The Suns will waive G Archie Goodwin, according to The Vertical's Shams Charania.
It is arguably the most surprising move of the day. Goodwin was a first-round pick back in the 2013 draft and is still just 22 years old. He averaged 8.9 points in 19.5 minutes for the Suns last season. He even started 13 games for Phoenix, and averaged 15.9 points and 4.4 assists in those 13 contests. He had one year left of guaranteed money on his contract worth $2.1 million. There are some obvious flaws in his game, especially his career 3-point percentage currently sits at just 22.7 percent. On the other hand, he has shown flashes of incredible athleticism and talent. It is safe to assume he'll draw plenty of interest from around the league and likely won't clear waivers. Archie Goodwin is trying to stay positive despite limited opportunities in the backcourt this season.

"I can only control what I can control," Goodwin said. "I’m just staying positive. Whenever my name is called, I’ll try my best to be prepared and play the best I can because you never know what will happen." The Suns will start Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker with Brandon Knight logging heavy minutes off the bench, meaning Goodwin will have to fight for limited minutes with Tyler Ulis and Leandro Barbosa. Booker (ankle) is questionable for Friday's game vs. Dallas, so Goodwin could get a long look.
Oct 14 - 11:10 AM

Suns general manager Ryan McDonough said the team will talk about an extension with Archie Goodwin's agent later in October.

Goodwin is set to become a restricted free agent after the 2016-17 season if an agreement is not agreed upon by the October 31 deadline, but McDonough said talks will happen. "We want to see how it goes in training camp and preseason and then we’ll revisit it as a staff probably the last week or last 10 days of October," McDonough said. Goodwin will be stuck in a backcourt logjam to start the season, but is still worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues.
Sep 27 - 12:06 PM

Archie Goodwin (ankle) logged 30 minutes vs. the Clippers on Wednesday, scoring 10 points with five assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Goodwin shot just 5-of-16 from the field without any 3-pointers tonight. He's a work in progress as a point guard, and Earl Watson has specifically pointed to defensive lapses as a hurdle to playing time. Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight are locked in as the Suns' backcourt of the future so it might take a trade for Goodwin to be a reliable fantasy asset next season.
Apr 14 - 1:33 AM

Archie Goodwin (ankle) will play against the Clippers on Wednesday.

He wants to start next season, so this might be a big chance for him to boost his trade value. In 2014-15, Goodwin scored his season-high in the finale, so maybe he can do it again tonight. He'll be an interesting option in DFS against the Clippers B team.
Apr 13 - 5:46 PM

Archie Goodwin (ankle) is expected to play against the Clippers on Wednesday.

There's a good chance he will be busy after missing Monday. Goodwin was terrific on Saturday with 24 points before spraining his ankle in the fourth quarter. He will likely get close to 30 minutes tonight, assuming he's close to 100 percent. Ronnie Price loses a lot of fantasy appeal here.
Apr 13 - 2:23 PM

Archie Goodwin (ankle) will not play against the Kings on Monday night.

It's too bad because he was very good on Saturday. Goodwin was visibly upset after the injury in the fourth quarter and his season might be over. Ronnie Price will get a lot of minutes at the point tonight, so he's worth a look in a fantastic matchup.
Apr 11 - 9:11 PM

Archie Goodwin (left ankle) is doubtful for Monday night against the Kings.

He rolled his left ankle in the fourth quarter on Saturday and did not return. Goodwin was playing terrific ball in that win, which took away from Ronnie Price. With Goodwin likely out, Price should be able to get more minutes again.
Apr 11 - 2:29 PM

Archie Goodwin rolled his left ankle in the fourth quarter on Saturday.

The Suns were up 25 points when he left, so he's likely not coming back. Goodwin didn't have too bad of a limp as he went to the locker room and he might have been able to return had the game been close. He played very well in this game with 24 points, three rebounds, three assists and three 3-pointers. Keep an eye on him in the final two games.
Apr 9 - 9:12 PM

Earl Watson said that he wants Archie Goodwin to improve as a defender.

"It’s a challenge for Archie, but I think Archie wants playing time," Watson said of returning him to point-guard duties. "So this is a chance for Archie not to just focus on being a point guard and running the team but a chance for Archie to show how he can defend the ball." Goodwin is only seeing his minutes in the lower-teens, which isn't enough time for him to produce in most settings. Leave him on the wire.
Apr 6 - 1:49 PM

Archie Goodwin was a DNP-CD during Friday's win over the Lakers.

With Brandon Knight healthy and Ronnie Price serving as his primary backup, Goodwin has fallen out of the rotation in Phoenix. At this juncture in the fantasy season, Goodwin belongs on the waiver wire in most leagues.
Mar 19 - 2:03 AM

Archie Goodwin scored 10 points in 24 minutes against the Heat on Thursday with two rebounds, three assists and no turnovers.

The Suns still haven't figured out their guard rotation and Goodwin isn't seeing many minutes al the point anymore. It's not a surprise to see how lost they are based on losing their franchise-record 17th straight road games. Goodwin can be dropped in most leagues.
Mar 3 - 10:10 PM

As part of his continued development, the Suns plan to keep giving Archie Goodwin minutes primarily at shooting guard.

"When we’re in half-court sets, [he can] kind of like steal some things from Corey Brewer – constant movement, constant slicing," Watson said. "And then, of course, the 3-point shooting will come with more reps." The Suns plan to get creative to find minutes for Goodwin, which can only help his fantasy value. Owners should continue to hold onto him, unless there is a hot free agent on the wire.

Feb 28 - 9:38 AM

Archie Goodwin scored 12 points with three rebounds and no turnovers in 24 minutes against the Grizzlies on Saturday.

Before the game, coach Earl Watson said he wanted to get some run for Goodwin and that held up. Goodwin played just 18 minutes and did not score on Thursday, but this is much better. He's not a must-own player at all these days, but you could do worse.
Feb 28 - 12:48 AM

Archie Goodwin dropped 20 points vs. the Clippers on Monday with one board, one steal and one 3-pointer in 38 minutes.

Other than the scoring, it was a pretty empty line for the 21-year-old guard and he shot just 6-of-19 from the field with three turnovers. He came off the bench once again and played off the ball because coach Earl Watson wants to use more traditional point guards, but he took advantage of some garbage time. He should still get plenty of minutes on the tanking Suns moving forward, but he's a low-end asset for now.
