Cleanthony Early was recalled from the D-League and will be available to play against the Lakers on Sunday.
The rookie has had some tough luck with injuries this season, and while he does have plenty of potential, he's currently not in the rotation. Early is worth keeping an eye on in deeper leagues if the Knicks decide to shut Carmelo Anthony down for the season, but it's safe to leave Early on the wire for now. Feb 1 - 9:37 AM

Cleanthony Early has been sent down for a D-League stint.

Early is very raw, and he'll get some much needed experience in the D-League. It's been hard for him to step into the rotation in New York, and he'll need a few injuries to the guys ahead of him in the rotation before he can gain any relevancy in standard leagues.
Jan 30 - 12:41 PM

Cleanthony Early played 18 minutes against the Pacers on Thursday with two points, four rebounds, one steal and two blocks.

He did not play in the last two games and coach Derek Fisher gave him a chance tonight. While garbage time was a factor, Early did get some run in the first half. The upside is alluring, but he'll need a couple guys to miss time in order to see minutes in the 20s.
Jan 29 - 9:37 PM

Cleanthony Early (ankle) is doubtful to play against the 76ers on Wednesday according to coach Derek Fisher.

If he does end up sitting this one out, it will be his third straight game on the sidelines. While Early has shown some potential this season, he won't have a large enough role to matter in most leagues as long as Carmelo Anthony is active. At this point in the season, Early is simply a stash in deeper leagues for when Melo decides to hang it up for the season.
Jan 21 - 9:46 AM

Cleanthony Early will not play against the Pelicans on Monday due to an ankle injury.

The Knicks said they didn't play Early on Thursday because they wanted to get a look at their 10-day contract guys, so this is very weird to say Early has an ankle issue. Regardless, it sounds like the team wants to get a look at Langston Galloway first.
Jan 19 - 4:02 PM

Coach Derek Fisher said he didn't play Cleanthony Early because he wanted to play the 10-day contract players more.

Wait, what? Lou Amundson is 32 years old and hasn't played more than 13 minutes per game since 2010-11. Lance Thomas is 26 and made a laughable 22.2 percent from the field last season. This makes even less sense because they signed guys to 10-day deals knowing they have a trip to London in that stretch, so they basically cut their ability to help them in half. What's more, Early was the first rookie they drafted and he's shown some flashes in summer league and on occasion this season. He should still be considered as a hold in deep leagues.
Jan 15 - 7:45 PM

Carmelo Anthony will replace Cleanthony Early in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Bucks.

Early's value takes a significant hit with the return of Anthony, and he doesn't look like a great daily league play as he'll likely be struggling to get touches and minutes playing behind the Knicks' franchise player.
Jan 15 - 2:16 PM

Cleanthony Early had a disappointing afternoon in his first NBA start, making 2-of-9 from the field for six points with two rebounds, two assists and two 3-pointers during a 110-82 loss to the Hornets on Saturday.

This was a mess with Coach Derek Fisher making 16 subs in the first 28 minutes while the Hornets doubled up NY at half 62-31. Fisher pulled Early out of the game a couple times to coach him up, which is encouraging because the coach cares and it's also not good because it shows how rare he is. Still, Early looks like he's poised for minutes in the high 20s and he should get enough treys and steals to give him some appeal in standard leagues at some point. There's no need to be too aggressive and add him yet, though.
Jan 10 - 5:09 PM

Cleanthony Early will earn the first start of his NBA career on Saturday vs. the Hornets.

Pablo Prigioni will shift to the bench with this news and it's not out of the question for Early to approach 30 minutes in this contest. Carmelo Anthony (knee) is expected to return to the lineup next week, but owners would still be advised to give Early a look considering that Melo may opt to shut it down for the rest of the season as the Knicks tank their way to a high draft pick this summer.
Jan 10 - 11:20 AM

Cleanthony Early is still working on his conditioning after recently recovering from knee surgery.

"My body feels fine as far as moving," Early said. "I got to continue to get my conditioning up. I didn’t get a chance to practice or get any contact before I got thrown in there. So each game is conditioning, getting my wind back and getting a feel for the game." The rookie has been a rare bright spot for the Knicks lately and recently scored 16 points with six boards on Thursday. The return of Carmelo Anthony (knee) next week will hurt his value temporarily, but if/when Melo shuts it down for good Early could make some noise down the stretch for the Knicks.
Jan 10 - 10:37 AM

Cleanthony Early made 6-of-10 from the field for 16 points with six rebounds, one assist, two steals and one 3-pointer in 25 minutes against the Rockets on Thursday.

He continues to thrive in transition and has done a very good job on the offensive glass. Early was the first draft pick made by the new regime, so that bodes well for his chances for minutes. He has a fairly solid fantasy game with steals and triples, so he's on the radar in standard leagues.
Jan 8 - 11:16 PM

Cleanthony Early played just 18 minutes on Wednesday, finishing with eight points, two rebounds and two 3-pointers on 3-of-5 shooting.

He played well, but just didn't get enough minutes from Derek Fisher. If you recently picked him up, or are considering doing so, we still think he'll get more minutes (and production) than this on most nights.
Jan 7 - 9:52 PM

Cleanthony Early played 29 minutes against the Grizzlies on Monday with seven points, four rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block on 3-of-12 shooting.

It was a bad game, but the defense and the usage rate are the big takeaways. Early did show he can put the ball on the floor at summer league, so he potentially can be the team's sixth man. The Knicks are in all-out tank mode and from the looks of if Early is going to get more minutes off the bench. With J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert gone while Carmelo Anthony (knee) could be rested, Early could emerge in deep leagues.
Jan 5 - 10:59 PM

Cleanthony Early (knee) returned to action on Friday, scoring five points on 2-of-5 shooting (including a three) with one rebound and one steal in 15 minutes.

Early is worth watching from afar as a young player on a team in the tank.
Jan 3 - 12:37 AM

Cleanthony Early (knee) is active against the Pistons on Friday night.

There is no indication that he will play and he hasn't been back at practice yet anyway. The Knicks have so many guys active on their roster that it's likely just a formality. We're not expecting him to play on Friday. Early can be ignored in most formats for now.
