Date:

Isaiah Canaan had surgery and he will be out for the rest of the season.

The good news is he is expected to be ready for camp. Canaan is going to turn 27 years old in May and he did help his case for a roster spot on some team next year, averaging 8.6 points, 3.8 dimes, 0.8 steals and 1.1 treys in 20 games this season. We'll be rooting for some Canaan balls in 2018-19. Fantasy wise, Josh Jackson is the beneficiary here.
Feb 1 - 4:29 PM

Isaiah Canaan was diagnosed with a left ankle fracture on Wednesday.

This was a gruesome injury and he'll likely be ruled out for the season. Canaan as been a pleasant surprise with the Suns and the team signed him for the season. He'll have a tough recovery on his hands and hopefully he can get back out there for training camp. The Suns will have to turn to Tyler Ulis, Troy Daniels and maybe Davon Reed down the line.
Jan 31 - 11:17 PM

Isaiah Canaan suffered a horrible leg injury against the Mavs on Wednesday.

It looked really bad as Canaan's foot went in the wrong direction. This was a lot like Gordon Hayward's injury and we're all rooting for Canaan to be able to bounce back from this one. Tyler Ulis will pick up some extra minutes.
Jan 31 - 11:07 PM

Isaiah Canaan struggled as a starter on Monday vs. the Grizzlies, scoring four points on 1-of-5 shots with three rebounds, three assists and two turnovers in 17 minutes.

This was a wasted opportunity for Canaan with Devin Booker (ribs) sitting this one out. To make matters worse, Tyler Ulis clearly outplayed him tonight with 13 points, seven assists and five steals in 31 minutes. Booker could be back on Wednesday vs. Dallas, so Canaan is only worth monitoring in deeper leagues for now.
Jan 29 - 11:14 PM

Isaiah Canaan, Troy Daniels, T.J. Warren, Dragan Bender and Greg Monroe will start on Monday vs. the Grizzlies.

The Suns are shorthanded tonight with Devin Booker (ribs) and Marquese Chriss (ankle) out. Tyson Chandler is also getting the night off. Canaan has outplayed Tyler Ulis since he arrived in Phoenix and is the best bet to help fantasy owners in Phoenix's backcourt.
Jan 29 - 7:47 PM

Isaiah Canaan scored two points with three rebounds, four assists and four fouls in 20 minutes against the Knicks on Friday.

He was the second PG and was ahead of Tyler Ulis, but Canaan was extra sloppy in this game. The Devin Booker PG move was not good today, so maybe Canaan just takes over. He's not an add here.
Jan 27 - 1:30 AM

Isaiah Canaan (groin) posted 13 points, two rebounds, two assists and two 3-pointers in 20 minutes during Sunday's home loss to the Pacers.

Canaan missed three games with the injury and his return predictably cut into the workload of starting PG Tyler Ulis (24 minutes). If you're looking for a Suns PG to own, Canaan is the better option with top-100 value over the past month.
Jan 14 - 10:31 PM

Isaiah Canaan (groin) and Josh Jackson (hip, groin) will be available to play Sunday vs. the Pacers.

Canaan will be returning from a three-game absence, and he should slot back into his 20-minute bench role, which will result in fewer minutes for Tyler Ulis. Jackson's return to action could push Danuel House out of the rotation entirely. Canaan was playing pretty well prior to going down, so he could be someone to consider grabbing in deep leagues.
Jan 14 - 6:23 PM

Isaiah Canaan (groin) practiced in full on Saturday.

Canaan nearly played on Friday, so him getting through Saturday's practice without issue is a great sign regarding his status for Sunday's game against the Pacers. We should have another update following Sunday morning's shootaround, but if he is able to get back out there following a three-game absence, he'd cut into Tyler Ulis' minutes.
Jan 13 - 4:05 PM

Isaiah Canaan (groin) and Josh Jackson (hip) will not play on Friday vs. the Rockets.

Canaan was upgraded to probable and was expected to return, but coach Jay Triano said he's "just not ready yet." Tyler Ulis will see more minutes with Canaan out and we'll see Devin Booker run some point.
Jan 12 - 8:52 PM

Isaiah Canaan (groin) has been upgraded to probable for Friday's game against the Rockets.

Canaan appears to be on track to return from a two-game absence on Friday, and considering he tends to only see minutes in the 20s and he wasn't out for very long, we wouldn't expect much restrictions on him tonight if he is able to get out there. He's played well in Phoenix this season with averages of 9.1 points, 4.5 assists, 1.1 triples, 1.0 steal and just 1.3 turnovers per game on 41.4% shooting, so he could be someone to think about grabbing in deep leagues.
Jan 12 - 2:07 PM

Isaiah Canaan (left adductor strain) practiced on Thursday but remains questionable for Friday's game vs. Houston.

Canaan was expected to miss 7-10 days as of Jan. 7, so he's be well ahead of that timetable if he suits up on Friday. Tyler Ulis has averaged 33.5 minutes over the past two games, but he'll likely be back in the mid-20s once Canaan gets back on the court.
Jan 11 - 3:23 PM

Isaiah Canaan (left adductor strain) will be re-evaluated in 7-10 days.

"The MRI showed more damage than we thought," said coach Jay Triano. That's a very discouraging quote, but at least his absence is currently being measured in days. Tyler Ulis will be busy in Canaan's absence, Davon Reed could earn some minutes, and Triano said that Devin Booker will "have to" play more point guard. If you've been holding Canaan as a low-end option, this is your cue to cut him in standard leagues.
Jan 7 - 6:27 PM

Isaiah Canaan (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Thunder.

This will be Canaan's second straight game on the sidelines, which should translate to more minutes for Tyler Ulis. The Suns don't play again until Friday against the Rockets, so perhaps he'll be able to get back out there for that one. As a side note, Phoenix guaranteed Canaan's contract for the rest of the season on Sunday, so he'll finish the 2016-17 season with the Suns.
