Solomon Hill's odds of starting at SF for Indiana are improved by coach Frank Vogel's belief that Hill can become "an elite defender."
Vogel tabbed Hill as the guy who can replace Paul George's wing defense, and he emphasized that the Pacers are first and foremost a defensive team. "Offense will come later and we have weapons on offense to take care of that," he said, "but defensively we all have to be on the same page." It seems Hill has the edge on guys like C.J. Miles, Damjan Rudez and Chris Copeland, but it's way too early in the preseason to have a definitive answer. Oct 1 - 9:34 AM

Date:

Solomon Hill joined George Hill, Rodney Stuckey, David West and Roy Hibbert in part of Tuesday's practice.

C.J. Miles (calf) missed part of practice today, so this isn't a concrete report. However, Hill seems to be the favorite for minutes at small forward this season. He has a decent 3-point shot and made 39 percent from beyond the arc in each of his last two seasons at Arizona. If he can capitalize on his opportunity, Hill is a dark horse for production in his sophomore season and is a possible sleeper in standard formats.

Solomon Hill will change his jersey number from No. 9 to No. 44.

It's the same number he wore at the University of Arizona. Hill's playing time is on the rise due to the Pacers losing their two best players in the offseason, so he has a very good chance to play 20 minutes per night. He can shoot from distance and is capable of producing other stats, so he's on the radar as a sleeper pick.

Solomon Hill received high praise from Pacers head coach Frank Vogel.

Hill will see a major boost in playing time with Paul George (fractured leg) out for the season and Vogel expects big things out of the 23-year-old. "If he would have been playing 25 minutes a game last year, everyone would be talking about how good Solomon Hill is," Vogel said. Hill only averaged 1.7 points and 1.5 rebounds during his rookie season, but he could serve as a late-round steal in fantasy drafts if he continues to impress his head coach.
Aug 12 - 12:47 PM

Pacers SF Solomon Hill should earn a much bigger role with Paul George (fractured leg) expected to miss the entire 2014-15 season.

C.J. Miles is also in line for a major playing-time boost, and more playing time should also be available for guards Rodney Stuckey and C.J. Watson. Indiana is also eyeing MarShon Brooks at add depth on the wings, but it will take a group effort to plug the massive gap left in George's absence.
Aug 3 - 4:48 PM

Solomon Hill (ankle) will not play on Saturday.

He may have been looking at a bigger role in summer league, but it won't happen in the opener. Hill barely got off the bench in his rookie season and he wasn't even very active in summer league last year, so he'll look to get his NBA career off the ground as soon as his ankle heals.
Jul 5 - 9:47 AM

The Pacers are hopeful that Solomon Hill can step into a bigger role next season now that Danny Granger, Evan Turner and Rasual Butler are no longer under contract.

Larry Bird said that Hill still needs to work on his shot mechanics and "other things" before becoming a steady rotation player, but the Pacers are enamored with his defensive abilities. "I’m really excited about what Solomon Hill can do for us," said coach Frank Vogel. "I think if he was pushed into a situation where he had to play 15-20 minutes a game all year he could’ve been a difference in our playoff run. He’s got the ability to be an elite defender – an elite defender, not just an average defender."
Jun 25 - 11:01 AM

Pacers forward Solomon Hill hasn't been available for the past three games due to tightness and soreness in his back.

Hill's role is so small that his absence doesn't make a big impact for Indy, which he acknowledged in a recent interview. "It’s towards the end of the season and ... I was on the road to being inactive so it’s not like I’m in a super rush to force it to get back," he said. "I’d rather take my time and fully recover and make sure my back is 100 percent."

Pacers F Solomon Hill has been recalled from the D-League.

He averaged 19 points and 3.5 rebounds in a few appearances with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. With Danny Granger healthy there is no spot for Hill in the Pacers' rotation, and he doesn't have any fantasy appeal.

The Pacers have assigned Solomon Hill to the D-League.

The 6'7" small forward is averaging nine minutes in 16 appearances this season. His departure won't have any impact on fantasy rosters.

Solomon Hill could see time off the bench with the second unit on Tuesday.

It's a recent late development and it has a lot to do with Danny Granger (calf) set to miss possibly 4-6 weeks. Paul George will a lot of minutes at small forward, so Hill's minutes could be in the single digits. The rookie is still way off the radar while Lance Stephenson had an intriguing preseason and is worth a look in some formats.

Solomon Hill is still at the bottom of the depth chart for the Pacers, according to coach Frank Vogel.

"He's a rookie so he's at the very bottom of the depth chart for now," Vogel said. "But I don't anticipate he's going to stay there for long. [I've] just been very, very impressed with him. If he were called on and he had to be a big factor opening night, he would do very well. He's shown me a lot already." Hill had a nice summer, but he's nowhere near being on the fantasy radar.

Frank Vogel said that rookie F Solomon Hill looks "ready to contribute right away" for the Pacers.

Hill played well during the Orlando Summer League, averaging 12.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 48.9 percent from the field in under 30 minutes. Danny Granger (knee) is on pace to play in the Pacers opener, and if he's healthy Hill will be stuck as the third SF on the roster.

Solomon Hill shot 7-of-15 from the field for 15 points with four boards, three assists, three steals and one 3-pointer in 29 minutes against the Celtics.

He hit four 3-pointers on his way to a big 22-point, nine-board outing Monday and has looked the part of a first-round pick. The Pacers have a little depth on the wing as long as Danny Granger is healthy, so Hill will need a few things to happen to make a noteworthy impact in his rookie year.

Solomon Hill scored nine points with four boards, two assists, and one 3-pointer on 3-of-3 from the field in 25 minutes of action on Sunday.

He looked to have slimmed down a bit from his University of Arizona days and showed some nice agility on both ends of the floor. Hill played power forward for the Wildcats and at just 6'7", he'll be shifting over to the three in the pros. The 23rd pick in the 2013 draft will be a bench option for the Pacers in his rookie season.
