Wayne Selden (right quad) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Pelicans.
He was initially being listed as a game-time call, but the Grizzlies will instead play it safe and keep Selden on the sidelines for the first game of the season. Andrew Harrison will be the starting two-guard for Memphis in the opener, and if Tyreke Evans (ankle) is also unable to give it a go, Harrison could be forced into heavy minutes on Wednesday night. Selden can be ignored in most leagues. Oct 17 - 6:22 PM

Date:

Wayne Selden (quad) will be a game-time decision in Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Pelicans.

Selden was able to get through most of Tuesday's practice, so maybe he'll be able to get out there for opening night. Andrew Harrison has already been named the starting two-guard for Wednesday, so if Selden does play, he'll likely be splitting minutes with Harrison off the bench, which is not ideal in terms of fantasy hoops.
Oct 17 - 2:37 PM

Wayne Selden (quad) will not play Friday vs. the Pelicans.

Although he won't suit up on Friday, Selden is making progress. He said he's feeling "much better" and went through an extended workout after Friday's shootaround. It appears he's on track to play in the season opener. He should see plenty of minutes over the first month of the season, as Ben McLemore (foot) is not expected back until mid-November.
Oct 13 - 1:22 PM

Wayne Selden (quad) is questionable to play against the Pelicans on Friday.

He did not play on Wednesday, but this injury sounds more precautionary than anything else. Selden should be in the rotation and could be asked to score in double digits for a team that is missing some of its wing depth. He's only worth a look in very deep leagues.
Oct 12 - 7:53 PM

Wayne Selden (quad) didn't play on Wednesday but he "might be good to go for Friday," according to Grizzlies writer Peter Edmiston.

It sounds like this was more of a precautionary absence. Memphis doesn't have much depth on the wings, and Selden has been impressive throughout the offseason, so he's worth keeping an eye on in deeper formats.
Oct 12 - 12:34 AM

Wayne Selden (right quad) is doubtful to play in Wednesday's exhibition against Houston.

It's unclear exactly when Selden suffered this quad injury, but this is probably just a precautionary move from the Grizzlies. Selden will have a tough time finding meaningful minutes in Memphis' crowded backcourt, so he can't be considered a viable target in most settings.
Oct 10 - 6:10 PM

Wayne Selden will start at shooting guard for Monday's preseason game against the Magic.

Selden will be competing with Tyreke Evans for the starting two-spot with the Grizzlies, and Selden will have an opportunity to make an impression with the coaching staff tonight. However, the shooting guard position in Memphis could devolve into a timeshare situation once Ben McLemore is healthy, so none of these guys make for the most attractive standard league targets. Joining Selden in the starting five tonight will be Mike Conley, James Ennis, Chandler Parsons and Brandan Wright.
Oct 2 - 6:40 PM

Wayne Selden was named to the All-NBA Summer League Second Team.

The Grizz finished with a 5-1 record in Las Vegas and Selden averaged 22.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals in 30.5 minutes. It was a very encouraging showing for Selden. However, with Memphis signing both Tyreke Evans and Ben McLemore this summer, it will be difficult for Selden to secure consistent minutes next season.

Jul 18 - 1:00 PM

Wayne Selden finished the Grizzlies' elimination loss on Sunday 5-of-13 from the field for 13 points with four assists, three turnovers and two steals in 22 minutes.

Selden added a block tonight and overall he looked terrific in Vegas, especially as a scorer, putting up 24.6 points in his first five games. Vince Carter is gone and Tony Allen isn't a lock to return in free agency, but it'll still be hard for Selden to make an impact with Tyreke Evans and Ben McLemore coming to town.
Jul 16 - 8:07 PM

Wayne Selden scored 24 points during a 98-95 win over the Heat on Saturday, adding five rebounds, four assists and three turnovers in 33 minutes.

It was a great quarterfinal game with the Grizzlies earning the victory in double-overtime. Assuming he does play on Sunday against the Blazers, Selden should end the Las Vegas Summer League with the most total points. Selden did have a minor left ankle tweak in this game, but he played through the injury and even made an and-one bucket off the injury. He's not a lock for the rotation, but he is certainly helping himself as one of the best players in Vegas this year.
Jul 15 - 8:17 PM

Wayne Selden scored 33 points with four rebounds, two assists, one steal, three turnovers and three 3-pointers in a win over the Suns on Thursday.

He's been a top-five scorer in Vegas and continues to just get in the lane seemingly whenever he wants. Selden is going to have some more competition for minutes, but he looks like he'll have a chance to at least get in the rotation.
Jul 13 - 10:17 PM

Wayne Selden had a strong showing vs. the Kings in Las Vegas on Sunday, scoring 21 points (6-of-13 FGs, 7-of-8 FTs) with four assists, two rebounds, and three steals.

Selden was coming off a 28-point outburst on Saturday, but the obvious asterisk applies -- this is Summer League. Selden's fantasy role should be established well before typical fantasy drafts occur.
Jul 10 - 12:18 AM

Wayne Selden scored a game-high 28 points with six rebounds, two assists, three steals and four 3-pointers in a win over the Wizards on Saturday.

With most of his time in the D-League last year, Selden had a cup of coffee in the NBA with 14 games. The 22-year-old was in the rotation during the postseason, but he's still got some work to do before he locks down minutes.
Jul 8 - 6:16 PM

Grizzlies sign G Wayne Selden Jr.

It's a multi-year contract for the 22-year-old wing. Selden did actually get some postseason minutes for the Grizzlies last year, but it may be tougher for him to get run if Chandler Parsons (knee) can get out there.

Jul 1 - 5:00 PM

Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders is reporting that Wayne Selden has agreed to a two-year deal with the Grizzlies.

Memphis signed Selden in March and he appeared in 11 regular-season games for the Grizzlies, averaging 5.0 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists. He also started two playoff games, due to injuries in the Memphis backcourt. However, it is unlikely Selden makes much of a fantasy impact in 2017-18.
