Wolves coach Rick Adelman said that Alexey Shved needs to learn to move without the ball.
"He has been struggling with what to do: Do I finish? Do I pass the ball?," said Adelman. "When you’re not getting the minutes, it’s hard ... He has to get us into things [playing backup point guard while J.J. Barea is out], and he has to have a nice balance to what he’s doing." Barea is questionable for Wednesday's game, but even if he sits there's no reason to gamble on Shved in typical fantasy leagues. Mar 26 - 1:43 PM

Alexey Shved will not play with a mask on Saturday night.

He said he was happy about losing the mask, but it's not likely going to improve his play. Shved has regressed this year and is more trouble than he's worth in fantasy leagues.
Feb 22 - 3:07 PM

Alexey Shved played 19 minutes on Monday with 11 points, one board, one assist, one steal, one block and two 3-pointers on 4-of-10 shooting.

He was hot to start, but fizzled out and missed his last four shots. Shved really can't score and is often out of control while he's attacking the basket, so it's hard to imagine him ever being consistent. He can be left on the wire despite how he could clear the 20-minutes plateau, but there is just no upside here.
Feb 11 - 12:11 AM

Alexey Shved did not score on two attempts in six minutes against the Blazers on Saturday.

His two misses were not even close to going in and he looked bad, which is par for the course. Excluding the restricted area, Shved is shooting 23.0 percent from the field on the year. He could get more minutes, but with an offensive game like that, who cares?
Feb 8 - 11:43 PM

Alexey Shved (nose) played with a mask on Friday, scoring seven points on 2-of-5 shooting with three rebounds and one steal in 14 minutes.

Shved is back into his backup role and has no real fantasy value.
Jan 25 - 4:44 AM

Alexey Shved (nose) will play against the Warriors on Friday.

He broke his nose on Tuesday and should be ready to go. Shved is sporting a larger than average mask on his face, but it probably won't hurt his production. He doesn't shoot the ball well enough to be owned in standard leagues.
Jan 24 - 9:03 PM

Alexey Shved suffered a broken nose on Tuesday in the second quarter and will not return to the game.

Expect to see him wearing a face mask the next time he's on the court, and consider him day-to-day for now. Chase Budinger will see a boost in minutes if he's going to miss time.
Jan 21 - 10:35 PM

Alexey Shved finished Sunday's defeat with 11 points, three rebounds and two steals in 23 minutes off the Wolves' bench, making 4-of-7 FGs with three 3-pointers.

Shved was one of the few bright spots for Minnesota tonight, but he's shooting 28.9 percent from the field this season and seems to have lost all confidence in himself on the court. Chase Budinger's return makes it even more unlikely that Shved will earn a bigger role in the second unit and owners should be skeptical until he consistently plays well.
Jan 12 - 9:34 PM

Alexey Shved said that he hopes to remain with the Timberwolves, adding, "If I want to play more, I've got to work more."

"Basically, he hasn't played well," said coach Rick Adelman, explaining Shved's limited minutes and 24.4 percent shooting. "There's nothing [I] can do about it. I think the one thing you can do is keep talking to the guys who don't play and say 'You have to be ready.'" Shved will earn a guaranteed $3.3 million next season but the Wolves are rumored to be shopping his contract.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported last week that the Wolves have put Derrick Williams and Alexey Shved on the trade block.

Minnesota reportedly wants to trade their under-performing young guys for veterans who can help the team make the playoffs (and pacify Kevin Love), but thus far there have been no takers. It's not at all surprising to hear that they're being shopped around, considering Shved recently picked up his first career DNP-CD and Williams has flitted in and out of the rotation.

Alexey Shved filled in at SG for Kevin Martin (Achilles) on Saturday, finishing with three points on 0-of-4 FGs and 3-of-6 FTs.

He added one rebound, one assist and two steals in 19 minutes. Shooting was a major weakness for Shved as a rookie, when he hit just 37.2 percent of his FGs and 72.0 percent of his FTs. With a middling assist-to-turnover ratio, and Martin expected to be fully healthy for the regular season, there isn't much of interest on Shved's fantasy horizon.

Alexey Shved and Corey Brewer will see a boost in minutes with news that Chase Budinger is out indefinitely due to knee surgery.

Shved will get the minutes Budinger would have spent backing up the shooting guard spot, while Brewer now looks like he'll also be getting extra minutes at both win spots. We don't love either player from a fantasy perspective, but if Brewer starts, he could have a good year.

Alexey Shved, playing a lead role for the Russian national team, averaged the fourth-most turnovers per game (3.4) during EuroBasket.

The good news is that he also averaged 16.4 points and 4.8 assists per game, while shooting 46.5 percent from the field. Shved's rookie year with the Wolves was marred by awful shooting (37.2 percent) and a poor assist-to-turnover ratio, and his outlook hasn't improved now that Kevin Martin is starting at SG.

Alexey Shved averaged 16.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists during the first round of EuroBasket, but Russia was eliminated after compiling a 1-4 record.

Shved committed 3.4 turnovers per game, and he shot just 5-of-16 from 3-point territory, but overall he played well in a featured role. He should enter training camp healthy and well-conditioned, but he's a marginal fantasy option as long as Kevin Martin is healthy.

Flip Saunders said that Alexey Shved and Derrick Williams "have got to produce" for the Wolves this season.

Saunders suggested that Shved is one of the team's valuable bench pieces, along with guys like J.J. Barea and Dante Cunningham. However, he added, "Players determine how much they play. If they play well, they’re going to play. If they don’t, they’re not going to play." Shved shot just 37.2 percent from the field as a rookie, with 3.7 assists and 1.9 turnovers per game.
