Tom Thibodeau has signed a contract to become the Timberwolves head coach and President of Basketball Operations.
Thibodeau got what he wanted with a lot of player personnel control a la Stan Van Gundy. Thibodeau is known for his defense and also playing his stars heavier minutes with tighter rotations. The Wolves were 27th in defensive rating last season, so they will almost certainly be increasing in that regard. Karl-Anthony Towns looks like he'll be a superstar in the Thibodeau system. Minnesota has reportedly engaged in serious talks with Tom Thibodeau to install him as the next President of Basketball Operations and head coach of the Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves will also reportedly hire current Spurs assistant GM Scott Layden as their new general manager, and the deal with Thibodeau will reportedly be a five-year pact. Given Thibodeau's history of granting his starters all the minutes they can handle, the Thibodeau hiring is excellent news for Karl-Anthony Towns, who should see no less than 36 minutes a night. KAT is going to be a first-round selection in next year's fantasy drafts.

Tom Thibodeau is comfortable with Minnesota after working there as an assistant during the team's first two seasons.

Thibodeau met with the Timberwolves about their vacant head coach position and is reportedly seeking full control over player personnel and hirings. While there are other teams interested in Thibodeau, it sounds like we could see a new regime in Minnesota soon.

Tom Thibodeau is looking for full control of the Wolves.

He wants to have final say on player personnel and hirings. The Wolves are one of the most attractive coaching jobs with all their talent and another high lottery pick coming in June. The Wolves offense was better than their defense, so it would be a good fit.

The Knicks are reportedly not interested in Tom Thibodeau as their next head coach.

If the Knicks decide not to extend interim head coach Kurt Rambis, Thibodeau is not expected to be on their short list. While Thibodeau is respected in NBA circles, Knicks president Phil Jackson reportedly isn't impressed with the former Bulls coach and will look to other options who are more familiar with the triangle offense.

The Sacramento Kings have brought Tom Thibodeau in as a defensive consultant.

Thibodeau has consulted with several teams this season and will be with the Kings through Saturday, at the request of head coach George Karl. "I think he's intrigued by our offense and we're probably intrigued by his defense," Karl said. While it's nice to see Thibodeau back in the league in some capacity, there isn't any fantasy fallout associated with this news.

The Nets have reportedly reached out to Tom Thibodeau for their head coach position.

In related news, the Nets are also seriously considering hiring Bryan Colangelo as their general manager. It's unclear if Thibodeau would want to coach the Nets, but it should be noted that other high-profile names such as John Calipari and Mark Jackson have been mentioned as well.

Tom Thibodeau may be a candidate to take over as the head coach of the Rockets with Kevin McHale no longer at the helm.

For now, the job will be interim head coach J.B. Bickerstaff's to lose, but Thibodeau will more than likely be considered given that he has ties to James Harden as a coach for Team USA. Jeff Van Gundy has also been mentioned as a possible replacement.

Tom Thibodeau, who is still a coach with USA Basketball, said that he is "hopeful" that he'll be hired again as an NBA coach.

Thibodeau added that he wants to make sure his next coaching stint is "the right situation" for him, but with all the head coaching positions around the league currently filled, it looks like Thibs will be on at least a one-year hiatus from the NBA.

Tom Thibodeau said that he has no regrets about his time with the Bulls.

"Obviously, there were some issues, and I don't want to get into all that," Thibodeau said. "I'm very proud of what the team did. ... I think any time when you have a pro franchise, there's going to be some carping that goes on along the way." It's been well documented that Thibodeau and the Bulls' front office didn't work too well together, and both sides appear eager to move on. The Nuggets are currently the only NBA team without a head coach, but Thibodeau doesn't appear to be in the mix there.

The Timberwolves are a team Tom Thibodeau "always has had special feelings for," a source told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Thibodeau began his NBA coaching career as an assistant with Minnesota, so that's the root of the connection. Regardless, this seems like more speculation than reporting, and nobody is really clear on what Thibodeau plans to do next. He won't be in any kind of rush with the Bulls still on the hook for $9 million over the next two seasons, and Thibs has the luxury of waiting out an ideal opportunity before jumping back in the pool.

Contrary to a previous report, Tom Thibodeau is still interested in coaching the Pelicans and there is mutual interest between the two sides.

Thibodeau was reportedly worried that Anthony Davis would leave the Pelicans, but it's unclear how much truth there is to that statement. Alvin Gentry is still in the mix and NOLA.com's John Reid called him the frontrunner on Friday, and Jeff Van Gundy's name continues to be tossed around. This story is far from over, so we should have plenty of updates in the coming days.

Tom Thibodeau is reportedly not interested in coaching the Pelicans, Nuggets or Magic.

Thibodeau reportedly believes that Anthony Davis will eventually leave the Pelicans, making that job a far less enticing opportunity. At this stage, this report feels more like a rumor than anything, so it'll be interesting to see if it holds true. Thibs shouldn't have much trouble securing his next head coaching gig, but after all the drama that he went through with the Bulls, he may elect to go on a one year hiatus from the coaching scene.

At least three Bulls starters ripped coach Tom Thibodeau in their exit interviews and said they'd avoid team facility this summer if he were still there, according to Dan Bernstein of CBS Chicago.

Let the guessing game begin. Pau Gasol has been a class act for his entire NBA career, so he's the least likely of the five. Of course, the term "ripped" could be translated loosely here. The bottom line is this drama is over and the Bulls and Thibodeau will likely have to face each other next season.

Bulls' GM Gar Forman stated during Thursday's press conference that Chicago will begin their head coaching search Thursday night, and the process will carry into the weekend.

Currently the Chicago's head coaching vacancy is Fred Hoiberg's for the taking, but it remains to be seen if Hoiberg is interested in coaching at the NBA level. Forman said that the Bulls are looking for the "right fit," and someone who has "excellent communication skills," which is a subtle shot at Tom Thibodeau as communication was a documented problem during his time in Chicago. The Bulls also fired Thib's assistant, Andy Greer on Thursday, so there won’t be many remnants of Thibodeau in Chicago when all is said and done.
