The Hornets will work out free agent PG/SG Isaiah Canaan.
Canaan has had stints with the Rockets, 76ers and Bulls, but he hasn't found much success because the only thing he brings to the table is perimeter shooting. He's 26 with career averages of 8.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.7 treys, and he's hoping to latch on with the Hornets as a third-string PG. Charlotte will also be auditioning Donald Sloan and Norris Cole. Jul 25 - 8:48 AM

Bulls waive G Isaiah Canaan.

The transition to shooting guard has gone somewhat well for the undersized Canaan, but he still doesn't offer much beyond his shooting. Canaan is still 26 years old and will likely get a camp deal in September.

Jun 30 - 4:54 PM

Isaiah Canaan scored nine points with one assist and one 3-pointer in 25 minutes against the Celtics on Friday.

After a 3-pointer in the first half, Canaan was actually talking trash to Isaiah Thomas. Needless to say, Thomas won the battle of the Isaiahs. Canaan isn't a lock to be in an NBA rotation next year, but he was encouraging in the postseason. Despite his three starts in the postseason, it would be a massive surprise to see him get any starting consideration next year.
Apr 28 - 11:06 PM

Isaiah Canaan started Wednesday's Game 5 defeat in Boston and finished with 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting, one 3-pointer, two rebounds, one steal and four turnovers in 36 minutes.

Canaan was the Bulls' best PG during Game 4, with Jerian Grant and Michael Carter-Williams both struggling in limited minutes, so this was an obvious lineup tweak from the Bulls. Fred Hoiberg said he started Canaan for defensive purposes, and Isaiah Thomas did struggle early with Chicago's physicality, finishing 6-of-17 from the field, but the Celtics' star turned it up late. All signs point to Canaan playing a similarly big role during Friday's must-win home game.
Apr 26 - 11:28 PM

Coach Fred Hoiberg said the decision to start Isaiah Canaan has to do with defense against Isaiah Thomas.

Makes sense. Michael Carter-Williams was brought on for his defense, but IT has turned him into a pretzel throughout this series. Canaan did come in at 80 on defensive real plus minus for the 91 qualifying point guards during the season, and he's certainly had some bad runs in Chicago and in Philly. Canaan played 34 minutes in Game 4 and should be looking at decent minutes again today. He's an obvious DFS punt.
Apr 26 - 7:10 PM

Isaiah Canaan will replace Jerian Grant in the starting lineup for Wednesday's Game 5 against the Celtics.

Grant wasn't giving Chicago anything as their starting point guard, so he might fall out of the rotation entirely on Wednesday night. As for Canaan, he looked pretty good through 34 minutes on Sunday, posting 13 points, three triples, three dimes, two boards and two steals, so he might be someone to consider as a potential punt play in daily leagues.
Apr 24 - 3:49 PM

Isaiah Canaan started the second half of Sunday's game, playing 34 minutes to finish with 13 points, three 3-pointers, three assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Jerian Grant and Michael Carter-Williams have been lousy in Rajon Rondo's absence, so coach Fred Hoiberg turned to the seldom-used Canaan tonight. Canaan wasn't on the active roster for Game 3 and he'd played just 21 minutes since March 1, but he gave the Bulls a huge boost to stay competitive tonight. Fred Hoiberg wouldn't commit to starting him for Game 5 on Wednesday, but either way we expect him to maintain a healthy role. Keep an eye on him as a DFS punt play.

Isaiah Canaan (toe) played four minutes with one assist in a loss to the Suns on Friday.

The Bulls emptied the bench at the 4:20 mark, so that explains Canaan's four minutes tonight. He's not in the rotation when the Bulls are healthy on the wings.
Feb 11 - 1:40 AM

Isaiah Canaan (toe) is available to play on Friday vs. the Suns.

With Jimmy Butler (heel) back and Dwyane Wade (illness) playing, Canaan may not see the floor tonight. Leave him on the wire.
Feb 10 - 9:29 PM

Isaiah Canaan (toe) did not practice on Thursday and is day-to-day.

He was in the rotation on Wednesday because of Dwyane Wade (illness) and Jimmy Butler (heel) being inactive. If those guys are back, Canaan likely won't be in the rotation.
Feb 9 - 4:18 PM

Isaiah Canaan scored nine points with one 3-pointer against the Cavs on Friday night.

He is looking at a nice increase in playing time against the Mavs on Saturday. Dwyane Wade (rest) did not travel and will miss his second game to open up plenty of wing minutes. The last time Wade was out, Canaan thrived off the bench with 17 points in 31 minutes. He's a streaming or DFS punt option.

Isaiah Canaan (neck) is probable to play Tuesday vs. Portland.

Canaan has been hit-or-miss this season with his minutes fluctuating between the mid-20s and lower-teens depending on the matchup. He's averaging just 6.2 points, 1.6 assists and 1.1 triples per game, so it's pretty clear that his fantasy value will be negligible in most leagues with Rajon Rondo is healthy.
Mon, Nov 14, 2016 04:12:00 PM

Isaiah Canaan missed his only shot and played just nine minutes, failing to score on Thursday.

He had scored eight and 10 points in his previous two games, but Rajon Rondo was feeling it tonight, and the Bulls simply didn't need Canaan. As long as Rondo's healthy, he's afterthought in fantasy.
Thu, Nov 10, 2016 11:39:00 PM

Isaiah Canaan scored four points in 14 minutes against the Knicks on Friday with one rebound and one assist.

For basically the past two years, Canaan has played straight shooting guard. However, he got a look at the one tonight. Until he can string together consistent minutes, this is a situation to ignore in most leagues.

Isaiah Canaan scored 15 points vs. the Nets on Monday, shooting 5-of-7 from the field

Michael Carter-Williams left the game with a sprained left knee and is likely going to miss some time, so Canaan made the most of his opportunity. He added six assists, three rebounds, one steal and three treys in 22 minutes, and he could be the backup PG moving forward. For now, he's only worth a look in deeper formats and it's worth noting that the Bulls won by 30 points.
