Mike Muscala knows that he'll have some increased opportunity for minutes this upcoming season with Paul Millsap and Dwight Howard no longer in Atlanta.
"I think there is going to be an opportunity but there is still time in free agency and time for rosters to change across the league," said Muscala. "It’s definitely going to be a different team. For me personally and the guys who are on the squad it’s going to be a good opportunity." If the Hawks don't make any other major acquisitions during free agency, Muscala could realistically open the year as Atlanta's starting center. Per-36 minutes last season, he averaged 12.7 points, 7.0 boards, 1.3 triples and 1.2 blocks per game, so Muscala could make for a sneaky late-round flier on draft day. Jul 10 - 3:34 PM

Mike Muscala has agreed to re-sign with Atlanta on a two-year, $10 million deal.

The second year of the contract is a player option. With Paul Millsap now in Denver, Muscala will likely see a significant increase in playing time next season. In fact, depending on what the Hawks do the rest of the summer to flesh out their roster, there is a chance Muscala will be Atlanta's starting power forward on opening night next season. If so, he'll be expected to post career-highs across the board and will have sneaky value as a late-round sleeper in standard leagues.
Jul 7 - 1:12 PM

Mike Muscala said he would like to re-sign with the Hawks this summer.

The 25-year-old center should draw a lot of interest on the open market and had a decent season in Atlanta with averages of 6.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.6 blocks and 0.7 triples in 17.7 minutes per game. As for his offseason plans, Muscala said he wants to improve his strength, shooting and versatility. Unless the Hawks are unable to re-sign Paul Millsap, a move away from Atlanta would likely boost Muscala's fantasy appeal.

May 1 - 10:50 AM

Mike Muscala scored 13 points with six rebounds, five assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 23 minutes against the Cavs on Friday.

It's been a while since Muscala had a big-time impact, but he had a massive opportunity with Dwight Howard and Paul Millsap getting a scheduled day off. If that happens again, keep him in mind.
Apr 7 - 10:37 PM

Mike Muscala scored nine points with one rebound, two assists and three 3-pointers in 18 minutes against the Bulls on Saturday.

Before Paul Millsap (knee) was hurt, Muscala was basically out of the rotation because the Hawks were living on the small-ball lineups late. Muscala should be losing minutes soon.
Apr 1 - 8:25 PM

Mike Muscala played eight minutes with two points and three rebounds against the Blazers on Saturday.

Even with Paul Millsap out, Muscala still couldn't get decent run with the Hawks going smaller in this game.
Mar 18 - 8:24 PM

Mike Muscala did not score in three minutes against the Magic on Saturday with two assists.

The Ersan Ilyasova deal takes away just about any chance Muscala has to get power forward minutes. If you used him as a deep option in fantasy, it's probably time to move on.
Feb 25 - 9:38 PM

Mike Muscala scored five points with four rebounds, two assists, one block and one 3-pointer against the Magic on Saturday.

He looks to have his role of around 20 minutes with Kris Humphries getting the garbage time center minutes. Muscala played 20 minutes on Thursday and he's also found his shot, making 50 percent from three in January. He's really just a low-upside deep league player.
Feb 4 - 9:25 PM

Mike Muscala (ankle) is probable to play on Sunday against the Knicks.

Friday was his first game back from an ankle sprain that kept him out since Jan. 15. He received some stitches late in Friday's game, but did not return. The game was a blowout and there was no reason to put Muscala out there. He was playing well in that game with eight points, two boards, two blocks and two 3-pointers, but leave him on the wire in most leagues.
Jan 28 - 2:13 PM

Mike Muscala received stitches for a cut on his chin on Friday night.

He's had some bad luck after missing the last two weeks due to his ankle sprain. Muscala cooled off after his great start and has lost his shot a bit lately. Although, he had it going today, making 3-of-5 from the field with two treys for eight points with two boards, two assists and two blocks in 14 minutes. Just keep an eye on him in deep leagues.
Jan 27 - 10:12 PM

Mike Muscala (ankle) will play Friday night against the Wizards.

Muscala will make his return to the lineup after missing six consecutive games dating back to Jan. 15. Muscala's return will eat into the extra minutes Kris Humphries and Mike Scott had been seeing in his absence.
Jan 27 - 7:09 PM

Mike Muscala (ankle) will be a game-time decision for Friday night's game against the Wizards.

Muscala has missed six consecutive games after injuring his ankle back on Jan. 15. Kris Humphries and Mike Scott are expected to continue to divvy up his minutes if Muscala is once again unavailable on Friday.
Jan 27 - 11:59 AM

Mike Muscala (ankle) is questionable for Friday against the Wizards.

He was listed as questionable for Wednesday's game, but he did not play. Muscala has been out since his injury on Jan. 15 after playing minutes in the low 20s. He was putting up value earlier in the season thanks to some fantastic efficiency, but he below 40 percent from the field in his previous 10 games before the injury. The Hawks actaully went small more often on Wednesday, so there really isn't a fantasy pickup to make here.
Jan 26 - 4:59 PM

Mike Muscala (ankle) is out for Wednesday against the Bulls.

The Hawks will continue to use Kris Humphries as the backup big man. Dwight Howard and Paul Millsap should still get heavy minutes against a strong rebounding Bulls frontcourt. Muscala could have value in deep leagues upon his return.
Jan 25 - 7:12 PM

Mike Muscala (ankle) will be a game-time call for Wednesday's matchup with the Bulls.

He'll go through his pregame routine before an official decision is made, although after having spent the past five games on the sidelines, he'll likely have a minutes cap if he is able to get out there. Muscala isn't a great fantasy option in most formats, but his return to action would cut into Kris Humphries and Mike Scott's minutes.
