K.J. McDaniels made 5-of-8 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line for 16 points during a 99-74 loss to the Pelicans on Monday, adding four rebounds, one assist, three steals, two blocks and one 3-pointer.
He needed an efficient game on offense after some scoring issues before this one. In his previous 10, McDaniels made just 33.0 percent from the field and his jumper has just not been falling. He was better off the dribble tonight and had a couple cheap ones in transition, so it's hard to say he's figured it out. Still, he is worth owning in some standard leagues for his steals, blocks and treys. Jan 26 - 10:37 PM

K.J. McDaniels finally turned it around on offense against the Raptors during a 91-86 loss on Friday with 14 points, five rebounds, five assists, one block and two 3-pointers in 30 minutes.

In his previous five games combined, McDaniels made just 12-of-49 (24.5 percent) from the field. McDaniels has struggled all season from the field, but he's flirting with standard league value thanks to his blocks and treys. He's worth a look in standard leagues in hopes he can get it going offensively.
Jan 23 - 10:43 PM

K.J. McDaniels made just 2-of-9 from the field and 1-of-3 from the line against for five points against the Wizards during a 111-76 loss on Monday, adding four rebounds, one steal and one block.

The milk has gone bad for K.J. over his last four, making just 22.2 percent from the field for averages of 6.0 points, 4.0 boards, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.8 blocks and 0.3 triples. McDaniels is still getting minutes and the blocks are nice, so most of his owners should just bench him for now.
Jan 19 - 5:43 PM

K.J. McDaniels made just 2-of-10 from the field for four points with three rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 27 minutes against the Pistons on Saturday.

Yuck. While his highlight is full of blocks, his defensive numbers are phenomenal this season. In his previous four games, he held his man 8.9 percent below his average. Yes, defensive field goal percentage is not a category, but it will lead to playing time. His upside makes him worth holding, even with his recent struggles on offense this weekend.
Jan 17 - 10:12 PM

K.J. McDaniels blocked four shots during a 100-84 loss to the Raptors on Wednesday with 10 points, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal and one 3-pointer.

On the downside, he did make just 2-of-10 from the field. McDaniels' offense was trending up before tonight while his blocks were down, but he was on the other end tonight. His fantasy owners have to love the blocks, which will give him low-end value in standard leagues as a floor. If he clicks on offense, there is a lot to like.
Jan 14 - 10:44 PM

K.J. McDaniels is back in the starting lineup against the Pacers with Henry Sims moving to the bench.

The Robert Covington shooting guard move was a blast, but it'll be K.J. in that spot. His numbers are worse in the starting lineup and coach Brett Brown plays the matchups, so this move into the starting lineup is insignificant.
Jan 10 - 5:58 PM

K.J. McDaniels will come off the bench against the Nets on Friday.

The 76ers are going to start 6'9" Robert Covington at shooting guard in one of the longest starting lineups in the NBA this season. McDaniels numbers were better off the bench, so his fantasy owners shouldn't view this as a downgrade to his value.
Jan 9 - 6:15 PM

K.J. McDaniels started again and hit 5-of-8 shots for 14 points, six rebounds, three steals and a block in 30 minutes.

He also committed five turnovers, but played reasonably well, especially compared to several of his teammates. We'll have to see if KJM is still starting once Luc Mbah a Moute and Hollis Thompson are back from their ailments, but it's quite possible he could hold onto the job now that he's got it.
Jan 7 - 11:52 PM

K.J. McDaniels made 5-of-8 from the field for 12 points with three rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two 3-pointers.

It's one of his best offensive games of his career and he was coming off a 10-game stretch making just 34.8 percent from the field. McDaniels has also seen his blocks fall to 1.4 per game in that span and hasn't had a big game in a while. He's more of a stash at this point.
Jan 5 - 9:59 PM

K.J. McDaniels scored just four points on 2-of-10 from the field with six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one turnover against the Clippers on Saturday.

He's really struggling right now. In his last five games, McDaniels has averaged just 6.4 points, 3.0 boards, 1.4 assists, 1.0 blocks and 0.8 steals on 28.9 percent from the field. The rookie is actually getting minutes, so he could turn it around in an instant. Still, we're not going to fight you if you're tired of waiting for him to bust out.
Jan 4 - 1:23 AM

K.J. McDaniels will enter the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Suns, sending JaKarr Sampson back to the bench.

This will be McDaniels' second career start, and it'll be interesting to see how he performs. He's been holding onto late-round value as a reserve, so a promotion to the starting lineup could be a good thing. However, coach Brett Brown has been playing with his lineups all year, so he could just as easily head back to the bench in the next one.
Jan 2 - 7:35 PM

K.J. McDaniels started at SG to begin the second half of Tuesday's game, which he finished with seven points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block.

He also turned the ball over four times while committing five personal fouls in a mere 24 minutes of action, and faces a typical rookie learning curve as he tries to break into Philly's starting rotation. He's held late-round value in 25 minutes per game this season, and is particularly intriguing if he can hang onto a starting job.

K.J. McDaniels had nine points, five boards, two assists and one block on Sunday, making 4-of-6 shots with one 3-pointer in 20 minutes off the Sixers' bench.

Sixers coach Brett Brown opted to keep McDaniels on the bench in order to give the second unit more scoring. While tonight's low playing time is disappointing for fantasy owners, K.J. has more than enough upside to hang onto in standard leagues. On a per-36-minute basis, he's averaging 13.3 points, 1.4 threes, 5.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
Sun, Dec 21, 2014 08:52:00 PM

K.J. McDaniels played 27 minutes against the Hornets on Friday with six points, two rebounds, one assist and two blocks.

It was a boring line, but today he saw an increase in fantasy value. Alexey Shved was getting some of the shooting guard minutes and most of those are going to go to K.J. The rookie should be better on the stat sheet, so his owners should raise their expectations a bit.
Fri, Dec 19, 2014 09:57:00 PM

K.J. McDaniels said on Wednesday that he is legs aren't where they need to be and he could be going through the rookie wall.

"I think I'm going through the rookie [wall]. It's mostly my legs," McDaniels said. "I have to find a way to get on the court more with Robert [Covington]." Everyone loves how Covington spaces the floor, so that would help K.J. Of course, he could be hinting that he wants to start, but he's going to have to cut down on the mistakes. Struggles aside, McDaniels has 2.5 blocks per game over his last four, so his owners should hold him.
