Montrezl Harrell hit 7-of-10 shots for 15 points, four rebounds and a steal in 22 minutes off the bench on Thursday.
Nene got the night off to rest his sore shoulder which meant more minutes for Harrell. But on nights when Nene and Clint Capela (who started again) are both playing, Harrell just doesn't see enough minutes to be trusted in fantasy. Nene will probably be back for the next one, so look for Harrell to fade hard. He was a DNP-CD on Tuesday, scored eight points on Friday, got another DNP last Thursday, and scored seven points in just 15 minutes on Jan. 31. He belongs on waivers as long as Capela and Nene are relatively healthy. Feb 9 - 9:52 PM

Montrezl Harrell received a DNP-CD on Thursday against the Hawks.

Harrell's run could have come to an end now that Clint Capela is back to near full health. So long as Capela, Ryan Anderson and Nene are healthy, Harrell will see limited action.
Feb 2 - 11:28 PM

Montrezl Harrell moved back to the bench on Tuesday and hit 3-of-3 shots for seven points, three rebounds and three assists in just 15 minutes of a blowout win over the Kings.

The blowout possibly factored into his low minutes, but Clint Capela should be the starting center for the Rockets until further notice now that his broken leg is finally healed. Additionally, Nene was back from a rest, which further limited Harrell's minutes. If Capela is locked in as the starter going forward, Harrell's strong production might finally be coming to an end.
Jan 31 - 11:20 PM

Montrezl Harrell will be bumped to the bench Tuesday night vs. the Kings.

Clint Capela will start at center vs. Sacramento. Harrell's starter vs. reserve splits this season are pretty stark. He is averaging 12.0 points and 5.1 over 26.3 minutes in the 14 games he has started this season; whereas, he is averaging just 8.4 points and 3.2 rebounds over 16.0 minutes in the 27 games in which he has come off the bench this season.
Jan 31 - 6:35 PM

Montrezl Harrell was a surprise starter vs. Indiana on Sunday, posting 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting with seven boards, one assist and one block in 24 minutes.

Harrell never left the bench during Friday's game vs. Philly, so his start tonight was unforeseeable. All but one of his seven rebounds came on the offensive glass tonight, due largely to the fact that Houston shot a lousy 41.0 percent from the field. Given the uncertainty of his role night to night, Harrell is best left on the wire in 12-team leagues.
Jan 29 - 8:41 PM

Montrezl Harrell will start vs. the Pacers on Sunday, sending Clint Capela to the bench.

Harrell was a DNP-CD vs. the Sixers on Friday and this feels like a matchup-based tweak from coach Mike D'Antoni. Nene and Clint Capela are both riskier options without guaranteed roles tonight, but Capela should still hold value if he can carve out 20+ minutes in a backup role. Stay tuned.
Jan 29 - 5:30 PM

Montrezl Harrell was a DNP-CD on Friday against the 76ers.

Nene looked really good today, which spells big time trouble for Harrell's value in non-back-to-back sets. He's clearly a drop candidate.
Jan 28 - 1:31 AM

Montrezl Harrell made 5-of-6 shots on Wednesday to score 11 points with three assists, two rebounds and one steal in 25 minutes.

Nene was rested tonight, which opened up more minutes for Harrell, whose efficient shooting helped salvage his line. He played just 16 minutes on Saturday, and four minutes on Monday, and his role is too uncertain to bother with him in most leagues.
Jan 25 - 11:02 PM

Montrezl Harrell returned to the bench and played just four minutes vs. the Bucks on Monday with zero points and zero rebounds.

Clint Capela started and played 22 minutes, while Nene got the call as the backup center and scored 17 points in 22 minutes. "Clint looked good the past few games. That was his role and that is what we want. It has nothing to do with [Montrezl Harrell] or Nene," Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said. "All three are ready to go. We might switch them up and guys will play at different times. But our idea is that was Clint's job and his job to lose." Harrell's role is going to be too volatile to trust while Capela is healthy.
Jan 23 - 11:14 PM

Montrezl Harrell started again on Saturday, but played just 16 minutes and finished with six points and two rebounds.

We said in his previous blurb that he'll need to have 20-24 minutes to hold value and those of you who dropped him early when Clint Capela was on the verge of a return should feel better about that decision after this one. There's still a chance Harrell could hold a little value, but he and Capela both got 16 minutes tonight and Capela's run should only increase as he gets healthy from a broken leg. Harrell is likely to end up on waivers in a ton of leagues if he continues to see his minutes drop, while a move to the bench is likely coming as well.
Jan 22 - 12:01 AM

Montrezl Harrel scored eight points in a start against the Warriors on Friday, adding three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.

It'll be interesting for Harrell now that Clint Capela looked fantastic. For what it's worth, Harrell has looked better than Nene (rest), so maybe the Rockets just roll with two bigs. They also don't play two-center lineups, so the No. 2 battle will be important. We would still hold him in most cases because he would likely have value with 20-24 minutes.
Jan 21 - 12:53 AM

Montezl Harrell will get the start against the Warriors on Friday night.

With Nene resting and Clint Capela limited to 11 minutes in the last game, Harrell should play a bunch. That said, the Rockets will likely be going small quite a bit in this game and Capela will get more than 11 minutes tonight. We still think Harrell is a very good bet for 24-plus minutes, which makes him a very intriguing target. He should remain owned in standard leagues.
Jan 20 - 6:25 PM

Montrezl Harrell got the start against the Bucks on Wednesday, blocking a career-high five shots with 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two turnovers in 27 minutes.

He's been awesome and the Rockets have a good problem with both Harrell and Clint Capela outperforming their expectations. For what it's worth, the other four starters with Harrell have a +1.7 net rating in 161 minutes while that foursome and Capela is +14.8, so it does make sense to move Harrell to the bench once Capela is 100 percent. Whatever the case, both players could still have value with 20-24 minutes. Obviously they would need Nene to fall out of the rotation, which could happen. Harrell is a hold for now.
Jan 18 - 11:39 PM

Montrezl Harrell will move into the starting lineup for Wednesday's game, sending Clint Capela to the bench.

Capela is being eased back into things after a lengthy layoff, so it doesn't make sense to have him start if he's only going to play around 10 minutes or so. Harrell will likely split minutes at the five-spot with Capela and Nene, so he's not a very attractive option in most formats despite the starter tag.
Jan 18 - 6:25 PM

Montrezl Harrell played just 16 minutes and hit 5-of-6 shots for 13 points, one rebound and no blocks on Tuesday.

Clint Capela started, but played just nine minutes, while Harrell and Nene handled the center minutes off the bench. Nene had four points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes, but both players are going to take a hit once Capela gets his body back in NBA shape after missing 15 games with a broken leg. If you are ready to drop Harrell, it makes sense.
