Russ Smith scored 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in Friday's exhibition win over the Thunder.
There were enough players resting tonight to make this more like a Summer League game than an NBA contest. Smith will start the season as the Grizzlies' No. 3 point guard, but the guys in front of him have some tricky ankles. Don't be surprised if he gets pressed into action at some point. Russ Smith came off the bench for the Grizzlies in Tuesday's preseason game and had 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal on 2-of-8 shooting in 21 minutes.

Smith, who played in 24 games last season, looked decent tonight, but it's hard to see him making a regular-season impact for the Grizzlies this year.
Oct 7 - 12:15 AM

Russ Smith hit the game-winning layup in double overtime on Friday against the Orlando Magic 'White' team to clinch the Orlando Summer League Championship.

Smith also hit the game-winning shot in double overtime against the Magic 'Blue' team on Tuesday, so it's clear that he has enjoyed his time in Orlando. Smith finished the game with 15 points, nine assists, three steals and two 3-pointers, and he has been one of the nicest surprises in summer league so far. However, Smith will struggle to find consistent minutes in Memphis, so he isn't an option in fantasy leagues.
Jul 10 - 2:30 PM

Russ Smith made a game-winning floater in double-overtime on Tuesday, propelling the Grizzlies to a 73-71 win vs. the Orlando Magic 'Blue' team.

Smith came off the bench but finished with a team-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting, two 3-pointers, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 28 minutes of action. The outburst may turn a few heads but Smith, who has played 12 games in his NBA career, is obviously not on the fantasy map.
Jul 7 - 7:37 PM

The Grizzlies have re-assigned G Russ Smith to the D-League.

Smith has been yo-yoing in and out of the Grizzlies' roster all season and this marks his sixth trip to the D-League, where he's averaging 19.5 points, 4.9 boards and 3.7 assists for the Iowa Energy.
Mar 24 - 7:39 PM

The Grizzlies have recalled Russ Smith from the D-League.

Smith is still behind Nick Calathes and Beno Udrih in the rotation, so he may not even leave the bench tonight. Leave him on the wire.
Mar 12 - 5:03 PM

Russ Smith has been sent to Memphis in exchange for Quincy Pondexter and a 2015 second-round pick.

Smith will likely pick up a plethora of DNP-CDs in Memphis, partnered with various D-League stints. In other words, he remains a negligible option in most leagues as the fourth-string point guard in Memphis.
Jan 11 - 5:30 PM

Russ Smith will likely head to Memphis in exchange for a second-round pick.

The deal isn't official yet, but it is said to be part of a three-team trade that will ultimately send Jeff Green to Memphis. However, Smith would likely be buried on the depth chart in Memphis just like he is in New Orleans so there is no need to grab him in most leagues.
Jan 10 - 9:20 PM

Russ Smith scored for the first time in his NBA career on Saturday, finishing with five points, two boards and one 3-pointer in 15 minutes.

He was recalled from the D-League prior to the game on Saturday, and was able to pick up some experience in garbage time against Portland. Smith was a stud at the Las Vegas summer league and was the leader in assists per game, but he has a long way to go before he will be relevant in most fantasy leagues.

Russ Smith was recalled from the NBA D-League on Saturday.

Gal Mekel was recently waived, so Smith could potentially see some minutes as a backup point guard. However, he won't see enough minutes to matter in most leagues, so he can be left on the wire.

Russ Smith was recalled by the Pelicans on Monday.

The team has found their backup point guard in Gal Mekel, so Smith is going to have a very hard time getting minutes. He can be ignored in all leagues.

The Pelicans have sent down Russ Smith for a D-League stint.

Smith has played in just three games this season, and he remains a negligible fantasy option even when on the active roster.

The Pelicans are reportedly considering sending rookie guard Russ Smith down for a D-League stint.

Smith hasn't been able to get off the bench this season, appearing in just three of the Pelicans' 17 games so far. A send down to the D-league would allow Smith to get some experience and playing time, but he remains a negligible option in fantasy leagues.

Russ Smith made his NBA debut on Tuesday vs. Charlotte, but turned the ball over twice and failed to register any other stats in four minutes.

While it was nice to see him get some playing time, Smith won't be on the fantasy radar in almost any league this year. You can safely ignore him on the waiver wire.

The Pelicans have placed Russ Smith (thumb) and Patric Young on the inactive list for Tuesday's opener vs. the Magic.

These guys aren't fantasy options in any league, hopefully you didn't need us to tell you that. Smith does have a minor thumb injury, but that's not why he's inactive. Jimmer Fredette has won the backup point guard job.
