Doug McDermott is expecting more minutes this season and said coach Fred Hoiberg wants him to move more without the ball.
The Bulls are going to change their offensive identity and it should help McDermott. Still, he was out of the rotation last year and he might have to fight off rookie Bobby Portis for minutes. Fantasy owners can take a wait-and-see approach when it comes to drafting McBuckets. Jul 27 - 6:45 PM

Coach Fred Hoiberg said he thinks Doug McDermott can play both forward spots.

Former coach Tom Thibodeau basically thought McBuckets couldn't play either forward spot. Hoiberg likes that McDermott can space the floor, which will really help Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler on the offensive end. Still, the Bulls are loaded at forward and even rookie Bobby Portis could pass McBuckets on the depth chart soon.

New Bulls Coach Fred Hoiberg wants Doug McDermott to be more aggressive.

"I think the biggest thing with Doug is to go out and aggressive," Hoiberg said. "He didn't shoot the ball great this week, but he did everything else well. ... The one thing I know he can do is shoot," Hoiberg added. Expect McDermott to play a larger role under Hoiberg than he did under former head coach Tom Thibodeau.
Jul 20 - 8:42 AM

Doug McDermott scored 25 points on 11-of-25 shooting (including a three) with eight rebounds and one steal in Thursday's Summer League win over the Raptors.

McDermott has looked good during Summer League but he's a total question mark heading into the regular season. Factor in a fantasy game that is lacking in a number of areas -- he's somebody owners don't have to watch too closely for now.
Jul 16 - 11:53 PM

Doug McDermott led the Bulls with 16 points on 8-of-16 shooting to go along with five rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes of Wednesday's Summer League win over the Cavaliers.

He was joined by Bobby Portis and Vander Blue, who also scored 16 points apiece for Chicago. He's not hitting 3-pointers and has too many holes in his game to be given heavy expectations this season.
Jul 16 - 12:41 AM

Doug McDermott led Chicago with 19 points and three rebounds on Tuesday, but he also missed a potential game-winner as the Bulls blew a double-digit lead.

McDermott shot 8-of-14 from the field but he was just 3-of-6 at the line without any 3-pointers, and he also racked up six personal fouls in 31 minutes. There are too many facets of his game that need improvement to expect more than sporadic fantasy value from him in 2015-16.
Jul 14 - 7:32 PM

Doug McDermott scored 11 points on 5-of-13 shooting on Sunday, adding one assists, one rebound and one turnover through 33 minutes of action.

Considering the competition, this was a bit of a letdown for Dougie McBuckets after he put up 20 points in his Summer League debut. He missed all four of his 3-point attempts in this one, and he'll need to be more consistent to earn himself a larger role in Chicago. He should have more opportunity for playing time playing in head coach Fred Hoiberg's system, but he’ll need to do more this offseason to gain any consideration in standard fantasy leagues.
Jul 12 - 8:18 PM

Doug McDermott said he thinks he'll fit in nicely with new coach Fred Hoiberg.

He was in Tom Thibodeau's doghouse for basically his entire rookie season, so this move has to help McBuckets. We saw him shine in Las Vegas last summer and he'll likely have another chance to do so again. For now, he's nowhere near worthy of a fantasy draft pick in most leagues.
Jun 3 - 5:55 PM

Doug McDermott (back) will be available to play Friday vs. the Pistons.

McDermott may be able to get on the court if the game turns into a blowout, but he's not a regular rotation player for Chicago, so he can safely remain on the waiver wire in all formats.
Apr 3 - 11:42 AM

Doug McDermott (back) is questionable to play Friday vs. the Pistons.

Even if McDermott is a go, he's not likely to get enough minutes to matter in most leagues. Leave him on the wire.
Apr 2 - 5:34 PM

Doug McDermott (back) was a full participant during Thursday's practice.

McDermott has been forced to sit the past four games due to back soreness, but his return to practice is an encouraging sign for his availability for Friday's game vs. the Pistons. That being said, McDermott isn't a major rotation player for the Bulls, so his status shouldn't matter to owners in most leagues.
Apr 2 - 2:50 PM

Doug McDermott (back) will not play vs. the Bucks on Wednesday.

This will be his fourth consecutive game on the shelf and there is still no known timetable for a return. McDermott wasn't a consistent part of the rotation before the injury, so he belongs on the wire in almost all leagues anyways.
Apr 1 - 12:11 PM

Doug McDermott (back) will not play vs. the Knicks on Saturday according to head coach Tom Thibodeau.

McDermott reportedly had another setback, so he is probably looking at some additional time on the sidelines. He wasn't a consistent part of the rotation anyways, so his absence won't have many fantasy implications. We will update his status once we know more.
Mar 28 - 11:55 AM

Doug McDermott will not play on Wednesday due to back soreness.

His absence gives Tom Thibodeau one fewer perimeter shooter to bring off the bench, but it shouldn't have any implications in fantasy leagues. McDermott is averaging under 10 minutes per game since the All-Star break and the waiver wire is his permanent residence.
Mar 25 - 5:38 PM

Doug McDermott played 22 minutes against the Hornets on Friday with 13 points, five boards and three 3-pointers on 4-of-6 from the field.

He was looking at even bigger minutes tonight, but coach Tom Thibodeau said he pulled the rookie in the fourth quarter because of the bad matchup. McDermott can hit a lot of treys and add some boards, so he's on the radar in deep leagues. Of course, 95 percent of fantasy owners will want to see it again.
