Doug McDermott (elbow) will not play on Tuesday vs. the Suns.
He also had a knee issue last week, but he was able to play through it. This is the season finale and the Mavs would love to lose this game to improve their lottery position, so it's not a surprise that they are sitting most of their relevant players. Apr 10 - 7:07 PM

Date:

Doug McDermott (knee bursitis) is questionable for Sunday against the 76ers.

He played 19 minutes on Friday, but it may have not been due to his knee. McDermott is a dicey fantasy play.

Apr 7 - 2:55 PM

Doug McDermott scored seven points with two rebounds, one assist and one turnover in 20 minutes against the Magic on Wednesday.

The Mavs went with a tank closing lineup to take minutes from McDermott. McDermott will likely move back to the bench as the Mavs should get Harrison Barnes and Dirk Nowitzki back.
Apr 4 - 9:32 PM

J.J. Barea, Aaron Harrison, Doug McDermott, Dorian Finney-Smith and Johnathan Motley will start against the Magic on Wednesday.

This is a tank-tastic lineup for the Mavs. McDermott should be taking plenty of shots in the game, so he could have a chance at 20 minutes. He won't do much else, but he is an option in DFS or as a points specialist.
Apr 4 - 6:24 PM

Doug McDermott started Saturday's game in place of Harrison Barnes (rest), finishing with six points on 3-of-9 shooting, five rebounds, and zero other stats in 42 minutes.

Dallas came into this game with the sixth-worst record in the NBA, but they've been tanking much less than teams with epic losing streaks like the Grizzlies (19 straight losses), Knicks (nine), Suns (seven), Hawks (six). Barnes should be cleared to go vs. the Pelicans on Tuesday, and tonight's line is a visceral reminder that McBuckets is a hollow source of fantasy value.
Mar 17 - 10:13 PM

Doug McDermott and Kyle Collinsworth will start against the Nets on Saturday.

They'll join Dennis Smith Jr., Dwight Powell and Dirk Nowitzki, replacing Dorian Finney-Smith and Harrison Barnes. The Mavs are shorthanded tonight, so both guys could get over 20 minutes. We should still see Yogi Ferrell get a ton of minutes off the bench while Maxi Kleber likely backs up McBuckets. There's not much fantasy appeal beyond tonight.
Mar 17 - 7:22 PM

Doug McDermott cooled off on Sunday with four points on 1-of-7 shooting in 27 minutes during a lopsided home loss vs. Houston.

The former lottery pick came in averaging 15.0 points and 2.0 triples on 57.7% shooting in his previous three games. That wasn't sustainable, but we were still hoping for more with Wes Matthews (leg) getting ruled out late tonight. McDermott added three rebounds and one assist with two turnovers tonight, and it's worth noting that Dallas plays just three games in each of the next two weeks.
Mar 11 - 10:15 PM

Doug McDermott had his highest scoring game as a Mav with 20 points against the Grizzlies on Saturday, adding seven rebounds and three 3-pointers in 25 minutes.

He's kind of heating up now with 10, 15 and now 20 in his last three games -- 25 tomorrow? McDermott's minutes are also starting to climb with 28.7 per game over his last three. Encouraging notes aside, McBuckets just doesn't do enough on the stat sheet to be counted on in fantasy.
Mar 10 - 11:29 PM

Doug McDermott came off the bench to hit 4-of-8 shots, a 3-pointer and 6-of-6 free throws for 15 points, two rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes on Tuesday.

He had 10 points and two 3-pointers in his previous game and is benefitting from the absence of Wesley Matthews (hip), while Yogi Ferrell scored a season-high 24 tonight. McDermott is worth keeping an eye on in deep leagues, but he'll need for Matthews to continue to rest and for Ferrell to crawl back into his hole for it to come to fruition.
Mar 7 - 12:00 AM

Doug McDermott finished with 10 points off the bench in Friday's road loss against the Lakers.

The former Creighton Blue Jays standout ended up hitting 3-of-6 from the field, all from behind the arc, and he made his only free-throw attempt. McDermott is likely to get an extended look down the stretch, as head coach Rick Carlisle indicated before the All-Star break that he is eager to see what the 3-point specialist can do. McDermott is worth grabbing for help in deeper fantasy formats.
Feb 24 - 2:07 AM

Dallas coach Rick Carlisle is eager to see more of Doug McDermott going forward.

"Offensively, he really is a guy you've got to pay attention to," Carlisle said. "Moves great off the ball. Really one of the quickest releases on his shot I've seen. There's just a few guys who get rid of it that quick." McDermott is averaging 8.0 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 triples in his first two games for Dallas, and Carlisle also noted that he wants to give him an extended look as a small-ball four. He's still just a deep-league fantasy asset for now.

Feb 12 - 9:51 AM

Doug McDermott started Sunday's game and had eight points, four assists, three rebounds, two 3-pointers and one steal in 34 minutes of action.

Wes Matthews and Dirk Nowitzki were both out tonight, so we're not expecting this to become a trend. Then again, the Mavs continue to flirt with the worst record in the Western Conference and have no incentive to wear out their veterans, so McDermott could eventually be turned loose. For now, he's just a guy to keep an eye on.
Feb 11 - 10:20 PM

The Mavericks are starting Doug McDermott on Sunday, alongside Dennis Smith Jr., Yogi Ferrell, Harrison Barnes and Dwight Powell.

Dallas is playing without Dirk Nowitzki (ankle), Wesley Matthews (back) and J.J. Barea (rest), so there are plenty of minutes available.
Feb 11 - 7:00 PM

Doug McDermott scored eight points with three rebounds, three assists and one steal in 21 minutes against the Lakers on Saturday.

Coach Rick Carlisle said he was going to run him out there as a three, and that he'll entertain the idea of him as a four man soon. McDermott really needs some serious usage to have value in most fantasy leagues, so he's not really an add because he won't get it.
Feb 11 - 12:12 AM

Doug McDermott will make his debut with the Mavs on Saturday.

He is likely going to come off the bench and could take minutes from Maxi Kleber and Kyle Collinsworth. McDermott should get plenty of shots in the Mavs system while he's out there, but he may not see enough playing time.
