Greg Smith missed shootaround due to stomach distress and is a game-time decision Saturday night.
Smith was removed from the starting lineup for Wednesday's Game 2 in favor of Patrick Beverley. He still managed six points and five rebounds in 14 minutes but also picked up four fouls. We should know his status closer to tip-off. Apr 27 - 11:54 AM

Date:

Greg Smith made another start at power forward and had eight points, 10 rebounds and four blocks in Wednesday's overtime loss to the Lakers.

The Rockets will face the Thunder in Round 1 and Smith looks like the power forward of choice in Houston.
Apr 18 - 1:38 AM

Greg Smith played 28 minutes against the Suns on Tuesday and had 12 points, five boards, one steal and one block.

He's been useful for the Rockets lately and he's leapfrogged Donatas Motiejunas (no points and six minutes) and Thomas Robinson (DNP-CD). Smith will have a lower upside, but with the Rockets leading the NBA in pace, he should have plenty of chances to produce stats.
Apr 10 - 12:36 AM

Greg Smith, who scored 19 points on Friday, flopped with just six points and four boards in Saturday's loss in Denver.

Smith played under 13 minutes tonight, roughly on par with fellow PFs Thomas Robinson (five points in 12 minutes) and Donatas Motiejunas (12 points in 16 minutes). The picture has been muddled further by the arrival of D-League callup Terrence Jones, who trumped them all tonight with 13 points in 28 minutes. With so many guys vying for minutes, it's a situation to avoid.
Apr 7 - 12:05 AM

Greg Smith vanished on Wednesday, scoring two points in 20 minutes, due to a combination of foul trouble and Terrence Jones' solid play off the bench.

Smith racked up 18 & 19 last week and subsequently took over the starting PF job, but so far he's been a disappointment for fantasy owners. Hopefully the fouls were the primary cause of his quiet night, but it's hard to trust him for Friday's game in Portland.
Apr 4 - 12:48 AM

Kevin McHale confirmed that Greg Smith may continue to start at PF ahead of Donatas Motiejunas and Thomas Robinson.

"A lot will depend on matchups, but Greg's been really good for us lately," said McHale, after Smith scored nine points with eight rebounds and three blocks on Saturday.

Greg Smith made his first career start at PF for Houston on Saturday, finishing with nine points, eight rebounds and zero blocks in 30 minutes.

Kevin McHale wanted more size in his starting lineup vs. the Clippers, so he started Smith alongside Omer Asik and sent Donatas Motiejunas to the bench. The move could stick, as McHale has been unhappy with Motie lately, and Smith is worth a look for a handful of high-percentage points, rebounds and blocks. It was just four days ago, after all, when he racked up 18 points and 19 boards.
Mar 30 - 10:55 PM

Greg Smith will start at power forward against the Clippers on Saturday.

You may have heard, but the Clippers have been known to attack and Smith will give the Rockets some added size to stop Blake Griffin and company. Smith had an 18-point, 19-board game on Wednesday, then cooled off on Friday with two points and nine boards. He's for deep leagues only right now.
Mar 30 - 7:07 PM

Greg Smith followed up his 18-point, 19-rebound outing from Wednesday with two points, nine rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes on Friday.

The nine rebounds are nice but Smith is still following his usual pattern of a big game or two followed by nothingness. You'd have to be in a very deep format to ride that train.
Mar 30 - 12:35 AM

Greg Smith came out of nowhere for a career night that included 18 points and 19 boards in 32 minutes against the Pacers on Wednesday.

He had 18 points combined in his previous four games and he played in 17 minutes or less in three of those four. Kevin McHale has been known to run some messy rotations, so this is more of a thorn in the side of deep league owners with Donatas Motiejunas (no points, two boards and one block) and Thomas Robinson (10 points and four boards in 22 minutes) also in the mix. However, swapping out Robinson or D-Mo for Smith seems like an easy decision to make at this point.
Mar 28 - 2:05 AM

Greg Smith (bruised knee) practiced on Monday and he will be ready to play the Bucks on Wednesday.

Smith had a scary moment during Saturday's game, when he needed help getting to the Rockets bench, but he seems to have come out unscathed. He projects as a backup big man behind Thomas Robinson, a role ill-suited for fantasy value.
Feb 25 - 3:37 PM

Greg Smith left Saturday's game with a bruised right knee, but X-rays were negative and he said he'll be ready to play on Wednesday.

Smith needed help getting to the Rockets bench, which was scary, but fortunately he avoided major damage. The Rockets have a well-timed two-day break before hosting the Bucks.
Feb 24 - 1:49 AM

Greg Smith hit 5-of-5 shots off the bench for 10 points, four rebounds and a block in Friday's win.

He's going to get some minutes at power forward, but with Carlos Delfino playing so well as the starter, and Thomas Robinson soon to be an option at PF for the Rockets, we doubt Smith will see enough minutest to be able to make much of a fantasy dent.
Feb 23 - 12:13 AM

Greg Smith took over as the backup center with Cole Aldrich being traded Wednesday, scoring eight points with four boards and two blocks in 21 minutes.

There isn't a whole lot to be excited about here since Omer Asik (nine points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes) plays 30 minutes per game and the Rockets' up-tempo pace isn't a great setup for the 250-pound Smith. Donatas Motiejunas played just five minutes and scored two points. Thomas Robinson isn't completely assured of seeing a big chunk of minutes at power forward, but he still looks like a solid pickup.
Feb 21 - 1:50 AM

The Rockets assigned Greg Smith to the D-League on Sunday.

Smith was on a nice run earlier this season, making nearly every shot he took around the basket and displaying great hands in traffic, but he's since fallen out of Kevin McHale's rotations.
