Montrezl Harrell was the backup center again on Friday, scoring eight points with three rebounds and two blocks in 20 minutes.
The Rockets surprisingly rested Nene for a second straight game. That may have been due to how well Harrell played on Thursday or perhaps it could even be a rotation change. Hopefully, Mike D'Antoni sheds some light on this, but Harrell is still only going to be the backup center. He's only worth a look if you're desperate at center. Dec 3 - 2:35 AM

Montrezl Harrell was terrific in 25 minutes against the Warriors on Thursday, scoring 13 points with 10 rebounds, one assist and one block.

The Rockets went away from Clint Capela due to some missed free throws and Harrell just ran with his playing time. Nene (rest) did not play in this game, which gave Harrell the opportunity in the first place. Harrell did get most of the center run in overtime and did have a nice preseason, but Capela's extremely solid play before tonight should give him plenty of leash. Harrell is only a speculative pickup in deep leagues.
Dec 2 - 2:28 AM

Montrezl Harrell (calf) played 12 minutes off the bench on Wednesday, scoring six points with three rebounds and two turnovers.

Harrell was reportedly available vs. Detroit on Monday but he didn't play, and his minutes tonight are typical of his role while Clint Capela (31 minutes) and Ryan Anderson (29 minutes) are healthy.
Nov 24 - 12:09 AM

Montrezl Harrell (calf) will be available vs. Detroit on Monday.

He's not in the rotation this season and has made just six appearances.
Nov 20 - 12:06 PM

Montrezl Harrell (calf) will not play against the Jazz on Saturday.

With Nene (rest) back in action tonight, the Rockets won't miss Harrell too much. He had a good preseason, but Clint Capela is playing well again. Harrell doesn't have much value right now.
Nov 19 - 2:16 PM

Montrezl Harrell (left calf contusion) is listed as questionable for Saturday.

Harrell scored nine points in 21 minutes in the Rockets last game on Thursday; however, he hasn't in consecutive games since November 5th. He is not worth a roster spot in standard leagues.

Motrezl Harrell came off the bench and had nine points, nine rebounds and three assists on 4-of-13 shooting in 21 minutes of Thursday's win over the Blazers.

Nene was sitting out for a rest tonight, allowing Harrell to get some run. He didn't even play in the previous game and has only had two games where he scored more than four points. Ignore him unless Nene suddenly retires and Harrell starts doing this on the regular.
Nov 17 - 10:53 PM

Montrezl Harrell matched his career-high 17 points against the Knicks on Wednesday, adding 10 rebounds, one steal and three blocks in 27 minutes.

He just ate the Knicks alive on the inside. Nene (rest) did not play and it allowed Harrell to pick up all the second-unit center minutes against a tired, slow Knicks frontcourt. Clint Capela has played well for the most part, but coach Mike D'Antoni has hinted he's not totally comfortable using him late in games due to his woeful foul shooting. Still, Harrell is only worth a scoop in deep leagues.
Nov 2 - 11:16 PM

Montrezl Harrell did not play in Houston's season opener on Wednesday.

He recently dealt with a personal issue but that no longer seems to be an issue. Mike D'Antoni has mentioned Harrell as being in the mix for backup center minutes, but he has no clear path to value with Nene and Clint Capela standing in the way.
Oct 27 - 1:43 AM

Montrezl Harrell (personal) will be available for Wednesday's game against the Lakers.

He was at a funeral earlier this week and will be with the team. Coach Mike D'Antoni has leaned on the 6'8" big man as a smaller center throughout the preseason. D'Antoni did go with Harrell over Clint Capela at times, but Capela seems to be out in front. Plus, both of those guys along with Nene only saw minutes at the five.
Oct 26 - 2:13 PM

Montrezl Harrell (personal) was not present during Monday's practice.

It's unclear exactly what Harrell is dealing with, but he figures to split minutes with Nene as Clint Capela's backup this season, so there's no need to pay him any mind in standard leagues.
Oct 24 - 2:13 PM

Montrezl Harrell scored seven points with seven rebounds, one steal and one block in 21 minutes on Wednesday.

He was quickly gaining ground on Clint Capela, but he lost a bit during this game. Harrell is more of a power forward due to his shorter size at 6'8", but coach Mike D'Antoni is using him at the five. Just keep an eye on him.
Oct 19 - 11:23 PM

Montrezl Harrell scored 20 points in 27 minutes against the Grizzlies on Saturday, adding 10 rebounds, one assist, one steal and three blocks.

Well, coach Mike D'Antoni might be at it again with a high-motor, undersized five. He's playing Harrell at center and is even doing it with all smalls around him, too. While Harrell didn't have a great rookie season or even a productive 2016 Summer League, he's in the mix to take minutes from Clint Capela. There isn't too much upside here, so savvy fantasy owners can just keep this info in their back pocket until something concrete comes of it.
Oct 16 - 12:07 AM

Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni indicated that Montrezl Harrell has begun to push Clint Capela for minutes at center.

Capela has not shown much during the preseason, so it's not exactly a surprising development. The Rockets are paper-thin inside and it wouldn't be surprising to see Ryan Anderson wind up logging time as Houston's small-ball center routinely during the regular season. This position battle is shaping up to be a three-headed monster in the worst kind of way and we recommend avoiding it for fantasy purposes.

Montrezl Harrell has been suspended for five games for shoving an official to the ground during Saturday's D-League game.

Harrell isn't a part of the rotation in Houston, so this news has zero consequence in fantasy hoops. Harrell will be able to return to his non-existent role with the Rockets on April 10.
