Hawks GM Wes Wilcox said that he's hoping to extend Dennis Schroder's contract before the Oct. 31 deadline.
"It’s the deadline for both Dennis and Tim Hardaway Jr," Wilcox said. "We’ve had conversations with both representatives. It’s too difficult to say if something will get done and those conversations, as always, we keep internal. But yes, we’ve had conversations with both." The Hawks traded away Jeff Teague to give Schroder the keys to the offense, and considering they only have two PGs on their 15-man roster, they must be comfortable with him as their starter moving forward. He's worth a mid-round pick this season. Oct 22 - 10:24 AM

Dennis Schroder said he's not feeling pressure as the new starting point guard.

"They say it’s my team," Schroder said. "I’m the point guard. For me, pressure is not really there because I’ve got so many guys who play on a [high] level." He's looked fine in the preseason and has even assisted Dwight Howard eight times during the preseason. We did see coach Mike Budenholzer put him in the doghouse for guys like Shelvin Mack, but Schroder seems to be locked in for minutes in the mid 30s.
Oct 21 - 3:54 PM

Dennis Schroder scored 13 points vs. the Pelicans on Tuesday with five rebounds, five assists, one steal, one 3-pointer and three turnovers in 25 minutes.

One of the biggest concerns about Schroder is that he shot 42.1 percent from the field last season, but through four preseason games he's up to 45.9 percent. It's a small sample size, but he does look more confident. He should be able to clear 30 minutes per night this season as the full-time starter and it helps that Jarrett Jack (knee) won't be ready for the opener. If you're targeting assists, he's a nice mid-round option.
Oct 18 - 10:37 PM

Dennis Schroder, Kent Bazemore, Kyle Korver and Dwight Howard will all be rested for Sunday's exhibition matchup against the Magic.

It's just an off-day for the veterans for Sunday's meaningless game. Expect to see more Tim Hardaway Jr., Taurean Prince and Walter Tavares with the offense flowing through Paul Millsap while he's on the court.

The Hawks are taking a wait-and-see approach in regards to Dennis Schroder's contract situation.

The Hawks traded away Jeff Teague in order to give Schroder the keys to the offense, and even though they are obviously very high on him, they want to see how he looks as the full-time starter before beginning contract talks. The deadline for an extension is Oct. 31. He is averaging 10.6 points and 5.3 assists in 22.6 minutes through three preseason games.

Dennis Schroder played 29 minutes against the Pistons on Thursday, totaling 17 points, three rebounds, nine assists, one block and two 3-pointers.

It's by far his best game with preseason highs in every category except for steals. Schroder only plays 28.8 minutes per game in his six starts last year, but he should be able to clear 30 minutes this year. As long as you're OK with some sub-par shooting, Schroder should be a decent pick in the middle rounds.
Oct 13 - 11:38 PM

Dennis Schroder, Kent Bazemore, Kyle Korver, Kris Humphries and Dwight Howard will be in the starting lineup for Thursday's preseason game against the Pistons.

Head coach Mike Budenholzer said that his starters will play a bit more than the 22-23 minutes they played on Monday night, and that trend should continue as we get closer to the regular season. It'll be interesting to see if Schroder can get things going tonight with a more favorable matchup against the Pistons.

Dennis Schroder scored six points with two rebounds, four assists, one steal and one turnover in 22 minutes against the Cavs on Monday.

He's off to a slow start in his first two games, averaging 7.5 points, 2.5 boards, 3.5 dimes and 1.0 turnovers in 19.5 minutes per game. Schroder was limited with an ankle injury and will be eased back into his minutes. Schroder does have some upside in his new role, but he has to hit jumpers and take better care of the ball.
Oct 10 - 11:13 PM

Dennis Schroder (ankle) went through a full practice on Monday.

The Hawks did sign another point guard for camp, so it's good to hear Schroder is back to full participation. He's going to have to adapt more as a playmaker and may have to improve on his shooting. Schroder is likely going to have some field goal percentage issues, so it'll be tough for him to really break out in fantasy unless he can solve that problem.
Oct 3 - 3:29 PM

Dennis Schroder (ankle) will not participate in the Hawks' scrimmage on Saturday.

He's expected to be re-evaluated in the next couple days, and the good news is that the injury isn't considered serious. Jarrett Jack (knee) and Paul Millsap (knee) obviously won't play as well. Schroder should be considered day-to-day, while Jack and Millsap are week-to-week.
Oct 1 - 10:16 AM

Dennis Schroder (ankle) will be re-evaluated in a few days.

He tweaked his ankle on Thursday and the Hawks held him out of practice. Teams are usually overly cautious during the preseason, so there's no reason to be concerned just yet. Schroder is poised for a career year as the full-time starting PG in Atlanta.
Sep 30 - 9:28 AM

Dennis Schroder (ankle) did not practice on Thursday.

The severity of the injury is currently unclear, but it's worth noting that Schroder has been very durable through the first three years of his career, and he hasn't dealt with any serious ankle injuries. We'll be closely monitoring this situation, but if the injury is bad enough to force Schroder to miss any time, that would open up some opportunity for Jarrett Jack (knee surgery) and Malcolm Delaney. Stay tuned.
Sep 29 - 3:02 PM

Thabo Sefolosha believes that Dennis Schroder will be "great" during his first year as the Hawks' full-time starting point guard.

"Dennis has an incredible talent," Sefolosha said. "He’s going to be great. He’s going to be the point guard. It’s going to be tough. I think we are all going to help him. I think it’s a tough position to be so young and to have so much on your shoulders. I think it’s going to be on all of us to help him." Consistency will likely be an issue for the 23-year-old, but he could also be in for a career-year as Atlanta's future point guard. There's nothing wrong with taking him towards the later rounds.
Sep 13 - 4:04 PM

Kris Humphries said the Hawks expect Dennis Schroder to elevate his game to another level next season.

With Jeff Teague now in Indiana, Schroder will open the 2016-17 season as the unquestioned starting PG. "I think Coach [Mike Budenholzer] and all of us teammates expect him to bring his game to another level now that he’s getting the opportunity that he’s wanted," Humphries said. Schroder averaged 13.7 points, 3.8 boards, 5.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.5 triples on 38.8 percent shooting in six starts last season, but it will be interesting to see how he fares as the full-time starter in Atlanta.
Jul 30 - 12:11 PM

Dennis Schroder will not play for Team Germany this summer.

Schroder will enter the 2016-17 season as Atlanta's starting point guard, so it sounds like he'll use the time he has during the offseason to make sure he's fresh and fully prepared for taking on a much larger role in Atlanta. Through six starts last season, Schroder posted averages of 13.7 points, 3.8 boards, 5.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.5 triples on 38.8 percent shooting. He'll be a high-upside guy to take towards the later rounds on draft day.
