The Hawks will recall Walter Tavares from the D-League in time for Sunday's game against the Jazz.
Tavares scored 18 points with 17 rebounds and five blocks in 28 minutes on Saturday for the Austin Spurs while shooting 7-of-10 from the field. The 7'3 center has a lot of upside, but minutes won't be easy to come by in Atlanta this season. Tavares is still a nice stash in dynasty leagues. Nov 15 - 9:15 AM

The Hawks have sent down C Walter Tavares for a D-League stint.

Tavares has been a negligible part of the Hawks rotation this season, seeing just one minute of action in two games thus far, so he'll get some much needed experience in the D-League. There’s no reason to roster Tavares outside of deep dynasty leagues.
Nov 10 - 3:21 PM

Edy Tavares made his debut with one minute against the Knicks on Thursday, scoring one point with one rebound.

Deep Dynasty owners rejoice! Tavares is a Rudy Gobert-like freak, but he's out of the rotation and would need multiple injuries to be fantasy relevant this year.
Oct 30 - 12:27 AM

Walter Tavares is inactive for Tuesday's game vs. the Pistons.

Tavares has some scary upside because of his length and ability to block shots, but he is also a huge project and may not be in the rotation for a while.
Oct 27 - 6:26 PM

Walter Tavares grabbed 12 boards with three points and two blocks on Friday against the Pistons.

He struggled on offense and looked great on the glass. Tavares is arguably the most like Rudy Gobert for his length and blocking prowess, but he's still extremely raw. If you want him in Dynasty, it's going to be a while before he's a real asset.
Oct 23 - 9:49 PM

Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer had some nice words to say about the progress of Walter Tavares.

"We are pleased with the progress that he is showing, his understanding," Budenholzer said. "Defensively, he’s made a lot of good plays with his hands, his activity and his length have been very good. Offensively, [he’s] putting pressure on the rim going to the basket. You can throw it up there and he goes gets it. He’s gotten to the foul line quite a bit. He’s given us more pressure on the rim, which is important to us." Tavares had eight points, six boards and one block in just 11 minutes vs. the Pelicans on Friday, but he may struggle to find minutes while the Hawks are at full strength. Keep an eye on him in deeper leagues and keeper formats.
Oct 11 - 12:45 PM

Walter Tavares played 11 minutes on Friday against the Pelicans with eight points, six boards and one block.

He probably won't be in the rotation to start the year, but one injury to the frontcourt could change that. Tavares' 7'9" wingspan and blocking potential already put him on the radar in keeper formats.
Oct 9 - 10:00 PM

Hawks rookie Edy Tavares will be "a good player," according to teammate Al Horford, though it will "probably take him time to get used to the speed of the NBA game."

Tavares was drafted in 2014 but he spent last season playing in Spain, where he averaged 8.0 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 22 minutes per game. He is 7'3" with an enormous wingspan but may spend the 2015-16 season in the D-League -- either way, he's unlikely to crack the rotation while Horford and Tiago Splitter are healthy.
Aug 23 - 3:07 PM

Edy Taveres suffered a right index finger laceration on Saturday.

He was having another solid game before the injury, scoring six points with five rebounds and one block in 14 minutes. Taveres has a 7'9" wingspan and the Hawks will certainly be hoping they have the next Rudy Gobert on their hands. Of course, Taveres has a lot to prove.
Jul 18 - 7:16 PM

Walter 'Edy' Tavares is adjusting to the pace of the NBA.

"He forgot a lot of what we are doing last year," Hawks assistant Kenny Atkinson said. "His team in Europe was playing a totally different pick-and-roll coverage. But we are on him. We are watching film with him." Through two summer league games, Tavares is averaging 5.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 5.5 fouls in 19 minutes of action.
Jul 13 - 1:09 PM

The Atlanta Hawks have officially signed Walter Tavares.

Tavares is a massive 7'3" center who averaged 8.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in Spain last season, but he is still very raw. The Hawks are looking to make another deep playoff run next season, and it's hard to imagine Tavares getting significant minutes right out of the gate. Owners in deeper leagues should monitor his progress, but he can be ignored on draft day in standard leagues.

The 7'3" center will leave Spain after averaging 8.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in just 22 minutes and will join the Hawks as a bit of a project. While Tavares has plenty of upside, he's still quite raw and can be ignored in standard fantasy leagues.
Jul 2 - 11:41 AM

The Hawks intend to bring 2014 draft pick Walter Tavares to the NBA next season, according to David Pick of

Tavares is a 7'3" center who currently plays for Gran Canaria in Spain, where he's averaging 8.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in just 22 minutes per game. He's extremely raw and is unlikely to make a fantasy impact as a rookie.
Apr 1 - 5:40 PM

Walter Taveres has decided to spend the 2014-15 season with Herbalife Gran Canaria of Spain's ACB League.

Taveres averaged 6.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in six games with the Hawks during Las Vegas Summer League after being selected with the 43rd pick of the 2014 NBA Draft. The 7'3" center has only been playing basketball for five years, so another season of growth overseas should help the 22-year-old develop his game to be more NBA-ready.
