Chris Johnson will be waived by the 76ers on Saturday to make room for Robert Covington.
It's not surprising to see the 76ers waive one of their better rotational players, as they have no intention of trying to win in the near future. Luc Mbah a Moute took Johnson's spot in the starting lineup, but is not worth a look in almost all leagues. Johnson can be dropped across the board while owners should take a wait-and-see approach with Covington. Nov 15 - 12:49 PM

Chris Johnson led Philly's reserves on Sunday with 16 points, going 4-of-9 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 at the free throw line.

He was 5-of-12 from the field overall, while chipping in one rebound, one assist, three steals and two blocks. He could easily resume starting for the chaotic Sixers, possibly as soon as Thursday, but Philly's uncertain rotations make him a very risky pickup in standard formats.
Nov 9 - 9:37 PM

Chris Johnson came off the bench against the Heat on Saturday with five points, two rebounds, three steals and one 3-pointer in 21 minutes.

He had his chance in the starting lineup, but nobody can keep Luc Mbah a Moute off the bench, apparently. Johnson can be dropped in just about all leagues.
Nov 1 - 11:55 PM

Chris Johnson will shift to the 76ers bench for Saturday's game vs. Miami.

He shot 1-of-11 from the field on Friday and the Sixers are searching high and low for offensive production, so it's not surprising to see him demoted in favor of Luc Mbah a Moute. The questionable status of K.J. McDaniels (hip) gives Johnson a shot at substantial playing time despite his bench role.
Nov 1 - 5:31 PM

Chris Johnson hit just 1-of-11 shots for four points on Friday against the Bucks, but did manage to chip in with eight rebounds, one block and a 3-point bucket in his 29 minutes.

Johnson's shooting is bound to fluctuate given his role and how bad the Sixers are, so the key for owners to watch out for are his minutes and starting status -- both of which look to be in the right place for now. Whether or not those minutes translate into standard league value is questionable, but he's worth a look for now.
Nov 1 - 12:36 AM

Chris Johnson started at shooting guard and hit 5-of-10 shots and a 3-pointer for 12 points on Wednesday.

He'll return to obscurity once Michael Carter-Williams is healthy, but until that happens, he could be a cheap source of stats in both weekly and daily leagues.
Oct 29 - 10:52 PM

Chris Johnson will start at shooting guard for the Sixers on Wednesday.

He'll join Tony Wroten, Hollis Thompson, Nerlens Noel and Henry Sims against another laughable starting five of Indiana. Johnson did have some nice stretches with the Celtics last season and the team does need all the help on the wing they can get, so he's worth watching in deep leagues. Those who added K.J. McDaniels should not be worried as he will still see minutes off the bench in the second unit.
Oct 29 - 5:39 PM

Chris Johnson got his chance in the starting lineup for the 76ers, making 5-of-13 from the field for 15 points with four rebounds, two assists and two 3-pointers in 31 minutes.

He barely played coming into this game with 14 or less minutes, but he got his chance tonight. Johnson was somewhat effective on a more talented Celtics team last season, so he could get it going. Plus, he has some range and steals the ball a bit. Of course, this development should not have your attention in anything but a very deep league.
Oct 23 - 11:01 PM

Chris Johnson started against the Pistons on Thursday.

He hasn't started or played more than 14 minutes in any preseason action yet, so this is interesting. Elliot Williams was terrific, but has slowed down a bit lately. We'll keep an eye on this game. Of course, this development is only a concern to deep leagues.
Oct 23 - 7:23 PM

The 76ers claimed swingman Chris Johnson off waivers on Sunday.

Johnson was waived by the Celtics on Thursday, but Philly quickly added his fully unguaranteed contract to their training camp roster. The Sixers' lineup is tumultuous enough that Johnson could stick around for opening night, but he's not worth fantasy owners' attention.
Sep 28 - 5:26 PM

Celtics waive G/F Chris Johnson.

He came off the bench for all of his 40 games with the Celtics in 2013-14. Johnson had his best showing in January, averaging 9.7 points, 3.2 boards, 1.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.8 triples in the month. Chances are some team will sign him for training camp.

Chris Johnson's agent is "cautiously optimistic" that the Celtics will guarantee his contract and keep him on their 15-man regular season roster.

A recent report suggested that Johnson will likely be waived before the season, but according to his agent Mark Cornstein, "[Johnson] has a great relationship with the Celtics organization and the coaching staff ... everything we have heard thus far as been positive." Johnson's hustle and defensive energy should be enough to earn him a minimum-salary deal in Boston or another NBA city.

Aug 5 - 6:27 PM

Chris Johnson is likely to be waived before the season.

His contract isn't guaranteed and the Celtics currently are sitting at 18 players. Johnson averaged just 6.3 points per game and shot 39.7 percent from the field last season, but his minutes were largely due to all the injuries on the Celtics.
Aug 4 - 9:27 AM

Chris Johnson hit 6-of-8 shots and two 3-pointers for 14 points, three rebounds and two steals in Tuesday's loss to the Pacers.

Jerryd Bayless was terrible tonight, so Johnson got some extra minutes at shooting guard, playing 28 on the night. This was his first double-digit scoring night since Feb. 9 and with Avery Bradley due back on Friday, we're not expecting CJ to remain relevant going forward.
Mar 11 - 10:01 PM

The Celtics will reportedly sign Chris Johnson for the remainder of the 2013-14 season.

Johnson's second 10-day contract expired on Thursday, so it's great news for him that the luxury tax-strapped Celtics decided they could afford to keep the swingman. Johnson's fantasy value is still a bit limited as he's only been playing 21.6 minutes per game in his eight games with Boston, but he can provide value in deeper leagues with his 1.5 3-pointers per game.
