Restricted free agent Will Barton is reportedly at the top of Denver's "to-do list," and the Nuggets can match any offer he receives.
Barton surged after being traded to Denver last year -- in his final 28 games he averaged 11.0 points, 0.7 triples, 4.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 steals in only 24 minutes per game. He's likely to draw interest from multiple teams, but the Nuggets' willingness to match will make him a very difficult target. Jun 30 - 7:37 PM

The Nuggets have extended a qualifying offer of $1.2 million to Will Barton, effectively making him a restricted free agent.

Barton has expressed a desire to return to the Nuggets during free agency, and he had a nice run during his 28 games with the Nuggets during the 2014-15 season compiling averages of 11.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. With the Nuggets at full strength, it'll be very difficult for Barton to even leave the bench. He's not likely to be a standard league asset next season.
Jun 23 - 4:39 PM

Will Barton and the Nuggets both hope to come to terms on an extension this summer.

"I definitely would like to come back," Barton said. "They gave me a chance. I feel like we've got some good guys on this team, and if we keep building we have a strong future." There's almost no doubt he'll get a qualifying offer, which will make him a restricted free agent. In the two months with the Nuggets, Barton averaged 11.0 points, 4.6 boards and 1.2 steals.

May 6 - 6:12 PM

Will Barton logged 26 minutes on Monday, scoring 11 points on 3-of-10 shooting (no threes) with eight rebounds and two assists.

Barton hit 5-of-6 free throws but surprisingly had no defensive stats. The Nuggets rested Ty Lawson and Danilo Gallinari, and if either Lawson or Randy Foye sits on Wednesday then we'd consider using him on a busy night.
Apr 14 - 5:16 AM

Will Barton had another quiet game on Sunday with 10 points, one 3-pointer, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in just 18 minutes off the bench.

He shot 4-of-8 from the field and it's anyone's guess why the Nuggets are limiting him in favor of veterans like Randy Foye (29 minutes) and Wilson Chandler (30 minutes). We've seen what Barton can do when handed a blank check offensively, but he's a very shaky fantasy option while logging 15-20 minutes in a reserve role.
Apr 12 - 7:42 PM

Will Barton managed just four points on 2-of-9 shooting with two rebounds, one assist and two steals in 26 minutes off the bench on Friday against the Spurs.

The Spurs can make things go haywire but this one hurt for owners counting on his low-end production. Barton fits the description of somebody that could rack up numbers at the end of a lost season, but it hasn't happened so far.
Apr 4 - 1:51 AM

Will Barton hit 6-of-12 shots and a 3-pointer for 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in 23 minutes off the bench on Wednesday.

Barton isn't killing it like he was a few weeks ago, but he's scored between 11 and 13 points in four of his last five games, and is averaging 10.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.6 3-pointers on 49 percent shooting over his last five. That may make him worth a look if you need a warm body to replace an injured one in your deep league.
Apr 2 - 1:33 AM

Will Barton scored 12 points on 6-of-8 from the field against the Blazers on Saturday with seven boards, three assists, one steal and one block in 25 minutes.

He was known as Will the Thrill and the People's Champ in Portland as one of the fan favorites and he was quite comfortable tonight. Plus, he did the ol' inbounds pass of an opponent and was able to get an easy dunk. Barton is doing a fine job of adding multiple stats for his fantasy owners, but it's going to sting to have him on your roster because the Nuggets are off until Wednesday while tons of teams will play two games in that span.
Mar 29 - 12:33 AM

Will Barton double-doubled off the bench on Friday, scoring 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting (including two threes) with 10 rebounds and two assists in just 20 minutes.

Barton continues to hang onto late-round value in his low-minute role and it's enough to keep throwing kindling on the fire. If he can see some key guys ahead of him call it an early season, there is potential for him to post some really active lines. On the other hand, the Nuggets finish the fantasy playoffs with a pair of three-game weeks so that is working against him.
Mar 28 - 2:51 AM

Will Barton did not play in the fourth quarter against the 76ers on Wednesday, finishing with six points, five rebounds, one block and one turnover in 22 minutes.

He wasn't the worst player on the team tonight and coach Melvin Hunt likely just went with some other guys down the stretch. It didn't work with the 76ers winning the fourth quarter 27-9, so at least Barton has that going for him. He should get some extra minutes with the Nuggets having a back-to-back set this weekend.
Mar 26 - 2:32 AM

Will Barton is hoping to stick around with the Nuggets beyond this season.

"No doubt," Barton said. "I think we can build something here. We have a lot of good talent, a good organization, coaching staff is good. I can see us building and having a strong future here. We can grow together." The Nuggets can extend Barton a qualifying offer in the summer that estimates to be around $1.1 million, and if he accepts it would make him a restricted free agent. Barton has played well in Denver and is averaging 10.2 points, 4.6 boards, 2.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.0 3-pointer in just over 26 minutes per game over his last five, making him a viable asset in deeper leagues.

Mar 25 - 10:23 AM

Will Barton had 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals off the bench vs. Orlando on Sunday.

Randy Foye was out with a stomach illness, setting up Barton for a solid game but instead he played only 25 minutes, much of which came during garbage time. He has had a few offensive explosions since the All-Star break and does just enough to hold steady late-round value in most leagues.
Mar 22 - 8:59 PM

Will Barton scored seven points on 2-of-5 shooting (including a three) with two rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block in 17 minutes off the bench on Friday.

If Barton can rack up the money stats like this on bad nights he'll be set, and he's still pushing top-70 value this past week despite two low-minute outings in a row. He'll probably need some injuries ahead of him to feel good about his role, but consistency isn't an issue as he has been a top 90-100 player for 16 games now.
Mar 21 - 1:21 AM

Will Barton scored just three points with five rebounds, one steal and two turnovers on 1-of-6 from the field in 19 minutes against the Rockets on Thursday.

That's two really bad games in a row following his 1-of-5 from the field on Monday. Barton had a 25-point game on Sunday and his value is going to be a roller coaster going forward. The Nuggets are on the second half of a road-road back-to-back on Friday, so maybe the front offices rests guys again like they did on Monday. He's not a must-own player, but there is some reward to go with the risk, obviously.
Mar 19 - 11:35 PM

Will Barton scored five points on 1-of-5 shooting (including a three) with two rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in 23 minutes off the bench on Monday against the Grizzlies.

Barton's field goal attempts were down in a decidedly Memphis-style game, but he flashed his trademark versatility to save his night. He's averaging 13.4 points, 1.0 treys, 4.5 boards, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks while hitting 47.1 percent from the field and 78.8 percent from the line over his last 14 games. That's good for top 75-80 value in a decently-sized sample in standard leagues and that's before we get to the injury prone folks surrounding him in the rotation. Sleep on Barton at your own risk.
