Jeff Withey gained 17 pounds from last season and is now up to 240.
The Pelicans are expected to bring on Omer Asik in a deal, so Withey's chances of making an impact next season seem to be dwindling. He'll likely get some extended playing time in Las Vegas Summer League later this week. Jul 9 - 2:21 PM

Date:

Jeff Withey will play in Las Vegas Summer League in July.

He had a decent finish to his rookie season, averaging 8.2 points, 4.0 boards, 0.3 steals and 2.6 blocks in 22.1 minutes per game in his last nine. Withey didn't do much in summer league in 2013 and maybe a year under his belt could help him this time around.
Jun 13 - 11:47 AM

Jeff Withey blocked four shots in Monday's win, and also chipped in with eight points and six boards in 33 minutes.

Withey should get big minutes in Wednesay's finale and is worth a look if you're hunting boards and blocks. Alexis Ajinca (19 minutes, 10 points, four boards, five fouls) is also worth a look in that regard to a lesser extent.
Apr 14 - 11:38 PM

Jeff Withey and Austin Rivers will start vs. the Thunder on Friday night.

He's coming off a career-high 17 points on Wednesday and will look to build that momentum. One problem, though: Serge Ibaka. Withey is a middle-upside, high-risk player tonight, but the Pelicans figure to give him some run. Al-Farouq Aminu moves to the bench.
Apr 11 - 7:00 PM

Jeff Withey scored a career-high 17 points vs. the Suns during a 94-88 loss on Wednesday, adding two boards, three assists and one block on 7-of-10 from the field.

If Anthony Davis (back) is out for any more time, there really is no reason why the Pelicans shouldn't play their rookie. Greg Stiemsma has been a detriment to offensive flow and at least Withey has shown he can move a little without the ball to establish position. He offers some upside for owners looking to stream big man stats.
Apr 9 - 11:38 PM

Jeff Withey played 30 minutes against the Nuggets on Wednesday with 13 points, five board, one assist, one steal and four blocks.

The Pelicans have no reason not to play the rookie at this point and he felt comfortable around the basket. Greg Stiemsma has been a liability on offense, so don't be surprised to see Withey get a start. To be clear, the NO center spot has been a wasteland in fantasy and only owners in deep leagues should care.
Apr 3 - 1:05 AM

Jeff Withey blocked a career-high five shots in Monday's loss, and also added eight points on 4-of-4 shooting with seven rebounds and a steal in 28 minutes off the bench.

The Kings always give the opposition a lot of blocks so that explains some of the big number there, but in general owners have an entire season's worth of work to look back on in order to avoid the big man mess in New Orleans. If he can do it again we'll let you know.
Apr 1 - 1:53 AM

Jeff Withey moved back to the bench against the Hawks on Friday and failed to score.

He got the start on Wednesday with Anthony Davis out and couldn't build off that nine-point game. Withey has no fantasy value in the majority of leagues.
Mar 22 - 12:34 AM

Jeff Withey was in the starting lineup in place of Anthony Davis (illness) on Wednesday vs. the Raptors, scoring nine points with four boards, one assist, one steal and two blocks.

He seems to be building momentum as the best center among Alexis Ajinca and Greg Stiemsma for Monty Williams' Pelicans. Withey is basically a big fish in a little pond for one of the least productive spots in any NBA lineup, but at least he's been at 28.0 minutes per game in his last two. He's only on the radar in deep leagues despite blocking five shots in his last two games.
Mar 19 - 11:55 PM

Jeff Withey and Greg Stiemsma are starting on Wednesday vs. the Raptors.

Apparently coach Monty Williams wants to keep Al-Farouq Aminu with his second unit. Withey and Stiemsma will join Brian Roberts, Eric Gordon and Tyreke Evans in the starting lineup. Neither big man is worth using in most formats.
Mar 19 - 7:59 PM

Jeff Withey, Luke Babbit and Alexis Ajinca are candidates to start Friday if Anthony Davis (day-to-day, shoulder) can't.

Interestingly, the Times-Picayune doesn't consider Ajinca a real option to get the nod. But note that the last time Davis sat out (Jan. 29), Ajinca started next to Greg Stiemsma and had four points and five rebounds in 16 minutes. Regardless, there's not much plug-play upside here for owners looking to protect themselves against a Brow absence. We'd expect the Pelicans to go small a ton, meaning lots of minutes for Tyreke Evans and Al-Farouq Aminu. They can get away with small ball against the Suns.
Feb 28 - 9:27 AM

Jeff Withey disappeared in Friday's game, scoring two points with five rebounds and one steal in 19 minutes.

Withey scored a career-high 14 points on Tuesday but in New Orlean's center shuffle he's going to have to have prolonged success before owners should do anything but watch.
Jan 24 - 11:29 PM

Jeff Withey came off the bench for a career-high 14 points to go along with five rebounds, two steals and two blocks in Tuesday's loss.

With Jason Smith and Ryan Anderson both out indefinitely, someone is going to have to step up at center for the Pelicans, and tonight that was Withey. Greg Stiemsma started and failed to score in 11 minutes, while Alexis Ajinca had four points, four rebounds, a steal and a block in 16 minutes. These three could trade good games from here on out, and relying on any of them in fantasy is risky business. But Withey should be given a close look on Friday against the Pistons after this one.
Jan 22 - 12:09 AM

Jeff Withey saw some extra playing time on Saturday, playing 14 minutes for three points, two boards and one block.

The Pelicans are in a lot of trouble up front and their plan is going to take a detour after trading some picks for Jrue Holiday (leg) over the summer. They might go with a youth movement, but obviously Withey has almost no fantasy value right now. Alexis Ajinca scored two points with four boards and a block in 12 minutes.
Jan 19 - 2:18 AM

Rookie Jeff Withey played for the first time in four games and had a career night with nine points, five boards, a steal and a block on 2-of-2 shooting in 18 minutes.

He also hit 5-of-6 free throws and ended up on a poster when Xavier Henry threw down the dunk of the night in his grill. He'll see some run if Greg Stiemsma misses serious time with his left knee injury, but not enough that you should think about picking him up. Hit the link in case you missed the poster shot.
