Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said Friday that he doesn't expect unrestricted free agent Joe Smith back this season.
Recently the 35-year old Smith said he'd have to be dragged out of the NBA, and we think he has another run left in him. Aside from his leadership, he has kept himself in good shape and is relatively injury-free. Look for him to find a home once the free agent dust has settled. Fri, Dec 2, 2011 08:10:00 PM

Free agent Joe Smith, 35, said he has no desire to retire.

As a locker room leader and 6-10 body, Smith will have no trouble finding work next year even though he'll be 36-years-old. "They will have to drag me out of here," Smith said of the NBA.

Lakers acquired PF Joe Smith via trade from the Nets.

Smith is the definition of a professional veteran. He's a good fit for the Lakers, who are desperate to take some burden off their starting big men. Even at age 35, Smith is capable of giving some spot minutes.

Joe Smith - F/C - Lakers

Coach Avery Johnson confirmed that Joe Smith will start at power forward in Wednesday's season opener.

Smith and Kris Humphries have been sharing time at practice, with rookie Derrick Favors also rotating in. With Smith's knees needing to be warm, it makes sense to start the veteran. This remains Troy Murphy's job as soon as he gets healthy, and all the other guys should be on waivers.

Joe Smith is expected to start at power forward for the Nets in Wednesday's season opener.

Smith is just holding the spot for Troy Murphy (back). The grizzled veteran is going to be sharing time with Derrick Favors and Kris Humphries tonight, canceling all of them out from a fantasy perspective.

The Nets officially signed forward Joe Smith on Friday.

The former No. 1 overall pick has become an NBA journeyman, and will play a reserve role off the bench for his new team.

Joe Smith is expected to sign with the Nets on Friday as long as he passes his physical.

They recently cut Sean May, giving Smith a chance of making the team. The journeyman shouldn't be worth owning in fantasy leagues this year.

Hawks coach Mike Woodson regrets his decision to use just six players in the second half of Friday's game.

"I really thought we could beat those guys [the Suns] like that but it backfired on me because their second unit beat us," said Woodson. Jamal Crawford was the only reserve to see action, though Woodson says he should have at least deployed veteran PF Joe Smith.

Hawks veteran Joe Smith (thumb) returned to action on Tuesday but was scoreless with zero rebounds in six minutes.

Smith is a solid piece for the playoff-bound Hawks, but he's unlikely to have much fantasy juice unless Josh Smith or Al Horford get injured.

Joe Smith is expected to return from his thumb injury on Tuesday night against the Cavaliers.

Smith has some deep-league fantasy potential, but is not a must-own player in any league.

Coach Mike Woodson said Tuesday that he hopes that injured Joe Smith (thumb) can return sometime after Christmas.

His return should not impact fantasy leagues, other than to steal a few minutes here and there from the Hawks' frontcourt.

Joe Smith (thumb) will not play Sunday against the Nets.

Joe Smith (dislocated thumb) will miss Friday's game against the Raptors.

Smith received treatment for the thumb while the team practiced Thursday, and it's possible he could play Sunday against the Nets. Consider him day-to-day.

Joe Smith left the Hawks blowout win over the Bulls on Wednesday with a dislocated left thumb.

We'll call him day-to-day for now, but we don't recall too many thumb dislocations happening in the NBA. Therefore, it's possible he could miss some games with the injury.
