Mario Hezonja followed up Monday's huge game with 21 points on 10-of-20 shooting, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals in a tough loss vs. Charlotte on Wednesday.
Hezonja piled up four steals and three blocks in an all-around game on Monday, and he's been soaring in an expanded role without Aaron Gordon (hip). There's no stated return date for Gordon but he'll have an extended rest over the break, so Hezonja's owners should prepare for leaner stats. To be clear, he's scored 20+ points in three straight games and should obviously be held while we see how his role evolves. Feb 14 - 10:27 PM

Mario Hezonja went off again on Monday, scoring 24 points vs. the Bulls in a 105-101 loss.

The Magic clawed their way back from an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter only for Jonathon Simmons to turn the ball over on an inbounds pass on their second to last possession with the game tied. As for Hezonja, he was using cheat codes on Monday, racking up six rebounds, four steals, three blocks and three triples on 8-of-14 shooting. He's been a second-round value in standard leagues over the past two weeks with Aaron Gordon (hip) out, averaging 16.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.9 steals, 0.8 blocks and 2.5 triples. The Magic are probably are kicking themselves for declining his player option.
Feb 12 - 11:04 PM

Mario Hezonja posted a team-high 23 points in Saturday's 111-104 loss against the visiting Bucks over 35 minutes.

Hezonja has now posted 20 or more points for just the third time this season, with two of those performances coming over the past five days. He also chipped in with three rebounds and three steals, ending up 8-of-16 from the field with 1-of-5 from behind the 3-point line. Hezonja stayed put at the NBA trade deadline and that appears to be a big relief to him. He has some nice short-term fantasy value while Aaron Gordon (hip) is sidelined, too.
Feb 10 - 10:08 PM

Mario Hezonja scored eight points with 10 rebounds, two assists and three steals in a 100-98 win over the Hawks on Thursday.

He actually brought the ball up a couple times and he's locked in for big minutes at the four. Aaron Gordon (hip) still has pain and it's becoming more likely he's out until the break. Hezonja should have some nice short-term value, so he's worth a look if you need a boost in the next two weeks.
Feb 8 - 10:10 PM

The Magic are reportedly shopping Mario Hezonja and Elfrid Payton.

The Magic have made everyone aside from Jonathan Isaac and Aaron Gordon available, and there could be some incentive for them to flip Hezonja if they feel he won't re-up with them as a free agent this summer. Elfrid Payton is also bound for free agency, and most expect him to leave Orlando as a free agent this summer, so he could be another name to watch ahead of the deadline.
Feb 7 - 9:06 AM

Mario Hezonja was back in the starting lineup and went off for 20 points in Monday's 111-109 win over the Heat, hitting 7-of-14 shots and 2-of-2 free throws with five rebounds, three assists, two steals, one block and four triples.

Once considered a draft bust, Hezonja has clearly found his confidence this season and is enjoying a career year. He averaged 14.5 points, 5.1 boards, 2.1 triples, 1.8 dimes, 1.0 steal and 0.7 blocks per game on 50.0% shooting in 10 previous starts, so hopefully you were able to snatch him off the wire with Aaron Gordon (hip) already ruled out through Tuesday's game vs. the Cavaliers. He's a strong short-term pickup, but could have some nice rest-of-season value if Orlando moves some veterans at the deadline.
Feb 5 - 10:59 PM

Mario Hezonja will return to the starting lineup on Monday against Miami, sending Marreese Speights back to the bench.

Aaron Gordon (hip) will be spending his fourth straight game on the sidelines tonight, so Hezonja should be able to flirt with around 30 minutes as a starter. In 10 starts this season, Hezonja owns averages of 14.5 points, 5.1 boards, 2.1 triples, 1.8 dimes, 1.0 steal and 0.7 blocks per game on 50.0% shooting, so he's someone to consider streaming tonight.
Feb 5 - 6:18 PM

Mario Hezonja made it three straight games with double-digit points on Saturday, finishing with 15 points, four boards, two assists, two steals, a block, and three triples in 29 minutes.

The bad news is that he was only 4-of-10 from the field and had five turnovers, and while garbage time was a factor in this game, Hezonja has now played 25 minutes or more in four straight contests. Due to his potential upside and his team's current situation, Hezonja is just intriguing enough to monitor closely as we approach Thursday's trade deadline.
Feb 3 - 10:10 PM

Mario Hezonja came off the bench for 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal in 25 minutes vs. the Lakers on Wednesday.

Aaron Gordon (hip) was out tonight but the Magic opted for a big frontcourt with Marreese Speights alongside Bismack Biyombo. Hezonja still got his burn and he made the most of it with 5-of-8 shooting, including a 4-of-5 mark from downtown. As a young player on a lousy team, Hezonja is at least on the fantasy radar with the trade deadline approaching.
Jan 31 - 10:29 PM

Mario Hezonja will move to the bench on Wednesday against the Lakers.

Interesting move here from coach Frank Vogel. With Aaron Gordon (hip) out, it'll be Marreese Speights will get the start. Hezonja has played fairly well when called upon, so this move is a fairly big surprise. He's a risky DFS play now.
Jan 31 - 5:22 PM

Mario Hezonja started for Aaron Gordon (hip) on Tuesday and hit 7-of-12 shots and three 3-pointers for 17 points, three rebounds, two assists and a block in 25 minutes.

It sounds like Gordon isn't likely to play again on Wednesday and if he's out, Hezonja looks like a solid DFS option once again. As far as a long-term pickup, Gordon's injury would have to keep him out for an extended period of time for Hezonja to be worth it in most leagues.
Jan 30 - 11:39 PM

Mario Hezonja will replace Aaron Gordon (hip) in the starting lineup Tuesday vs. Houston.

Gordon is sidelined due to a strained hip flexor. Super Mario has been productive in previous starts this season. Hezonja has started nine games for Orlando in 2017-18 and is averaging 14.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 30.7 minutes over those nine starts. He's a solid DFS value play on Tuesday night.
Jan 30 - 6:35 PM

Mario Hezonja scored 12 points with two rebounds, two steals and two turnovers in 24 minutes against the Cavs on Thursday.

It seems like just yesterday Mario was in the doghouse and wasn't going to get out last year, but he's found his role as a combo forward in the second unit. Over his last five games, Hezonja averaged 11.6 points, 3.2 boards, 1.6 assists and 1.2 treys in 24.6 minutes per game. He has a lot of avenues for minutes because he plays so many positions, so he's a decent stash in deep leagues with some stand-alone value.
Jan 18 - 10:20 PM

Mario Hezonja was back to the bench Wednesday in Milwaukee, but he responded well with 13 points, four rebounds and two steals across 31 minutes.

Aaron Gordon was benched Tuesday for being late for a team flight, so Hezonja slid into the starting five. Hezonja was back to the bench, but he was way more effective than Gordon in this one. He isn't likely to move back into the starting five anytime soon, but he is one of the first options off of the bench. He remains a solid option in deeper fantasy play, and isn't a bad stash option in case Evan Fournier is moved.
Jan 10 - 10:38 PM

Mario Hezonja will come off the bench Wednesday against the Bucks.

With all the Magic forwards healthy, Hezonja might not even see his minutes reach the 20-minute mark tonight, so he's not a great target in most leagues.
