Kyle O'Quinn and Kevin Seraphin are expected to have their roles determined in training camp.
Both big men have different things to prove, and each has to hold their own on defense in order to see the floor with any regularity. O'Quinn was the bigger investment this offseason, and he should have a leg up on Seraphin at the onset of the action. "The big key is about defending. That’s what it comes down to," Phil Jackson said. Sep 28 - 9:03 AM

Alan Hahn of ESPN Radio said that the Knicks could really use Kyle O'Quinn's hustle and muscle and that he needs to prove that he can play 25 minutes per game.

Phil Jackson has indicated that O'Quinn will see time at the four and five this season, so it wouldn't be a shock to see him carve out a significant role. The Knicks may not want to start rookie Kristaps Porzingis right away, so O'Quinn has a legitimate shot to open the season as the starter. For now, O'Quinn is simply just a late-round flier after a disappointing 2014-15 campaign in Orlando.

Kyle O'Quinn will play power forward and backup center for the Knicks.

Phil Jackson doesn't believe O'Quinn is a shot-blocker, but "he plays good position as well as good help defense." A previous blurb quoted Jackson as saying he would play backup power forward, but after review he simply said 'power forward,' which makes sense because the Knicks might not want to start Kristaps Porzingis right away.

The Knicks have officially completed their sign-and-trade deal for Kyle O'Quinn.

O'Quinn will help backup Robin Lopez in New York, so he won't have much fantasy value in standard leagues. However, if he is able to earn around 20 minutes per game in New York, he could potentially emerge as a shot blocking specialist in deep leagues.
Jul 9 - 4:00 PM

Kyle O'Quinn said that he plans to continue shooting corner 3's.

O'Quinn was asked to do that in Orlando last season and plans to continue it now that he's in New York with the Knicks. After attempting four three-pointers over his first two years combined, O'Quinn launched 43 long-range attempts last season. Although he connected at just a 27.9 percent rate, O'Quinn will keep working to expand his range.
Jul 6 - 10:46 AM

Kyle O'Quinn, who just agreed to a four-year deal with the Knicks, expressed his appreciation for his time with the Magic.

"I love everybody there [in Orlando]," he said. "I love my whole team: the GM on down to the guy that cleans the bathrooms. I loved everybody there, and I think it was a mutual feeling. It was the feeling that I loved every day coming to work." O'Quinn also admitted that the long-term deal played a big part in his decision to leave Orlando. The Magic will receive cash and the right to swap 2019 second-round picks in the sign-and-trade deal for O'Quinn.
Jul 6 - 10:11 AM

Kyle O'Quinn and the Knicks have agreed on a four-year, $16 million deal.

He couldn't get playing time with Jacque Vaughn, but maybe he can with Derek Fisher. O'Quinn is a solid defender when he's not fouling everything with a basketball and should be a useful backup to Robin Lopez. That said, a four-year deal seems odd for KOQ.
Jul 4 - 7:06 PM

Kyle O'Quinn was not happy with the way he performed this season.

"Me personally, I don't think I played the way I should have," O'Quinn said. "It was too up-and-down for me." O'Quinn appeared in just 51 games this season after falling out of the rotation under interim head coach James Borrego and battling ankle injuries, but he is still just 25 years old and has plenty of potential. O'Quinn is set to become a restricted free agent this summer, but all signs point to him wearing a Magic uniform for the start of the 2015-16 season. As of right now, O'Quinn won't be a target in standard fantasy drafts.

The Orlando Magic are reportedly planning on offering Kyle O'Quinn a qualifying offer after the 2014-15 season.

O'Quinn is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season, but a qualifying offer would make him a restricted free agent and allow the Magic a chance to match any offer he receives. While O'Quinn has lost playing time under interim head coach James Borrego, he is still just 25 years old and could give the Magic (or other suitors) some depth for their second unit.
Apr 14 - 11:04 AM

Kyle O'Quinn scored 10 points on 3-of-10 FGs and 4-of-4 FTs on Sunday, marking his first double-digit performance since Feb. 2.

He logged 18 minutes and the spike in his playing time is attributable to both Channing Frye (illness) and Dewayne Dedmon (ankle) being out of the lineup. O'Quinn's solid fantasy potential was squandered in a shaky bench role this year, and that's unlikely to change in the season's final weeks.
Mar 22 - 8:52 PM

Kyle O'Quinn did not leave the Magic bench on Sunday.

James Borrego will remain the interim coach through the regular season, which effectively destroys O'Quinn's rest-of-season outlook. He played one minute in Friday's game and it may require a Channing Frye injury to thrust KOQ back onto the standard-league fantasy radar.
Feb 22 - 9:05 PM

Kyle O'Quinn continued to plummet on Friday with just one minute on the floor.

After a somewhat promising start KOQ has hit the ocean floor and is waiver wire fodder.
Feb 21 - 12:27 AM

Kyle O'Quinn scored just one point with seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 17 minutes against the Knicks on Wednesday.

He picked up some extra run with Channing Frye dislocating his finger tonight. O'Quinn has not seen an increase in his output since Jacque Vaughn was let go, averaging 2.4 points, 3.8 boards, 1.4 assists and 0.6 blocks on 29.4 percent from the field in his last five. Unless Frye misses time, he can be left on the wire.
Feb 11 - 10:20 PM

Kyle O'Quinn came off the bench for three points on 1-of-7 shooting in 23 minutes on Sunday, adding five rebounds, three assists and one steal in a disappointing one-point loss to the Bulls.

Four of O'Quinn's shot attempts came from downtown -- he didn't make any of them, but this is still an encouraging development under interim coach James Borrego. Deep-league owners should stash O'Quinn for his across-the-board potential, and all owners should be monitoring his role and production.
Feb 8 - 11:39 PM

Kyle O'Quinn played just 12 minutes against the Lakers on Friday with two points, three rebounds, one assist and one block.

Coach James Borrego usually preaches defense when he's interviewed and did so during the game today, but he didn't use his best rim protector. If you picked up O'Quinn in hopes that he'll turn it around, this is not a good sign. His upside is high enough to give him another chance unless there's something promising on the wire.
