The Suns will keep John Jenkins on the opening night roster.

That will guarantee his $1.05 million salary for the season. Jenkins made the final roster spot over Archie Goodwin, who the Suns waived at Monday's deadline. The Suns are loaded with plenty of guard depth, so it is highly unlikely Jenkins has any fantasy value this season.

John Jenkins (abdomen) went through a team scrimmage on Monday.

He missed two preseason games due to the injury. Jenkins isn't a complete lock to make the roster, so staying healthy in the next week will be big for him.

John Jenkins (abdomen) will not play on Friday.

He's going to miss his second straight game. Jenkins has a chance to make the roster, but he's not a lock even with some guarantees on his deal.

John Jenkins (abdominal strain) will not play on Wednesday.

Brandon Knight is also sidelined by knee tendinitis, so it will be all hands on deck for the Suns' backcourt tonight. We're considering Jenkins day-to-day.

John Jenkins said that his preference would be to remain with the Suns.

"I want to be here," Jenkins said of the Suns. "I love how young we are and how we can grow and be better. I like it a lot." Jenkins will be fighting for a roster spot during training camp, but even if he does earn a spot on the opening night roster, he won't play enough in Phoenix to matter in any league.

The Suns plan to bring John Jenkins to training camp, and they have delayed his contract-guarantee date until October.

The challenge Jenkins faces is earning a roster spot in a crowded backcourt that just saw Leandro Barbosa added to a pool of young talent. The former first-round pick shot a career-best 40.6 percent from downtown last season, and even if the Suns don't sign him he's likely to stick around in the NBA.

John Jenkins believes he showed he's an NBA player during his stint with the Suns.

"I was able to show that I’m healthy," he said. "I’ve had people questioning that. I definitely showed that I can withstand a NBA season, shoot the ball well, expand other parts of my game and play at the highest level still. The way the direction is going and the youth movement here, I think I fit right in. I’m still a young guy with room to grow." Phoenix holds a team option on Jenkins for each of the next two seasons.

John Jenkins will come off the bench on Monday vs. the Wolves.

The Suns are rolling with a lineup of Brandon Knight, Devin Booker, P.J. Tucker, Alex Len and Tyson Chandler. Jenkins will have a limited role off the bench and belongs on the wire.

John Jenkins is embracing his fresh start with the Suns.

"Being a young player, that confidence is real big for me," Jenkins said. "I haven’t had too much of it with previous teams not playing, being in a suit and being inactive. It weighed on me quite a bit so now getting a fresh start here has been great." Earl Watson has previously said that the Suns want to take a look at what Jenkins brings after claiming him off of waivers, putting him on the radar in deeper formats as a bargain bin three-point specialist.

John Jenkins scored 11 points against the Kings on Friday in a start for Brandon Knight (illness), adding eight rebounds, two assists and three 3-pointers in 29 minutes.

Knight only has an upset stomach, so chances are he should be back for Saturday. Although, if Knight is out, this was an encouraging game from Jenkins. Keep him in mind for a DFS tournament target.

John Jenkins will be in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Kings with Brandon Knight (illness) unlikely to play.

Jenkins can fill it up when given the minutes, so he's someone to consider as a streamer option or punt play in DFS with a favorable matchup against Sacramento. Archie Goodwin will also likely see an uptick in minutes sans Knight, while Devin Booker will be more involved with running the offense.

Earl Watson said that he wants to use the remaining 11 games of the season to evaluate John Jenkins, which will cost Archie Goodwin minutes.

"It’s the need to see John," Watson said. "We obviously made a transaction and a move to get him here for a reason... He’s coming in here and putting up points quickly. It’s unique to see him play and moving forward, you have to think we need to build depth at that two-guard position." Watson added that he already knows what Goodwin brings to the table, and after picking up three straight DNP-CDs, Goodwin doesn't appear likely to make his way back into the rotation any time soon. Jenkins is still only playing limited minutes off the bench, so he's not worth owning in most leagues.
Thu, Mar 24, 2016 03:33:00 PM

John Jenkins played 26 minutes off the bench against the Heat on Thursday with five points, two rebounds and no turnovers.

He played down the stretch in this game during the Suns no-PG lineup -- it wasn't true garbage time with the teams keeping their guys in there until late. Jenkins could see minutes in the 20s, but he's not exactly a great per-minute player. He's only worth a look in very deep leagues because it's not like he'll be taking minutes from Devin Booker.
Thu, Mar 3, 2016 10:03:00 PM

John Jenkins played four minutes in his Suns debut on Thursday with two points, one rebound and one turnover.

He only came in for garbage time, so the Suns are unlikely to get him involved in the early going. Jenkins is only a desperation add in deep leagues.
