K.J. McDaniels played 27 minutes against the Hornets on Friday with six points, two rebounds, one assist and two blocks.
It was a boring line, but today he saw an increase in fantasy value. Alexey Shved was getting some of the shooting guard minutes and most of those are going to go to K.J. The rookie should be better on the stat sheet, so his owners should raise their expectations a bit. Dec 19 - 9:57 PM

K.J. McDaniels said on Wednesday that he is legs aren't where they need to be and he could be going through the rookie wall.

"I think I'm going through the rookie [wall]. It's mostly my legs," McDaniels said. "I have to find a way to get on the court more with Robert [Covington]." Everyone loves how Covington spaces the floor, so that would help K.J. Of course, he could be hinting that he wants to start, but he's going to have to cut down on the mistakes. Struggles aside, McDaniels has 2.5 blocks per game over his last four, so his owners should hold him.
Dec 17 - 2:11 PM

K.J. McDaniels struggled in his return on Monday, making 2-of-10 from the field for six points with three rebounds, one steal and three blocks in 20 minutes.

Coach Brett Brown said at halftime that his guys were sloppy and McDaniels was part of that group. Still, he blocked three shots and had 10 shots, so this night wasn't all bad. The blocks are too much of a positive to not be patient here.
Dec 15 - 10:18 PM

K.J. McDaniels (ankle) will play on Monday against the Celtics.

He is going to come off the bench tonight. McDaniels missed Saturday after aggravating an injury on Friday. He was putting up terrific defensive numbers before the injury and he is still worth owning in standard leagues. We'll get a good look to see how he co-exists with Robert Covington and Tony Wroten tonight.
Dec 15 - 5:29 PM

K.J. McDaniels (ankle) will not play against the Grizzlies on Saturday.

He was questionable to play for Friday due to the same ankle injury and he rolled it again last night. McDaniels only played 19 minutes on Friday, so the injury makes sense now. He should remain stashed in standard leagues. Hollis Thompson, Luc Mbah a Moute, Robert Covington and Tony Wroten should pick up some more run.
Dec 13 - 5:51 PM

K.J. McDaniels did not score in 19 minutes against the Nets on Friday, adding two rebounds, one steal and one block.

He played terribly with three turnovers and three fouls. McDaniels is a rookie and he's coming off the bench, so the inconsistencies are absolutely going to be there. Still, his upside in defense makes him worth owning in standard leagues for now.
Dec 13 - 12:11 AM

Updating a previous report, K.J. McDaniels (ankle) will play Friday vs. the Nets.

McDaniels is currently in a shooting slump, going 15-of-51 from the field over his past five games, but he's also chipping in averages of 2.4 blocks, 1.8 steals, 1.0 three-pointer over that span. He has a nice matchup against the Nets, so owners looking for some blocks and steals can go ahead and roll him out there.
Dec 12 - 11:41 AM

K.J. McDaniels (left ankle sprain) is being listed as questionable for Friday's game vs. the Nets.

This ankle injury is coming out of no where, but given the Sixers tendency to not play their guys at less than 100 percent, there is a chance that K.J. sits this one out. If McDaniels can’t go, there will be more minutes to go around for guys like Alexey Shved, Hollis Thompson, and Robert Covington. Stay tuned.

K.J. McDaniels blocked two blocks and had two steals against the Hawks on Wednesday with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and one 3-pointer in 23 minutes.

His shooting is lost right now, making just 29.4 percent from the field over his last five. McDaniels did post averages of 9.8 points, 6.6 boards, 2.2 assists, 2.4 blocks, 1.8 steals and 1.0 triples in that span, so he's making it up in other areas. He should be owned in all standards. Additionally, he had 70 friends and family members in attendance tonight.
Dec 10 - 11:58 PM

K.J. McDaniels blocked four shots against the Pistons on Saturday with six points, six boards, two assists, two steals and two turnovers in 33 minutes.

He had a couple very bad turnovers and coach Brett Brown sat him down after his worst one in the first half. Brown has also said he doesn't like how his team comes out flat to start the second half, so perhaps that thought might pave the way to start McDaniels. His offensive game isn't there, but with so much output on D, he should be owned in standard leagues.
Dec 6 - 10:49 PM

K.J. McDaniels didn't have a big game on the stat sheet against the Thunder on Friday with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 33 minutes.

He played solid defense tonight and he is certainly earning his playing time. McDaniels may have spent more energy on defense, so that might explain the quiet night on the stat sheet. His fantasy owners shouldn't be discouraged here and he should remain owned in standard leagues.
Dec 5 - 10:51 PM

K.J. McDaniels will guard Kevin Durant at times on Friday.

This is a bit of a "Welcome to the NBA" moment for McDaniels. He does have some fouling issues, so that could end up being his undoing tonight. He's still a great option, but he's probably not going to rack up the blocks against KD tonight.
Dec 5 - 5:34 PM

K.J. McDaniels hit just 4-of-13 shots and 2-of-9 3-pointers, but still finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a steal, four blocks and two 3-pointers in 36 minutes on Wednesday.

KJM is starting to roll and we couldn't be happier about it, although a starting job would be a nice touch. He's scored in double figures in four straight games and is averaging 13.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals, 2.2 blocks and 1.4 3-pointers in 31.6 minutes per over his last five. Yes, his shot looks broken at times and he makes a lot of mistakes, but the talent is there and the Sixers have no reason not to give him 30-plus minutes a night. He should be owned in all leagues.
Dec 4 - 1:11 AM

K.J. McDaniels filled the stat sheet against the Spurs on Monday with 10 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks, three steals and one 3-pointer in 30 minutes.

He did have some shooting issues tonight, making 2-of-8 from the field and 5-of-8 from the line. Coach Brett Brown brought McDaniels off the bench very quickly in the second half and he looks to be trusting the rookie more. If you picked him up last week, you should still be feeling pretty good. His defensive stats make him a strong asset in standard leagues.
Dec 1 - 9:47 PM

K.J. McDaniels posted career highs with 21 points and 13 rebounds against the Mavericks during a 110-103 loss on Saturday to go with one assist, one steal, two blocks, two 3-pointers and five turnovers in 32 minutes.

After the game, coach Brett Brown said McDaniels "had a lot of energy" in the loss. The rookie has been playing down the stretch for multiple games and it would appear the days of him logging minutes in the teens are over. In his last five games, he's averaged 14.0 points, 4.4 boards, 1.2 assists, 1.0 blocks, 0.8 steals and 1.4 triples on 46.3 percent from the field. This is what his patient fantasy owners have been waiting for and he could be become the best rookie to own in fantasy.
