Tyler Zeller and the Celtics are expected to continue talks about a possible contract extension.
Although there is nothing imminent, both the Celtics and Zeller have expressed a desire to get an extension done. While a desire is nice, it won't much matter if Zeller's agent and the Celtics don't view the big man in the same light. Oct 5 - 10:17 AM

Tyler Zeller said that it would be "nice" to sign an extension with the Celtics.

"It would be nice to have an extension, just a little more security," Zeller admitted. "But at the same time, you have to approach the year and you can’t be heartbroken if you don’t get it. You have to make sure you’re fully prepared. Either way, I have to do my job this year. I have one more year on my contract. So I have to go out and do as much as I can to help our team this year." Zeller will be playing in a very crowded rotation in Boston, which will likely take him out of the standard league conversation.

Celtics president Danny Ainge said the team is still in the preliminary stages of extension talks with Tyler Zeller.

Ainge made a similar statement at the beginning of September, so it doesn't sound like the Celtics are any closer to extending Zeller in advance of the October 31 deadline. Celtics beat writers have hinted that Zeller is the player most likely to sign an extension that will keep him from being a restricted free agent after the season, but we'll keep an eye on the situation. The 25-year-old is worth a look towards the end of drafts after averaging 10.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks last season, but he doesn't have much upside playing in a crowded Boston front court.

The Celtics have had extension talks with Tyler Zeller, according to president of basketball operations Danny Ainge.

Ainge said he has had preliminary talks with the agents of both Zeller and Jared Sullinger in advance of the October 31 dealine. "Obviously, those are two guys that we like moving forward," Ainge said. "So, yeah, there will be more discussions with both of them, probably during the month of October." We'll keep an eye on Zeller's contract situation, but he's not worth a draft pick in standard fantasy leagues after averaging 10.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks per game last season.

Tyler Zeller is reportedly considering agreeing to an extension with the Celtics.

If Zeller wants to maximize his value, restricted agency would likely be the best route, although there is a belief that Zeller would like to lock in to an extension now in order to give himself some security. With the additions of David Lee and Amir Johnson, it could be tough for Zeller to return to last season's averages of 10.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 0.6 blocks per game.

Tyler Zeller is likely to have his contract extended by the Celtics, according to A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.

Zeller is one of three members of the 2012 draft class eligible for an extension (along with Jared Sullinger and Perry Jones) and Blakely said Zeller is the most likely of the three to receive a contract extension prior to the October 31 deadline. While the 25-year-old may soon see a pay raise, his 2014 averages of 10.2 points and 5.7 rebounds limit him to more of a deep-league fantasy option.

Tyler Zeller started Tuesday's game vs. the Cavs and finished with 11 points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.

He was benched after halftime on Sunday, giving way to Kelly Olynyk's hot hand, but that proved to be a temporary move from Brad Stevens. Zeller was hot in the first quarter but the Celts' offense veered away from him as the game progressed, and he finished just 5-of-8 from the field.
Apr 21 - 9:59 PM

Tyler Zeller started Sunday's Game 1 vs. the Cavaliers but he played only 15 minutes and was benched to begin the second half.

He finished with six points on 3-of-5 shooting, two rebounds and one steal, giving way after halftime to a frontcourt of Kelly Olynyk and Brandon Bass. The Cavs' proclivity for small lineups may make it hard for Zeller to match the 22.7 minutes he averaged after the All-Star break.
Apr 19 - 7:19 PM

Tyler Zeller played 18 minutes against the Cavs on Friday with 13 points, six boards, three assists and one steal.

His minutes have decreased since Jared Sullinger's return with 21 minutes coming on Wednesday and 25 on Saturday. Zeller will likely get to start the rest of the regular season, but he's tough to count on with so many guys getting minutes.
Apr 10 - 11:18 PM

Tyler Zeller came off the bench to start the second half on Wednesday against the Pistons, finishing with six points, seven boards and three fouls in 21 minutes.

He's come off the bench to start the second half a handful of times this season, so this isn't a demotion or anything. Zeller should be able to log minutes in the low 20s, but it's hard to keep him owned when his blocks have disappeared. He's likely going to start on Friday against the Cavs.
Apr 8 - 11:25 PM

Tyler Zeller made 8-of-9 from the field for 19 points with three rebounds, three assists, one steal and one turnover in 24 minutes against the Pacers on Wednesday.

He made Roy Hibbert look like Doctor Hibbert from The Simpsons in the win -- Hibbert wasn't laughing, though. Zeller has looked good in his last five, averaging 11.0 points, 5.0 boards, 1.4 assists and 0.2 blocks on 63.2 percent from the field. He's an end-of-the-bench option in standard leagues due to the low blocks.
Apr 2 - 12:06 AM

Tyler Zeller was one of six Celtics in double-figures on Sunday, scoring 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting with five rebounds in a failed comeback attempt vs. L.A.

Zeller averaged 15.5 minutes in his previous two games, which highlights the main reason why he's a shaky fantasy option in Boston's deep frontcourt rotation. He played only 21 minutes tonight and didn't step on the court while they whittled a 35-point lead down to as few as 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Mar 29 - 9:15 PM

Tyler Zeller played just 12 minutes with two points, three boards and two fouls against the Knicks on Friday.

Ouch. The Celtics went small and that could have been because the Knicks don't have real size in their rotation. Zeller should be better against the Clippers on Sunday because DeAndre Jordan is a large human being.
Mar 28 - 1:04 AM

Tyler Zeller scored 18 points on 9-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds, three assists and one block in Monday's road win over the Nets.

Zeller is returning modest late-round value for owners lately and the Celtics have a nice schedule both this week and next. He and Kelly Olynyk (18 points, five boards, three treys, 17 minutes) haven't always been able to produce at the same time, but we did see it for a stretch earlier in the season.
Mar 23 - 10:28 PM

Tyler Zeller was benched in favor of Kelly Olynyk to start the second half in Sunday's game vs. the Pistons, finishing with 10 points, four boards, one assist and one steal in 20 minutes.

This wasn't the first time that Zeller has been benched to start the second half, but Andre Drummond was having a feast in the paint for the Pistons and scored 18 points with 22 boards, meaning the Celtics had to shake things up. Even though Olynyk still isn't playing well, the Celtics have invested a lot in him and they will likely give him more opportunities to succeed. A lineup change isn't imminent by any means, but Zeller is better suited for deeper leagues until further notice.
