The Grizzlies have recalled Russ Smith from the D-League.

Smith is still behind Nick Calathes and Beno Udrih in the rotation, so he may not even leave the bench tonight. Leave him on the wire.
Mar 12 - 5:03 PM

Russ Smith has been sent to Memphis in exchange for Quincy Pondexter and a 2015 second-round pick.

Smith will likely pick up a plethora of DNP-CDs in Memphis, partnered with various D-League stints. In other words, he remains a negligible option in most leagues as the fourth-string point guard in Memphis.

Russ Smith will likely head to Memphis in exchange for a second-round pick.

The deal isn't official yet, but it is said to be part of a three-team trade that will ultimately send Jeff Green to Memphis. However, Smith would likely be buried on the depth chart in Memphis just like he is in New Orleans so there is no need to grab him in most leagues.
Jan 10 - 9:20 PM

Russ Smith scored for the first time in his NBA career on Saturday, finishing with five points, two boards and one 3-pointer in 15 minutes.

He was recalled from the D-League prior to the game on Saturday, and was able to pick up some experience in garbage time against Portland. Smith was a stud at the Las Vegas summer league and was the leader in assists per game, but he has a long way to go before he will be relevant in most fantasy leagues.

Russ Smith was recalled from the NBA D-League on Saturday.

Gal Mekel was recently waived, so Smith could potentially see some minutes as a backup point guard. However, he won't see enough minutes to matter in most leagues, so he can be left on the wire.

Russ Smith was recalled by the Pelicans on Monday.

The team has found their backup point guard in Gal Mekel, so Smith is going to have a very hard time getting minutes. He can be ignored in all leagues.

The Pelicans have sent down Russ Smith for a D-League stint.

Smith has played in just three games this season, and he remains a negligible fantasy option even when on the active roster.

The Pelicans are reportedly considering sending rookie guard Russ Smith down for a D-League stint.

Smith hasn't been able to get off the bench this season, appearing in just three of the Pelicans' 17 games so far. A send down to the D-league would allow Smith to get some experience and playing time, but he remains a negligible option in fantasy leagues.

Russ Smith made his NBA debut on Tuesday vs. Charlotte, but turned the ball over twice and failed to register any other stats in four minutes.

While it was nice to see him get some playing time, Smith won't be on the fantasy radar in almost any league this year. You can safely ignore him on the waiver wire.

The Pelicans have placed Russ Smith (thumb) and Patric Young on the inactive list for Tuesday's opener vs. the Magic.

These guys aren't fantasy options in any league, hopefully you didn't need us to tell you that. Smith does have a minor thumb injury, but that's not why he's inactive. Jimmer Fredette has won the backup point guard job.

Russ Smith played just four minutes against the Thunder on Thursday.

The imaginary "summer league matters" movement gets sad every once in a while and Smith is another reason. He led Las Vegas at summer league in assists per game, but apparently he's too small for significant run in the NBA.

Rookie and former Louisville star Russ Smith scored 12 points in 13 minutes for the Pelicans on Saturday.

The game was played in Louisville, KY, in front of more than 20,000 people, despite being a preseason game. The crowd went nuts whenever Smith touched the ball and he looked pretty good. But at this point, it would appear that Jimmer Fredette is the second-string point guard, and Smith is No. 3 behind Jrue Holiday. Austin Rivers was playing more shooting guard than point guard tonight.

Russ Smith appears to be entering training camp ahead of Austin Rivers on the point guard depth chart.

Tyreke Evans will still get some run at the point, so Smith is still not a lock for minutes in the teens just yet. He was phenomenal at Las Vegas Summer League, so he'll be worth watching over the next month. If something happens to Jrue Holiday, Smith could find himself on the fantasy radar.

Russ Smith scored 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting on Thursday against the Hornets.

Smith was one of the few bright spots for the Pelicans in their 105-74 loss to the Hornets. He had 19 points, six assists, five rebounds, and one steal in 26 minutes of action. Smith also committed five turnovers, but never seemed out of control when handling the ball. His chances at making the Pelicans roster remain in flux, but he competed hard and played well in his four Summer League appearances.
