Willie Reed (bruised sternum) is available to play Tuesday vs. the Rockets.
Outside of the four games Reed started when Hassan Whiteside was sidelined, Reed is averaging 11.9 minutes as a reserve in the 28 games he has played off the Miami bench this season. Reed's return could cut into James Johnson's minutes, as Miami wouldn't need JJ to backup Whiteside. Jan 17 - 11:50 AM

Willie Reed (bruised sternum) is probable for Tuesday's game vs. the Rockets.

Reed only plays minutes in the teens while Hassan Whiteside is healthy, but this does have a couple fantast implications. Luke Babbitt's minutes will take a hit with Reed back in the rotation and James Johnson won't have to spend a lot of time as the backup center. Reed is just a handcuff for Whiteside's owners in deeper leagues.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed (bruised sternum) was a limited participant during Sunday's practice.

"During the non-contact part, there was some soreness," Reed said. "All in all, I’m fine. We’re just going to see how it feels when you take a blow to it. That’s the biggest key." With Reed on the sidelines, James Johnson has been forced into heavy minutes, earning some run at the five-spot in small ball lineups when Hassan Whiteside goes to the bench. Reed isn't worth a roster spot anywhere.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed (bruised sternum) will not play in Friday's game against the Bucks.

Reed is averaging 11.9 minutes in non-starts this season, backing up Hassan Whiteside. The Heat don't have another true center on the roster. With Reed not available on Friday, Udonis Haslem may see more minutes behind Whiteside. The more intriguing outcome, from a fantasy perspective, would be Miami playing small-ball, with James Johnson seeing additional minutes.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed (bruised sternum) is questionable for Friday's game against the Bucks.

He did not practice and was in sweats for the session on Thursday. Reed has been in the rotation as a straight backup to Hassan Whiteside, but likely won't play more than 15 minutes most nights. If he's out, Udonis Haslem could be next man up or the Heat could use James Johnson at the five more.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed played just 11 minutes off the bench on Tuesday, going 1-of-4 with four points, four rebounds and a block.

He was pretty fun to own while Hassan Whiteside missed four games with an eye injury, but the party is over, as Whiteside has been back for two games and had 28 points and 20 rebounds tonight. Feel free to handcuff Reed if you own Whiteside, but he should generally be dropped for a hot free agent now that Whiteside is back and killing it. But if Whiteside gets traded, Reed could suddenly have a lot of value again.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed returned to the bench on Sunday, going 2-of-6 from the field on his way to four points, 10 rebounds, one steal, one block and one turnover in 17 minutes.

Hassan Whiteside (eye) logged 31 minutes as a starter, so it's going to be tough for Reed to be much of a factor in fantasy hoops operating as Whiteside's backup. You could justify handcuffing him to Whiteside, but Reed isn't worth owning in most scenarios while Hassan is healthy.
Jan 8 - 6:44 PM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed will come off the bench on Sunday vs. the Clippers.

Hassan Whiteside (eye) will be returning from a four-game absence, but Reed won't be completely irrelevant because the Heat are going to ease him back into action. Reed averaged 13.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.0 blocks in four starts, so Whiteside's owners in deeper leagues should consider owning him as a handcuff.

Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Coach Eric Spoelstra was non-committal when asked about who he would start at center on Sunday vs. the Clippers.

Willie Reed (22 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and three blocks in 32 minutes) played extremely well on Friday in place of Hassan Whiteside (eye). However, Whiteside is hopeful he will be healthy enough to return to action on Sunday. "There's been so many moving parts with this team, everything is open," Spo said. Still, if Whiteside is able to play, it is safe to assume he'll draw the start.
Jan 7 - 11:56 AM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed scored 22 points (10-of-15 FGs, 2-of-5 FTs) with 12 rebounds, two assists and three blocks in 32 minutes against the Lakers on Friday.

He averaged 10.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.7 blocks and 0.7 steals in his three previous starts, but his two monster games came against the Suns and Lakers and he posted two duds against the Kings and Pistons. Hassan Whiteside (eye) is traveling with the Heat again and could return as soon as Sunday's game vs. the Clippers, so Reed is just a short-term option until Whiteside is cleared. With that said, Reed could emerge down the stretch with the Heat clearly tanking.
Jan 7 - 1:05 AM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed earned another start on Wednesday in place of Hassan Whiteside (eye), finishing with six points on 3-of-6 shooting, three boards, two blocks and one steal in 23 minutes.

Reed erupted for 22 points, 18 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal on Tuesday, while making 11-of-16 shots. James Johnson missed that game with an illness but he was back tonight, and Reed also got into early foul trouble in a tough matchup vs. DeMarcus Cousins. Whiteside is day-to-day, which makes Reed a fantasy afterthought for now, but his recent productivity is worth remembering.
Jan 5 - 2:12 AM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed said he's beginning to understand the game more and feels he's improving every single day.

"I think the biggest key for me in improving is with my body," Reed said. "Getting stronger in the lower body and being able to be quicker, those type of things. But I think mentally, I think I’m learning the game better every single day. The more I play, the more I’ll learn. Offensively, I think I’m getting better every single day." Reed went off for 22 points and 18 boards on Tuesday with Hassan Whiteside (eye) on the sidelines, and he could be earning another start tonight against the Kings, so he's a reasonable guy to take a flier on while Whiteside is on the shelf.
Jan 4 - 10:28 AM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed started again for Hassan Whiteside on Tuesday and exploded for a career-high 22 points, a career-high 18 rebounds, a steal and two blocks while hitting 11-of-16 shots in a loss to the Suns.

Wow. Reed started on Sunday too, but only had four points and two rebounds, so don't feel too bad if you weren't in on him tonight. Whiteside (eye) is not traveling with the team and we still don't really have a good idea of how serious his injury is, but there's a chance he could return to action at any time. But as long as he's out, Reed looks like an interesting DFS flier for now. And if you want to take a streaming flier on him in season-long leagues it also makes sense, but he should return to obscurity as soon as Whiteside is back in action.
Jan 3 - 11:44 PM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed started at center for the Heat on Sunday but had only four points, two rebounds, two assists and one block in 18 minutes.

Hassan Whiteside was out of commission after getting poked in the eye on Friday -- he had an MRI and has increased sensitivity to light, so Reed might draw another start against the Suns on Tuesday. That would be a much easier matchup than tonight's showdown vs. Andre Drummond, so Reed is still on the map as a streaming or DFS play if Whiteside can't suit up.
Jan 1 - 9:53 PM
Willie Reed - F/C - Heat

Willie Reed will move into the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Pistons, with Hassan Whiteside (eye) unavailable.

Reed will draw the tall task of defending Andre Drummond in this one, and if he can manage to stay out of foul trouble, he could have a nice game with essentially zero depth behind him. Udonis Haslem may also pick up limited minutes off the bench, and if Reed doesn't work out against Drummond, James Johnson may get the call. Reed isn't much more than a DFS punt play tonight.
