The Heat are reportedly "unsure" whether they'll be able to retain free agent C Willie Reed this summer.
Reed declined his $1.6 million player option and it was an easy choice, but the market will dictate whether Miami can afford his new salary. They reportedly scheduled "at least five pre-draft workouts [for] centers," none of whom are projected lottery picks -- the Heat would most likely trade down or buy second-round picks to bolster their center rotation. Miami's moves on draft day could telegraph how confident they are about keeping Reed as Hassan Whiteside's backup. Jun 18 - 8:43 PM

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed will decline his player option and become an unrestricted free agent.

It's an easy call for Reed at just $1.5 million. Reed is one of a handful of Heat players to have a breakout year for coach Erik Spoelstra. He asserted himself as a very solid NBA backup five man and he's performed in his five starts last year, averaging 14.8 points, 8.2 boards and 1.6 blocks. Reed has said he'd like to stay with the Heat and Miami should have some cap space, so they're the favorite to bring him back.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed reiterated his desire to remain with the Heat next season.

"I mean you have an emotional attachment to these guys. This is a special team. We made history this year," Reed said. "Of course I want to be here. But we will see what happens when it comes to time to be able to talk and discuss things like that." Reed has until June 29 to decide on his $1.6 million player option, but it's an easy decision for him to opt out. Reed would be stuck behind Hassan Whiteside if he stays with the Heat, so a move away from Miami would be good news for his fantasy value. The 27-year-old big man should be poised for a career year after averaging 5.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 14.5 minutes per game.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed said that he would prefer to re-sign with the Heat this summer.

He is fully expected to turn down his $1.6 million player option in order to test free agency. "We all want to be a part of something special," Reed said. "I love this team, I love these guys in the locker room. Being here would be great. Hopefully something works out." The Heat will prioritize re-signing Dion Waiters and James Johnson first, but Reed's asking price will determine whether or not he stays -- the Heat will have about $38 million in cap space once they clear Chris Bosh's contract off the books. Reed averaged 5.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 14.5 minutes per game and is expected to focus on improving his body and footwork this offseason.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed was noncommittal when asked about his $1.5 million player option for the 2017-18 season.

To be clear, he's fully expected to opt out and test the open market. Reed had a productive season as Hassan Whiteside's primary backup, averaging 5.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 14.5 minutes per game. For him to help most fantasy owners, he will likely have to leave Miami.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed gave Miami 15 strong minutes off the bench on Wednesday, going 8-of-9 from the field for 16 points and six rebounds (three offensive).

Reed came up big in a do-or-die game for the Heat, which speaks volumes about coach Erik Spoelstra's trust in him. With the amount of money being handed out in new contracts this summer, Reed will assuredly decline his $1.6 million player option to test the market.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed is expected to opt out of his contract after the season and become a free agent this summer.

Reed has a player option of $1.5 million for the 2017-18 season. Considering how well Reed has played in limited minutes, and the dearth of quality big men in the NBA, he will definitely make more than that on the open market. Reed started five games this season and averaged 14.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in those five starts.
Apr 8 - 9:47 AM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed finished with seven points and six rebounds in Sunday's 112-108 win against the Celtics.

Reed hit all three of his field goal attempts over 18 minutes off the bench. That's about the most you can expect from Reed, however, as he won't see much more playing time as long as Hassan Whiteside is healthy and doing his thing.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed came off the bench and played 17 minutes on Tuesday, finishing with 12 points and seven rebounds on 4-of-5 shooting.

Hassan Whiteside suffered a hand laceration that required stitches tonight and if he's going to miss Thursday's game, Reed could be thrust into the starting lineup and heavy minutes. He's more of a DFS option if that happens, but he might also be worth a one-game flier in a daily league if Whiteside is out.
Mar 21 - 11:15 PM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed is available for Friday against the Wolves.

The Heat have a fairly healthy roster now and Hassan Whiteside is playing lights out, so Reed won't play much.
Mar 17 - 6:23 PM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed was not at Thursday's practice for personal reasons.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said he's fully expected to be back for Friday's game vs. the Wolves, so there's nothing to see here. Reed doesn't have much value while Hassan Whiteside is healthy.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed (ankle) played eight minutes with two points, four rebounds, one block and three turnovers against the Magic on Friday.

After what looked like a bad injury on Saturday, he only needed to miss two games. Hassan Whiteside played well and the Heat still went with a small-ball five at times during this game, so they didn't need to play Reed too much in this game. With the Heat now in the playoff mix, the stash appeal on Reed is down.
Mar 3 - 9:19 PM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed (ankle) is likely going to play against the Magic on Friday.

He said he is not 100 percent and is not expected to play his usual minutes. Miami doesn't have a backup center tonight, so maybe he only gets burn if Hassan Whiteside is in foul trouble. If he's OK, that takes a few minutes away from James Johnson and Okaro White.
Mar 3 - 5:45 PM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed (ankle) participated in the team's shootaround on Monday morning.

Reed has missed two straight games but appears to be progressing in the right direction. Check back later this afternoon for an update on his status.
Mar 3 - 12:33 PM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed (ankle) is questionable for Friday's game vs. the Magic.

Reed was limited to non-contact work at Thursday's practice, and while head coach Erik Spoelstra said on Wednesday that he's making progress, he's probably a little closer to doubtful. If Reed is out again, Okaro White could pick up some minutes behind Hassan Whiteside (illness).
