Coach Mike Malone said the Nuggets "could have a lot of small ball" on Monday against the Heat.
The Nuggets have gone small in bunches at times, including a game back on Mar. 6 with Will Barton getting 12 minutes at power forward in the fourth quarter and overtime. If Jusuf Nurkic (knee) and Joffrey Lauvergne (face) are out, expect to see a number of players step up. Mar 14 - 2:14 PM

Mike Malone shredded his Nuggets team following Sunday's blowout loss to Boston.

"It was a lack of fight, a lack of togetherness," Malone said. "Coming out of the break our defense is still somewhere down in the Caribbean. It’s non-existent and then the selfishness on both ends of the floor, and the quit that we showed tonight — that’s not who we’ve been." Malone is likely just attempting to motivate his young Nuggets team, so there is no real takeaway from this one.

Tim Connelly has reportedly agreed to a multi-year extension with the Nuggets.

Connelly has made some nice moves in Denver, drafting Jusuf Nurkic and nabbing Will Barton in the Arron Afflalo trade. He also sent away Ty Lawson this offseason in exchange for some low-end assets and a first-round pick, which is probably more than what Ty would go for now. Connelly's entire front office staff also reportedly received multi-year extensions.

Coach Mike Malone lit into the Nuggets, saying Denver is "just a bad team right now."

"I thought we had no energy, no effort, very flat," Malone said. "As a coach, I can't coach effort. We're just a bad team right now." He didn't just stop there, either. "We have ver few guys that can defend and that makes it hard every night," Malone added. It's clear Malone isn't happy, but it's not like he can make sweeping changes as the roster is what it is.

Coach Mike Malone said the Nuggets have some guys on the team "that pick and choose when they play hard, and those guys aren't gonna play."

"You're going to play hard or you're going to sit," Malone said. "I don't care who you are." Malone was furious with his team giving up a ton of 3-pointers to blow a 17-point lead. "I must be speaking Chinese because these guys are not getting [how to defend 3-point shooters]," the coach said. He said he "didn't like the effort from a bunch of guys" in the game, so he's talking about a handful of players. The Nuggets get the Warriors on Sunday, so that'll be fun for their 3-point defense.

Mike Malone said he feels a sense of vindication over his firing in Sacramento.

Malone is now the head coach of the Nuggets, but he hasn't forgotten what happened in Sacramento. "Everything after I got fired in December only validated the job my staff was doing," Malone said. "Everything kind of went haywire after that, and in the end, it was a perfect scenario. By the end of it, I looked like John Wooden." Malone will inherit a young team in Denver, but his presence will provide players like Kenneth Faried with a fresh start.

According to general manager Tim Connelly, the Nuggets will be aggressive in trade talks as the NBA Draft draws closer.

"We want to be aggressive," Connelly said. "We're looking at any and all scenarios, and we've already proactively made a lot of those calls. We'll see what we can do to make it interesting and hopefully give Coach (Mike Malone) the best team possible." The Nuggets will have the No. 7 and No. 57 pick in the draft, but they will likely look at the possibility of adding another first-round pick. Ty Lawson and Kenneth Faried have been in the rumor mill for a while now, and the speculation will only heat up as we approach the draft.

Mike Malone hinted that there will be some changes to the current Denver roster by the time that training camp begins.

"The roster we have today is probably not the roster we have in training camp," said Malone. Ty Lawson and Kenneth Faried have heard their names float around the rumor mill for some time now, although Malone has already offered some praise for the way Faried plays, so it seems like Lawson may be the more likely candidate to be sent away from the Nuggets organization. If the Nuggets go with a point guard in the 2015 NBA draft that could be a sign that Lawson's days in Denver are numbered.

The Nuggets have reached an agreement with Michael Malone to become their head coach.

While it seemed the Nuggets hiring Pete D'Alessandro would have hurt Malone's chances, PDA is not involved in the basketball operations. Before DeMarcus Cousins had an illness in December, the Kings were one of the pleasant surprises in the NBA, but things went south quickly. Malone will take over for what looks to be a rebuilding Nuggets team.

Mike Malone's head coaching candidacy is picking up steam in Denver, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

Malone has reportedly positioned himself for a second interview with the Nuggets, but Stein also adds that there is a strong possibility that interim head coach Melvin Hunt could end up with the job. We'll keep an eye on this story, but it's starting to look like either Malone or Hunt will be coaching the Nuggets when training camp starts.

Mike Malone has reportedly earned himself a second interview for the head coaching position in Denver.

The Nuggets are looking to fill the head coaching position before the draft on June 25, and so far they have interviewed Melvin Hunt, Mike D'Antoni and Don Newman in addition to Malone. With Malone getting a second interview, it appears he's in serious consideration for the job, and this is a story will continue to follow closely.

Mike Malone interviewed with the Denver Nuggets about their head coaching vacancy on Tuesday.

Malone joins interim head coach Melvin Hunt and Mike D'Antoni on Denver's list of candidates as it looks like the Nuggets are getting closer to finding their next head coach. Though Malone was let go by the Kings during the 2014-15 season, he had the support of most of the locker room and would be a solid hire for the Nuggets.

The Nuggets have had conversations with Mike Malone about their head coaching vacancy.

It's not a formal interview just yet, but it could happen in the coming days. Malone's time in Sacramento went south all of the sudden, but he's part of the reason DeMarcus Cousins busted loose this year. He's a dark horse to take over in Denver.

The Kings have fired head coach Mike Malone, with assistant Tyrone Corbin taking over as the interim coach.

Malone reportedly "didn't meet win-loss expectations of ownership," after the Kings fell to 11-13 without DeMarcus Cousins for the past nine games. Corbin will be "afforded [the] chance" to coach the Kings all year, and he's expected to be push the team's pace at the insistence of owner Vivek Ranadive and GM Pete D'Alessandro. Our own Aaron Bruski reports that the Kings have had internal discussions about and will target George Karl. In addition, Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Vinny Del Negro may be a long-term candidate for the position.

Mike Malone would like his team to run a more team-oriented offense like the Spurs.

"The reality is we cannot come back and play the same way we played last year," Malone said. "Changes have to be made. And the fact that all three of those guys [Ray McCallum, Ben McLemore, and Nik Stauskas] who are going to play on our perimeter played unselfishly [during Summer League]... they’re moving, they’re attacking, they’re playing with pace. Those guys can help set the tone when our veterans come back in September." Malone has made it a point to emphasize ball-movement, and defense as the Kings try to improve on last year's record of 28-54.
