Knicks Coach Derek Fisher said that Cleanthony Early needs to improve on defense to earn a meaningful role.
"Where he's going to really earn his living is using his athleticism and his aggression on the defensive end and be a shutdown guy," Fisher said. Anthony can put the ball in the hole, but he needs to do more than that to carve out a real role on the re-made Knicks roster. Jul 13 - 1:15 PM

Cleanthony Early played 15 minutes against the Magic on Saturday with three rebounds, three assists and two turnovers.

He didn't score and missed both attempts from the field. Early hasn't done much in his rookie season, but let's not forget he was a second-round pick. He'll most likely be headed to summer league again in July.
Apr 11 - 9:53 PM

Cleanthony Early (ankle) will play against the Magic on Saturday.

He wasn't playing well before his ankle sprain suffered back on Apr. 3. If Early does get minutes in the low 20s, it may take away from Ricky Ledo and Shane Larkin. Fantasy owners should avoid all three in most cases.
Apr 11 - 5:42 PM

Cleanthony Early (ankle) will not play vs. the Pacers on Wednesday.

He's missed two straight games but it sounds like he could return on Friday or Saturday. Ricky Ledo is coming off a six-point game but he averaged 15.0 points in his three previous games, making him worth a look for opportunistic value until Early returns.
Apr 8 - 5:51 PM

Cleanthony Early (ankle) will not play Sunday vs. the 76ers, as expected.

Ricky Ledo will be the primary beneficiary with Early sidelined, and he's worth a look as a plug-and-play option in daily leagues after going off for 21 points in his last outing. Early is without an official timetable to return, and belongs on the waiver wire in all leagues.
Apr 5 - 5:54 PM

Cleanthony Early (ankle) is doubtful to play against the 76ers on Sunday.

He did not practice on Saturday after an ankle sprain kept him out of the final three quarters of Friday's game. With Early out, Ricky Ledo played the best game of his NBA career, dropping 21 points in a blowout loss. Ledo will likely get even more run on Sunday and is worth a look in standard leagues. Of course, it's possible he goes 2-of-20 or something.
Apr 4 - 2:03 PM

Cleanthony Early suffered a left ankle sprain on Friday and will not return.

He walked to the locker room very slowly and didn't have too bad of a limp. Early could miss time going forward, but he wasn't playing well anyway. Ricky Ledo benefits most.
Apr 3 - 7:43 PM

Derek Fisher offered some praise for rookie Cleanthony Early during a recent interview.

"Cle’s had an up-and-down year physically with a couple of injuries that slowed down his development this year," Fisher said. "He’s continued to work hard and shows it every day. Getting more comfortable and confident out there with opportunity he’s getting to play each night since he’s back and healthy." Early has played well over the last four games with averages of 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 three-pointers, and 1.8 steals per game. He's worth a look as a low-end option in deep leagues.
Apr 3 - 10:58 AM

Cleanthony Early came off the bench and hit 6-of-11 shots and two 3-pointers for 14 points, six rebounds, a steal and a block in 27 minutes.

Early is quietly playing decently over his last four games, averaging 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.8 steals, 0.5 blocks and 1.3 3-pointers on 45 percent shooting over his last four. If you need a warm body, he certainly qualifies, even though he's not starting for the Knicks.
Apr 1 - 11:31 PM

Cleanthony Early played 18 minutes against the Bulls on Saturday with nine points, one rebound, three assists, two steals and one 3-pointer.

He committed five fouls and made a couple mental lapses in the game. The Knicks were going to give him an extended look, but he's kind of squandering the chance. It looks like Ricky Ledo is the better add. Yes, these are your 2014-15 New York Knickerbockers.
Mar 28 - 10:45 PM

Cleanthony Early scored 12 points with five rebounds, one assist, three steals and one turnover in 29 minutes against the Celtics on Friday.

He was 5-of-13 from the field and he's finally starting to get some significant run. Alexey Shved (ribs) is likely out for the season, so Early could have an impact in deeper leagues. Until he starts to make shots, he's not worth owning in standard leagues.
Mar 28 - 12:35 AM

Cleanthony Early returned from an ankle injury and had a team-high 18 points, four rebounds, a steal and two 3-pointers on 5-of-12 shooting in 25 minutes on Wednesday.

The Knicks are painful, in all aspects - to watch, to use in fantasy, to watch some more - and Early has really struggled on the season. The points were nice, but he never seems to shoot 50 percent and he's just as likely to give you a three-point game as he is to come through like he did tonight. Then again, maybe the Knicks are ready to wind him up and turn him loose, so it's also possible this was a sign of things to come. Keep a close eye on him on Friday night, and pounce if he does anything.
Mar 26 - 12:04 AM

Cleanthony Early (ankle) will play against the Clippers on Wednesday.

He has a good chance for minutes tonight with the Knicks missing a few guys on the wing. Early has been awful this season, making 33.8 percent from the field in his 31 games. We'll let you know if he does anything noteworthy tonight.
Mar 25 - 5:24 PM

Cleanthony Early (ankle) is being listed as probable for Wednesday's game against the Clippers.

Early hasn't been able to do much this season, even when given big minutes, so he's not someone that should be added in most leagues.
Mar 24 - 4:52 PM

Cleanthony Early (ankle) will not play against the Grizzlies on Monday.

His ankle injury isn't getting much better and there's no word of him practicing yet. Early can be dropped in just about all leagues.
