Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey said the Jazz are still hoping to sign Rudy Gobert to an extension.
The two sides have until the October 31 deadline to agree to an extension that will prevent Gobert from becoming a restricted free agent after the season, but haven't made any progress yet. "We'll get something done now or later," general manager Dennis Lindsey said. "We obviously don't comment on negotiations. There are times when you get a deal that works for both sides. There are times when it's best to go into restricted free agent. Luckily, we have great trust with Rudy and his agents. Now or later, I think we're fundamentally in a good place." It sounds like something should get done to keep Gobert in Utah, but he's still worth a mid-round pick as a bounce-back candidate this year. Oct 18 - 10:09 AM

Rudy Gobert coasted to 17 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and one steal on Monday, making 7-of-8 FGs and 3-of-3 FTs in 26 minutes of action.

It should be noted that DeAndre Jordan was resting tonight, leaving Gobert to face the less-than-fearsome duo of Marreese Speights and Diamond Stone. The biggest takeaway for fantasy purposes is that Gobert continues to knock down his free throws -- he's a combined 32-of-41 from the line this preseason (78.1 percent), which would shatter his previous career high. His arrow is pointing up after a disappointing 2015-16 campaign.
Oct 17 - 11:36 PM

According to ESPN, Rudy Gobert is the most likely candidate from the 2013 draft class to receive an extension by month's end.

Gobert could command a max contract if he wanted to, but the Jazz will have to find a way to keep their core intact over the next two years -- Derrick Favors has two more years left on his deal and Gordon Hayward will hit free agency next summer. Gobert is averaging 14.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks while shooting 76.3 percent from the line through four preseason games, so he looks like a strong bounce-back candidate.

Rudy Gobert said he's making 90 percent of his free throws in practice.

"I just made 25 in a row again today," Gobert said. "My percentage is going to go way up this year," Well, that sounds promising. Gobert made 13-of-14 from the line on Wednesday, so there is some evidence there. He's not going to make 90 percent from the line during the regular season, but he's a good bet to improve on his 56.9 percent from last year -- his free throw stroke is fairly solid. Gobert is a prime bounce-back candidate.
Oct 7 - 5:12 PM

Rudy Gobert was too much to handle for the Suns on Wednesday, as he racked up 21 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and one steal, making 4-of-7 FGs and 13-of-14 FTs in 28 minutes.

We won't overreact to one preseason game, but the FT shooting is eye-opening. Gobert hit 62.3 percent of his freebies before the All-Star break last year, and that number plummeted to 51.1 percent post-break, so any improvement would be welcome. Last year's injury-plagued season has depressed his fantasy stock, but make no mistake -- Gobert has early-round upside.
Oct 6 - 12:53 AM

Rudy Gobert double-doubled vs. the Blazers on Monday, scoring 10 points (3-of-8 FGs, 4-of-7 FTs) with 13 rebounds and one assist in 22 minutes.

The blocks are obviously going to come, but the biggest takeaway from tonight is that Gobert was moving around really well after struggling to stay healthy in 2015-16. He burned fantasy owners who spent an early-round pick on him last season, but he offers the same upside this time around with a mid-round price. Coach Quin Snyder said before the game that Gobert seems more mature this year and that he's paying better attention to detail, so it will be interesting to see if he can keep this up.

Oct 4 - 12:18 AM

Rudy Gobert reiterated his desire to re-sign with the Utah Jazz.

Gobert will become a restricted free agent next summer if he and the Jazz don't agree to an extension before October 31, but the 24-year-old said he doesn't want to go anywhere. "Everybody knows I want to be here," Gobert said. The Frenchman didn't nearly live up to expectations last season, but he should bounce back in 2016-17 and is posed to be a good post-hype target in fantasy drafts.
Sep 27 - 9:25 AM

Rudy Gobert didn't bring much to the stat sheet during Sunday's 100-97 loss to Team USA, scoring just six points on 3-of-5 shooting to go with five boards and two turnovers in 18 minutes.

As per usual, Gobert did some solid work on defense, but failed to bring much of anything on the offensive end. Gobert's offensive struggles and poor free throw shooting really weigh his value down in fantasy hoops, and he only managed to produce 15th-round value in standard 9-cat leagues after the break this past season with averages of 7.8 points, 11.5 boards, 1.9 swats and 2.0 turnovers per game. He should improve during his fourth NBA season, but he'll be a somewhat risky late-middle round target.
Aug 14 - 3:54 PM

Rudy Gobert scored three points with six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 23 minutes against Serbia on Wednesday.

While the stat line is ugly, the French were at their best while Gobert was out there. He had a team-high plus-16 in his playing time thanks to protecting the paint against the slashing Serbian guards. Gobert's offense is still a major project, but his blocks and boards could make him a nice post-hype target in fantasy drafts.
Aug 10 - 3:27 PM

Rudy Gobert blocked five shots against China on Monday, adding 10 points, eight rebounds and three turnovers in 20 minutes.

He was awesome on the defense end with his paint protection. On the other side of things, Gobert's offensive game still hasn't blossomed after a slight regression last NBA season. He's a possible bounce-back candidate in his age-24 season.
Aug 8 - 11:29 PM

Rudy Gobert turned in an awful game against the Australians on Saturday, scoring five points with seven rebounds, one steal, three blocks and three turnovers.

It's not a bad stat line, but the French defense was a complete disaster with breakdown after breakdown. Gobert has looked really good in international competition before, so expect him to turn it around the next time out. He's still an attractive fantasy target after a disappointing 2015-16 season.
Aug 6 - 3:07 PM

Rudy Gobert and the Jazz will postpone extension talk until after the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Gobert is set to become a restricted free agent after the 2016-17 season, but will focus on playing for Team France in Brazil before continuing contract talks with the Jazz. It seems unlikely that the Jazz won't find a way to keep the 24-year-old, and fantasy owners can expect him to continue to again be a dominant force in the paint next season.
Jul 12 - 9:36 AM

Rudy Gobert will play for France in the Olympics.

He wasn't with the French team during qualifiers, but he'll join them in Rio. Gobert has come a long way since the FIBA competition two years ago, so it'll be interesting to see how he impacts the game. Expect him to be one of the leaders in blocks and boards.
Jul 11 - 9:08 PM

Rudy Gobert would like to remain with the Jazz.

Gobert is "hopeful" that his agent and the organization can work out an extension before the season begins, but it's not the end of the world if that doesn't happen. "I want to stay with the Jazz," Gobert said. "I like the team we’re building. I like everything we’re doing here. I don’t have no reason to go. We’ll see." As an aside, Gobert is currently noncommittal about playing for France in the Olympics, but he hopes to make a decision within the next few days. Instead of participating in the Qualifying Tournament, Gobert worked on his strength and provided ample time for his injured ankle to heal. "I’m way stronger than I was and I feel good. That’s the most important."
Jul 11 - 11:10 AM

According to French sports publication L'Equipe, Rudy Gobert's agent is in Utah for contract extension negotiations.

The Jazz will obviously want to keep him off the market and they're very high on the big man, but it may take a max deal to keep him after seeing some of the contracts being handed out in free agency. The Jazz have plenty of time to negotiate a deal, but Gobert's agent believes that this could be a quick process. Gobert was never really 100 percent last season and still averaged 9.1 points, 11.0 boards and 2.2 blocks, so he will be a bounce-back candidate in 2016-17.
