If Mike D'Antoni is hired as the head coach of the Rockets, Lionel Hollins could join his staff as an assistant coach, according to sources of Calvin Watkins.
There have been reports that if D'Antoni gets the gig, Houston will push him to hire a defensive minded coach to join his staff, although there's been no indication from Hollins' side if he's at all interested in being an assistant coach. Hollins also reportedly was spotted having dinner with Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace on Monday, which hints that he may be in the running for the Memphis head coaching gig. May 19 - 5:40 PM

Lionel Hollins could be an option for the Grizzlies vacant head coach position.

The Grizzlies have a void behind their bench after parting way with Dave Joerger and Hollins was seen having dinner with Memphis general manager Chris Wallace on Monday. We'll keep an eye on the situation, but there could be something to this as Hollins coached the team from 2009-2013.

The Nets have fired head coach Lionel Hollins and general manager Billy King will step down.

"After careful consideration, I've concluded that it's time for a fresh start and a new vision for the direction of this team," Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov said. "By making this decision now, it enables our organization to use the rest of the season to diligently evaluate candidates with proven track records." It's hard to blame Hollins due to the lack of talent on the roster, but it was obvious that King had to go after making some brutal trades that severely hurt the Nets. Assistant coach Tony Brown will serve as the interim head coach for the time being. With this announcement, the Nets could be very busy at the trade deadline.

Billy King refuted recent rumors that Lionel Hollins is a candidate to be fired.

"Lionel and I are working hard every day. We’re discussing possibilities, things we can do on the court, off the court," said King. "I’ve talked to ownership and right now, Lionel is our coach and we’re working to try to turn this around." It appears Lionel's status as head coach of the Nets is safe, for now.

Lionell Hollins said that he's settled on a starting five, but he will not reveal his lineup prior to opening night.

"With all the injuries that have taken place, we’re pretty settled with our starting lineup," Hollins said. "Now, I’m not going to tell you who. On the 28th when we step out on the court that night, you’ll definitely see. I don’t see the big deal. Tell me, why is it such a big deal?" Jarrett Jack, Joe Johnson, Thaddeus Young and Brook Lopez are all locks to start, and while Bojan Bogdanovic seems to have the edge to start at the two-spot, Wayne Ellington isn't yet out of the running. Lopez and Young offer the most upside out of Brooklyn's starters.

Former Net Deron Williams and coach Lionel Hollins had an "altercation" following a loss to the Grizzlies on Feb. 10.

This is likely part of the reason Kidd is no longer with the team. Hollins has been more of a players' coach in his career, but maybe the loss to his former team rubbed him the wrong way to escalate the situation. Whatever the case, the two won't be on the same team again.

Lionel Hollins is not interested in installing any of the components of Jason Kidd's system.

"I wasn’t trying to watch what they did because it’s really not the same team and what I want to do is different from what they did in the past," Hollins said. "So, it wasn’t like I was trying to figure out what they did [last season]. And I had a vision of what this team could look like with the personnel we have." During his time in Memphis, Hollins ran a slowed-down, half-court offense that was orchestrated through the team's big men. So it's logical to assume he will run a similar system in Brooklyn that will feature a lot of Brook Lopez.

Lionel Hollins stated that he has not yet determined who will start this upcoming season.

"Who starts will develop from practice, preseason and then the coaching staff’s decision on how we best fit," said Hollins. Looking at the Nets depth chart, it would seem the largest uncertainty with who will start is at the power forward position. Kevin Garnett has started every game of his career since his rookie season, but the aging veteran also posted career-lows across the board during his 2013-14 campaign. Mason Plumlee has stated that he'd like to play alongside Brook Lopez at the power forward spot, and we'll be watching the position battle closely over training camp and preseason. However, Plumlee figures to be more of a deep league play, while Garnett shouldn't be targeted in any leagues.

The Nets have named Paul Westphal, John Welch, Tony Brown, Joe Wolf and Jay Humphries as their assistant coaches.

Westphal headlines the group with over 20 years of experience and a 318-279 record as a head coach. The Nets aren't nearly as old as they were last year, but coach Lionel Hollins tends to run a slower pace than most coaches.

The Nets are finalizing an agreement to add Paul Westphal as an assistant to coach Lionel Hollins.

Well, that didn't take long. The Nets just lost assistant Joe Prunty earlier today to the Bucks, so they added a very high-profile guy in Westphal. He is a former coach for the Suns, Sonics and Kings. The Nets will also keep assistant John Welch.

The Nets have reached an agreement with Lionel Hollins to become the team's new head coach on a four-year, $18 million deal.

The Nets didn't waste any time here. The Jason Kidd drama unfolded on Saturday and it took just a few days to hire Hollins. He was always the man for the job and should be a nice fit for the Nets. Hollins' Grizzlies ran a very slow pace in Memphis, which figures to be a style he'll take with him to Brooklyn. He's one of the best coaches in the league and this whole Kidd issue may be a blessing in disguise.

The Nets are in the "final stages" of contract talks with coach Lionel Hollins, with the multi-year deal believed to be worth more than $4 million annually.

Hollins quickly emerged as Brooklyn's preferred candidate once Jason Kidd left for Milwaukee. He'd give the Nets a veteran coach with 22 years' experience, who led his team to three straight playoff appearances before departing Memphis in 2013, and it's a solid hiring for a franchise in need of some stability.

General manager Billy King said he met with Lionel Hollins on Monday and plans to meet with him on Tuesday.

The Nets really want to get a coach as soon as they can and Hollins appears to be their guy. The Kidd drama worked out for both parties because the Nets are still lucky to have a coach of Hollins' stature available while the Nets head-coaching gig is one of the best in the league.

Lionel Hollins has a meeting set with Brooklyn management, league sources tell Yahoo! Sports.

The two sides are expected to meet within the next 24-48 hours, but if there was an opposite to Jason Kidd, Lionel Hollins would be that guy. Hollins boasts an impressive win percentage of .622, however, his slowed-down, half-court offense isn't exactly a fantasy friendly game.

Lionel Hollins remains a strong candidate for the Nets' head-coaching vacancy.

This didnt take long and it makes sense. Hollins is a pro as a coach and he's done a great job in Memphis while not getting tons of headlines. If he does go to the Nets, chances are the team will slow down their tempo and run a bit of a shorter rotation. In other words, Hollins' arrival would make the Nets a bit less fantasy friendly.
