Magic head coach Frank Vogel said he intends to teach Nikola Vucevic the proper angles on defense and the "verticality rule."
"So I don't want to come in and say that Vooch is going to become Roy Hibbert," Vogel said. "But I think Vooch can be a lot better than he's been. And I think some of those lessons we learned with Roy will apply to Vooch and how we use him and what he's being asked to do." The Magic brought in Bismack Biyombo and Serge Ibaka to provide some rim protection, but Vucevic's outlook will significantly improve if he makes strides on the defensive end because he's already their top option on offense right now. We'd like him better if Biyombo wasn't around and he could be a trade candidate, but grabbing him in the early middle rounds still makes sense. Sep 22 - 1:16 PM

Nikola Vucevic posted 17 points and eight rebounds during a loss to Georgia on Saturday.

Vucevic's Montenegro team already qualified for the Euro tournament, so the loss didn't hurt. He finished the tournament averaging 15.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists. It's going to be very interesting to see how Vooch fits in with the Magic adding Serge Ibaka and Bismack Biyombo. He's still a fine pick in the early middle rounds.

Nikola Vucevic finished Saturday's win over Slovakia with 17 points and five rebounds in just 20 minutes of action.

Most notably, Vooch made all three of his 3-point attempts and it's become clear that he's really putting an emphasis on letting it fly from distance. The big man will have to extend his range in a three-man rotation that also features Serge Ibaka and Bismack Biyombo, and if Vucevic can start to connect from behind the arc on a regular basis it will only add to his fantasy value.

Nikola Vucevic posted a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double during Montenegro's win over Georgia on Wednesday, adding four assists, two blocks and two 3-pointers through 28 minutes of action.

Vucevic didn't have a great shooting night, connecting on just seven of his 22 attempts, but the 2-of-5 shooting performance from beyond the arc is certainly something to make a note of. Vucevic has said that he's hoping to incorporate the 3-point shot into his game this upcoming season, and he'll have the freedom to do so under Frank Vogel. The signing of Bismack Biyombo does complicate Vuc's role with the Magic a bit, but he still qualifies as a solid early-round target.
Sep 7 - 1:45 PM

Nikola Vuveciv stated during a recent interview that he's growing more confident taking 3-pointers.

"My confidence from 3-point shot has been growing. I think it is something I can add to my game," said Vucevic. "Actually even here in practice with the national team, I have been stepping out and knocking down some threes." Magic head coach Frank Vogel said that he liked the idea of Vuvecic expanding his game beyond the arc, so it'll be interesting to see if this is something that becomes a thing next year. For what it's worth, through his first five years in the league, Vucevic has connected on just seven of his 26 3-point attempts.

Coach Frank Vogel said he likes the idea of Nikola Vucevic shooting 3-pointers.

"I won't put that on him if he's not comfortable," Vogel said about Vucevic shooting treys. The 25-year-old big man has made a grand total of seven 3-pointers in his career, so this idea is uncharted territory. Vucevic is a terrific midrange shooter and his low-post game will be very important to the Orlando offense. Even with possible trade rumors, Vooch is still an early-round target.

Nikola Vucevic reiterated his belief that he'll be "the starter, the best player on the team" for the Magic this season.

"I'm not taking anything away from Bismack [Biyombo]," Vucevic said. "I just believe I should start." Magic GM Rob Hennigan called Vuc shortly after the Biyombo signing but didn't state which big man would start, something coach Frank Vogel will hopefully clarify during training camp. The team reportedly isn't looking to trade Vucevic, which is less than ideal for his fantasy value, but he's still a tantalizing top-30 target.

Jul 27 - 9:02 PM

The Magic are not currently shopping Nikola Vucevic, according to sources of Zach Lowe of ESPN.

Lowe argues that the Magic may need Vucevic's low-post game and particularly his passing ability for the team to function, as both Serge Ibaka and Bismack Biyombo are limited in both those categories. Head coach Frank Vogel has said that he'll "explore" playing Biyombo and Vucevic alongside one another, although he acknowledged it's a strategy that "won't work against a lot of teams," and he's still yet to name his starting center. If someone in Orlando is traded, Vucevic will be the most likely to go, and that would more than likely improve his fantasy outlook.

Jul 27 - 11:23 AM

Nikola Vucevic stated during a recent interview that he believes he'll be the starting center for the Magic next season.

"I was starting. I don’t expect that to change," said Vucevic. "I think I have proven I am definitely a starter in this league and I believe one of the best centers in this league. I don’t believe there is any reason for me to come off the bench." Bismack Biyombo was reportedly brought to Orlando "to start," but that report has not been confirmed or denied by the Orlando coaching staff. If Vucevic wants to start next season, he may need to change uniforms.
Jul 15 - 11:37 AM

Frank Vogel said that both Nikola Vucevic and Bismack Biyombo will play center for Orlando, although he would not say who would start.

Vogel added that he currently has two starting centers on the roster, but with reports coming that Vucevic's name has been thrown around in trade talks, it seem much more likely that Vucevic will be wearing a different jersey by the time the 2016-17 season rolls around. However, if Vucevic does wind up remaining in Orlando, his fantasy value will take a massive hit as he gets locked into a timeshare with Biyombo.
Jul 7 - 5:03 PM

Nikola Vucevic could be "in play for trades," according to Jon Krawczynski of the Associated Press.

Bismack Biyombo is apparently going to start for the Magic and they have Serge Ibaka, so someone has to go. Vucevic's defense has always been a concern and coach Frank Vogel may be looking for a defense-first identity. Considering the massive contracts NBA big men are getting this month, there should be a huge market for Vooch.
Jul 2 - 3:30 PM

Magic head coach Frank Vogel believes he can help Nikola Vucevic on the defensive end.

"It's really mostly about body position in today's NBA," Vogel said. "It's angles and anticipation. I feel like I can work with him to improve him. But anybody that's going to be caught in that center position has got to be the anchor of your defense. We work diligently on teaching the angles, teaching the anticipation, teaching the coverages for when there's help." Vucevic obviously isn't known for his defense, but Vogel's had some success getting the best out of guys like Roy Hibbert and Ian Mahinmi, so he should be great for Vucevic's development.
May 22 - 10:10 AM

Nikola Vucevic (leg, groin) started Wednesday's season finale and racked up 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting with four boards and one assist.

Vuc's owners got a boost as he opted to play through the nagging injuries in a meaningless game, which the Magic lost 117-103. His return bumped Dewayne Dedmon to the bench.
Apr 13 - 11:13 PM

Nikola Vucevic (leg, groin) will be in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Hornets.

Vucevic's return to the starting five will more than likely result in Dewayne Dedmon returning to the bench. Go ahead and fire him up in all season-long settings.
Apr 13 - 7:20 PM

Nikola Vucevic is available to play against the Hornets on Wednesday.

He might be limited in the final due to his leg contusion and his groin issue may not be 100 percent either. Vucevic will be worth starting in season-long leagues, but he's not a great DFS option.
