Starting in place of Al Horford (rest), Tyler Zeller finished Saturday's 104-86 preseason win vs. the Hornets with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and a block on 5-of-7 shooting over 24 minutes of action.
Zeller's playing time will be sporadic at best given the names in front of him, but he always seems to be ready to contribute when his number is called. It's nice to have that kind of player on your bench, but Horford's arrival really leaves no room for enthusiasm when assessing Zeller's fantasy prospects. Oct 8 - 6:44 PM

Tyler Zeller called his 2015-16 "frustrating" due to inconsistent playing time.

If that's the case, we're not sure why he re-signed with Boston. Despite paying him $8M for the 2016-17 campaign, Zeller isn't guaranteed anything with Al Horford now entrenched in the starting lineup and the Celtics having a multitude of options on the roster.

Brad Stevens said he was "thrilled" that the Celtics were able to re-sign Tyler Zeller.

"We’ve talked about Tyler’s consistency and approach, regardless of minutes. He’s been a great pro," Stevens said. "He’s had great moments here, both as a player and as a teammate. And we’re thrilled that he’s back." Zeller will likely be the third center on the depth chart behind Al Horford and Kelly Olynyk, so his path to minutes isn't great. He signed a two-year, $16 million deal, but the second year of the deal isn't guaranteed which could make him a valuable trade chip.

Tyler Zeller's minutes in Boston this season will likely be "infrequent."

You would think he'd be in line for a larger role after signing a two-year, $16 million deal, but that's not going to happen with Al Horford and Amir Johnson around. With a strong training camp, Zeller might be able to earn minutes in the teens.

Tyler Zeller signed his deal with the Celtics on Wednesday.

He signed a two-year, $16 million deal, but the second year is a team option in case the Celtics want to free up cap space for 2017. Zeller will provide some depth up front, but won't see many minutes with Al Horford and Amir Johnson around.
Jul 28 - 9:44 AM

Tyler Zeller has agreed to a two-year, $16 million deal with the Celtics.

The second year of the deal is a team option, so the Celtics will still keep their financial flexibility for the 2017 offseason. Zeller was solid in limited minutes last season, averaging 6.1 points, 3.0 boards and 0.4 blocks in 11.8 minutes per game. He won't have much fantasy value with Amir Johnson and Al Horford around.
Jul 23 - 11:22 AM

Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald does not believe RFA Tyler Zeller will re-sign with the Celtics.

There's just no room for Zeller given the current construction of Boston's frontcourt. Although the big man showed some flashes throughout the 2015-16 season, he'll need to show more on a consistent basis to be a real fantasy threat. It's unlikely he winds up with a team that's going to give him a clear path to minutes.
Jul 6 - 12:12 PM

The Celtics have reportedly extended a qualifying offer to Tyler Zeller, making him a restricted free agent.

Zeller is woefully inconsistent, and it's tough to see him landing in a situation where he's not a backup. He won't be a realistic fantasy option in most settings, regardless of where he signs.
Jun 29 - 2:16 PM

Tyler Zeller scored a career-high tying 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting Friday, to go with three boards, two assists and four blocks in 25 minutes.

Zeller ended Isaiah Thomas' 17-game streak as the Celtics leading scorer in this one, but that's obviously not a trend that will continue. In his previous three outings, Zeller has logged seven, 18 and zero minutes and he’s just not a consistent enough part of the rotation to warrant ownership in most leagues.
Apr 8 - 11:47 PM

Tyler Zeller scored four points with six rebounds and one turnover in 18 minutes against the Jazz on Friday.

He should see minutes close to 20 now that Kelly Olynyk (shoulder) is out and David Lee is gone. Zeller is only worth a look if you missed out on like 20 other pickups from tonight.
Feb 20 - 3:37 AM

Tyler Zeller played only six minutes off the Celtics' bench on Wednesday.

Zeller had a stretch of strong games to begin February, and Brad Stevens recently called him "a stable presence at the rim," but his disappearance tonight is typical of the Celtics' chaotic frontcourt rotation. If you picked him up while he was hot, this is your cue to cut him.
Feb 11 - 12:13 AM

Coach Brad Stevens called Tyler Zeller a "stable presence at the rim."

"Tyler’s always going to run the floor really hard and he’s always going to roll to the rim really hard," Stevens said. "So you’ve got a stable presence at the rim. We were getting some good things from our shooters, so to have a guy that’s going to be at the rim opens up some opportunities for the guys on the perimeter." Over his last four games, Zeller is averaging 13.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks, but he's played more than 25 minutes just once during that span. The Celtics have a ton of options in the frontcourt, making Zeller a tough player to rely on in standard formats.
Feb 8 - 9:06 AM

Tyler Zeller scored a season-high 17 points vs. Sacramento on Sunday, sinking 6-of-8 FGs and 5-of-5 FTs with seven rebounds, two blocks and one assist.

Zeller did his damage in just 22 minutes and he's demanding a share of frontcourt minutes -- over his past four games he's averaging 13.8 points on 68.6 percent shooting, to go along with 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 blocks. He's playing just 20.8 minutes during that span, however, and most owners should leave him on the wire.
Feb 7 - 4:40 PM

Tyler Zeller scored 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting Friday, to go with four boards, one assist and three turnovers through 20 minutes of action.

Zeller's playing time has been sporadic throughout the season, but he's been a more consistent part of the rotation over the past three averaging 12.7 points, 6.3 boards and 1.0 block in 20.0 minutes per outing. He's more of a speculative add in really deep leagues, but he could also fall out of the rotation at a moments notice, so don't cut anyone with long-term value to nab him.
Feb 6 - 12:26 AM

Tyler Zeller, who went off for his best game of the season on Tuesday, played just 14 minutes on Wednesday.

He still managed to put up six points, five rebounds, four assists, a steal and three blocks despite the limited minutes. He's played well in two straight games, but minutes are still a big concern and he'll need a bigger role going forward if he's going to warrant a fantasy pickup.
