Dennis Schroder (ankle) will be re-evaluated in a few days.
He tweaked his ankle on Thursday and the Hawks held him out of practice. Teams are usually overly cautious during the preseason, so there's no reason to be concerned just yet. Schroder is poised for a career year as the full-time starting PG in Atlanta. Sep 30 - 9:28 AM

Dennis Schroder (ankle) did not practice on Thursday.

The severity of the injury is currently unclear, but it's worth noting that Schroder has been very durable through the first three years of his career, and he hasn't dealt with any serious ankle injuries. We'll be closely monitoring this situation, but if the injury is bad enough to force Schroder to miss any time, that would open up some opportunity for Jarrett Jack (knee surgery) and Malcolm Delaney. Stay tuned.

Thabo Sefolosha believes that Dennis Schroder will be "great" during his first year as the Hawks' full-time starting point guard.

"Dennis has an incredible talent," Sefolosha said. "He’s going to be great. He’s going to be the point guard. It’s going to be tough. I think we are all going to help him. I think it’s a tough position to be so young and to have so much on your shoulders. I think it’s going to be on all of us to help him." Consistency will likely be an issue for the 23-year-old, but he could also be in for a career-year as Atlanta's future point guard. There's nothing wrong with taking him towards the later rounds.

Kris Humphries said the Hawks expect Dennis Schroder to elevate his game to another level next season.

With Jeff Teague now in Indiana, Schroder will open the 2016-17 season as the unquestioned starting PG. "I think Coach [Mike Budenholzer] and all of us teammates expect him to bring his game to another level now that he’s getting the opportunity that he’s wanted," Humphries said. Schroder averaged 13.7 points, 3.8 boards, 5.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.5 triples on 38.8 percent shooting in six starts last season, but it will be interesting to see how he fares as the full-time starter in Atlanta.

Dennis Schroder will not play for Team Germany this summer.

Schroder will enter the 2016-17 season as Atlanta's starting point guard, so it sounds like he'll use the time he has during the offseason to make sure he's fresh and fully prepared for taking on a much larger role in Atlanta. Through six starts last season, Schroder posted averages of 13.7 points, 3.8 boards, 5.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.5 triples on 38.8 percent shooting. He'll be a high-upside guy to take towards the later rounds on draft day.
Jul 27 - 10:07 AM

The Hawks are "planning to negotiate" a potential contract extension with Dennis Schroder, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

With Jeff Teague having been moved to the Pacers, the runway is clear for Dennis "The Jet" Schroder to take off. In other words: Nintendo DS is about to be lit. Schroder has no real current competition for playing time at the position, though Atlanta should be expected to sign a veteran backup to serve behind their new starter. Schroder is a per-minute monster, averaging 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 7.8 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.7 3PM and 4.1 turnovers per 36 minutes during the 2015-16 campaign.
Jun 27 - 9:08 AM

Dennis Schroder is expected to see a big bump in playing time with Jeff Teague traded to the Pacers.

With Teague gone and the Hawks only getting the No. 12 pick back, Schroder should be looking at minutes in the upper 30s. Plus, this move makes it slightly less likely Al Horford is returning. Schroder put up a 31.6 usage rate in the postseason and was heavily involved while he was out there. In his six starts during the season, Schroder averaged 13.7 points, 3.8 boards, 5.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.5 treys on 38.8 percent from the field. He's not a great shooter, but Schroder should post huge stats for DFS and points leagues.
Jun 22 - 2:37 PM

Dennis Schroder will play for Germany this summer in the Eurobasket qualifiers.

On top of the extra work this summer, Schroder has a chance for a bigger role with the Hawks next year. The Hawks and 76ers are reportedly discussing a deal centered around Nerlens Noel and Jeff Teague. Schroder is a bit of a bull in a china shop, so he'll have to adapt to being less of a mistake-prone guard.

Jun 8 - 3:41 PM

Dennis Schroder said that he wants to come back stronger next season, and he'll be spending time this offseason working to become a better finisher at the rim.

"I'll try to be stronger next year and dunk some more balls," Schroder said. "I've got to be better finishing at the rim." Schroder also confirmed that he will be playing for the German National Team again this offseason, as he tries to help the team qualify for the European Championship. Schroder's fantasy value next year will hinder on what happens with Jeff Teague, but if Teague ends up getting traded, Schroder would make for an intriguing late-round gamble in standard leagues.
May 25 - 11:50 AM

Dennis Schroder expressed his desire to be a starting point guard in the future.

While Jeff Teague is still standing in his way, he is also entering the last year of his contract and a trade would open the door for Schorder to start. "In the future, I want to be a starting point guard," Schroder said. "Everybody knows it. But I’m in the situation I was this year, I was fine with it. I played my minutes and I just tried to get better. When the coaching staff and everybody decides I get the team, I’m going to be ready for it." We'll keep an eye on this situation, but Schroder's fantasy value will see a huge boost if Teague is traded.
May 12 - 10:24 AM

Dennis Schroder is expected to play for the German national team this summer.

Schroder confirmed the expected during his exit interview. He also added that he'd like to be a starting point guard, but said that "when it comes, it comes." Unless Jeff Teague is jettisoned elsewhere, Schroder can't be expected to be an exciting fantasy asset next season. If Teague does wind up with a new team, Schroder's fantasy stock will skyrocket.
May 9 - 1:01 PM

Dennis Schroder was solid off the Hawks bench during Sunday's Game 4 loss to the Cavs, going 10-of-18 from the field on his way to 21 points, six assists, three boards, one 3-pointer, one block, two steals and two turnovers in 26 minutes.

Schroder was the point guard on the floor during crunch time and he was arguably the better point guard for Atlanta through their second-round series. It’ll be interesting to see what the Hawks do with their point guard situation this offseason, but if Schroder remains a reserve to Jeff Teague when the 2016-17 season kicks off, he won’t be worth much more than a late-round flier in standard leagues.
May 8 - 6:46 PM

Dennis Schroder played just 12 minutes against the Cavs on Friday, scoring eight points with two rebounds, four assists, two 3-pointers and two turnovers.

Jeff Teague played his best game of the series by far, so coach Mike Budenholzer went with his starter. Schroder still put up some decent stats in the limited playing time, which has been his calling card. He'll be risky the rest of the way.
May 6 - 9:44 PM

Dennis Schroder logged just 18 minutes off the bench on Wednesday, posting 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting with two rebounds, two assists and one turnover.

Schroder led the Hawks' comeback charge in Game 1 of the series but he never got the chance tonight, as Atlanta found themselves on the wrong side of a history-making 3-point barrage. There was no defense for many of the Cavs' 3-point makes in the first half, particularly from J.R. Smith, but the Hawks clearly need to adjust their defensive approach for Game 3. Expect a better showing from Schroder, Teague and Co. at home on Friday.
May 4 - 10:41 PM

Dennis Schroder scored a playoff career-high 27 points against the Cavs on Monday, adding three rebounds, six assists, five 3-pointers and five turnovers in 29 minutes.

Coach Mike Budenholzer went with Schroder in the fourth quarter due to his strong shooting in the first three quarters, but it kind of backfired. Schroder is one of the most Jekyll and Hyde players in the NBA due to how careless he can be at times. He likely won't play this much in Game 2 on Wednesday.
