Scott Skiles has resigned as the head coach of the Orlando Magic.
Wow. This comes as a big surprise after just one year on the job. "After much thought and careful consideration, I and I alone, have come to the conclusion that I am not the right head coach for this team," said Skiles. "Therefore, effective immediately, I resign my position as head coach of the Orlando Magic." Skiles employed some interesting rotations during his Magic tenure and the next head coach will undoubtedly improve the fantasy prospects of the entire Magic roster. May 12 - 11:09 AM

The Magic are reportedly "swinging for the fences," and are looking to make a major move at the trade deadline.

Atlanta, Boston, Milwaukee and the Los Angeles Clippers have been mentioned as potential trade partners for Orlando, with the Magic are reportedly looking to land a star-type player such as Greg Monroe, Jeff Teague, Al Horford, David Lee or Blake Griffin. Orlando could also look to clear some cap room in order to chase a big name free agent this offseason, but it needs to be said that these reports are currently just in the rumor stage.

Coach Scott Skiles said he considered a lineup change, but his analytics show the team plays better with Channing Frye on the floor.

Oh really? In January, the Magic have a net rating 10.3 greater when Frye is off the court over when he's on the court. Plus, Aaron Gordon has fared much better when he's next to Tobias Harris than when Frye has been lately, too.

The Magic won't hold a shootaround on Monday, meaning potential lineup changes won't be announced until closer to tipoff.

Orlando visits Detroit at 7:30 PM ET, so we should have some insight about 90 minutes prior to that. Aaron Gordon is a candidate to start in place of Channing Frye, while Victor Oladipo is sounding very likely to take over at point guard for a (recently) ineffective and injured Elfrid Payton (ankles). Those with Payton should hold tight, while Gordon should be plucked off of waiver wires where he's available and the window to buy low on Oladipo is beginning to slam shut.

Scott Skiles said he might be considering another change to his starting lineup.

"We might, but I’m not sure yet. And I might be sure and I’m just telling you I’m not sure yet," Skiles said. In typical fashion, the head coach is revealing no insight, rhyme or reason into his rotations, but the likeliest change involves moving Channing Frye out of the first five. If Aaron Gordon claimed that spot, it would add significant appeal to his short-term fantasy outlook. Gordon shouldn't be on the wire in standard leagues. Victor Oladipo is a candidate to re-join the starting five in place of Elfrid Payton (ankles), as well.

Magic head coach Scott Skiles doesn't believe his team will have a set rotation any time soon.

"I don't think we have the type of team that's going to have a set rotation," Skiles said. "There isn't much difference between our starters and our bench players until people emerge." Skiles is quickly becoming a nightmare for fantasy owners because of his inconsistent rotations, and it will be hard for players such as Aaron Gordon and Mario Hezonja to produce with such sporadic roles off the bench.

Coach Scott Skiles said the Magic not defending Russell Westbrook on his game-tying shot was "totally unacceptable and not professional."

"He drove down, we weren’t aware, he banked a 3 in, tied the game while we’re celebrating," Skiles said. He might be right because Westbrook didn't face any pressure until he crossed the halfcourt line, and that was Nikola Vucevic. Skiles has a knack for putting guys in the doghouse, so he'll likely be looking for more mistakes.

Coach Scott Skiles said when the Magic have the ball they will "push it right back at 'em and try to put 'em on their heels."

Skiles also said his team will press more, which should create more steals and an even faster tempo. The Magic have the athleticism to do this, which explains why we're bullish on guys like Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon and Tobias Harris.

General manager Rob Hennigan said the Magic could move back in the draft.

"I would say we've talked to at least a half-dozen teams about it," Hennigan said. "So it's something we're definitely considering and weighing sincerely: potentially moving back." The Magic hold the fifth pick in the draft and that pick could held a big return, especially if Kristaps Porzingis falls that far.

New Magic Coach Scott Skiles is excited by the potential of the Magic backcourt.

Our backcourt — and I'm going to put Evan [Fournier] in that group with Elfrid [Payton] and Victor [Oladipo] — in my opinion, has a ton of potential. I think those guys should be excellent defensively, and they will be," Skiles said. Skiles' decision to include Fournier with Payton and Oladipo is certainly interesting, and the latter two should be able to separate themselves pretty quickly.

Scott Skiles said that it isn't part of his philosophy to pamper star players.

When asked if coaches have to pamper players more these days, Skiles answered that he didn't think star treatment is necessary. "No, I don’t think so. Some of those terms, there’s big grey area in those terms," Skiles said. "I think what happens is a lot of the organizations might not have a real solid philosophy of the type of players they like and the type of workers." We'll have to wait and see how Skiles implements this philosophy, but players like Victor Oladipo, Nikola Vucevic, and Elfrid Payton will find out soon enough.

New Magic coach Scott Skiles wants his players to earn their minutes.

"What you have to do is develop them," Skiles said. "Under the umbrella of developing guys comes a bunch of different things. Accountability is one of them." There will be no free handouts under Skiles' watch, and it's going to be very interesting to see how Orlando's extremely young nucleus meshes with the intense style that has become synonymous with Skiles' coaching.

Coach Scott Skiles said his goals are to be a top-five defensive team and to have a record above 0.500.

Skiles said he likes the team he has and mentioned rebuilding through the draft can be difficult. He said he's expecting his team to play with more energy due to the team's youth. He's also expecting Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton to be a top-five defensive backcourt. Tobias Harris has also kept in touch with Skiles since their Milwaukee days and that the coach was "instrumental" in drafting him. We'll have more on Skiles throughout the summer. Most importantly, Skiles had a "playoffs?!" homage to Jim Mora in his press conference.

The Magic and Scott Skiles have agreed to a four-year deal.

The Magic were expected to make a run at Tom Thibodeau, but they're all set with their former point guard who holds the NBA record for most assists in a game. Skiles hasn't run the tightest rotation and former player Stephen Jackson said he's "more of a college coach." Regardless, the Magic could use a former player to give them some guidance. Victor Oladipo and Nikola Vucevic are safe to draft, but we're slightly less bullish on the others due to the volatile rotation.

The Magic have reportedly begun contract negotiations with Scott Skiles, and they hope to come to terms on a deal by Friday evening.

Skiles has long been rumored to be the frontrunner for the Orlando head coaching gig, so this report is far from shocking. He will obviously no longer be in the running for New Orleans’ head coaching opportunity, meaning Alvin Gentry and Jeff Van Gundy come to the forefront, with Tom Thibodeau serving as a bit of a dark horse candidate (although Thibs is said to be uninterested). Skiles isn't a fantasy friendly coach, so owners of Orlando players may be in for a bumpy ride next season.
