Coach Stan Van Gundy envisions Jon Leuer primarily as a power forward, but could join Boban Marjanovic as "a two-headed monster" as the backup center.
SVG would use Leuer against a stretch five while Boban guards a traditional center. There's a very good chance Leuer starts and the Pistons push Tobias Harris to the three or even bring him off the bench as a sixth man -- Stanley Johnson could start. While Leuer did fizzle out late in the 2016-17 season, he's still worth a look late in drafts. Aug 11 - 2:49 PM

Jon Leuer moved back into the starting lineup on Wednesday vs. the Magic and scored two points with five rebounds and one assist in 20 minutes.

He missed all five of his shots tonight and really slowed down over the last few weeks of the season. While Leuer is under contract for the next three seasons, it's possible that Henry Ellenson could leapfrog him in the rotation in 2017-18.
Apr 13 - 12:03 AM

Jon Leuer will return to the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Magic, sending Henry Ellenson back to the bench.

Leuer just hasn't been much of a factor in the rotation since Stan Van Gundy started going with a player development focus, and with Ellenson still likely to receive 20-plus minutes off the bench, Leuer isn't a very attractive target despite the starter designation.
Apr 12 - 12:58 PM

Jon Leuer played four minutes on Monday vs. the Wizards with nothing to show for it except a missed shot.

Leuer was likely headed for a DNP-CD, but coach Stan Van Gundy got a little frustrated with Henry Ellenson. Unless Leuer starts on Wednesday in the season finale, fantasy owners won't be able to trust him in any format.
Apr 10 - 11:32 PM

Jon Leuer will return to the bench for Monday's game against the Wizards.

Keith Langlois of Pistons.com referred to Leuer as Detroit's "emergency big man" tonight, so it sounds like Leuer could be headed for a DNP-CD with Henry Ellenson back in the starting five. He's not a great target in most settings.
Apr 10 - 6:56 PM

Jon Leuer misfired on five of his eight field-goal attempts to finish with nine points, one rebound and one steal over 20 minutes in Sunday's game against the Grizzlies.

Leuer and Reggie Bullock made starts with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Marcus Morris getting a rest, but Leuer didn't do much with his opportunity. In fact, it was Henry Ellenson stepping up and contributing more from a fantasy perspective than Leuer. The former standout at the University of Wisconsin remains nothing more than roster filler in deeper leagues, even when he starts.
Apr 9 - 11:03 PM

Jon Leuer will return to the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Grizzlies, sending Henry Ellenson back to the bench.

Leuer picked up a DNP-CD his last time out, but with Marcus Morris and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope not expected to play today, Leuer should be able to flirt with close to 30 minutes tonight. Ellenson needed only 26 minutes to produce a double-double as a starter on Friday, and he should still be able to see quality minutes tonight despite coming off the bench.
Apr 9 - 4:54 PM

Jon Leuer was a DNP-CD on Friday.

There's a chance he gets mixed in and someone gets taken out, but there's no reason to own Leuer in most fantasy leagues right now.
Apr 7 - 11:20 PM

Jon Leuer scored four points with two rebounds in 26 minutes against the Nets on Thursday.

He scored just two points in the starting lineup on Tuesday and just isn't in a good groove right now. Back in the preseason, coach Stan Van Gundy said he wanted Leuer and Ish Smith to play off each other, but it's not working out for Leuer right now. Leave him on the wire.
Mar 30 - 10:24 PM

Jon Leuer will start again on Thursday vs. the Nets.

He's still not a great fantasy option and is coming off a poor game on Tuesday when he finished with just two points, four boards, a steal and a block in 17 minutes. As for Tobias Harris, he looked great off the bench with 19 points, six boards, two steals and four 3-pointers. Leuer is more of a deep-leauge streaming option since this is a great matchup.
Mar 30 - 1:03 PM

Jon Leuer started over Tobias Harris on Tuesday, but missed all three of his shots and finished with just two points, four boards, a steal and a block in 17 minutes.

Harris came off the bench for 19 points, six boards, two steals and four 3-pointers, even though Stan Van Gundy said previously that Harris would start the rest of the way. Either way, Leuer has been pretty bad whether starting or coming off the bench lately, and belongs on waiver wires.
Mar 29 - 12:02 AM

Jon Leuer is starting in place of Tobias Harris on Tuesday vs. the Heat.

Interesting. Coach Stan Van Gundy previously said that Harris would start for the rest of the season, but the Pistons have lost four straight games and SVG is going to shake things up. Leuer's numbers only get a modest bump in the first unit, so he's just a low-end pickup. The big man is averaging 10.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.4 triples in March.
Mar 28 - 7:26 PM

Jon Leuer missed all seven shots from the bench in 22 minutes and finished Tuesday's loss with two points, five rebounds, a steal and a block.

The Pistons are fighting for a playoff spot, so losing to the Nets was not how they envisioned their Tuesday night going. Leuer had scored in double figures in his previous two games, but is averaging just 7.8 points and 5.8 rebounds over his last five, meaning you can do better off your waiver wire.
Mar 21 - 10:21 PM

Jon Leuer scored 12 points off the bench with five rebounds, two assists, one block and one 3-pointer in 29 minutes against the Raptors on Friday.

He will stick in the second unit for the rest of the season. Leuer should still see plenty of minutes as long as coach Stan Van Gundy uses him next to both starting forwards. He's more of a late-round guy with a decent floor most nights. If he's at the end of your bench and you see a hot pickup, he could be a guy to drop.
Mar 17 - 10:25 PM

Jon Leuer was back in Detroit's starting lineup on Wednesday, going 3-of-8 from the field with one 3-pointer for seven points, five rebounds, one assist and one block in 30 minutes.

Leuer started because Stan Van Gundy thought Utah was going big at PF, so this could be a fluid situation based on matchups. He doesn't have a single steal or block in his previous six games, which is a primary reason to avoid him in 12-team leagues.
