 330 pounds, and his successful career in the Big Ten has silenced some of his most vocal critics. He's improved his jumper and softened his touch around the basket, and as a natural athlete he should have a shot at the rotation in his rookie season.

The Nets took power forward JaJuan Johnson at No. 27, and will send him to Boston for Marshon Brooks, whom the Celtics took at No. 25.

We like Johnson as a sleeper after he had a fantastic Big 10 career at Purdue, although he's not going to get a lot of playing time right away. But if Glen Davis leaves and Kevin Garnett gets hurt, Johnson is going to be forced into action.

Purdue PF JaJuan Johnson is reportedly among the players the Nets are targeting with draft picks Nos. 27 and 36.

Other players on New Jersey's radar include Kansas SG Josh Selby, Duke guard Nolan Smith, and Georgia PF Trey Thompkins. Follow the link for even more players of interest to NJ, but remember that late first-round and second-round picks aren't likely to provide fantasy value.
