Doug McDermott will move to the bench for Monday's game vs. the Pacers.
Tony Snell will join the starting lineup, but this could just be a temporary move because Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg likely wants Snell to guard Paul George tonight. McDemott has been on fire from 3-point range this season, but he doesn't do much else in the box score and is just a specialist in deeper leagues. Nov 16 - 6:20 PM

Doug McDermott said that he's shooting with confidence under new head coach Fred Hoiberg.

"I feel like I'm back. I feel different when I step out there," said McDermott. "I'm shooting with confidence. And it's good to be a shooter in this offense. Fred really emphasizes having shooters and spacing out there. He gives us confidence. If I miss shots, he'll leave me in there. He believes in me." McDermott is averaging 11.1 points and 2.4 three-pointers per game on 53.2 percent shooting, so while he isn't really a multidimensional player, his ability to knock down the 3-point shot at a highly efficient rate without turning the ball over (0.8 turnovers per game) makes him worth owning as a specialist in deep leagues.
Nov 10 - 3:55 PM

Doug McDermott started and hit 7-of-15 shots and three 3-pointers for 18 points, two rebounds and nothing else on Monday.

That's a career high in scoring for McBuckets, but the lack of other stats makes it an empty fantasy line. He's averaging 13.4 points and 2.8 3-pointers over his last five games, but he doesn't off much else. If he continues to start instead of coming off the bench, he could start doing more going forward, so keep an eye on him.
Nov 9 - 10:19 PM

Doug McDermott was efficient in his start on Saturday against the Wolves, making 4-of-5 from the field for 11 points with two rebounds and three 3-pointers in 21 minutes.

That's good for an effective field goal percentage of 110.0 tonight. McDermott will bounce in and out of the starting lineup, he doesn't do much outside of score, and he's still the fifth or sixth scoring option on the team. He's only worth a look in deeper leagues.
Nov 7 - 10:36 PM

Doug McDermott will start at small forward on Saturday.

Coach Fred Hoiberg will go with the same starting lineup as Thursday. While McDermott getting the start looks like the biggest news on the surface from Thursday, the important thing to watch will be how much Pau Gasol plays next to Joakim Noah, which would take away from Nikola Mirotic. McDermott is only worth a look in deep leagues for now based on his low usage rate, not providing defensive stats and getting 23 minutes on Thursday.
Nov 7 - 4:17 PM

Coach Fred Hoiberg said he isn't sure if he will start Tony Snell or Doug McDermott against the Wolves.

He also said he could change his starting lineup based on the matchup. Both McDermott and Snell are not going to be involved in the offense much while the team is healthy.
Nov 6 - 2:57 PM

Doug McDermott played 23 minutes in his first start of the season on Thursday, scoring nine points with one rebound and one 3-pointer.

Coach Fred Hoiberg made plenty of changes to his rotation tonight. McDermott is still going to be the fifth option in the starting unit and he doesn't do anything else besides score, so he's not a very attractive add in most leagues.
Nov 5 - 11:19 PM

Doug McDermott will start at small forward in place of Tony Snell.

Well, this is interesting. Coach Fred Hoiberg is throwing McBuckets to the wolves here against Kevin Durant unless he wants to put Jimmy Butler on KD. Maybe he's overreacting to his team being thumped on Tuesday, but this probably doesn't change the total minutes given to Snell and McDermott.
Nov 5 - 7:22 PM

Doug McDermott hit 6-of-12 shots and five 3-pointers for a career-high 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal in Tuesday's blowout loss to Charlotte.

McDermott has improved in scoring in each of his last three games and has drained 12 3-pointers on the young season. He was helped by a career-high 30 minutes, which was largely due to the fact the Bulls were getting crushed all night.
Nov 3 - 9:31 PM

Doug McDermott connected on two more 3-pointers on Sunday vs. the Magic, finishing with 12 points and one rebound in 18 minutes off the bench.

McDermott has made 7-of-12 from beyond the arc through four games this season, but he isn't doing enough in other areas to warrant attention in standard leagues. Owners in deeper leagues can continue to stash him in the hope that his role will grow.
Nov 1 - 11:26 PM

The Bulls exercised their third-year option on Doug McDermott.

He ias shifted to a bench role and has cooled off quite a bit off the bench. McDermott has scored eight points in each game with just 18 minutes per-game. He's a deep-league stash for now.
Oct 30 - 4:42 PM

Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg had some nice words to say about Doug McDermott's performance on Friday vs. the Mavs.

"I wanted to run something for Doug and give him the ball and let him go to work. He made a heckuva shot," Hoiberg said. "I thought it was terrific that he just kept playing. He was rebounding and battling on the defensive end. To hit that game-winner should be good for his confidence. It's a sign of maturity, a sign of growth. He's continuing to be aggressive. And he has to be. His teammates expect him to shoot. They want him to shoot." McDermott is going to have a decent role early on with Mike Dunleavy nursing a back injury, so he is worth a look in deeper leagues for his ability to hit the 3-point shot.
Oct 25 - 10:04 AM

Doug McDermott made 2-of-10 from the field for eight points with seven rebounds, one assist and one 3-pointer in 29 minutes on Friday.

With talk of Nikola Mirotic shifting to the three more and Tony Snell having a nice month, the buzz on McBuckets has subsided. He is more of a 16-team target.
Oct 23 - 11:38 PM

Bulls F Doug McDermott is slated to come off the bench when the regular season begins.

"That's a role that I anticipate for Doug, is coming off the bench," new Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg said. "He has [played well]. I've liked [it]. It will be a good role for him." Despite some early noise about McBuckets earning a starting role, that was never a strong reality. "I'm completely fine with it," McDermott said. "I just feel a lot more comfortable, especially offensively," he added.
Oct 19 - 9:48 AM

Doug McDermott will start on Friday.

Coach Fred Hoiberg likes McBuckets on the bench, so he is going to have to shine big time on Friday. The Bulls are more open to playing Nikola Mirotic at the three and Hoiberg likes Snell on defense to take pressure off Jimmy Butler. McBuckets is more of a 16-team target right now.
