The Timberwolves reportedly have not had any meaningful negotiations with Shabazz Muhammad on a contract extension.
Through three years of NBA experience, Muhammad hasn't been able to prove that he's an above average player, so there are no guarantees that the two sides strike a deal on an extension. Muhammad will spend time backing up Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine this season, so it'll be tough for him to earn enough minutes to make a difference in most leagues. Sep 21 - 10:08 AM

Shabazz Muhammad made 12-of-16 shots to score 28 points vs. the Pelicans on Wednesday, adding three assists and one steal in just 23 minutes of action.

One of Bazz's makes came from downtown and he contributed to an absolute trouncing of the Pelicans, as the Wolves scored 144 points with 41 assists on 56 made baskets. Sam Mitchell never seemed quite sure how to use the 23-year-old Muhammad, so hopefully the Wolves' next coach will have a clearer plan to maximize his abilities.
Apr 14 - 1:03 AM

Shabazz Muhammad scored 23 points during a 129-105 loss to the Rockets on Monday, adding one rebound, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 22 minutes.

He scored 16 points in the fourth quarter during garbage time, so that explains this line. Muhammad has played well at both forward spots to close out his season, but he’s likely going to see a decreased role with the Wolves having a high-end pick in the draft.
Apr 12 - 12:22 AM

Shabazz Muhammad scored 10 points with two rebounds in 16 minutes against the Kings on Thursday.

He was a monster in Tuesday's win with a career-high 35 points, but he came back to Earth here. Muhammad did grow this season, but he still needs to work on his range and creating plays for his teammates. He only had 46 assists in his 1,618 minutes this season.
Apr 8 - 12:50 AM

Shabazz Muhammad scored a career-high 35 points on Tuesday vs. the Warriors, shooting 9-of-12 from the field and 15-of-17 from the line in 39 minutes.

Incredible. This is the same player who was held to just one point against the Mavericks on Sunday, but he was something else tonight. He didn't have any assists, blocks or steals, but did record six rebounds with two 3-pointers. Muhammad usually posts some empty stat lines other than rebounding and scoring which limits his upside, so owners in standard leagues shouldn't be in a hurry to grab him. Even if you include the 39 minutes he played tonight, he's still only averaging 22.8 minutes over his last five.
Apr 6 - 2:01 AM

Shabazz Muhammad scored 11 points with eight rebounds, four assists and two turnovers in 26 minutes against the Clippers on Wednesday.

He picked up some extra run because of Andrew Wiggins (chin laceration) did not return. The Wolves were blown out in this game and were down as much as 33, so there was no need to bring Wiggins back. For now, it seems Wiggins is only day-to-day. Leave Muhammad on the wire for now.
Mar 30 - 10:49 PM

Shabazz Muhammad scored two points with three rebounds and one turnover in 15 minutes against the Grizzlies on Wednesday.

He was expected to get more run, but it just hasn't happened. Muhammad's upside isn't attractive enough to keep on your roster in most leagues.
Mar 16 - 11:06 PM

Wolves coach Sam Mitchell said that his main focus is giving Shabazz Muhammad his minutes off the bench.

"I want my kids to learn," Mitchell said. "But, if you look at our bench, we have a lot of inexperienced guys there. My main focus is making sure [Muhammad] gets his minutes. But our bench just has to play better. It just has to. The thing that’s amazing to me is the young guys hang in there." Muhammad is playing 26.2 minutes per game over his last five, averaging 14.0 points and 6.2 boards in that span. He doesn't take many 3-pointers and won't help you out in steals, blocks or assists, so he's better suited for points leagues.
Mar 5 - 11:50 AM

Shabazz Muhammad scored 17 points against the Bucks during a 116-101 loss on Friday, adding five rebounds, two assist and one 3-pointer in 27 minutes.

He played almost all of his minutes at small forward tonight. Muhammad has been sitting at 26.2 minutes per game in his last five, averaging 14.0 points, 6.2 boards, 0.2 blocks, 0.2 steals and 0.8 treys. He's a decent add in points leagues or a DFS play, but he's only a borderline pickup in standard leagues.
Mar 5 - 1:01 AM

Shabazz Muhammad gave Minnesota a lift off the bench on Sunday with 24 points on 7-of-13 FGs and 8-of-10 FTs, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Muhammad added five boards and one block, benefiting with Tayshaun Prince out of the lineup -- this marks Muhammad's fifth double-digit scoring performance in the Wolves' past six games. He needs 28-32 minutes to be a consistent option in 12-team leagues, however, so in most instances he remains waiver-wire fodder. We'll let you know if coach Sam Mitchell gives him a longer leash down the stretch.
Feb 28 - 11:00 PM

Shabazz Muhammad scored eight points with six boards, one assist, one steal and one 3-pointer in 25 minutes against the Pelicans on Saturday.

He started the second half for this game for Zach LaVine, which looks like it was by design before the game. Muhammad has been playing both forward spots and he is showing some signs of improvement. He's a decent pickup in points formats or for points-hungry owners in standard-style leagues.
Feb 27 - 10:08 PM

Shabazz Muhammad played 20 minutes against the Celtics on Monday with 13 points, two rebounds, one steal, one block and one 3-pointer.

He didn't play as much power forward tonight after getting 33 total minutes on Saturday. Muhammad doesn't really have a nice ceiling in standard leagues, so he's more of a 14-team points league guy.
Feb 23 - 1:03 AM

Shabazz Muhammad scored 20 points with three rebounds, one assist and two 3-pointers in 33 minutes against the Knicks on Saturday.

It was all about the lineup combo of Muhammad, Ricky Rubio, Zach LaVine, Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns tonight. That combo played a combined 17 minutes all season before this one, but it was up to 15 minutes tonight. We might see 'Bazz get more run, but he's only worth a look in points leagues for now. He did look great in this role, though.
Feb 20 - 10:39 PM

The Celtics are not interested in a Shabazz Muhammad trade, a source told The Boston Globe.

A previous report suggested the Celtics were among a handful of teams that had called to inquire on Muhammad's availability, but that apparently never happened. With a three-headed guard rotation, Evan Turner playing well off the bench and Jae Crowder blossoming before our eyes, there is no need for Muhammad in Beantown.
Feb 15 - 1:19 PM

The Celtics, Clippers, Blazers and Suns have all reached out to the Timberwolves to discuss the availability of Shabazz Muhammad.

Shabazz could be exciting in Phoenix, but there's no indication that these reported talks have been anything more than exploratory. Muhammad needs playing time in the 30s to pop up on the standard league radar, and that won't be happening in Minnesota. He belongs on the waiver wire in most leagues.
