Mike Muscala underwent nose surgery on Wednesday.
The surgery was to correct Muscala's broken nose and his recovery timetable is set at just 2-weeks, so he's in no danger of missing training camp. Muscala is a nice guy to target in daily leagues on the days that Mike Budenholzer elects to rest his starters, but with regular-season averages of just 4.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, he's no where near being a viable option in standard fantasy leagues. Mike Muscala started the second half of Game 3 for the Hawks after Al Horford's ejection, but he finished scoreless with one assist, one personal foul and no other stats to his credit in nine minutes.

Muscala's emergence in the rotation had led to DNP-CDs for Mike Scott (eight points, nine rebounds) in the playoffs, but the script has flipped in Games 2 & 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Muscala was ineffective in his limited minutes tonight and he's unlikely to play a major role on Tuesday unless the league decides that Al Horford's elbow-drop is worthy of a suspension.
May 25 - 12:24 AM

Mike Muscala saw some increased minutes during the Hawks' second-round series against the Wizards, although head coach Mike Budenholzer would not say if he would alter his rotations for the Eastern Conference Finals.

"Mike Muscala has played well and he’ll continue to get opportunities," Budenholzer said. "We’ll just see the game, feel the game, and the series and try to find a mixture to give ourselves our best chance with our bigs." After only playing in one game during Atlanta's first-round series, Muscala became a regular part of the rotation in the second-round, largely at the expense of Pero Antic. Muscala is a quality reserve for the Hawks, but on a good night he's only getting roughly 15 minutes, which isn't enough time to put up any meaningful stats in fantasy hoops.
May 19 - 5:05 PM

Mike Muscala started again on Monday against the Knicks, scoring just two points on 1-of-2 shooting with three rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks in 25 minutes.

It's not the worst line but owners would probably like some more scoring and rebounds. He's done enough to stay relevant in standard leagues and it wouldn't be shocking to see the Hawks' studs rested for Wednesday's game against the Bulls.
Apr 14 - 3:32 AM

Mike Muscala was relatively quiet in Sunday's fill-in start for Paul Millsap (shoulder), finishing a road loss with five points, one 3-pointer, four rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes.

In six previous starts this season, Muscala was averaging 11.3 points, 0.5 threes, 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 0.8 blocks in just 25 minutes per game. That's worth keeping in mind next year but his outlook during the Hawks' final two games hinges upon the status of Millsap, who is considered day-to-day. Check for updates after Monday's shootaround before locking Muscala into your lineups.
Apr 12 - 8:49 PM

Mike Muscala hit 8-of-9 shots for 17 points, six rebounds and one 3-pointer in Friday's blowout win over the Hornets.

Muscala has zig-zagged his way to some low-end value over the last month, with top 140-175 value (9/8 cat) in just 16.6 mpg. He's been much better than that recently as his playing time has spiked, and looking forward he should see much more than the aforementioned sample. Look for some efficient shooting, rebounding and the occasional 3-pointer. In the next three games he should probably be worth starting.
Apr 11 - 12:25 AM

Mike Muscala started again for Paul Millsap (shoulder) on Wednesday, but hit 4-of-6 shots for nine points, one rebound, two assists, two steals and a block in 24 minutes.

He was great on Tuesday with 16 points and a full stat line, and while his scoring wasn't there tonight (he also missed both 3-point attempts), he was still able to fill up the stat sheet. Millsap could be back for their next one on Friday and if it happens, Muscala's short run will probably come to an end.
Apr 8 - 10:46 PM

Mike Muscala will earn another start at PF on Wednesday with Paul Millsap resting his bruised and sprained shoulder.

Muscala is coming off a nice game with 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals and one block in just 26 minutes. He's unlikely to have quite as much success against the Nets on Wednesday, but remains a solid plug-and-play option until Millsap returns to health. Mike Scott will also earn extra playing time off the bench and he's worth a glance from owners targeting points and 3-pointers.
Apr 8 - 6:12 PM

Hawks PF Mike Muscala filled in for Paul Millsap (shoulder) on Tuesday, notching 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting with seven rebounds, four steals and one block in 26 minutes.

Muscala is averaging 14.2 points, 9.8 boards and 1.4 blocks on a per-36-minute basis this season, and he's a nice pickup with Millsap's return date uncertain. Owners looking for value in Millsap's absence should also keep an eye on Mike Scott, who came off the bench for seven points, one 3-pointer, six boards and one steal in 26 minutes.
Apr 7 - 10:05 PM

Mike Muscala will be in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game vs. the Suns with Paul Millsap (shoulder) unavailable.

Through three games with the starting unit, Muscala has put in averages of 8.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 0.7 three-pointers per game. He'll have a tough matchup against the Suns tonight, making him a risky plug-and-play option in daily leagues.
Apr 7 - 5:55 PM

Mike Muscala started the second half against the Nets on Saturday with seven points, two assists and one 3-pointer.

Paul Millsap (shoulder) is almost certainly going to miss time and there's almost no chance he plays on Wednesday in a road game. The last time the Hawks sat their starters, Muscala went off for 18 points and 10 boards. He's a good bet for at least two good games this week (Wednesday and Sunday) while he could see at least one or two more in a his four-game week.
Apr 4 - 10:56 PM

Mike Muscala took advantage of extra playing time on Tuesday with six points, 13 rebounds (six offensive) and one assist in 24 minutes.

The big man from Bucknell set a new career-high with the 13 boards. He's a sketchy fantasy option in the Hawks' final seven games, though the likelihood of DNP-CDs for Al Horford and Paul Millsap at least put him on the radar for fill-in value. We'll let you know if and when he's worth considering as a flier.
Mar 31 - 10:07 PM

Mike Muscala had career highs with 18 points and 10 rebounds against the Hornets on Saturday, adding four assists, one steal, two blocks and two 3-pointers in 34 minutes.

He showed off the full arsenal tonight with a lot of mid-range, some back-to-the-basket stuff and decent defense. Muscala will likely have another start headed his way on Tuesday when the Hawks are on the road in Detroit, so give him a look at any depth in daily leagues for his back-to-back to start next week.
Mar 28 - 9:25 PM

Hawks recalled C Mike Muscala from the D-League.

If you blinked, you probably missed the fact that he was even sent down.
Mar 2 - 1:13 PM

Mike Muscala was assigned to the NBA D-League on Sunday.

He is not currently in the rotation in Atlanta and isn't likely going to have any fantasy value this season. Leave Muscala on the wire.
