Tyler Zeller said that his goal is to start at center for the Celtics this season.
"I have a lot of work to do to earn that spot. I expect to have to earn it, but I think it is a great opportunity," Zeller said. He's bulked up to 260 lbs. this summer, which he hopes will allow him to "hold [his] own rebounding-wise, as well as in the post." He faces plenty of competition from Jared Sullinger, Kelly Olynyk and Vitor Faverani, but there's a good chance he'll be in the starting five on opening night. Sep 16 - 5:36 PM

Tyler Zeller's agent Sam Goldfeder is hopeful that his client will benefit from having a familiarity with Celtics head coach Brad Stevens.

Stevens (unsuccessfully) recruited both Zeller and his brother Cody when he was the head coach at Butler University, but is someone who is respected by the Zeller family. "Coach Stevens is someone the Zeller family thought a great deal about as a man," Goldfeder said. "They share similar values off the court. I think that obviously, Brad expects excellence on the court, discipline, hard work and that's what Tyler is all about." While Zeller has experienced limited success in two NBA seasons, the 24-year-old should see enough minutes for the rebuilding Celtics to provide some value in deeper fantasy leagues.

The Celtics acquired Tyler Zeller as part of Wednesday's three-team trade with the Cavaliers and Nets.

Zeller joins a frontcourt already teeming with young big men -- Brandon Bass, Jared Sullinger, Kelly Olynyk and Vitor Faverani are all under guaranteed contracts for the 2014-15 season. Zeller looked more comfortable in his second NBA season but his playing time dipped, and he averaged 5.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in 15 minutes per game. Even a slightly bigger role wouldn't yield reliable fantasy value.

Tyler Zeller had 22 points, 11 rebounds, a steal and two blocks in Wednesday's easy win over the Nets.

Anderson Varejao sat this one out, clearing the way for Zeller to succeed off the bench. The starters, Tristan Thompson, Alonzo Gee, Spencer Hawes, Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters all scored in double figures tonight, but none of them topped Zeller's 22 points. Now the attention in Cleveland can officially turn to whether Irving is going to stay or go.
Apr 16 - 11:43 PM

Tyler Zeller shot 9-of-11 from the field against the Pistons on Wednesday for 18 points with six boards, one steal and two blocks in 24 minutes.

The Pistons get a lot of press for their interior game and they do lead the NBA in percentage of points scored in the paint, but the Cavs dominated that facet of the game tonight. They outscored them 54-38 in the paint tonight and Zeller was the highest-scoring big man in this game. Still, he can be ignored in most leagues.
Apr 9 - 10:06 PM

Tyler Zeller played 16 minutes vs. the Pacers on Sunday with three points, two boards and four fouls.

He is going to get some extra run with Anderson Varejao (shoulder) suffering an injury. Obviously, Zeller is only worth a look in deep leagues and his weak schedule doesn't help.
Mar 30 - 6:37 PM

Tyler Zeller scored a career-high 23 points vs. the Rockets on Saturday with six boards, two assists and one block.

He shot 10-of-16 from the field and coach Mike Brown decided to go with Zeller over Spencer Hawes. The Rockets completely shut Hawes down, which caused Brown to make a bold move. We'd have to see it again before signing off as Zeller as a pickup.
Mar 22 - 10:14 PM

Tyler Zeller played 14 minutes on Sunday for six points, four boards and one block.

He wasn't really doing much with his minutes before the arrival of Spencer Hawes and he's been worse in his last two. Zeller has improved as a whole compared to his rookie season, but he still really can't be counted on in almost any league right now. Even if he keeps his starting job until Anderson Varejao comes back, the minutes don't seem like they'll be there.
Feb 23 - 9:06 PM

The discussion of a Tyler Zeller for Reggie Bullock deal has hit a snag and is "not happening."

The Cavs certainly have a lot less to give with Zeller likely to fall out of their rotation once Anderson Varejao (knee) comes back. Fantasy owners can keep Zeller as a plug-and-play in very deep leagues, but he obviously lost a lot of value with the arrival of Spencer Hawes.
Feb 20 - 1:16 PM

The Cavs and Clippers are talking about a swap of Tyler Zeller for Reggie Bullock on Thursday.

Coach Doc Rivers reportedly liked Zeller back when he was the coach of the Celtics and the Clippers have no depth behind DeAndre Jordan at center. Jordan is very durable and has shown he's capable of playing big minutes, so Zeller doesn't project to be a major piece. He's obviously very expendable in Cleveland with the arrival of Spencer Hawes. Sam Amico is also reporting that Zeller could be heading to the Clippers, but details are scarce.
Feb 20 - 12:02 PM

The Cavaliers are reportedly shopping C Tyler Zeller, who has had a nice two-game run in the absence of Anderson Varejao (back).

The Cavs just acquired C Spencer Hawes from the Sixers, making Zeller expendable, so it makes sense. Zeller has averaged 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks over his last two games, both starts for the injured Varejao.
Feb 20 - 10:51 AM

Tyler Zeller had 16 points, six rebounds and three blocks in Wednesday's win.

Anderson Varejao remains sidelined with a back injury and Zeller has taken advantage, averaging 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks over his last two games. He'll come crashing back to earth once Varejao is back.
Feb 19 - 11:09 PM

Tyler Zeller torched the Sixers for 18 points, 15 rebounds and a block on 6-of-14 shooting Tuesday in a start for injured Anderson Varejao.

Both the points and rebounds were season highs for Zeller and props are in order for owners who used him in daily money leagues. This was easily his best game of the season, if not his career, and he will be hard pressed to do it again on Magic on Wednesday, although Varejao doesn't sound likely for that one, either.
Feb 18 - 10:45 PM

Tyler Zeller started at center on Tuesday with Anderson Varejao out with back/knee/wrist issues and had six points and four rebounds in 18 minutes.

He'll get another start on Wednesday, as Varejao won't travel for that one, either. Zeller isn't exactly getting it done whether starting or coming off the bench, so we don't see a reason to pick him up at this point in time.
Feb 11 - 10:24 PM

Tyler Zeller will start in place of Anderson Varejao against the Kings on Tuesday.

It will be his fourth start of the season for the Cavs and it hasn't gone well. Over his last four starts, Zeller averaged just 6.3 points, 4.7 boards, 0.3 blocks and 1.3 steals in 21.0 minutes. He's only a deep-league plug and play and is a good bet to get into some foul trouble, as well.
