Mitch Kupchak said that there was nothing to the rumors that the Lakers organization is reportedly interested in bringing on Tom Thibodeau as a head coach next season.
"I saw something about that this morning, and my first thought was, ‘Let me call Byron [Scott] and let him know that the agents are doing their job, and pay no attention,’" said Kupchak. "Not that I think Byron reads any of that stuff, but someone may call him and say ‘Hey, guess what I just read?’ Nothing to it. We’re incredibly happy with Byron." It sounds like this story was put out there by Thibodeau's camp, trying to drum up interest for the soon to be ex-head coach of the Bulls. Bulls' beat reporter K.C. Johnson also said that Orlando's interest in Thibodeau has been overstated, according to his sources. May 21 - 3:23 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers will reportedly pursue Tom Thibodeau, according to Jordan Schultz of the Huffington Post.

Lakers head coach Byron Scott is still under contract for one more year, but the chance to land Thibodeau may lead to the Lakers to buying out his final year. While there will be competition for Thibs' services, the Lakers would be paying four head coaches (Mike Brown, Mike D'Antoni, Scott, and Thibodeau) if this scenario comes to fruition.

The Bulls have Fred Hoiberg atop their board to replace Tom Thibodeau as head coach, sources told CBS Sports.

Chicago doesn't want to let Thibodeau walk without having a replacement in place, and Hoiberg has been the rumored top name for several months now. Warriors assistant Alvin Gentry is also in the mix, but Hoiberg could probably walk into the United Center and into Thibodeau's office if he wanted to considering how much the Bulls want him. It may drag out for a little while, but Thibodeau will eventually be out in Chicago. As an aside, the Magic are reportedly prepared to pay Thibs $7-$9 million annually to be their head coach if he becomes available.

Marc Stein of ESPN is reporting that Tom Thibodeau's days in Chicago are likely over.

One source close to the situation was quoted saying: "Thibs is gone. They know it and he knows it." The "they" in this quote would be John Paxson (VP of Basketball Operations) and Gar Forman (General Manager), and this goes in line with what has been reported for much of the season, as Thibodeau's relationship with management has reportedly reached an unrepairable level. The Nuggets, Pelicans, and Magic all have openings at the head coaching position, but New Orleans is the only team that owns a true superstar in Anthony Davis. Thibodeau and the Pelicans are said to have mutual interest, as Davis obviously intrigues Thibs. It'll be interesting to see how this situation plays out.

Coach Tom Thibodeau said he expects to coach the Bulls next season.

"Until they tell me I'm not, I expect to be here," Thibodeau said. "That's the way I'm approaching it." There have been rumors of the coach heading out of town and it would be a surprise to see him back at this point. Derrick Rose said it's not up to him, but he would like Thibodeau to be back with the Bulls.

The Pelicans are reportedly interested in hiring Tom Thibodeau as their next head coach

The Pelicans are closely monitoring Tom Thibodeau's fate in Chicago to see if he and the Bulls will part ways. If that happens, Thibodeau is expected to emerge as a leading candidate to replace recently fired Monty Williams. Thibodeau would have no shortage of suitors in that scenario, so it's no sure thing he'll land in New Orleans if he is let go by the Bulls.

Bulls' GM Gar Forman said that all the speculation surrounding Tom Thibodeau's potential departure when the offseason hits is "just noise."

There have been rumors of dysfunction between the Bulls front office and Thibodeau all season long, and a recent column by Yahoo! Sports asserted that Chicago management "can't wait to rid itself of Thibodeau." It's a bit strange for a coach that's had so much success over the years, despite dealing with a myriad of injuries, to be constantly facing questions regarding his job security, but it is what it is. For now, Forman appears to be standing by Thibodeau's side, and it'll be very interesting to see how this story plays out when the offseason hits.

Third parties close to coach Tom Thibodeau are exploring options should Thibodeau leave the Bulls, including the Magic.

There is a reported rift between Thibodeau and general manager Gar Forman, which is "beyond repair," according to the Chicago Tribune. For now, the Bulls are not confirming the report. As for the Magic, they have signed general manager Rob Hennigan to a long-term deal, so Thibodeau would likely have a lateral move.

Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report is reporting that Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau will likely be let go at the end of the season.

Bucher reports that Thibs is at odds with the Bulls front office and the expectation is that he'll be gone at the end of the year no matter how far the Bulls go in the playoffs. Thibodeau has two years left on the four-year extension he signed during the 2012-13 season, but it's starting to look like he won't be around to finish that contract.
Mar 10 - 10:34 AM

Bulls' GM Gar Forman addressed the media on Thursday to deny reports about growing tension between the front office and head coach Tom Thibodeau.

"While as an organization we try to avoid responding to rumors, there is absolutely no basis to this recent speculation," Forman said in a statement. There are rumors that Thibodeau's relationship with the Chicago brass is beyond repair at this point, and that a mutual parting would not be surprising at the conclusion of the 2014-15 season. For what it's worth, Thibodeau has two-years remaining on the four-year extension he signed during the 2012-13 season.

The Chicago Bulls are focusing their free agency plans around Carmelo Anthony, but have also put out feelers on other unrestricted free agents.

The Bulls' main free agency efforts are focused on Anthony at the moment, but the team also reportedly contacted the agents for Pau Gasol, Kirk Hinrich, Paul Pierce, and others as soon as free agency hit. It is unclear at the moment which of those free agents are targets in conjunction with Carmelo and which of those are contingency plans, but it is abundantly clear that the Bulls are setting themselves up with options for both scenarios.

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau has reportedly joined in on the recruiting of Carmelo Anthony.

"According to one of Anthony’s former coaches, Thibodeau has reached out to him and to several other coaches who have worked with Anthony with numerous calls," says Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Derrick Rose has also reportedly joined the conversation in recruiting 'Melo, and the Bulls organization as a whole will be doing everything in their power to persuade Carmelo to leave New York and come to Chicago in hopes of chasing a championship. Anthony reportedly will only leave New York for a sure thing, but Chicago (a team that made the playoffs this past season sans their best player) is certainly closer to raising that Larry O'Brien than New York.

The Bulls are trying to use use their 16th and 19th picks in the draft to move into the lottery, according to Chad Ford of ESPN.com.

The Nuggets hold the 11th pick and are believed to be the most likely to make a deal with the Bulls. Ford says they're possibly looking at Nik Stauskas and Gary Harris as possible selections should they succeed and move up.

NBA Insider Ric Bucher speculates that Tom Thibodeau would only leave Chicago for New York.

While Thibodeau hasn't expressed a desire to leave the Bulls, Bucher called coaching the Knicks a "Dream Job." for Thibodeau. However, with free agency and the NBA draft looming, there are still plenty of decisions ahead.

The Lakers plan to reach out to the Bulls for permission to interview Tom Thibodeau about their vacant head coach position, according to ESPN Los Angeles.

This is coming on the heels of a report that Kobe Bryant likes Thibs as a possible replacement for Mike D'Antoni. There are no indications that the Bulls would grant the Lakers the permission to interview Thibodeau, nor does it seem likely that they will let one of the best coaches in the league be courted by another franchise. Sill this will not stop the Lakers from trying to pursue the 2011 coach of the year.
