Former NBA big man Rasho Nesterovic has informally announced his retirement from professional basketball.
"After 17 years as pro and a lot of injuries I decided to retire," said Nesterovic. "If I cannot be at 100% it is better for me to do something else....I don't think I will be a coach, it is better to work with children." Rasho helped the Spurs win a championship in 2005, and his international career included stops in Italy, Serbia, Slovenia and Greece. Fri, Sep 2, 2011 10:04:00 AM

Veteran big man Rasho Nesterovic is close to signing with the Greek team Olympiakos.

Nesterovic hails from Slovenia and played for Greece from 1993 to 1995, but he spent the last 12 years in NBA.

Rasho Nesterovic was effective in his spot start for injured Chris Bosh (ankle) on Friday, scoring a season-high 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting with seven rebounds, four assists, and one block in 25 minutes against the Nets.

He'll likely get another start on Saturday with Bosh already expected to miss that game, but hoping for a line like this is a bit optimistic. Feel free to roll the dice with him if you're in a pinch, though, since he's likely to get good minutes against a Wizards team still getting their rotation together.

Beat writer Doug Smith guesses that Rasho Nesterovic will start in place of Chris Bosh (ankle) tonight.

Rasho will share minutes with Amir Johnson an Reggie Evans. None are even worth a spot start.

Rasho Nesterovic is reportedly being courted by Spanish club Real Madrid as the team searches for a capable center.

If the Raptors and Real Madrid cannot come to a deal, Knicks center Darko Milicic is apparently next on the club's shopping list. Neither player has been relevant in fantasy this year but would likely earn big minutes in Spain.

Rasho Nesterovic started in place of injured Andrea Bargnani (ankle) on Wednesday, but had just two points and zero rebounds in 13 minutes.

He has no value even when Bargnani is hurting.

Pacers free agent center Rasho Nesterovic will play for the Raptors this season.

He'll sign a one-year deal worth about $2 million and will likely come off the bench behind Andrea Bargnani or Chris Bosh, depending on who starts at PF and C. Nesterovic was not really worth owning for the Pacers last season, so there's not a lot of hope for him to offer much value in Toronto this season, either.

Toronto is believed to be trying to re-sign swingman Carlos Delfino and big man Rasho Nesterovic.

The Raptors have some flexibility after pulling off a four-team trade to acquire Hedo Turkoglu, and should be far enough under the cap to take a shot at signing both guys, who have played for the Raptors previously in their careers.

Rasho Nesterovic returned to action on Wednesday and hit 7-of-9 shots for 14 points and five rebounds off the bench.

It's still unclear why he missed his last game, but he's too inconsistent to be used in fantasy leagues right now.

Pacers center Rasho Nesterovic was a late scratch on Tuesday, though it's unclear why.

The timing of Rasho's absence wasn't great -- Indiana could have used his size to contain Dwight Howard. We'll post an update once we get a report on what caused his DNP.

Rasho Nesterovic had 14 points, nine rebounds and a block in Friday's loss.

Not a bad line, but with three players sharing center duties for the Pacers (Jeff Foster, Roy Hibbert), it will be tough for any to offer much consistent value.

Rasho Nesterovic came off the bench for 16 points, eight rebounds, a steal and a block in Friday's loss.

Nesterovic, Jeff Foster and Roy Hibbert are all going to split minutes at center for the Pacers, making all three tough fantasy starts at this point.

Rasho Nesterovic had 16 points, six rebounds and two blocks on 8-of-12 shooting in Friday's loss to the Pistons.

Nesterovic's scoring has been highly inconsistent this season and he's only hit double digits in rebounds two times. Tonight might be the game he needed to give himself a kick start, but see how he does in his next few games before declaring him as an answer to your team's problems at center.

Rasho Nesterovic couldn't get up for facing his former team, the Raptors, on Wednesday, missing all four of his shots, failing to score and grabbing just three rebounds.

Jeff Foster had 10 points and 12 boards tonight and there's been talk of Nesterovic losing his job to rookie Roy Hibbert or possibly even Foster. Rasho's been quite inconsistent this season, so feel free to drop him if you have other options at center. Dropping Nesterovic for Matt Bonner, or possibly Nick Collison, would seem to make perfect sense right now.

Pacers coach Jim O'Brien has considered starting rookie Roy Hibbert at center in place of Rasho Nesterovic, but decided against it for now because of Rasho's superior passing abilities.

"Rasho is so valuable from the standpoint of getting us off to good starts," O'Brien said. Hibbert has been in and out of the rotation, but is worth watching --especially in deeper leagues-- as the season progresses.
