K.J. McDaniels three-year, $10 million deal with the Rockets has a team option on the final year of the contract.
As previously stated, it'll take more than a few injuries for McDaniels to get into the rotation in Houston, so he's not going to be worth drafting in most leagues. Jul 23 - 3:17 PM

The Rockets officially re-signed restricted free agent K.J. McDaniels on Tuesday.

As long as James Harden, Trevor Ariza, and Corey Brewer are healthy, it'll be tough for McDaniels to get any meaningful playing time in Houston. He's not going to be worth drafting in most leagues.
Jul 21 - 5:11 PM

K.J. McDaniels and the Rockets have agreed on a three-year, $10 million deal.

The deal reportedly doesn't include a player option. McDaniels' 2014-15 season ended with a fractured elbow but he'll be ready for training camp, where he'll vie for minutes in a crowded wing rotation that includes James Harden, Trevor Ariza, Corey Brewer, Marcus Thornton and rookie Sam Dekker. McDaniels wasn't a fantasy option after being traded to Houston last season and we don't expect reliable value this year, either.
Jul 19 - 2:33 PM

The Rockets would like to use their mid-level exception worth $5.4 million to sign K.J. McDaniels.

The two sides are currently in discussions, although the Pelicans have also expressed interest in McDaniels. He is a restricted free agent, so the Rockets will have the opportunity to match any other offer he receives, so it's looking like there's a good chance he'll remain in Houston (especially with the departure of Josh Smith). McDaniels will have zero fantasy value playing in Houston behind Corey Brewer, Trevor Ariza, and James Harden.
Jul 16 - 6:39 PM

The New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly interested in signing K.J. McDaniels.

McDaniels would make for an interesting high-upside player on the Pelicans, but there are also reports that the 22-year-old is interested in returning to the 76ers. We'll keep an eye on where McDaniels lands as his fantasy value has a wide range of outcomes depending on where he lands.
Jul 9 - 11:54 AM

The Rockets plan on matching offers for restricted free agent K.J. McDaniels this summer, but they could also look to trade him.

McDaniels showed some flashes when he was in Philly last season, but he disappeared after he was acquired by Houston. With Trevor Ariza, James Harden and Corey Brewer on the books in Houston next season, McDaniels isn't going to have any fantasy value if the Rockets retain him.
Jul 5 - 10:09 AM

The Rockets have extended a qualifying offer to K.J. McDaniels, making him a restricted free agent.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of deal McDaniels can fetch on the open market. The Rockets will be able to match any offer he receives, although they may be forced to let him walk if another team comes in with a poison pill type offer. McDaniels is capable of putting up some low-end fantasy value in the right situation, but if he's retained by Houston, he won't be worth drafting in most leagues.
Jun 30 - 3:25 PM

The Rockets hope to retain K.J. McDaniels during free agency this offseason.

McDaniels was posting some decent low-end value as a shot blocking specialist in Philadelphia during the first-half of his rookie season, however, after he was traded to Houston he rarely left the bench. McDaniels will be a restricted free agent this offseason, and it'll be interesting to see how his free agency pans out. If he remains in Houston, his fantasy value will be non-existent in most leagues.
Jun 21 - 5:29 PM

K.J. McDaniels has been diagnosed with a non-displaced right elbow fracture, and he will likely miss the entire post-season.

McDaniels is not a major part of the Rockets' rotations, so there aren't any fantasy implications with him unavailable.
Apr 19 - 5:26 PM

K.J. McDaniels injured his wrist (likely fractured) during the Rocket's regular-season finale, and he will likely miss the entire post-season.

McDaniels was not at all a part of head coach Kevin McHale's rotations, and it's likely the rookie would have spent much of the post-season watching from the sidelines anyway, so this injury isn't going to affect Houston's playoff outlook. It is, however, an unfortunate injury for the rookie, and it'll be interest to see what kind of salary he can command on the open market when the offseason hits.
Apr 16 - 4:50 PM

K.J. McDaniels played four minutes with only two misses from the field as his only stats on Saturday.

Pablo Prigioni also played four minutes with one assist. They weren't expected to play, but coach Kevin McHale threw them both out there in garbage time. K.J. McDaniels is a top-10 player in Vines per-48 minutes, but he won't play much on his new team.
Feb 22 - 1:09 AM

K.J. McDaniels and Pablo Prigioni are not expected to play on Saturday.

Coach Kevin McHale said he just met them on Saturday night, so he probably doesn't want to re-work his rotation. What's more both players are not a lock for playing time either. McDaniels can be cut almost everywhere.
Feb 21 - 6:22 PM

K.J. McDaniels and Pablo Prigioni passed their physicals and could be in uniform for Saturday's game against the Raptors.

McDaniels is a good fit in the Rockets' system but he needs a little bit, or even a lot of luck to matter in standard fantasy leagues down the stretch. Prigioni is waiver wire fodder, regardless.
Feb 21 - 2:46 AM

The Rockets acquired K.J. McDaniels in exchange for Isaiah Canaan and a second-round pick.

Just when K.J. was coming around, he gets dealt. McDaniels will move way down the depth chart with his new team and this is also bad news in reality because he will be a free agent after this season. He can be cut in most leagues.
Feb 19 - 3:07 PM

K.J. McDaniels scored 15 points with three rebounds, one assist, one steal and one 3-pointer in 23 minutes against the Celtics during a 107-96 loss on Friday.

His numbers tend to increase when Michael Carter-Williams is out and it also helps that JaKarr Sampson had an awful game today. On the other hand, Hollis Thompson is playing well, so that's going to be a roadblock to McDaniels getting regular minutes. He's still a decent stash in fantasy leagues for his output in blocks.
