Lionel Hollins is not interested in installing any of the components of Jason Kidd's system.
"I wasn’t trying to watch what they did because it’s really not the same team and what I want to do is different from what they did in the past," Hollins said. "So, it wasn’t like I was trying to figure out what they did [last season]. And I had a vision of what this team could look like with the personnel we have." During his time in Memphis, Hollins ran a slowed-down, half-court offense that was orchestrated through the team's big men. So it's logical to assume he will run a similar system in Brooklyn that will feature a lot of Brook Lopez. Sep 28 - 10:33 AM

Lionel Hollins stated that he has not yet determined who will start this upcoming season.

"Who starts will develop from practice, preseason and then the coaching staff’s decision on how we best fit," said Hollins. Looking at the Nets depth chart, it would seem the largest uncertainty with who will start is at the power forward position. Kevin Garnett has started every game of his career since his rookie season, but the aging veteran also posted career-lows across the board during his 2013-14 campaign. Mason Plumlee has stated that he'd like to play alongside Brook Lopez at the power forward spot, and we'll be watching the position battle closely over training camp and preseason. However, Plumlee figures to be more of a deep league play, while Garnett shouldn't be targeted in any leagues.

The Nets have named Paul Westphal, John Welch, Tony Brown, Joe Wolf and Jay Humphries as their assistant coaches.

Westphal headlines the group with over 20 years of experience and a 318-279 record as a head coach. The Nets aren't nearly as old as they were last year, but coach Lionel Hollins tends to run a slower pace than most coaches.

The Nets are finalizing an agreement to add Paul Westphal as an assistant to coach Lionel Hollins.

Well, that didn't take long. The Nets just lost assistant Joe Prunty earlier today to the Bucks, so they added a very high-profile guy in Westphal. He is a former coach for the Suns, Sonics and Kings. The Nets will also keep assistant John Welch.
Jul 9 - 4:59 PM

The Nets have reached an agreement with Lionel Hollins to become the team's new head coach on a four-year, $18 million deal.

The Nets didn't waste any time here. The Jason Kidd drama unfolded on Saturday and it took just a few days to hire Hollins. He was always the man for the job and should be a nice fit for the Nets. Hollins' Grizzlies ran a very slow pace in Memphis, which figures to be a style he'll take with him to Brooklyn. He's one of the best coaches in the league and this whole Kidd issue may be a blessing in disguise.
Jul 2 - 2:57 PM

The Nets are in the "final stages" of contract talks with coach Lionel Hollins, with the multi-year deal believed to be worth more than $4 million annually.

Hollins quickly emerged as Brooklyn's preferred candidate once Jason Kidd left for Milwaukee. He'd give the Nets a veteran coach with 22 years' experience, who led his team to three straight playoff appearances before departing Memphis in 2013, and it's a solid hiring for a franchise in need of some stability.
Jul 2 - 9:45 AM

General manager Billy King said he met with Lionel Hollins on Monday and plans to meet with him on Tuesday.

The Nets really want to get a coach as soon as they can and Hollins appears to be their guy. The Kidd drama worked out for both parties because the Nets are still lucky to have a coach of Hollins' stature available while the Nets head-coaching gig is one of the best in the league.
Jul 1 - 11:26 AM

Lionel Hollins has a meeting set with Brooklyn management, league sources tell Yahoo! Sports.

The two sides are expected to meet within the next 24-48 hours, but if there was an opposite to Jason Kidd, Lionel Hollins would be that guy. Hollins boasts an impressive win percentage of .622, however, his slowed-down, half-court offense isn't exactly a fantasy friendly game.
Jun 30 - 5:57 PM

Lionel Hollins remains a strong candidate for the Nets' head-coaching vacancy.

This didnt take long and it makes sense. Hollins is a pro as a coach and he's done a great job in Memphis while not getting tons of headlines. If he does go to the Nets, chances are the team will slow down their tempo and run a bit of a shorter rotation. In other words, Hollins' arrival would make the Nets a bit less fantasy friendly.
Jun 30 - 11:16 AM

The Rockets are reportedly making a "hard push" to convince Lionel Hollins to join Kevin McHale's coaching staff as an assistant.

Hollins has been waiting for another head coaching opportunity to open up and he may not accept an offer from the Rockets until the Lakers and Cavaliers fill their vacant positions. In his last stint as a head coach with the Grizzlies from 2010-2013, Hollins compiled a combined 143-87 record for an impressive .622 win percentage.

Jun 17 - 2:28 PM

Lionel Hollins is expected to continue his meeting with the Cavs on Monday.

He had a dinner meeting on Sunday after it was originally scheduled for Saturday. Hollins is one of the more qualified coaching candidates out there and it's certainly possible he just took a year off last season. Tyronn Lue is also in the mix for Cleveland's head-coaching job.
Jun 2 - 9:08 AM

Lionel Hollins is set to interview for the vacant Cavaliers job on Sunday.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, Hollins' interview was pushed back a day. After interviewing Adrian Griffin of the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday and Tyronn Lue of the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday, Cleveland interviewed Alvin Gentry on Friday. It remains to be seen whether or not Hollins is the last coach on the Cavaliers' list of interviewees.
May 31 - 9:44 AM

Lionel Hollins is set to interview with the Cavaliers about their head coaching vacancy on Saturday.

Hollins has been connected to multiple head coaching vacancies, including the Lakers, Timberwolves, and Jazz. The Cavs have a franchise point guard in Kyrie Irving, as well as the number one overall pick in the upcoming draft, making it an intriguing coaching destination.
May 28 - 4:31 PM

Lionel Hollins has emerged as a potential candidate for the Lakers current head coaching vacancy, and he will interview with management later in the week.

Hollins is the first name to come up that doesn't have ties with the Lakers organization, but he makes for an intriguing candidate. Hollins is a no-nonsense, defensive minded coach that could potentially pair nicely with Kobe Bryant. In his most recent stint with Memphis, Hollins took his team to the playoffs three consecutive years, which included a trip to the Western Conference finals. Hollins is a proven coach, but the Lakers will need to make some major changes to their roster if they hope to compete for a championship (or make the playoffs) in the near future.
May 25 - 1:37 PM

Lionel Hollins is expected to meet with the Warriors in the next few days for their head-coaching vacancy.

The Warriors didnt' get Stan Van Gundy and they're unlikely to land Steve Kerr, so it would appear Hollins is next on their wish list. On paper, it doesn't seem like a great fit due to how Hollins' teams in Memphis didn't live on the three-ball while the 2013-14 Warriors ranked second the NBA for 3-pointers.
