Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger expects Jon Leuer to play a key role as a backup PF this season, but he wants him to be "more disruptive" defensively.
Leuer said that he's ready for the challenge. "I want to do more than just be a stretch four," he said. "I can put the ball on the floor and make plays for myself and teammates. I bring a lot of energy with the ability to rebound and defend." As long as Zach Randolph is healthy, fantasy owners shouldn't expect a big increase from Leuer's averages last season -- 6.2 points, 0.5 threes, 3.2 rebounds and 0.3 blocks per game. Grizzlies big man Jon Leuer had a double hernia operation in mid-August, but he said on Tuesday that he's "100 percent ... good to go."

He lost some weight while recovering from the operation but didn't sound concerned as Memphis opened their training camp with a practice heavy on running and conditioning drills. Leuer shouldn't be on typical fantasy radars while Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol and Kosta Koufos are all healthy.
Sep 30 - 6:37 PM

Jon Leuer came off the bench to hit 6-of-10 shots and three 3-pointers for 19 points and five rebounds in Wednesday's ugly loss at Brooklyn.

Zach Randolph was out with the flu, starters Ed Davis and Tayshaun Prince were invisible and the Grizzlies turned to their bench early and often in an ugly loss. Leuer posted some big lines earlier in the season, but there's no reason to think he's about ready to go on a run, as Randolph should be back soon. Ignore tonight's positive performance.
Mar 5 - 11:48 PM

Jon Leuer played 12 minutes on Friday and finished with two points, three rebounds and one assist.

Leuer hit 1-of-5 shots and Ed Davis' big night probably had something to do with that, but the bottom line is that Marc Gasol is coming back soon and even with 23 points on Sunday there's nothing to see here.
Jan 11 - 1:15 AM

Updating a previous item, Jon Leuer does not appear to be included in the proposed Jerryd Bayless-Courtney Lee deal.

There were some suggestions of Leuer being involved because of the size of Lee's contract compared to Bayless' deal, but the Grizzlies do have a $7.5 million trade exception from last year's Rudy Gay deal.
Jan 5 - 5:50 PM

Jon Leuer matched his career-high 23 points against the Pistons on Sunday to go with eight boards, one assist, one steal and two 3-pointers on 8-of-13 shooting.

He scored seven points in the last 2:30 of this game, but he did do most of his damage in the first half with 16 points. Leuer's minutes dropped off significantly over his previous four games with just 11.8 per game. Fantasy owners can probably ignore this in most cases considering Leuer's value will likely evaporate once Marc Gasol comes back.
Jan 5 - 4:53 PM

Jon Leuer scored 11 points in just 15 minutes on Friday, hitting 4-of-6 shots (including a three) with three rebounds and one block.

Leuer has been off the fantasy radar over the last two weeks and with Marc Gasol returning soon he's probably bound to stay on waiver wires.
Jan 4 - 2:09 AM

Jon Leuer played just nine minutes on Saturday and finished with five points and one rebound in a win over the Nuggets.

Leuer's run is officially over, as he's scored six or fewer points in three of his last four games after rattling off double-digit scoring in his seven previous games. And with Kosta Koufos playing better and Marc Gasol nearing a return from a knee injury, it's time to send Leuer back to where you found him.

Jon Leuer had another quiet game against the Rockets on Thursday with six points and no rebounds in 12 minutes.

The Grizzlies are running a three-way timeshare at center with Ed Davis and Kosta Koufos, so there isn't much to like here from a fantasy perspective. There's a good chance Leuer's low minutes had a lot to do with Dwight Howard, so his value might not be completely dead yet.

Grizzlies big man Jon Leuer had only two points and five boards in 17 minutes during Saturday's game, the second time all month he's been held to single-digit scoring.

He came with December averages of 15.3 points, 7.2 boards and 0.7 blocks in 28 minutes per game, and the Knicks deployed their 'big' lineup, so there was no way to see this coming. There's a good chance that he'll bounce back vs. the Jazz on Monday.
Sat, Dec 21, 2013 03:01:00 PM

Jon Leuer played 23 minutes off the bench for the Grizzlies with 14 points, one board, one assist and two 3-pointers on 6-of-10 from the field.

He's scored in the teens in each of his last seven games, adding averages of 1.4 triples, 6.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals. Leuer's low rebounding total is a little disappointing tonight, but the solid offensive output makes him a hold for owners that have been utilizing his services.
Thu, Dec 19, 2013 01:26:00 AM

Jon Leuer stayed hot on Tuesday, hitting 5-of-9 shots and three 3-pointers for 13 points, seven rebounds, a steal and a block.

Leuer simply won't go away and has scored in double figures in six straight games, and seven of his last eight. He's averaging 16.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 0.6 blocks and 1.6 3-pointers on 53 percent shooting, while he's also hitting 89 percent of his free throws over that stretch. He'll cool off once Marc Gasol comes back, but based on his play over the last two weeks, he's a must-own player until further notice.
Tue, Dec 17, 2013 11:33:00 PM

Jon Leuer's impressive play continued on Sunday, as he notched 15 points and nine rebounds in just 27 minutes.

He hit 7-of-13 FGs and even made another 3-pointer, giving him at least one make in four straight games. The return of Ed Davis (seven minutes) has done nothing to cool off Leuer, and fantasy owners might as well ride him until he slows down.
Sun, Dec 15, 2013 09:35:00 PM

Jon Leuer kept his hot streak going on Friday with 19 points, eight boards, one assist and one 3-pointer on 8-of-10 shooting in 30 minutes.

There aren't many out-of-the-blue players turning in big lines quite like Leuer. In his last four games, the 24-year-old forward averaged 16.8 points, 8.0 boards and 1.0 triples in 29.8 minutes per game. The Grizzlies have needed to play from behind a lot, so they've went with more of an offensive option down low. He is worth a look in all leagues while he's hot like this, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him fall off in a hurry.
Fri, Dec 13, 2013 11:59:00 PM

Jon Leuer stayed hot for the Grizzlies on Wednesday with 17 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals, two blocks and two 3-pointers, although he hit just 5-of-14 shots in 32 minutes.

Leuer is getting some nice run right now with Ed Davis (ankle) and Marc Gasol (knee) out of action, and is averaging a shocking 15.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 1.0 blocks and 0.8 3-pointers on 50 percent shooting over his last five games. He's certainly worth using in any league for now, but things could get dicey once Davis is back.
