Lakers waive G Darius Johnson-Odom on Monday.
His contract would have become guaranteed on Jan. 10th and the Lakers have a pressing need for big men now that Dwight, Pau and Jordan Hill are all banged up, so this was an easy decision. Jan 7 - 5:04 PM

The Lakers assigned Darius Johnson-Odom to the D-League on Sunday.

He'll join the L.A. D-Fenders for now and the Lakers might be calling him back up to warm their bench in the future. He has no fantasy value.

The Lakers have assigned rookie Darius Johnson-Odom to the NBA Development League.

He'll head to the Los Angeles D-Fenders in time for team's training camp. He has played just one minute with the Lakers this season and the rookie is a long way from being on the fantasy radar.

The Lakers have "unofficially" decided to begin the season with 15 players, meaning Darius Johnson-Odom and Robert Sacre have made the team.

Both 2012 second-round picks have non-guaranteed contracts, and the Lakers could waive either or both at any point before the deals become guaranteed in January. Sacre is the better bet to see the floor between the two, but neither is going to be a part of the rotation.

Darius Johnson-Odom could soon be waived by the Lakers.

The second-round pick is highly athletic, but the Lakers are highly unlikely to keep him around given the current construction of the roster.

Darius Johnson-Odom has impressed coaches with his athleticism.

Unfortunately for DJO, he'll need to show more than athleticism to have a legitimate shot of making the final roster. He's an energy guy, and that will help his case to stick around, but he sorely needs to improve his raw offensive game.

Lakers sign second-round pick G Darius Johnson-Odom.

Johnson-Odom has no fantasy value right now, in Dynasty leagues or otherwise, and is simply trying to make the squad.

GM Mitch Kupchak is reportedly "noncommittal" on keeping second-round pick Darius Johnson-Odom.

The Lakers currently have 12 players under contract not including Devin Ebanks, who is expected to re-sign with the team. As a result, Johnson-Odom will have to play very well in training camp to make the Lakers' final roster, but even if he does, it's highly unlikely he'll have a regular role in the rotation at any point during the season.

The Lakers purchased the rights to Marquette SG Darius Johnson-Odom with the No. 55 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft (by way of the Mavs).

If Johnson-Odom stood taller than 6'3" he would be an easier sell to NBA GMs, but he never developed point guard skills and he has holes in his offensive game. Still, he can shoot and his athleticism gives him a puncher's chance at success in the NBA. His first step will be making the Lakers' roster.

Marquette SG Darius Johnson-Odom will join five other prospects for a workout with the Bucks on Sunday.

The group is mostly under-the-radar guards whom the Bucks would target with the No. 42 pick -- it's believed they'll target a big man with their No. 12 pick, such as Ohio State's Jared Sullinger or North Carolina's Tyler Zeller.
