Jeff Van Gundy is no longer a candidate for the Rockets coaching job.
With JVG out of the picture, the coaching searches out there should move along. It's not surprising based on some of his comments during his broadcasts and he's likely going to stay in his current post for the foreseeable future. May 18 - 2:51 PM

The Rockets are interested in Jeff Van Gundy for their vacant head coach position, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Interim head coach J.B. Bickerstaff would seem to be out of the running as the Rockets will also interview Warriors assistant Luke Walton. We'll keep an eye on the situation in Houston, but as Wojnarowki said, the Rockets are "big game hunting."

When asked about his interest in the vacant Lakers coaching job, Jeff Van Gundy declined to provide an answer.

Van Gundy could have simply refused interest, but instead kept the window of opportunity open. Still, it's hard to envision JVG eventually winding up with the Lakers since Los Angeles is unlikely to give him what he desires—full organizational control—with Mitch Kupchak and Jim Buss calling the shots in L.A. At least we've got a new storyline to follow this offseason.

Jeff Van Gundy would "indeed be highly interested" in a return to coach the Rockets, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

There is almost no doubt that job would open up, especially if it meant picking up Van Gundy. J.B. Bickerstaff's Rockets had several chemistry issues and he never really solidified his rotation. The Rockets are likely to have some changes this summer.
Apr 20 - 4:45 PM

With the Timberwolves set to hire Tom Thibodeau as their next head coach, the Rockets reportedly now view Jeff Van Gundy as their top choice to take over the helm of the Rockets next season.

The Rockets are also equally high on Scotty Brooks, according to sources of Marc Stein, which would be an unfortunate hire in terms of fantasy hoops. It doesn't sound like Houston views J.B. Bickerstaff as a long-term head coaching solution.

Jeff Van Gundy is getting interest from the Wolves and Rockets.

He's right at the top of Houston's list for a new coach. Van Gundy has seemingly been a coaching candidate every summer, but he hasn't left his post as one of the better TV analysts. It would be interesting to see what would happen with Daryl Morey, as well. The Rockets look like they'll be making a number of changes.

The Pelicans had a formal interview with Jeff Van Gundy on Tuesday.

This was the first face-to-face meeting for JVG. If he's willing to leave his broadcasting gig, he'd likely compete with Alvin Gentry to coach Anthony Davis.

Jeff Van Gundy has emerged as a candidate for the Pelicans' open head coaching position according to ESPN.com.

Van Gundy joins Tom Thibodeau and Alvin Gentry as confirmed candidates for the job according to the report, with Gentry the only candidate known to be formally interviewed. Considering many thought Monty Williams was safe after making the playoffs, it makes sense that the franchise had some big names lined up after his somewhat surprising release. After all, coaching the Brow has its benefits.

The Pelicans are interested in former head coaches Jeff Van Gundy and Scott Brooks.

Basically every offseason there is a rumor about JVG and this year will be no different. Van Gundy has become one of the better color analysts in the NBA and chances are he'll stay there.

ESPN is reporting that Jeff Van Gundy could be tabbed by the Grizzlies to run the front office and coach the team next season.

Stan Van Gundy is already in a similar role in Detroit and it can't be denied that having both Van Gundy brothers in charge of NBA teams would be a fun endeavor. No word on whether JVG has interest, but this story is probably far from over.

In the unlikely event that Phil Jackson reached out to Jeff Van Gundy to fill the Knicks head coaching vacancy, Gundy said he would definitely listen.

Gundy has not been mentioned in any previous reports about Jackson's potential coaching candidates, but it is worth noting that he'd be interested. With Jackson essentially having to start over again in his search for a head coach after missing out on Steve Kerr there is going to be a lot of names flying around the rumor mill. Stay tuned.

The Nets have reportedly made preliminary contact with Jeff Van Gundy regarding their head coaching vacancy.

The Clippers are also gauging JVG's interest in returning to the sidelines. Selfishly, we hope neither opportunity turns into a reality. Van Gundy is among the most entertaining and knowledgeable color analysts in the business. He's been away from coaching since the 2006-07 season, when his Rockets lost in the first round of the playoffs after a 52-win season.

The Clippers have contacted Jeff Van Gundy to gauge his "preliminary sense of interest" in their vacant head coaching job, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Van Gundy hasn't said one way or the other whether or not he'd be willing to return as a coach next season after thriving in his current media role, but Adrian Wojnarowski reports those close to Van Gundy believe he is "open to considering a return to coaching for the right opportunity." Denver's George Karl is another candidate who has been "discussed" by the Clippers front office, though it sounds like that's a long shot.
