The Timberwolves waived veteran center Mark Blount on Monday.
Blount is being waived just in time to be eligible for the playoffs -- it's possible he'll get scooped up by a team in need of frontcourt insurance. Mon, Mar 1, 2010 12:01:00 PM

The Timberwolves have asked big man Mark Blount to stay home for training camp and for his agent to seek a trade.

Blount is the second-highest paid player on the team and clearly doesn't fit into their rebuilding plans. This kind of makes you wonder why the Wolves traded Quentin Richardson to get Blount, but that's a question for David Kahn. The moves also means that newly acquired backup Ryan Hollins should get some decent run in Minnesota.

Mark Blount has been traded to Minnesota in exchange for Quentin Richardson.

This would be Blount's second stint in Minnesota though he is a good candidate to be released.

Mark Blount will miss the first two games of the Heat's first round series against the Hawks while he returns to the Caribbean to attend to a personal matter.

Blount has appeared in just three games since the beginning of February, so his absence won't have any measurable impact on the Heat's performance.

Mark Blount (personal reasons) was not with the team for Wednesday's game against the Pacers and is also expected to miss Thursday's game against the Bulls.

Blount has not been a major contributor for the Heat this season, so whatever the situation is the team will likely give him the time he needs.

Mark Blount returned to the Heat on Sunday, after missing eight games to attend a family funeral outside of the country.

Blount had no fantasy value prior to Jermaine O'Neal joining the Heat, and is now buried even further in the depth chart.

Mark Blount has left the Heat to deal with a death in the family.

Blount, whose playing time has been sporadic this season, is expected to rejoin the team in the next few days.

Mark Blount came off the bench to hit 7-of-12 shots and two 3-pointers for 17 points, eight rebounds and a block in the Heat's loss to the Pacers.

Udonis Haslem picked up a couple technicals and was ejected, helping to explain Blount's big night. Just keep your eye on Blount going forward.

Heat big man Mark Blount played on Saturday for the first time since December 14th. He had seven points and one rebound in 19 minutes.

Miami's frontcourt still has no identity beyond Udonis Haslem -- starting center Joel Anthony played less than seven minutes and Jamaal Magloire had four points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes. It's no mystery why they're in the market for a center.

Mark Blount was inactive Wednesday against the Utah Jazz.

Coach Erik Spoelstra was unsure whether Dwayne Wade (migraine) would be able to play the entire game, and kept more perimeter players active. Blount went from having a clear shot at the starter's spot to playing only once in the last nine games.

With news that Jamaal Magloire will miss a minimum of six-to-eight weeks, Mark Blount appears to be Miami's default starting center.

The Heat will likely experiment with Udonis Haslem at center, but eventually they'll need some big bodies on the court. They have 19 players under contract and are up against the luxury tax, but obviously need an upgrade at center. Expect Udonis Haslem and Shawn Marion to pop up in trade rumors, and don't bother drafting the low-rebounding, no-blocking Blount.

Mark Blount had just one rebound on Monday, marking the second straight game he has done so.

The veteran F/C added just six points and a steal in 14 minutes. Blount has been a major disappointment in March, losing time to former NBADL players despite Miami being without Shawn Marion (back) and having traded Shaquille O'Neal to Phoenix.

Mark Blount had 10 points and 12 rebounds in Wednesday's loss to the Knicks.

Blount hit just 4-of-14 shots, but with just eight players available for the Heat, everyone is going to get their touches from night to night. Ricky Davis, as usual, led the team with 27 points, Shawn Marion double-doubled with 15 points and 17 rebounds and Daequan Cook had six points, eight rebounds and two threes, but hit just 2-of-9 shots tonight.

Mark Blount hit just 1-of-3 shots for two points and two rebounds in Wednesday's loss to the Raptors.

He's struggled in his last two games, and Pat Riley might be done with him, as well as several of his teammates. "I've got to ferret out the guys who really don't care," Riley said. "I've got to ferret them out of here and just put them on the bench and bring in a bunch of young guys. The season's over for them. That's how they're playing, some of them, anyhow." Guys who could benefit from Riley's outrage are Marcus Banks, Earl Barron and Chris Quinn. Banks should be picked up in all leagues, as far as we're concerned.

Heat center Mark Blount had six points, seven rebounds, one steal, two blocks and zero turnovers in 40 minutes against the Bulls on Thursday.

Unfortunately, Blount shot an uncharacteristic 1-of-6 from the field and 4-of-8 from the free throw line. He has career averages of 51% FG and 73% FT, and will be valuable for as long as he's playing 35+ minutes.
