Greg Smith failed his physical and will not join the Pelicans.

He's had a number of injuries, including a bad knee injury two seasons ago. Smith could wind up on other team after he gets healthy.

Greg Smith agreed to a non-guaranteed deal with the Pelicans.

The Pelicans need a big man in the worst way. Omer Asik (calf) and Alexis Ajinca (hamstring) could both miss the opener. Smith might have a tough time staying on the roster once the team gets healthy again.

Greg Smith "did not impress" in his workout for the Guangdong Tigers.

It doesn't sound like he'll be signing with the Chinese team anytime soon, and he'll look for his next opportunity as a result.

Former Dallas center Greg Smith will audition for the Guangdong Tigers in China.

We didn't hear of any reported interest from NBA teams during the summer, so it makes sense that he is eyeing a move overseas. Smith averaged 1.9 points and 1.9 boards in 42 appearances for the Mavs last season, but it doesn't sound like he will be back in the states any time soon.

Greg Smith played 23 minutes in a start for Tyson Chandler on Wednesday with four points, one assist and one block.

There's no indication that Chandler will need to miss time after the break, so Smith will likely move back into the background. Additionally, the Mavericks are using Dirk Nowitzki more at center, so Smith is no lock for any minutes at all. Bernard James also played 22 minutes with nine points, three rebounds and three blocks.

Greg Smith will start against the Jazz on Wednesday.

Tyson Chandler is not in the lineup and it's tough to tell how many minutes Smith will get tonight. He did only play nine minutes on Monday and will likely be in the teens tonight. Charlie Villanueva and Al-Farouq Aminu are likely the better plays tonight.

Greg Smith scored one point in a start for Tyson Chandler (ankle) on Wednesday with five boards and one block in 17 minutes.

Because of the Brandan Wright trade, Smith is Tyson Chandler's backup. He's not much of a scorer and is more of a banger on the glass, so he is going to need a lot of things to happen in order to have fantasy value in even extremely deep leagues.

Greg Smith (side) returned to action with 16 minutes during a 96-88 overtime win at Brooklyn on Monday, scoring five points with three rebounds, one assist and one block.

He is Tyson Chandler's backup, but won't play more than 20 minutes most nights. Smith has very little fantasy value.

Greg Smith (right side muscle strain) said that he expects to play Monday vs. the Nets.

Smith doesn't offer much fantasy value as a reserve for the Mavs, so his absence would mean more than his presence. If he sits, expect Tyson Chandler and Dirk Nowitzki to get all the run they can handle with Charlie Villanueva having some opportunity for increased minutes.

Greg Smith left Sunday's game vs. the Cavs with a right side muscle strain, and he will not return.

This leaves the Mavs very thin upfront, and it's not currently known how long this injury will sideline Smith. It's possible Charlie Villanueva picks up his reserve minutes, but his minutes have been trending down lately, so what's more likely is that Dirk Nowitzki and Tyson Chandler will get all the run they can handle.

Mavericks C Greg Smith played a season-high 25 minutes on Sunday, coming off the bench for four points, eight rebounds, one steal and two blocks in Tyson Chandler's absence.

Smith's minutes are already up since Brandan Wright was traded to the Celtics, though he hasn't done enough to warrant ownership in standard fantasy formats. The 23-year-old big man is only worth a look if you're in dire need of rebounds, especially while Chandler (back spasms) is day-to-day.

Greg Smith played 10 minutes off the bench on Saturday with one point and one board.

Yes, this is meaningless for just about everyone who plays fantasy basketball, but he is Tyson Chandler's backup now. Chandler does have a lot of injuries in his past so many Smith makes his way onto the fantasy radar at some point.

Greg Smith played two minutes off the Mavs' bench on Tuesday, committing one foul with no other stats to his credit.

The Mavs' bench isn't overflowing with big men, but Brandan Wright is the next man up and Smith will have to claw his way into meaningful minutes. That takes him out of the discussion for standard-league value, but his stellar FG percentages might eventually give him specialist appeal in very deep leagues.

The Mavericks have acquired Greg Smith from the Bulls.

Details have yet to be released on the deal, but it's essentially just a salary dumping move for Chicago to make room for Pau Gasol. Smith played 11 games for the Rockets last season before being waived in April. The Bulls then picked him up just before the season ended, and now he will be moved to Dallas. Smith boasts career averages of 5.3 points, and 2.5 rebounds per game, so he's not an option from a fantasy perspective.
