Vitor Faverani had left knee surgery on Monday and will miss the next 6-8 weeks.

He had the procedure to clean up inflammation and evaluate his meniscus. Faverani has dealt with a litany of knee injuries in his two seasons, so he might have a tough time making the roster this year. Fantasy owners can ignore him for now.

The Celtics may waive Vitor Faverani due to his troublesome knee injury.

The Celtics have more than 15 players on their roster, so it makes sense for them to waive him. Faverani is in Spain to get a second opinion on his knee, so another surgery might be the straw that broke the camel's back for the big man.

Vitor Faverani (knee) traveled to Spain on Saturday to seek out a second opinion on his balky left knee.

Pending the results, Faverani could be headed for another surgery to alleviate the lingering swelling he's been experiencing. We'll update the situation as more information becomes available, but from a fantasy standpoint, Faverani is completely off the radar.

Vitor Faverani (knee) will not play in Friday's preseason game vs. the Raptors.

Head coach Brad Stevens said that the team will have more information on Faverani's knee Saturday, and we'll be waiting for an update. Faverani has been limited throughout all of training camp, and has yet to suit up for a preseason game, so clearly his proclamation that his knee was "perfect" during media day was not entirely true. He's running out of time to show Stevens why he deserves to be a rotation player, and despite the upside he offers in blocks, he doesn't look like someone to target in standard leagues.
Oct 10 - 6:28 PM

Vitor Faverani (knee) will not play on Wednesday.

His knee injury is still hanging around and he might not be ready to start the season. Faverani does have some upside for his shot blocking, but he'll need to work on the mental aspect of the game. He's not on the fantasy radar.
Oct 8 - 4:04 PM

Vitor Faverani (knee) will not play against the 76ers on Monday.

He is practicing on a limited capacity, but it doesn't sound like he's close to 100 percent. Faverani's lack of health and not being on the same page as his teammatess will cost him playing time this season.
Oct 6 - 11:24 AM

Vitor Faverani is sitting out at camp on Sunday as he battles swelling in his knee.

He was withheld from practice on Friday for precautionary reasons, but it appears more serious than the Celtics are letting on. Faverani is coming off a knee surgery in March and he is buried on the depth chart. Needless to say, he is not on the fantasy radar.

Oct 5 - 2:48 PM

Vitor Faverani (knee) was withheld from Friday's team scrimmage.

He practiced for 40 minutes on Thursday, so this is likely just a precautionary move as they ease him back from knee surgery. Faverani will have to fight for minutes in a crowded frontcourt, and he's not someone that should be targeted in standard leagues.
Oct 3 - 5:57 PM

Vitor Faverani (knee) practiced for 40 minutes on Thursday.

It's a step in the right direction for the second-year big man. Faverani was lost on the court in his brief time with the Celtics last year, so he's pretty far down on the depth chart right now.
Oct 2 - 9:01 PM

Vitor Faverani (knee) sat out of practice on Wednesday due to swelling.

He still isn't right from his arthroscopic knee surgery from back in March. Faverani has a lot of catching up to do with how the NBA game is played, but he has some upside as a shot blocker.
Oct 1 - 4:28 PM

Vitor Faverani (arthroscopic knee surgery) practiced on Tuesday but "didn't do all the things," according to coach Brad Stevens.

Faverani said his knee is "perfect" but he's being held out of two-a-day practices as a precaution. He projects as a backup in a crowded center rotation, and may not be active on opening night after being arrested for a DUI this summer. So far, neither the Celtics nor the league have punished him.
Sep 30 - 5:18 PM

Vitor Faverani told media on Monday that he's fully recovered arthroscopic knee surgery he had back in March that caused him to miss most of the 2013-14 season.

"My knee's perfect," Faverani said. Head coach Brad Stevens also confirmed that Vitor is healthy enough to begin training camp, but he likely won't have him participate fully in the two-a-day practices. Faverani finished last season with averages of 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds, and as a guy buried on the bench in a deep frontcourt, he's not going to be worth drafting in most leagues.
Sep 29 - 8:12 PM

The Celtics are contemplating a punishment for Vitor Faverani after he was arrested for drunk driving, according to team president Danny Ainge.

This news comes a day after head coach Brad Stevens said that Faverani should be ready for the start of training camp following offseason knee surgery. The Celtics punishment likely wouldn't span more than a few games, but fantasy owners can do better than Faverani averages of 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds from last season.
Sep 23 - 11:37 AM

Vitor Faverani posted pictures on Tuesday which show him receiving acupuncture therapy on his surgically-repaired left knee.

Faverani was reportedly arrested in Spain for drunk driving in August, but neither he nor the NBA have commented on the matter. It wouldn't be surprising to see him given a two-game suspension to begin the season. He's fighting for minutes in the Celtics' center rotation and doesn't warrant fantasy attention with Jared Sullinger, Tyler Zeller and Kelly Olynyk all presumably ahead of him in the depth chart.
