Isaiah Canaan will likely be competing for limited minutes off the bench with Pierre Jackson.
Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer projects Tony Wroten and Kendall Marhsall to be ahead of them both on the depth chart, but Canaan or Jackson could get some burn early on with Marshall still recovering from knee surgery. Canaan has some fantasy appeal for his willingness to launch 3-pointers, but his value will be limited to very deep leagues while the 76ers are at full strength. Pompey did mention that Canaan could see additional time in two-PG lineups, so that will be something to look for during the preseason. Sep 18 - 1:54 PM

Isaiah Canaan said Jahlil Okafor is "going to open up everything" for the 76ers offense.

"He’s a big presence on the post," Canaan said. "He can score the ball and he can pass. With a big guy who can do that and draw a lot of attention, he’s going to open up everyone else on the team and he’s going to be big piece for us." While everyone is hung up on small-ball, having a dominant big man within three feet of the rim should help spacing around the 3-point line. Although, Okafor's passing out of the post was nowhere near as effective as Karl-Anthony Towns. Canaan is a late-round flier for now.
Jul 24 - 12:10 AM

Isaiah Canaan (foot) has been out of his cast since May 30 and has been scrimmaging for the past two weeks.

He suffered his foot injury on Apr. 1 and did not return. The 76ers had a slew of relatively unknown players at point guard, but they might not draft a point guard now with Joel Embiid (foot) is out indefinitely. If the 76ers don't add anyone, Canaan could have some sneaky late-round value.
Jun 17 - 2:57 PM

Isaiah Canaan (foot) has been ruled out for the remainder of the regular season.

This move comes as no surprise as Canaan is still wearing a walking boot, but he can safely be dropped in all fantasy leagues. Ish Smith will see all the minutes he can handle going forward, while JaKarr Sampson will see some extra minutes and provide value in deeper fantasy leagues.
Apr 7 - 1:43 PM

Isaiah Canaan (foot) is wearing a walking boot at Saturday's game against the Hornets.

He's already been ruled out for Sunday and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him miss most of next week. With Canaan out, the 76ers moved JaKarr Sampson to the bench to be the backup point guard, but he still doesn't have much fantasy value. Ish Smith is worth owning in standard leagues.
Apr 4 - 8:09 PM

Isaiah Canaan (sprained foot) will not play on Saturday against the Hornets.

According to coach Brett Brown, Canaan is going to miss two days, so we would consider him doubtful to play on Sunday against the Knicks. The 76ers do not have a backup point guard, so JaKarr Sampson will likely be the point guard for their second unit. Ish Smith should be owned in all standard leagues while Canaan can be cut in most formats.
Apr 3 - 4:06 PM

Isaiah Canaan suffered a right ankle sprain against the Wizards on Wednesday and did not return.

The injury occurred late in the game, so it's unknown if this ankle sprain was severe. If he needs to miss time, the 76ers will likely have to revert back to using JaKarr Sampson as the backup point guard. Ish Smith is an extremely strong add in standard leagues now. Canaan finished with 18 points, three rebounds, six assists, two steals and four 3-pointers in 22 minutes.
Apr 1 - 9:21 PM

Isaiah Canaan scored 18 points off the bench in Monday's overtime loss, hitting 4-of-9 shots (3-of-7 3PTs, 7-of-7 FTs) with zero rebounds, three assists and three steals in 27 minutes off the bench.

Canaan has his head back above the water in 12-team standard leagues, but owners shouldn't expect more than some threes and steals at this point.
Mar 31 - 1:04 AM

Isaiah Canaan played 20 minutes against the Clippers on Friday with nine points, two rebounds and three 3-pointers.

Plus/minus isn't the best stat, but Canaan was a minus-22 in his 20 minutes tonight. He's clearly losing playing time to Ish Smith and he could be limited to minutes in the teens going forward. The former Rocket is a drop candidate considering he's not playing well right now.
Mar 27 - 10:57 PM

Isaiah Canaan made one of his 12 shot attempts on Sunday, coming off the bench for three points, one rebound and two assists in 22 minutes.

There is no bright side to relate. He didn't have any steals and appears stuck in an unfavorable backup role behind Ish Smith, who is somewhat more appealing given their current roles for Philly. Owners in roto leagues may want to exercise some patience, but anyone in a head-to-head matchup should feel free to jettison Canaan.
Mar 23 - 12:39 AM

Isaiah Canaan scored 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting (4-of-8 3PTs) with zero rebounds, two assists and one steal in 20 minutes off the bench on Friday.

Canaan's declining role and substandard production aren't thrilling, but there's still some upside to holding onto him and four triples isn't a bad look. If you're staring at a mid-to-high level free agent feel free to make the move, however.
Mar 20 - 11:55 PM

Isaiah Canaan moved to the bench against the Pistons on Wednesday with nine points, three rebounds, four assists, one steal and two 3-pointers on 2-of-10 from the field.

Ish Smith outplayed him big time tonight and the 76ers won, so Canaan might stick on the bench. He is still a good bet to hit a couple treys per game, but Smith looks like a more complete player to add in fantasy leagues.
Mar 18 - 11:35 PM

Isaiah Canaan will move to a bench role on Wednesday with Ish Smith taking over as the Sixers' starting PG.

The two played almost identical minutes on Monday and a timeshare is likely, but the demotion does Canaan's fantasy outlook no favors -- he's averaged a mere 8.5 minutes in 17 games as a reserve. He's a solid value when starting but there isn't much upside for Canaan's owners if he's stuck behind Smith long-term.
Mar 18 - 5:27 PM

Isaiah Canaan logged just 23 minutes in the Sixers' 114-107 win over the Kings on Friday, scoring seven points on 3-of-9 shooting with one rebound, five assists and one trey.

Canaan is going to have his ups and downs but unless Brett Brown runs he and Ish Smith (10 points, five rebounds, nine assists, 3-of-11 FGs, 25 minutes) in a strict timeshare he's all but guaranteed of holding late-round value at a minimum. That was the case tonight but it hasn't been thus far, and he should be held across the board.
Mar 13 - 11:05 PM

Isaiah Canaan will start against the Kings on Friday night.

He came off the bench on Wednesday because he was recovering from an illness. Coach Brett Brown has said before he likes Canaan as a starter and we expect him to start as long as he's healthy. He scored 20 points on Wednesday and is worth owning in standard leagues.
