Cody Zeller has been fitted with a mask to protect his broken nose, and will wear it in games.
Zeller is starting this season, but hasn't done much, averaging just 7.1 points and 6.0 rebounds on 38.0 percent shooting from the field with the starting unit. He has a lot of potential, but until he actually lives up to that potential, he's not going to be a must-own player in standard leagues. Dec 19 - 10:47 AM

Cody Zeller (nose) will start on Wednesday vs. the Suns.

He will likely be playing in a mask, so it will be interesting to see if it has an impact on his game. Zeller has held onto the starting gig for now, but has failed to impress so far and often looks lost on the floor. Zeller is still worth a look in most leagues if he ever lives up to his potential, but we wouldn't recommend cutting a player you would miss for him. Marvin William's value takes a big hit with this news.
Dec 17 - 11:26 AM

Cody Zeller suffered a broken nose during Monday's game, and is being listed as questionable for Wednesday's game vs. Phoenix.

Zeller will need to be fitted for a mask, and if he's unable to go on Wednesday, Marvin Williams would get all the minutes he can handle. Noah Vonleh could also step into the rotation, although head coach Steve Clifford has been pretty reluctant to give Vonleh minutes, so it's more likely Charlotte would go small with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist seeing minutes at the four-spot. Stay tuned.

Cody Zeller suffered a nasal contusion and the Bobcats don't think he suffered a concussion in Monday's game.

Zeller played 18 minutes with four points and three boards and that's been his workload for a bit now. Marvin Williams will see his minutes guaranteed if Zeller misses any time, but a nose bruise doesn't sound too serious so we're calling him day-to-day.
Dec 15 - 9:44 PM

Cody Zeller started in Friday's win over the Knicks but played just 17 minutes, finishing with six points, five boards and a block.

It's interesting that he held onto the starting job but Marvin Williams (nine points, five boards, 31 minutes) is still Steve Clifford's most trusted power forward. Williams is an injury risk and Zeller has some upside if he can continue to develop, but there's not a lot of meat to this bone and owners can probably do better in 12-team formats.
Dec 5 - 10:37 PM

Cody Zeller started over Marvin Williams on Wednesday and had 12 points, eight rebounds and a monster jam for the Hornets

Marvin could be being eased back in, or Zeller could have stolen his job. Either way, Zeller is worth a close look by any owners in need of a power forward, but he'll take a big hit if he doesn't hang onto the starting job.
Dec 3 - 10:21 PM

Cody Zeller will start again on Wednesday against the Bulls.

It's unclear if this is just to ease Marvin Williams back or if it will stick. The Hornets haven't been getting much out of their power forward spot and Zeller is doing a much better job on the offensive side, so maybe he continues to start. He's a person to monitor in standard leagues.
Dec 3 - 5:29 PM

Cody Zeller was effective in his 33 minutes as the starting power forward against the Warriors on Friday with 15 points, 14 boards and one turnover.

He only committed two fouls and didn't make many mistakes tonight. Zeller was coming in with a few nice games under his belt before this one and there's a chance he gets his minutes to around 26 even when Marvin Williams (shoulder) comes back. He's worth a look in standard leagues for now, but preferably in exchange for something you're not going to miss much.
Nov 28 - 10:35 PM

Cody Zeller will start at power forward against the Warriors on Friday.

He will presumably start on Saturday as long as he doesn't fall on his face tonight. Zeller has played well in his last three games with 12.3 points per game in that span. He'll really need to keep his fouls down, but the opportunity is there as a fantasy plug-and-play.
Nov 28 - 5:25 PM

Cody Zeller had nine points, seven rebounds, a steal and a block on 4-of-10 shooting in 30 minutes off the bench on Wednesday.

Marvin Williams was useless again, failing to score in 11 minutes, and Zeller has now been playing well for three games. He's averaging 12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, a steal and a block in 30 minutes over that stretch. It would not be surprising to see him replace Marvin Williams in the starting lineup if things don't change soon.
Nov 28 - 4:27 AM

Cody Zeller scored a career-high 17 points against the Clippers on Monday during a 113-92 loss with one rebound, one assist, one steal and one block in 29 minutes.

Blake Griffin dominated Marvin Williams in the early going, so Zeller picked up some extra playing time. Zeller does have some bright spots, but his inability to hit jumpers will likely cost him a chance to be a regular contributor on the stat sheet. He's only worth a look in deep leagues.
Nov 24 - 11:17 PM

Cody Zeller scored double-digit points for the first time in eight games vs. Miami on Sunday, finishing with 11 points on 4-of-7 FTs and 3-of-4 FTs.

He added two rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in 31 minutes of action, but it's hard to like his fantasy outlook given his infrequent scoring outbursts and poor supporting stats. He's averaging 21.6 minutes over the past five games, however, so owners in deep leagues may find him useful.
Nov 23 - 8:47 PM

Cody Zeller logged 35 minutes off the bench in Friday's double-overtime win, scoring 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting with five rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks.

Zeller has produced at a late-round level in just 23.5 mpg this year and with the exception of his 84.6 percent foul shooting, none of his numbers seem over-the-top. He's never shot better than 75.7 percent from the line in his college or pro career, so all things equal he might be a better fit for 14-team leagues. But then again, any increase in playing time represents some pretty good upside.
Nov 8 - 12:49 AM

The Hornets exercised their third-year option on Cody Zeller.

He was one of the worst offensive power forwards in the NBA last season, which explains why they are starting Marvin Williams on opening night. Zeller is not worth owning in almost any league.
Oct 29 - 5:20 PM

Cody Zeller (hand) sat out contact portions of Wednesday's practice.

It's unclear what exactly is wrong with Zeller, and for now we're leaving him off the injury report. Coach Steve Clifford said recently that Zeller needs to limit his fouls to maximize his playing time this season, and he's not worth owning while Marvin Williams is starting at PF.
