Free agent power forward Mike Scott said he'd be happy to find a role similar to the one he had in 2017-18.
"I’m a realist. I’m comfortable in my role like how I am whether it’s coming off the bench," Scott said. "Either way, starting or coming off the bench I always stay the same, play my role and that’s about it." Scott had a fantastic year off the bench in Washington, averaging 8.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.9 triples in 18.5 minutes. He was tied for 11th in the NBA with a 59.0 effective field goal percentage and has set himself up for a significant raise this offseason. May 5 - 9:14 AM

The Wizards are interested in re-signing Mike Scott, but have limited cap space this summer.

Scott exceeded expectations this season. He appeared in 76 games and averaged 8.8 points while shooting a career-best 52.7 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from downtown. With three max contracts on the books (John Wall, Bradley Beal and Otto Porter Jr.), Washington is dangerously close to bumping up against the luxury tax threshold. They may also choose to prioritize defense over offense off the bench.

Mike Scott scored 12 points with three rebounds, two assists, one steal and two 3-pointesr in 26 minutes off the bench against the Raptors on Friday.

Coach Scott Brooks said he wanted Scott out there in the second unit to combat the Toronto bench mob, and he came through with a +13 in plus-minus. Scott should continue to see minutes in the upper 20s and he may even see more run if Markieff Morris is in trouble for touching a ref.
Apr 20 - 10:51 PM

Mike Scott is coming off the bench again for Game 3 on Friday.

Coach Scott Brooks explained the move to keep Scott in the second unit. "We need to counter their bench attack and Mike has been a big part of that," Brooks said. He's hit 27 minutes in each of the last two games with a 20-point game coming in Game 2. Expect him to get minutes in the 20s again and he could close, especially if the Wizards are trailing.
Apr 20 - 6:27 PM

Coach Scott Brooks said Mike Scott "might" replace Marcin Gortat in the first unit.

"Who knows?" Brooks said. "He might be a starting five [option]." The Wizards are not getting much out of Gortat these days, but that would be a major switch for their offense because of how many 1-5 pick-and-roll plays they run with Gortat and John Wall. Scott is coming off a 20-point game, but changing roles could alter his efficiency.
Apr 18 - 5:44 PM

Mike Scott erupted for 20 points with four rebounds, one assist and four triples in Tuesday's loss to Toronto, shooting 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-2 from the line.

John Wall was the only starter that played more than 30 minutes and the second unit pretty much kept this game from getting out of hand. The Wizards weren't getting anything from Marcin Gortat (zero points in 12 minutes), so the Wizards went small for most of the evening. Scott has now played 27 minutes in back-to-back games and it's clear that he's going to have a big role in this series. He can expect to get a raise this summer.
Apr 17 - 10:09 PM

Mike Scott scored 14 points with three rebounds in 27 minutes against the Raptors on Saturday.

The Wizards had two roll with a two-PF lineup throughout the game because of foul trouble to the centers. Scott is likely going to have a strong series to keep the Wizards in it because of how the Raptors second unit can make such an impact.
Apr 14 - 8:11 PM

Mike Scott (concussion) will play on Saturday against the Raptors.

The Wizards are going to need some size up front against the Raptors, so having Scott available behind Markieff Morris helps their depth. Morris' upside is slightly capped now while Scott is still a risky DFS play.
Apr 14 - 2:12 PM

Mike Scott (concussion) is questionable for Game 1 vs. the Raptors on Saturday.

Scott was diagnosed with a concussion after he took a blow to the head in the fourth quarter of Wednesday game. He will have to clear through the NBA's concussion protocol before he is able to return to the floor. If Scott is unable to suit up, Jason Smith and Kelly Oubre would likely see an increase in playing time.
Apr 13 - 12:40 PM

Mike Scott has been diagnosed with a concussion.

He took a blow to the head on Wednesday night and didn't fly back with the team to Washington. Scott will be re-evaluated within 24 hours and should be considered questionable for Game 1 vs. the Raptors on Saturday. If Scott can't go, expect the Wizards to deploy more small-ball lineups.
Apr 12 - 1:42 PM

Mike Scott needed help getting to the locker room on Wednesday.

It's unclear what happened to Scott during the Wizards' regular-season finale, but "he nearly stumbled off the court before team staffers grabbed him." He didn't play for the final 4:29 and we'll list him on the injury report as a precaution -- hopefully he'll be ready to go for Game 1 vs. the Raptors.
Apr 11 - 11:30 PM

Mike Scott scored 15 points with four rebounds, one assist and two 3-pointers in 23 minutes against the Hornets on Saturday.

He started the second half because Markieff Morris (illness) couldn't continue after his start due to flu-like symptoms. If Morris can't play against the Bulls on Sunday, Scott could be in a great spot to produce against a poor defense.
Mar 31 - 6:24 PM

Mike Scott grabbed four rebounds in 12 minutes against the Nuggets on Friday.

He's been solid at times, but it's been a while since he was eating into the playing time of starters. Scott needs forwards to miss time to have value.
Mar 23 - 9:43 PM

Jodie Meeks (illness) and Mike Scott (illness) will be available for Friday against the Nuggets.

They both were sick for Wednesday against the Spurs, but both should be back in the rotation. Scott has played 17.5 minutes per game this month, and he's been in the teens for each of his previous five active outings. He's not really worth using while Markieff Morris, Kelly Oubre, Marcin Gortat and Otto Porter are healthy.
Mar 23 - 5:24 PM

Mike Scott (flu) will not play vs. the Spurs on Wednesday.

Jodie Meeks is also out tonight, which means the Wizards will be forced deeper into their bench -- Kelly Oubre should be very busy, while Ian Mahinmi and even Jason Smith could also pick up extra playing time. Markieff Morris should also get all the minutes he can handle.
