General manager Rob Hennigan said the Magic could move back in the draft.
"I would say we've talked to at least a half-dozen teams about it," Hennigan said. "So it's something we're definitely considering and weighing sincerely: potentially moving back." The Magic hold the fifth pick in the draft and that pick could held a big return, especially if Kristaps Porzingis falls that far. Jun 22 - 7:25 PM

New Magic Coach Scott Skiles is excited by the potential of the Magic backcourt.

Our backcourt — and I'm going to put Evan [Fournier] in that group with Elfrid [Payton] and Victor [Oladipo] — in my opinion, has a ton of potential. I think those guys should be excellent defensively, and they will be," Skiles said. Skiles' decision to include Fournier with Payton and Oladipo is certainly interesting, and the latter two should be able to separate themselves pretty quickly.

Scott Skiles said that it isn't part of his philosophy to pamper star players.

When asked if coaches have to pamper players more these days, Skiles answered that he didn't think star treatment is necessary. "No, I don’t think so. Some of those terms, there’s big grey area in those terms," Skiles said. "I think what happens is a lot of the organizations might not have a real solid philosophy of the type of players they like and the type of workers." We'll have to wait and see how Skiles implements this philosophy, but players like Victor Oladipo, Nikola Vucevic, and Elfrid Payton will find out soon enough.

New Magic coach Scott Skiles wants his players to earn their minutes.

"What you have to do is develop them," Skiles said. "Under the umbrella of developing guys comes a bunch of different things. Accountability is one of them." There will be no free handouts under Skiles' watch, and it's going to be very interesting to see how Orlando's extremely young nucleus meshes with the intense style that has become synonymous with Skiles' coaching.

Coach Scott Skiles said his goals are to be a top-five defensive team and to have a record above 0.500.

Skiles said he likes the team he has and mentioned rebuilding through the draft can be difficult. He said he's expecting his team to play with more energy due to the team's youth. He's also expecting Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton to be a top-five defensive backcourt. Tobias Harris has also kept in touch with Skiles since their Milwaukee days and that the coach was "instrumental" in drafting him. We'll have more on Skiles throughout the summer. Most importantly, Skiles had a "playoffs?!" homage to Jim Mora in his press conference.
May 29 - 6:37 PM

The Magic and Scott Skiles have agreed to a four-year deal.

The Magic were expected to make a run at Tom Thibodeau, but they're all set with their former point guard who holds the NBA record for most assists in a game. Skiles hasn't run the tightest rotation and former player Stephen Jackson said he's "more of a college coach." Regardless, the Magic could use a former player to give them some guidance. Victor Oladipo and Nikola Vucevic are safe to draft, but we're slightly less bullish on the others due to the volatile rotation.
May 29 - 4:41 PM

The Magic have reportedly begun contract negotiations with Scott Skiles, and they hope to come to terms on a deal by Friday evening.

Skiles has long been rumored to be the frontrunner for the Orlando head coaching gig, so this report is far from shocking. He will obviously no longer be in the running for New Orleans’ head coaching opportunity, meaning Alvin Gentry and Jeff Van Gundy come to the forefront, with Tom Thibodeau serving as a bit of a dark horse candidate (although Thibs is said to be uninterested). Skiles isn't a fantasy friendly coach, so owners of Orlando players may be in for a bumpy ride next season.

Scott Skiles interviewed with the Pelicans this week.

He is considered as the favorite to take over as the next Magic head coach, but these interviews could also be used as a catalyst for the Bulls to fire Tom Thibodeau. If Skiles' next run as a coach is anything it was with the Bucks, fantasy owners are going to be extremely annoyed with his rotation.
May 27 - 11:11 PM

Scott Skiles will be named the next head coach of the Orlando Magic this week, according to Peter Vecsey.

We'll wait for an official announcement before we mark this news as official, but Skiles has been considered the frontrunner for the job and looks to be Orlando-bound. We'll keep this item updated as soon as more information is available, but it looks like the Magic may have their next head coach.
May 26 - 11:24 AM

According to Yahoo Sports, Scott Skiles has emerged as the frontrunner to become the next head coach of the Orlando Magic.

Tom Thibodeau has also been in the mix, but the Magic are reportedly unwilling to offer any compensation to acquire him. Orlando isn't going to rush into a decision, but they could start contract negotiations very soon. If Skiles does get the job, it will be interesting to see how Tobias Harris reacts considering the two didn't have the best relationship when they were in Milwaukee together. We will pass along any further details when we know more.
May 23 - 11:40 AM

Jeff Van Gundy believes Scott Skiles would be a good fit for the head coaching vacancy in Orlando.

"Scott Skiles to me is one of the most underrated coaches in the NBA," said Van Gundy. "People always talk about how he wears his teams out, but I've never believed that. Great players embrace coaching. When Scott was in Phoenix, he turned them around quickly. When he was in Chicago, he took over a team that had been down for a long, long period of time and he turned it and he turned it quickly." Skiles isn't a fantasy friendly coach, but he appears to be in the running for the Orlando job.
May 15 - 12:46 PM

The Orlando Magic have reportedly had internal discussions about bringing in Scott Skiles as the team's next head coach.

The Magic will reportedly move on from interim head coach James Borrego and begin their coaching search now that the 2014-15 regular season is over. Skiles has a leg up as a former player and fan favorite, but the Magic are also reportedly interested in Tom Thibodeau, Billy Donovan, and Mike Malone.

Scott Skiles has been mentioned as potential candidate to replace Jacque Vaughn as head coach of the Orlando Magic.

Skiles would make some sense for the Magic as a former player for the team and there is a good chance that Skiles or another candidate will be named as the new Orlando head coach during the All-Star Break. James Borrego will serve as interim head coach for the time being, but whoever gets the job almost can't help but increase the fantasy value of Orlando's young players like Elfrid Payton, Tobias Harris, Kyle O'Quinn, and Aaron Gordon.

Scott Skiles has not been contacted by the Timberwolves about their head coaching vacancy, according to his agent Keith Glass.

"I’ve had zero conversations with the Timberwolves," Glass said. After missing out on Grizzles coach Dave Joerger, the T-Wolves are back in the market for a new head coach. Skiles does have a winning coaching record (443-433) during his 13-year tenure as an NBA head coach, but does not seem to be in the running for the Minnesota job. Fantasy owners can rest easy for now since it doesn't look like Skiles' messy rotations will be making a comeback just yet.

Scott Skiles is the frontrunner for the vacant Nets head coaching vacancy, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

The report comes from legendary columnist Dave D'Alessandro, so we're inclined to take this one with some truth behind it. Skiles was reported to be on the Nets radar previously, but D'Alessandro elevates that to deeming Skiles the "frontrunner." After the way his tenure ended in Milwaukee, if Skiles is hired by Brooklyn, we'd expect there to be plenty of questions regarding how he will approach the team.
