Unrestricted free agent LaMarcus Aldridge was "floored in a good way" with the Rockets' analytics.
A lot of folks don't quite understand what analytics exactly mean and perhaps no person is more associated with analytics to help build a team than general manager Daryl Morey. The Rockets are going to have to move some pieces around -- Terrence Jones for sure -- in order to hand LMA. Jul 1 - 5:04 PM

The Rockets have made the 18th pick in the draft available for a trade.

Their primary goal tonight is to shed salary, so expect this pick to be packaged with other players to drop their cap number. Terrence Jones figures to be at the top of the list with the Rockets already having Donatas Motiejunas and Clint Capela on the roster.

Kevin McHale said his team is "going to go out and fight" in Game 4 on Monday.

"I just got on their ass yesterday. If you’re going to feel sorry for yourself, don’t show up," McHale said. "You got to come out swinging. I can’t say a lot about it." The Rockets are going to have to do a lot of things right to get a win. Most importantly, they need to get shots at the rim and remember not to leave Stephen Curry open. Both are easier said than done.

The Rockets are not likely to rest players down the stretch this season.

This is fantastic news for owners of James Harden, Terrence Jones or any other Rocket. The team is tied for the No. 3 seed with the Blazers and are just 1.5 games behind the Grizzlies, so they have a lot of incentive to go for it.

Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale signed a three-year contract extension on Wednesday believed to be around $13 million.

The Rockets are currently sitting at fourth place in the loaded Western Conference, but given how many injuries that the Rockets have dealt with McHale has done a fantastic job. Houston may also be in the news again shortly if they are able to snag Josh Smith when he clears waivers Wednesday evening. Stay tuned.

The Rockets are expected to use the remaining preseason games as a primer for the regular season, according to coach Kevin McHale.

There are a lot of unclear position battles in Houston. Tarik Black looks to be the backup center, Kosta Papanikolaou saw some extended run as a stretch four on Sunday and could get in the rotation, Ish Smith has been working as a backup point guard and the second-unit wings are a bit of a toss up.

The Houston Rockets reportedly have a backup plan if they don't land Chris Bosh.

The main goal is to land Bosh and retain restricted free agent Chandler Parsons, but the team reportedly has other options in case they lose out on Bosh. The team has been in talks with the agents for Trevor Ariza, Luol Deng, and Paul Pierce and would likely attempt to use either their $5.3 million mid-level exception or the space created if they decline to match Parson's offer sheet with the Dallas Mavericks. There are more than a few moving pieces floating around here, but it seems like the Rockets have a Plan A, B, and C.

The Rockets have fired assistant coach Dean Cooper.

Cooper will take the fall for the Rockets early exit from the playoffs and his defensive schemes will be blamed. Kevin McHale kept his job, so Cooper looks like a sacrificial lamb here.

The Rockets will reportedly pick up coach Kevin McHale's option for the 2014-15 season.

Houston lost in the first round to the Blazers and it may take them a while to get over their devastating Game 6 defeat, but their early exit won't cost McHale his job. McHale has a 172-152 record during five seasons as an NBA head coach.

The Rockets have not given any overt signs that they want to part ways with head coach Kevin McHale, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

The Rockets lost their first-round series in six games, including three overtimes, falling beneath a barrage of mid-range jumpers from LaMarcus Aldridge. The Rockets have not formally picked up McHale's 2014-15 option, which leaves the door open for a coaching change, but a source close to the team suggested to ESPN that "McHale’s return next season remains the most likely scenario."

The Houston Rockets' support for coach Kevin McHale remains strong within the organization, according to

The Rockets just lost both of their games at home and will travel to Portland on Friday for Game 3. McHale has been second-guessed quite a bit due to LaMarcus Aldridge going bonkers in the two Houston losses, which explains why this story is even news. If the Rockets get swept, chances are this issue will be revisited.

Kevin McHale wasn't with the Rockets on Tuesday for personal reasons.

We don't have any more information about his absence, but assistant Kelvin Sampson will step in to coach the team if McHale hasn't returned by Thursday's game.

Head coach Kevin McHale said he expects the Rockets to still run at a fast pace.

"I think we’re going to play basically the same style," McHale said. "We have to get better defensively, and with Dwight we have to have more of an emphasis on trying to get the ball in the post. Through Dwight running and Dwight doing different things, I think we can do that without really having to change our identity." The Rockets led the NBA in pace last season, but Dwight could slow them down a bit. Howard's presence figures to be more of a help than a hindrance to the values of James Harden and Chandler Parsons.

Kevin McHale is believed to be "90 percent" likely to return as the Rockets' head coach next season.

"It's been a long year for me personally in a lot of ways," said McHale, who returned to the sidelines after the tragic death of his daughter Sasha in November. If McHale reverses course and steps away this summer, the Rockets are rumored to have interest in Stan Van Gundy.
