Trey Burke is looking forward to a fresh start with the Wizards after falling out of the rotation in Utah last season.
"It was definitely time for a reset," Burke said. "A lot of the things that happened, I didn’t understand. Just to have an opportunity again, being able to play with an All-Star-caliber point guard in John Wall, I look at it as an opportunity to go deep in the playoffs and win games." Burke should be the primary backup behind John Wall next season, but he likely won't be able to make an impact in standard fantasy leagues while the Wizards are at full strength. Jul 24 - 10:21 AM

The Wizards officially announced their acquisition of Trey Burke on Thursday.

Wizards' president Ernie Grunfeld said that Burke will serve as John Wall's primary backup, and that he hopes Burke can "flourish" in that role. Burke is just a career 38.4 percent shooter, so while he could benefit from a change of scenery, it's unlikely he can establish himself as a standard league asset stuck in a reserve role in Washington.

The Wizards are finalizing a deal to acquire Trey Burke from the Jazz in exchange for a second-round pick.

The deal makes sense for both teams because Burke fell out of the rotation in Utah and now becomes the backup point guard behind John Wall in Washington. Burke should benefit from a change of scenery, but he still has a lot to prove because he has shot just 38.4 percent from the field in his NBA career and has really struggled on the defensive end. On a side note, this means that the Wizards likely won't re-sign Ramon Sessions.
Jul 3 - 11:41 AM

Utah has reportedly made Trey Burke available via trade.

With George Hill, Dante Exum, Raul Neto and Shelvin Mack all on the roster, the Jazz are absolutely loaded at the point guard position, so it's not at all surprising to see this report. Utah could use an upgrade with regards to their backup small forward, so that's likely something they'll be looking to address should they unload some of their point guards. If the Pistons don't go after a big-name backup point guard, Burke could be an option for them.

Trey Burke said that he wants to improve his defense and his ability to attack the rim this summer.

"I think attacking the rim, just continue to attack the rim," Burke said of his offseason emphasis. "I think I rely on my jump shot sometimes too much and settle a lot of times. But when I'm at my best I feel like I'm getting in the paint, getting others involved, and the game obviously opens up for me." Dante Exum (knee) will be returning from injury and the Jazz are expected to bring back Shelvin Mack, so Burke will likely be out of the rotation if Utah doesn't trade him this summer.
May 13 - 10:37 AM

Trey Burke is facing an uncertain future with the Jazz.

"I just think not playing me was a decision that coach made," Burke said. "One thing about coach [Quin] Snyder is he's always been straight up with me. He always told me why, even if I didn't really understand it. I just had to stay professional and mature. I know everything is temporary and that my time will eventually come again. I just have to handle the things that I can control." The Jazz will have four point guards on their roster next season (they are expected to keep Shelvin Mack) and Burke is fourth on the depth chart, so expect Utah to try and find him a new home this summer.

Trey Burke admitted that he's a little frustrated with his role in Utah.

"I know I'll have a long career in this league, regardless of what anybody says," Burke said. "That's my mindset. It is a little frustrating because you want to be out there. You know you can help the team. But, for me, I'm looking at the big picture. I don't really look at the temporary situation. I just try to get better every day. Be the best version of me that I can be." Burke has made just two brief appearances over the last five games and is not a fantasy asset.

Trey Burke is trying to be a "spark" off of Utah's bench.

"When they call my number I just want to come out and produce and help try to get the team back in it," Burke said . "I just wanted to come in and bring a spark off the bench. That’s how I’ve got to be." It's a good mentality to take, but Burke isn't a fantasy asset in his current role.
Mar 28 - 11:16 AM

Trey Burke made 4-of-10 from the field and all eight attempts from the line for 18 points with one assist, two steals and two 3-pointers in 22 minutes against the Warriors on Wednesday.

He got back in the rotation thanks to Rodney Hood (back) sitting this one out. Hood shouldn't be out for long, so Burke isn't an appealing add in most leagues.
Mar 10 - 12:53 AM

Trey Burke returned to Utah's rotation on Wednesday but played only 13 minutes, finishing with nine points and one rebound.

Quin Snyder gave Burke a DNP-CD on Monday and said afterward that "it's hard to play three point guards." Shelvin Mack and Raul Neto are both outplaying Burke, especially on defense, so it's hard to envision the 2013 lottery pick emerging with fantasy relevance down the stretch.
Mar 2 - 11:00 PM

Jazz head coach Quin Snyder hinted that Trey Burke probably won't be a major part of the rotation moving forward.

"I don't want to box myself in," Snyder said, "but philosophically it's hard to play three point guards. Raul [Neto] coming off the bench has given us a very steady defensive effort. As you know, that's always been a priority for me." Burke picked up a DNP-CD during Monday's loss to the Celtics, and it's looking like that will be a trend moving forward as Shelvin Mack has effectively pushed Burke out of the rotation. Burke can be cut in most leagues.
Mar 1 - 2:50 PM

Trey Burke was a DNP-CD on Monday.

He might not be a DNP-CD every night, but he's the odd man out right now. Burke can be dropped in almost all leagues.
Feb 29 - 11:00 PM

Trey Burke scored 15 points off the bench on Tuesday vs. the Rockets, adding two boards, one assist and three 3-pointers.

Shelvin Mack took over as the starting PG in place of Raul Neto, but Burke moved ahead of Neto in the rotation and played 29 minutes. He even saw a lot of minutes next to Mack in two-PG lineups, but that had a lot to do with the fact that the Rockets were playing small ball. It looks like Burke will still be in the rotation, but Mack is the PG you want to own in Utah moving forward.
Feb 24 - 12:41 AM

Trey Burke played only 13 minutes off the bench in Portland on Sunday, finishing with six points, one rebound, one assist and one block.

The Jazz traded for Shelvin Mack for a reason, and his arrival is an ill omen for Burke's role this season. Utah's former lottery pick has played single-digit minutes just twice all season prior to this game (once due to injury) and he's safe to cut in all formats now that Mack and Raul Neto are likely to split minutes at PG.
