Jrue Holiday, Victor Oladipo, Robert Covington, Anthony Davis and Rudy Gobert were named to the All-Defensive First Team.
Gobert led the way with 192 points, including a league-high 94 points for first team with Davis behind him (163, 73). Oladipo likely got a heavy bump from voters for his league-leading steal totals and somewhat surprisingly came in third, while Holiday justifiably earned his first defensive team nod. Rudy Gobert, Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid are the finalists for 2017-18 Defensive Player of the Year.

Gobert was limited to 56 games during the regular season but his defensive impact was massive, and he's generally considered the favorite. Injuries haven't been a major concern in his career and he's entering his prime, turning 26 in June, ensuring that he'll be gone within the top-20 picks of almost any fantasy draft.
May 16 - 8:49 PM

Rudy Gobert scored 12 points with nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 32 minutes against the Rockets on Friday.

Gobert has fallen off in two games during this series and made an MVP-caliber impact in one, so not coincidentally the Jazz find themselves down 1-2. The Rockets didn't dominate the paint and this bad loss isn't on Rudy nearly as much as the other key players. That said, Clint Capela is really keeping him in check on the stat sheet.
May 5 - 12:59 AM

Rudy Gobert finally got going late, but it was too late to make a difference in Sunday's 110-96 loss to the Rockets.

Gobert had 11 points, nine boards, a steal, and zero blocks on 4-of-4 shooting in his 35.5 minutes. Simply put, Utah is going to need the big fella to be a more imposing force and a true defensive difference-maker if Utah is going to make this competitive. Gobert has spent much of the season campaigning for his Defensive Player of the Year candidacy. Now would be a good time to show the national audience why he's worthy (and he is) of the award.
Apr 29 - 6:41 PM

Rudy Gobert battled foul trouble during Utah's Game 5 defeat, which he finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds (six offensive), two blocks, one assist and one steal in 30 minutes.

Jazz coach Quin Snyder gambled by playing Gobert with four fouls in the third quarter, and he promptly picked up his fifth. His absence was immediately obvious with OKC erasing a 25-point deficit in just eight minutes of action, after which the Jazz couldn't regain the advantage. Gobert hadn't played fewer than 33 minutes in the series prior to tonight, and he's not prone to foul trouble, so this shouldn't alter his outlook as a prime DFS target at center.
Apr 26 - 12:26 AM

Rudy Gobert hit 7-of-11 shots for 16 points, 10 rebounds, a steal and a block in 34 minutes of Monday's Game 4 win over the Thunder.

Gobert took a shot to the batteries from Raymond Felton, and despite selling the drama, he's fine. It felt like he had more than one block tonight, but whether he's blocking shots or not, he's playing tough defense for the best defensive team in the league. OKC scored 30 points in the first quarter and then the Jazz put the clamps down and dominated the final three quarters. Game 5 is Wednesday at OKC.
Apr 24 - 1:29 AM

Rudy Gobert scored 18 points with 12 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 41 minutes against the Thunder on Saturday.

He had such a huge impact on this game with putting fouls on Steven Adams and just owning the paint on the defensive side. Offensively, he continues to set high screens to set the halfcourt offense, and he picked up five offensive boards today. Gobert isn't going to lead the Jazz in scoring in just about all the games this season, but his presence on both ends makes the Jazz who they are. Don't be surprise to see the Jazz take this series.
Apr 22 - 12:46 AM

Rudy Gobert piled up 13 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals in 33 minutes of action vs. OKC on Wednesday.

Gobert began the game 2-of-6 from the FT line but he made them when it mattered most, finishing 7-of-12 at the stripe. His job got easier with Steven Adams playing only 22 minutes due to foul trouble, before fouling out in the fourth quarter, and the battle at center remains a key to the series. Gobert shot just 54.4% on the road this season, compared to 68.8% during home games, so we're expecting some big performances in Games 3 and 4.
Apr 18 - 10:55 PM

Rudy Gobert played 35 minutes during Sunday's loss to the Thunder, finishing with 14 points (6-of-8 FGs, 2-of-6 FTs), seven rebounds, two blocks and one assist.

Gobert averaged a modest 10.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks in two regular-season games vs. OKC this season, and he was similarly muted tonight. Steven Adams' physicality makes him one of the tougher matchups for Gobert, who also battled with foul trouble in the second half. Expect the Defensive Player of the Year frontrunner to have a better overall performance when Utah tries to even the series at 1-1 on Wednesday.
Apr 15 - 9:26 PM

Rudy Gobert scored 15 points with 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal and three blocks in 28 minutes during a 117-95 win over the Clippers on Thursday.

He has to have Defensive Player of the Year locked up as the Jazz win their fourth straight. Sure, he's not going to hit 60 games due to two knee injuries, but the Jazz are just so good with him on the court and it's not like Kawhi Leonard or Draymond Green are threatening him. Utah also has a comfortable lead to make the postseason and they're just two games behind the Blazers for the No. 3 seed, which is even more interesting because they play each other in the finale. Gobert is not likely going to rest this season.
Apr 6 - 12:39 AM

Rudy Gobert scored 12 points with 16 rebounds, five assists, two steals and three blocks in 36 minutes against the Lakers on Tuesday.

That's just the second time this season he has been over three assists. Gobert's blocks are back in a big way with seven in his last two games and he's also picked up double-digit boards in each of his last five games. He's more than made up his injury-plagued start.
Apr 4 - 1:41 AM

Rudy Gobert scored 10 points with 11 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal in 40 minutes against the Celtics on Wednesday.

He is logging some huge minutes right now with another 40-minute game on Friday, and a whopping 36.0 minutes per game in his previous outings this month -- they've got to garbage time in several of those games, too. In his previous games this month, he's averaged 17.7 points, 13.0 boards, 1.2 dimes, 1.0 steals and 2.5 blocks. Tough loss aside, Gobert's fantasy owners couldn't be happier.
Mar 29 - 12:11 AM

Rudy Gobert posted 17 points, 15 rebounds, four blocks and three assists on Sunday, hitting 7-of-11 FGs and 3-of-4 FTs in 31 minutes of action.

The Warriors started JaVale McGee at center tonight but they had no real answer for Gobert's interior presence -- five of Rudy's boards came on the offensive glass. Owners who survived Gobert's injuries early this season (27 DNPs through Jan. 17) have been rewarded with elite matchup-winning production since the All-Star break.
Mar 25 - 11:27 PM

Rudy Gobert scored 13 points with eight rebounds, one assist, one steal and no blocks in 40 minutes against the Spurs on Friday.

The Spurs went right at him all night, and you'd probably need all your fingers and toes to count the times Gobert just missed a blocked shot. LaMarcus Aldridge gave him the business with a career-high 45 points, so this one will not go on the Rudy Defensive Player of the Year highlight reel. He's been too good for his owners to complain here and he'll get a fourth game of the week on Sunday against the Warriors.
Mar 23 - 11:28 PM

Rudy Gobert scored 11 points with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, five blocks and no turnovers in 36 minutes against the Mavs on Thursday.

He snapped his five-game streak with a double-double, but his owners will give him a pass with a combined seven defensive stats. Gobert was also 5-of-5 from the line to get him to 69.8 percent on the season. He's probably going to be on a lot of title teams and he's looking like a lock to go in the first round of nine-cat leagues next year.
