The Kings hired NBA executive Chris Granger as their new team president on Wednesday.
As reported by Sam Amick, Granger was "heavily involved as league liaison" while the Kings fought (successfully) to approve a new arena deal and stay in Sacramento. He was the former executive VP of Team Marketing and Business Operations for the league, and his hiring represents another step away from the old Maloof regime. Wed, Jul 10, 2013 01:09:00 PM

Mike Bratz will join Pete D'Alessandro in the Kings front office as assistant GM, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Bratz will reunite with D'Alessandro after the two spent time together in Denver. The Kings have completely remade the front office under Vivek Ranadive and it's for the better.

Mike Malone says his father, Brendan Malone, will join his coaching staff with the Kings.

You may remember Brendan Malone as the first coach of the expansion Raptors. He also had a brief run as the interim coach in Cleveland before the Mike Brown era began. Brendan Malone most recently served as an assistant to Stan Van Gundy with the Magic. He'll now join former Ohio State assistant Chris Jent on Mike Malone's first NBA coaching staff.

The Kings have reached an agreement with Pete D'Alessandro to be their general manager, according to Yahoo! Sports.

D'Alessandro was the VP for the Denver Nuggets, who lose yet another key guy in their front offices. The Kings were even rumored to have interest in TNT's Kenny Smith for their GM position, but D'Alessandro has a solid track record and should help the Kings improve. Sam Amick previously reported that Nets assistant GM Bobby Marks would follow D'Alessandro if he landed the Kings job, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Spurs assistant GM Scott Layden is a candidate for the Kings GM job, a source told ESPN's Marc Stein.

The Kings GM search includes seemingly every name under the sun, and it's not clear when the team might ultimately make its hire. Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace was previously reported as the favorite, but the race seems wide open at this point.

TNT's Kenny Smith could join the Kings front office as the team's general manager.

Smith acknowledged he's been "talking" with Vivek Ranadive, but it's hard to see how he'd be an inspirational choice as the first GM in the Ranadive era. "That's all I'm going to say," Smith said. Ranadive has now spoken with Larry Bird, Chris Wallace, Travis Schlenk, Mike Dunlevay, David Morway and plans to interview Pete D'Alessandro as well. Sacramento is casting a wide net in its search to revamp the front office.

The Nuggets have granted permission to the Kings to speak with Pete D'Alessandro.

D'Alessandro is the VP of basketball operations for the Nuggets and he's a candidate to take over as the Sacramento GM. The Kings were able to get their coach in Mike Malone and they would obviously like to come to terms with a GM before the draft. Brooklyn assistant GM Bobby Marks could also join D'Alessandro in Sacramento.

Updating a previous item, Chris Jent will join Mike Malone's staff in Sacramento.

Jent spent some time at Ohio State since 2011 before assisting with the Cavs and he has been known for his emphasis in shooting. He's received some credit for improving LeBron James' jumper to top his resume, which couldn't hurt Sacramento. The Kings ranked 27th on jumpers from 16-23 feet and Tyreke Evans' 31.3 percent on all of his jumpers needs some work, too.

The Kings have offered Ohio State assistant Chris Jent a three-year deal to serve as Mike Malone's top assistant, sources tell Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

Jent has been on Thad Matta's staff since 2011. Before joining the Buckeyes, Jent was an assistant with the Cavaliers where he worked with Malone. Jent's specialty is as a shooting instructor and he served as LeBron James' personal shooting coach while both were in Cleveland.

The Kings have requested permission to speak with Denver assistant GM Pete D'Alessandro for the Kings GM job.

D'Alessandro is considered an option to replace Masai Ujiri in Denver, but it appears he's a coveted man elsewhere as well. It's not clear if the Nuggets will grant permission or not, and it's possible they won't after losing Ujiri to Toronto already.

The Kings will interview David Morway for their general manager position, sources told USA Today.

Morway will join the "list of candidates still in the running," and it doesn't look like there is currently a frontrunner. Amick reports that if Morway were to get the job, it would not mean a reunion with Larry Bird because of how their time with the Pacers ended together. Other candidates include Chris Wallace, Travis Schlenk and Mike Dunleavy, who have all been interviewed already.

Kings owner Vivek Ranadive is meeting with Larry Bird on Wednesday about the team's general manager position, according to longtime NBA writer Peter Vecsey.

Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace was considered the frontrunner, but we imagine Bird would immediately jump to the top of Ranadive's list if he were interested. Vescey reports Bird is looking for an annual salary in the $5 million range and might also be seeking an ownership stake in the Kings. It's unknown how interested Bird really is in running a team other than the Pacers, but a meeting with the owner is a sign he's at least curious about the position. Although, Bird could also being this to create leverage with the Pacers and up his asking price to return to Indian's front office. The Kings are reportedly also interested in speaking to Chris Mullin and Mike Dunleavy about the opening.

The Kings will introduce Mike Malone as the team's new head coach on Monday afternoon.

A press conference is scheduled for 1:30 to introduce Malone. Although the team is still without a general manager, Sacramento will conduct pre-draft workouts prior to Malone's introduction. Malone identified four principles as to how the Kings will form an identity: defense, rebounding, running with discipline and valuing/sharing the basketball. He sounds up to the challenge.

The NBA has set a deadline for the Kings' new ownership group to build an arena in Sacramento.

The exact date for the deadline isn't known, but Stern told the Sacramento Bee that Vivek Ranadive and his partners must meet "a series of benchmarks" for the new arena or risk losing the Kings to another city. Some Kings fans might be concerned about having to go through another battle for their team, but this is likely nothing more than a thinly-veiled threat to the city of Sacramento to deliver on its promise of getting a new arena built for the team. The Bee reports that Ranadive's group was well aware of the deadlines and agreed to them in writing, which is as much about protecting their investment as it is making sure Sacramento doesn't drag its heels. Rotoworld's Aaron Bruski is the man to follow for all things related to the Kings and their ownership saga.

Kings owner Vivek Ranadive recently felt out Larry Bird's interest in Sacramento's general manager job, sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

ESPN reported Friday that Chris Wallace had become the early top contender in the search, but sources told Stein that Ranadive is still interested in making a splashy hire. Unfortunately for the Kings, Stein also reports that if Bird does return to the NBA it's expected to be in the Pacers' front office, where he was amicably replaced by Donnie Walsh. Ranadive's hiring of Mike Malone as coach is also a hindrance to landing a big-name front office executive, who would likely want to choose his own head coach. The Kings are also expected to interview Mike Dunleavy for the GM position.
