Doug McDermott (concussion) said he will play on Thursday vs. the Spurs.
He's been practicing in the D-League to get his conditioning back up, but the Bulls will "watch him closely" even though he doesn't have a minutes limit. McDermott averaged 10.6 points, 1.3 assists and 0.9 triples per contest prior to the concussion, so he's not an add in standard leagues. His return could take a handful of minutes away from Denzel Valentine, Isaiah Canaan and maybe even Nikola Mirotic. Dec 8 - 1:12 PM

The Bulls have recalled Doug McDermott, R.J. Hunter and Paul Zipser from the D-League.

McDermott has been practicing with the D-League team to help him get up to speed. Assuming everything went well, he could play against the Spurs on Thursday. McBuckets is still only worth a look in deep leagues.

Dec 7 - 4:25 PM

Doug McDermott (concussion) got in two full practices with Chicago's D-League affiliate, and he could return to action Thursday vs. the Spurs.

McDermott is only averaging 10.6 points, 1.3 assists and 0.9 triples per contest this season, so he's not worth owning in most leagues. Once he's fully up to speed, he'll likely take away some minutes from Denzel Valentine and Isaiah Canaan, but that really doesn't mean all that much.
Dec 6 - 6:23 PM

Doug McDermott (concussion) has been assigned to the NBA D-League.

It's simply the next step in his rehab after he was recently cleared for contact. It sounds like McBuckets could return within the week, but he's only a stash in deeper leagues if you're desperate for 3-pointers.
Dec 5 - 12:46 PM

Coach Fred Hoiberg said Doug McDermott (concussion) has been cleared for contact.

He will practice with the D-League Windy City Bulls on Monday and Tuesday, if no setback. McDermott will likely be out for a couple more games due to suffering two concussions last month.
Dec 3 - 7:11 PM

Doug McDermott (concussion) has been ruled out for Friday night vs. the Cavs and Saturday night in Dallas.

The Bulls are hopeful McDermott will be cleared for contact on Friday. However, coach Fred Hoiberg wants to see him get a couple workouts in before being cleared for a game. Isaiah Canaan and Nikola Mirotic have been the biggest beneficiaries of McDermott's absence and should continue to see increased workloads this weekend.

Dec 2 - 12:21 PM

Doug McDermott (concussion) will not play against the Cavs on Friday.

There's not much of an update here. McDermott has still not been cleared for contact and doesn't have a target date. Isaiah Canaan has been the most consistent bench perimeter guy while Nikola Mirotic has seen some bright spots. Hopefully, McDermott can make it back next week.
Dec 1 - 2:46 PM

Doug McDermott (concussion) will not suit up for Wednesday's game against the Lakers, as expected.

"Every case is individualized," Fred Hoiberg said. "You look at it based on what their symptoms are, and Doug, unfortunately has two of them in this early portion of the season, so he’s just not ready yet." He's yet to be cleared for contact, so for now, we'll be considering him doubtful for Chicago's upcoming back-to-back set Friday vs. Cleveland and Saturday vs. Dallas.
Nov 30 - 2:00 PM

Doug McDermott (concussion) has not yet been cleared for full-contact practice, so it appears he will miss Wednesday's game vs. the Lakers.

McDermott has to be symptom-free and pass all required tests in order to progress through the league-mandated concussion protocol. He has missed six straight games, but appears to at least be headed in the right direction.
Nov 29 - 2:14 PM

Doug McDermott (concussion) has been cleared for non-contact work and shooting.

He's been out for a few weeks and still doesn't have a clear return date, but this is a step in the right direction. Prior to going down, McDermott was averaging 10.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.9 triples in 23.7 minutes per game, so he's only worth stashing in deeper leagues.

Nov 28 - 1:57 PM

Doug McDermott (concussion) is "still having symptoms" but is "getting better," according to coach Fred Hoiberg.

He's not going to be able to progress through the concussion protocol until he is symptom free. Plus, McDermott having two concussions in a month suggests the Bulls will be extra careful. They'll use more of Denzel Valentine and Isaiah Canaan to help out in the second unit.

Nov 24 - 2:53 PM

Doug McDermott (concussion) will miss at least two more games, Tuesday at Denver and Friday at Philadelphia.

This is not surprising news, as McDermott is dealing the serious aftereffects of his second concussion this month. Earlier reports indicated he could be sidelined until November 30th. Nikola Mirotic started for the Bulls on Sunday and tallied 15 points and 15 rebounds in 37 minutes.

Nov 22 - 2:15 PM

Doug McDermott (concussion) is out for at least the next three games and he could be out until Nov. 30.

After his second concussion this month, the Bulls will keep McDermott out for most of their road trip. With him out of the lineup, Nikola Mirotic should get more shots in the second unit while Denzel Valentine and Isaiah Canaan should get a few extra minutes.

Doug McDermott (concussion) will not play vs. the Blazers on Tuesday.

He's also doubtful for Thursday's game vs. the Jazz, but he could join the Bulls on their road trip in a few days. With McDermott out, Isaiah Canaan should be looking at more minutes on the wings and it's possible Paul Zipser enters the rotation.
