Celtics head coach Brad Stevens implied that it's tough to get Tyler Zeller minutes in Boston's crowded frontcourt.
"Tyler's a really good player," Stevens said. "We just have a lot of bigs. I don't know how else to say it. We haven't shot it great so you want to play some guys that can stretch the floor and be guarded when the floor is stretched. And that leaves at least one person out." Stevens went on to say that he sees Zeller having a "huge role" for the team, but that's probably wishful thinking. Zeller is averaging just 8.0 minutes per game this season and is well off the fantasy radar. Nov 14 - 12:03 PM

Tyler Zeller didn't fare well in his move to a bench role, going scoreless with one rebound and one assist in three minutes.

It seems like a matter of time before Zeller drops completely out of the equation, as Boston's six-man frontcourt rotation doesn't seem sustainable. If you haven't cut him yet, do so now.
Nov 4 - 9:58 PM

The Celtics decided not to sign Tyler Zeller to a contract extension.

The lack of extension means Zeller is eligible to become a restricted free agent after the season, but that doesn't rule out a long-term deal with Boston. The 23-year-old is a solid rotation player for the Celtics, but doesn't provide enough consistency to warrant a roster spot in standard fantasy leagues.

Tyler Zeller has been working to become a better face-up shooter.

"It is something we’re trying to incorporate," Zeller said. "And I keep getting more comfortable with it. It is a work in progress for me, for sure." We've seen Zeller do more this season and even incorporate a floater at times, but it hasn't translated into any kind of fantasy revelation. He's averaging 5.3 points and nothing else in 11 minutes per game so far this season.

Tyler Zeller is not expected to receive a contract extension from the Celtics prior to Monday's deadline.

There had been some scuttlebutt that Zeller and the Celtics were working on a deal, but it doesn't appear those talks really went anywhere.

Nov 2 - 9:16 AM

Tyler Zeller played just six minutes in a start on Sunday with one rebound and one assist.

He is in the doghouse right now. He did not play at al after the first quarter with coach Brad Stevens benching him. "We've got a lot of bigs. We're still working through it. That's not on Tyler, that's on me," Stevens said. This is not going to be fun for fantasy owners, so owners of Zeller will probably want to move on.
Nov 1 - 7:20 PM

Brad Stevens will go with the same starting lineup of Marcus Smart, Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, David Lee and Tyler Zeller for Sunday's matchup with the Spurs.

Zeller was benched to begin the second-half of Friday's game against the Raptors in favor of Jared Sullinger, but Stevens will keep him in the starting five for now. The five-big rotation of Zeller, Lee, Sullinger, Kelly Olynyk and Amir Johnson in Boston isn't a great situation for fantasy value, although Johnson and Lee have been able to muster up low-end value in deep leagues. Still, this is something we'd recommend avoiding in standard formats.

Tyler Zeller played just 16 minutes against the Raptors on Friday with 10 points, one assist and three fouls.

He didn't have any other stats and being a liability on defense is really hurting him right now. Coach Brad Stevens has given him an extremely short leash with so much depth up front, so it's not going to be fun to own Zeller in most leagues. His owners might want to look for other options.
Oct 30 - 10:50 PM

Tyler Zeller will start again on Friday against the Raptors on Friday.

He was destroyed in the first quarter against Jahlil Okafor, so Jared Sullinger started the second half. The Celtics did not have a single lineup combo over five minutes in the opener, so this rotation is a mess.
Oct 30 - 5:40 PM

Tyler Zeller was benched to begin the second half of Wednesday's game, which he finished with only six points and one rebound in 11 minutes.

He was torched defensively by rookie Jahlil Okafor, which was the likely source of his unexpected benching -- Jared Sullinger took his place. We'll keep an eye on Boston's rotation over the next few days, but this obviously does nothing to improve Zeller's already-shaky fantasy prospects.
Oct 28 - 10:27 PM

Coach Brad Stevens is leaning towards starting Marcus Smart, Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, David Lee and Tyler Zeller.

Zeller had himself a very nice preseason while Amir Johnson didn't disappoint either. Zeller was at his best in December last year, but he kind of fizzled out as the year went on. Still, he is a fine pick late in drafts.
Oct 26 - 2:21 PM

According to the Boston Herald, Tyler Zeller isn't expected to get a contract extension unless it is for a very favorable deal.

The Celtics want to keep their financial flexibility, so it doesn't sound the two sides will come to an agreement. Zeller is the favorite to start at center this season and has played very well in the preseason, but his minutes could be held in check due to a deep frontcourt rotation. He is worth a look towards the end of standard drafts.
Oct 23 - 11:56 AM

Tyler Zeller may have locked down his starting job at center on Thursday, scoring 15 points with five rebounds, one assist and no turnovers in 20 minutes.

His offensive game was very good this month, posting a 58.2 true shooting percentage to go with a 22.8 usage rate. Zeller only really had about one month of lighting it up last year and he's not a great shot blocker, so he's really just a late-round guy at best. To be clear, he's worth your last pick in a standard league if you missed out on center depth.
Oct 22 - 10:43 PM

Brad Stevens implied that Tyler Zeller may be the Celtics starting center on opening night.

"My thought right now is we won’t play more than four [bigs] on most nights," Stevens said. "Whoever those four may be, may depend on the night, may depend on how they’re playing, may depend on who is healthy." Stevens has already stated that he knows what group of players he likes playing together, so based on Boston's first two preseason games it would appear that David Lee and Tyler Zeller have secured their spot in the starting lineup, with Amir Johnson and Kelly Olynyk the first two off the bench. This isn't great news for Jared Sullinger and Jonas Jerebko, who have been the last few to leave the bench in the Celtics crowded rotation, and this situation in general is not ideal for fantasy hoops. Lee is really the only guy worth targeting with a late-round pick in standard leagues.

Tyler Zeller is still hoping he and the Celtics can agree to a contract extension.

Zeller has until October 31 to sign an extension that will keep him from becoming a restricted free agent after the 2015-16 season, but isn't sweating the deadline. "I’ve heard that," said Zeller. "Look, it’s one of those things that, would it be great to get one? Yeah. But at the same time, you know, I’ve got one more year on my contract. I love playing, and I’m just going to try to do whatever I can to play as well as I can. Whether I’ve got one year left or six years left, I’m just going to keep playing hard." Zeller has some value in deeper fantasy leagues, but is stuck in a frontcourt logjam and will struggle to provide consistent value in standard leauges.
