Dwyane Wade singled out Doug McDermott as a player who has "impressed" him during training camp.
"I think [not only] the way he shoots the ball and how fast he shoots it, but the way he puts the ball on the floor as well and shows his athletic ability," Wade said. "Playing against him and now seeing his confidence in his game, the kid's tough ... We need him make shots." The Bulls have a dearth of perimeter options, so having a player like McDermott earn a reliable role this season would be a big plus for the team. Just don't expect him to have value in 12-team leagues. Sep 28 - 7:50 PM

Doug McDermott said the Bulls second unit should fit coach Fred Hoiberg's style.

"People have been questioning bringing in D. Wade and [Rajon] Rondo, saying they don't fit Fred's style," McDermott said. "But we have four or five guys coming off the bench who really do fit Fred's style and we can gel with those other guys." Earlier in the interview, he also mentioned Bobby Portis, Cris Felicio, Denzel Valentine and Jerian Grant. In other words, chances are those five will be coming off the bench while Nikola Mirotic gets the start. Just keep an eye on McDermott for now.

Doug McDermott is not expected to play in summer league.

McDermott will practice with Chicago's summer league squad, but he will not participate in any games. Assuming the Bulls find a taker for Mike Dunleavy's contract—something the team will undoubtedly explore—McDermott could soon find himself with a starter's role and a copious amount of playing time.
Jun 27 - 12:33 PM

Doug McDermott scored 15 points in 37 minutes off the bench against the Rockets on Thursday, adding nine rebounds, three assists and one 3-pointer.

He was huge in the fourth quarter after Mike Dunleavy looked like a traffic cone on defense at times. Still, it's going to be tough to trust McDermott while Jimmy Butler is healthy.
Mar 31 - 11:50 PM

Doug McDermott scored 12 points with three rebounds and two 3-pointers against the Magic on Saturday.

While he has been productive at times, it's still going to be tough to trust McDermott in most leagues while Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler are healthy. On the other hand, owners in points leagues can give him a look with five games on the schedule for the upcoming week.
Mar 26 - 9:43 PM

Doug McDermott scored one point with no other stats on Thursday against the Knicks.

That's two really bad games from McDermott with a seven-point game on Wednesday. He won't be worth owning in most leagues while Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler are active.
Mar 24 - 11:48 PM

Doug McDermott scored 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting vs. the Kings on Monday, adding one board, one assist and four 3-pointers in 21 minutes.

McDermott is going to struggle to get a lot of minutes when the Bulls are at full strength, but coach Fred Hoiberg has got to find a way to get him more playing time. He's been red hot over his last five games, averaging 19.4 points, 2.2 boards, 1.4 assists and 3.4 3-pointers on 56.1 percent shooting. That's not a sustainable pace, but McDermott could be a quality 3-point specialist the rest of the way.
Mar 21 - 11:18 PM

Doug McDermott was held to seven points on Saturday vs. the Jazz with five boards, two assists and one 3-pointer in 22 minutes.

He was coming in hot with averages of 24.7 points, 1.7 boards, 1.3 assists and 4.0 3-pointers over his previous three games, so he had nowhere to go but down. This was a bad matchup for McDermott, but this proves that he will be hard to trust with the Bulls at full strength on the wings. He’s still a quality 3-point specialist, though.
Mar 19 - 10:36 PM

Doug McDermott exploded for 25 points and five 3-pointers in a win over the Nets on Thursday, adding three boards and one assist in 28 minutes,

Nikola Mirotic who? McDermott was 8-of-16 from the field tonight and has clearly gained the trust of his head coach, and he's now seen 28 or more minutes in three straight games. He's averaging 24.7 points, 1.7 boards, 1.3 assists and 4.0 3-pointers in that span, so he needs to be owned in standard leagues until he cools off. Keep in mind that he will only help you in points, 3-pointers and FT percentage.
Mar 17 - 10:33 PM

Doug McDermott lit up the Wizards for a team-high 20 points in 31 minutes of action on Wednesday, making 6-of-10 FGs and 5-of-5 FTs with three 3-pointers.

McDermott added two assists, one rebound and one steal, and the Bulls fell to 1-9 in their past 10 road games. His role has expanded by default with so many players injured for Chicago, and over the past three games McDermott is averaging 19.7 points and 3.0 triples, while shooting 19-of-30 from the field (63.3 percent). He's worth a look for scoring and 3-pointers, but little else.
Mar 16 - 11:10 PM

Doug McDermott scored 29 points during a 109-107 win over the Raptors on Monday, adding one rebound, one assist and four 3-pointers in 37 minutes.

Apparently he owns the Raptors with his career-high 30 points coming against them as well. McDermott was on fire in the first half with 24 points, so coach Fred Hoiberg gave him heavy run. Mike Dunleavy (illness) should be better and Jimmy Butler is back now, so McBuckets is more of a deeper points league guy.
Mar 15 - 1:16 AM

Doug McDermott scored seven points in 22 minutes against the Rockets on Saturday with four rebounds and one 3-pointer.

With Jimmy Butler back in the mix, McDermott's minutes are going to drop now. He doesn't have a great upside due to primarily scoring points, but at least he is adding some dunks now. Drop McBuckets in most leagues.
Mar 6 - 12:07 AM

Doug McDermott needed 15 shots to score 11 points off the bench on Wednesday, going 5-of-15 overall with one 3-pointer and four rebounds in 33 minutes.

The playing time was there, but the production wasn't. McDermott missed both of his free throws and contributed zero assists, steals or blocks, which highlights the biggest hurdle for fantasy owners -- if his shots aren't falling, he's not helping your team.
Mar 2 - 10:03 PM

Doug McDermott scored 18 points with one rebound, one assist, one steal and two 3-pointers in 32 minutes against the Blazers on Saturday.

He's really turned it on as a scorer both on and off the ball. In his last five games, McDermott averaged 19.6 points, 3.0 boards, 0.2 steals and 2.0 treys on 57.8 percent from the field. As eye-popping as those efficiency numbers are and how he's hit 93.3 percent of his 3.0 free throws per game, that's still only good for top-60 value because of a lack of non-scoring stats. It's not a bad idea to ride him while he's hot and Jimmy Butler (knee) is out.
Feb 27 - 10:35 PM

Doug McDermott scored a game-high 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting during Friday's loss to the Hawks, adding one 3-pointer and five rebounds in 31 minutes of work.

McDermott scores and hits treys, but that’s about it. If you’re looking for some production in those categories, McBuckets is worth a look, but don't drop a long-term asset as McDermott's value figures to take a sizable hit once Jimmy Butler (knee) returns to the court.
