Gal Mekel is still hoping to latch onto an NBA team rather than sign a deal overseas.
"After I was released by New Orleans I received several offers from Europe and Israel," Mekel said in a statement. "I wanted to give them the respect they deserve and listen to them all...It is no secret that I really want to remain in the NBA and I believe with all my heart that I can succeed in this league. But I also really want to play, lead and realize my potential." His best bet to rejoin an NBA team is to sign a 10-day contract with a team in the hope that they will extend him for the rest of the season. Regardless, Mekel is still far off the fantasy radar and owners in standard leagues can ignore him with confidence. Wed, Dec 31, 2014 09:17:00 AM

Gal Mekel is reportedly considering heading back overseas after recently being waived by the Pelicans.

There is no question that he is a solid point guard, but he hasn't really been given a chance to succeed in the NBA. Mekel may latch back onto an NBA team in the future, but he is well off the fantasy radar for now.

The Pelicans have waived G Gal Mekel.

He played just four games for the Pelicans to go with averages of 1.5 points and 3.3 assists over 10.9 minutes of action. He may sign on with another team, but he's never going to be anything more than a reserve, and won't be worth owning in standard leagues.

Gal Mekel has reportedly signed a two-year, non-guaranteed deal with the Pelicans.

Mekel will fight for backup minutes with Jimmer Fredette and Russ Smith (who is currently on a D-league stint). In other words, he's not going to be worth owning in standard leagues.

The Pelicans are reportedly in advanced discussions to sign G Gal Mekel.

Mekel would join a crowded backcourt of Jrue Holiday, Jimmer Fredette, and Russ Smith, so his fantasy value would be bleak to say the least. Even if he signs, he won't be worth monitoring in standard leagues.

Gal Mekel is set to workout for the Lakers this week, after being waived by Dallas earlier in the season.

He was fantastic for the Mavericks, but they simply had too many point guards on their roster. If Mekel makes the team, he could potentially compete with Ronnie Price and Jordan Clarkson for the backup PG spot. Owners in deep leagues will want to monitor this situation closely, but he can be left on the waiver wire for now.

The Indiana Pacers' attempt to sign Gal Mekel has been put in jeopardy due to an issue with Mekel's visa.

The Pacers' hardship exemption expires on Thursday, so the procedural delay in Mekel obtaining his P-1 visa may scuttle the deal. With Indiana's backcourt depleted, the team may be forced to look elsewhere and A.J. Price seems to be the Pacers' first option if Mekel is unable to clear up his via issues before Thursday's game against the Celtics.

The Pacers are in the process of signing Gal Mekel.

It's a good fit for the Pacers. Coach Frank Vogel runs a lot of pick-and-rolls in his offense, so Mekel could be an interesting piece in the second unit. Of course, this news only affects very deep leagues. Donald Sloan owners should expect a minor decrease in production once Mekel gets acclimated with his new team, but Sloan will still likely start.

Mavericks waive Gal Mekel.

This was an expected move which clears the way for Dallas to sign J.J. Barea. Even if Mekel does land with another NBA team this season, he's not going to have fantasy value.

Gal Mekel will be released by the Mavericks.

The Mavericks tried to trade him, but it just didn't happen. Mekel might be picked up by a team like the Lakers or the Sixers.

Gal Mekel looked great in his second start of the preseason on Thursday with 17 points, two rebounds, eight assists and one 3-pointer in 42 minutes.

It sure would be fun to see Mekel on another team, but he's not likely to get minutes with the Mavericks. He can be ignored in most fantasy formats.

Gal Mekel started at point guard for the Mavericks and he did not disappoint by scoring 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting, while adding nine assists, two steals, two rebounds, and one 3-pointer.

The starters had the night off so Mekel got an extended look. Barring a trade, Mekel will not be worth owning in standard leagues as there are simply too many PGs on the Dallas roster.

The Mavs are looking to deal Gal Mekel in a trade.

He's basically their fifth point guard, which is a little superfluous to say the least. Mekel is a solid pick-and-roll point guard and is a crafty passer, but he hasn't excelled at the NBA level yet.

Gal Mekel skipped practice on Saturday to observe the Yom Kippur holiday.

He is the fourth point guard on the depth chart and will have a tough time getting minutes. Mekel is fun to watch, but he'll need a lot to happen in order to see regular playing time.

Gal Mekel put up a triple-double vs. Montenegro in EuroBasket qualifiers on Wednesday with 14 points, 11 boards and 10 assists.

He was impressive at Las Vegas Summer League and coach Rick Carlisle could play him at either guard spot in the regular season. Unfortunately, the Mavericks have some added depth in the backcourt and Devin Harris will enter the season healthy, so Mekel isn't worth drafting in most fantasy formats.
