Doug McDermott scored two points with three rebounds, one assist and three turnovers during a 102-93 loss to the Hawks on Friday.
All that momentum he built earlier this month is now gone. He's still not making treys and his defense is holding the team back. Maybe a lineup tweak helps him, but it's hard to count on McDermott night in and night out. Jan 21 - 1:59 AM

Doug McDermott hit just 3-of-10 shots and a 3-pointer for seven points, six rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes on Tuesday.

McBuckets finally got hot on Sunday, hitting 9-of-16 shots for a season-high 31 points, six rebounds and three 3-pointers, but turned back into a pumpkin on Tuesday night. If you throw out his 31-point explosion, he hasn't scored more than eight points in his last five games and hit just 10-of-41 shots in those games. Maybe Sunday's game will eventually get him going, but it certainly didn't happen tonight against the Mavs. He's still a borderline player to own in 12-team leagues.
Jan 17 - 11:14 PM

Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg encouraged Doug McDermott to shoot with confidence before Sunday's game vs. Memphis.

"The big thing for Doug is to trust it," Hoiberg said. "We have a lot of confidence in Doug. Everyone in this organization does. He needs to continue to take them when they’re there. We need him to make shots. When he and Nikola [Mirotic] are shooting the ball well, we generally play well.’’ McDermott responded with a career-high 31 points in the win over the Grizzlies after a brutal four-game slump, but McBuckets is just a 3-point specialist in standard leagues until he proves that he can string several good performances together.
Jan 16 - 10:01 AM

Doug McDermott scored 20 of his career-high 31 points during in the second quarter of Sunday's road win in Charlotte, finishing 9-of-16 from the field and 10-of-11 from the line.

McDermott caught fire in the first half and helped the Bulls escape with a 108-104 road win, benefiting from extra minutes with Nikola Mirotic (illness) unavailable tonight. The third-year SF out of Creighton has had some nice moments over the past month, but tonight's eruption (against a tough Grizzlies' defense) doesn't necessarily make him worth owning. He added six boards, one steal and one block tonight, but for standard-league purposes he's only worth owning if you need a 3-point specialist.
Jan 16 - 12:18 AM

Doug McDermott scored eight points with seven rebounds, one steal and two 3-pointers in 20 minutes against the Pelicans on Saturday.

Coach Fred Hoiberg doesn't quite trust him as much as he did earlier this month when he was going no-PG lineups late and only giving him three fourth-quarter minutes. McDermott should be in a fantastic spot on Sunday with Nikola Mirotic (illness) and Dwyane Wade (rest) out, so the opportunity will be there. While he has been bad, it's worth a mention Hoiberg said McBuckets made "about 30 in a row" in a workout on Friday. He's a borderline cut, but you may want to wait to see what happens on Sunday.
Jan 14 - 9:02 PM

Doug McDermott said he's fine mentally and is "just not making shots right now."

After the Bulls were closing with him earlier this month in no-PG sets, the fact that Paul Zipser closed out the game on Thursday over McDermott is a really bad sign. He's had his biggest chance of his career lately, but made just 18.2 percent from the field in his last three. McDermott has certainly been open on his treys with only getting contested on 17.4 percent of those, so he just needs to knock shots down. Maybe he bounces back on Saturday, so his owners should give him one more game unless there is something irresistible on the wire.
Jan 13 - 5:05 PM

Doug McDermott came off the bench and played just 17 minutes, missing all five of his shots and scoring just two points in Thursday's 104-89 loss to the Knicks.

After hitting 6-of-9 shots for 17 points on Jan. 4, McBuckets has hit just 10-of-39 shots over his last four games, scoring seven or fewer in his last three. Coach Fred Hoiberg said after the game that McDermott's too good a shooter to stay in this funk for much longer, but if he was actually owned in your league prior to this week, he's likely been dropped. Just keep an eye on him, as he's not a must-own player.
Jan 12 - 10:54 PM

Doug McDermott will be in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Wizards.

Dwyane Wade (rest), Nikola Mirotic (flu) and Jimmy Butler (flu) are all out tonight, so McDermott will likely be working with a higher than usual usage rate. He's someone to consider throwing out there as a streamer or DFS punt play, particularly with a matchup against one of the worst teams in the league at defending the small forward position.
Jan 10 - 5:56 PM

Doug McDermott scored seven points in 25 minutes against the Thunder on Monday.

He flopped big time, hitting just 2-of-6 shots from the field and adding two boards and a triple. However, the Bulls play four more times in Week 12 and Jimmy Butler (illness) and Dwyane Wade (rest) are both out for Tuesday's game vs. the Wizards, so McDermott will likely start and see a massive workload. He averaged 13.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.0 3-pointers in his previous five games.
Jan 9 - 10:41 PM

Doug McDermott said that his confidence is on the rise.

"It's taken some time and the last two games we've been able to really get going," McDermott said of the bench's recent success. "It's a great feeling having the trust from the coaches, [Dwyane] Wade and Jimmy [Butler] and those guys, to be out there with them. We're just staying confident, staying ready." The Bulls closed Saturday's game vs. the Raptors with McDermott on the floor and they had a lot of success with a Butler-McDermott screen-and-roll action. McDermott is averaging 13.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.0 3-pointers over his last five, and he's a great pickup in standard leagues with five games on the schedule this week.
Jan 9 - 9:52 AM

Doug McDermott hit 6-of-17 shots for 17 points with a season-high 10 rebounds, one assist, one steal and two 3-pointers in 37 minutes on Saturday against the Raptors.

The Raptors had no answer for McDermott who recorded his first double-double of the season. He has scored in double-figures in five consecutive games and has played at least 29 minutes in six straight. He has solidified a spot in the Bulls rotation and should be a player to add in standard leagues.
Jan 7 - 11:14 PM

Doug McDermott is still suffering from short-term memory issues close to a full month after suffering a concussion.

Fortunately, for McDermott and the Bulls, he is feeling much better, all things considered. McDermott is also playing some of his best ball of the season. He has scored in double-figures in four straight games and is averaging 12.8 points (on 55.6 percent shooting) 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 3-pointers over this recent stretch.
Jan 6 - 1:03 PM

Doug McDermott drained 6-of-9 shots with three 3-pointers to finish Wednesday's road win with 17 points in 32 minutes.

McDermott also chipped in six rebounds, one assist and one steal vs. the Cavs tonight. He's made six or more field goals just three times all season, but has at least five in three straight. He's consistently getting minutes in the high-20s, but his fantasy upside is trampled by a lack of rebounds, assists or defensive stats. Most owners can do better in 12-team formats.
Jan 4 - 10:50 PM

Doug McDermott started in place of Dwyane Wade (knee) on Monday, but hit just 5-of-12 shots for 11 points, one rebound and one assist in 30 minutes.

We were hoping for more from McDermott tonight, but it was all Jimmy Butler, all the time tonight. Wade's injury doesn't appear to be serious, but if he's out and McDermott is starting on any given night, McBuckets should be a little better than this next time.
Jan 3 - 12:13 AM

Doug McDermott will start in place of Dwyane Wade (knee) on Monday vs. the Hornets.

Wade is day-to-day and the Bulls are hopeful to have him back on Wednesday vs. Cleveland, so McDermott is just a speculative add in deeper leagues for now. McBuckets is averaging 9.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 triples this season, but he should see a few more shots tonight.
