Tyronn Lue will rejoin the Cavs on Friday, but will not coach the team.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Lue will be an "observer" on Friday and "the plan is for him to hopefully ease his way back into a full-time coaching role over the Cavs' four-game homestand that extends until Thursday." Mar 30 - 11:05 AM

Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue has taken a leave of absence because of health issues.

Lue has been dealing with chest pains and a lack of sleep all season but it's only gotten worse. "I am going to use this time to focus on a prescribed routine & medication, which has previously been difficult to start in the midst of a season," Lue said. "My goal is to come out of it a stronger and healthier version of myself so I can continue to lead this team to the championship" We wish Lue all the best and hope to see him back on the sidelines soon. Associate head coach Larry Drew will hold down the fort in the meantime.

Following Tuesday's 114-102 loss to the Spurs, Tyronn Lue said he will be making a change to his starting lineup.

The most obvious candidates to head to the bench on Friday would be either J.R. Smith or Jae Crowder. Smith has been flat out terrible lately and has acknowledged that he's not been "playing up to his standards," so it wouldn't be terribly surprising to see Dwyane Wade replace him at the two-spot. Another option for Lue could be moving Tristan Thompson back into the starting five, with Kevin Love shuffling back to the four-spot and Jae Crowder heading to the second unit. Cleveland will practice on Thursday, so perhaps we'll get a hint of the changes that are coming at that point.

Ty Lue is sick on Thursday and assistant Larry Drew will take over head coaching duties vs. the Bulls.

There are no discernible fantasy implications of Lue's absence. More pertinent is the absence of J.R. Smith, which will bump Channing Frye into the starting lineup -- presumably Tristan Thompson didn't get the nod due to minute restrictions.

The Cavaliers officially announced that Koby Altman will take over as the new general manager.

"Over the past month, Koby Altman has led our front office group through this transition period, impressing many inside the franchise and outside the organization, as well," Cavs owner Dan Gilbert said. "Koby has the credentials, knowledge, experience and instincts to be an outstanding General Manager." Altman won't have much time to settle in, as his first order of business is to figure out what to do with disgruntled superstar Kyrie Irving.

The Cavaliers are finalizing a deal to promote Koby Altman to general manager, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of

The timing is obvious with the Cavs now dealing with the Kyrie Irving trade request. The ownership still has some issues to work out, but at least they're making progress up top.

Coach Tyronn Lue said that the Cavs need to be far more physical against the Warriors in Game 2 of the Finals on Sunday.

The Warriors scored 56 points in the paint on Thursday in Game 1, yet the Cavs only sent Golden State to the free throw line 16 times. Cleveland cannot allow the Warriors to waltz into the paint if they hope to stop the Dubs juggernaut offense. Also, the Cavs became the first team in NBA history to fail to record a steal on the defensive end in a Finals game and only forced a total of only four turnovers. Cleveland clearly needs to step up their defensive intensity in Game 2.

Cavs coach Tyronn Lue hinted on Monday that he may be willing to sacrifice the top seed in the East in order to rest his best players.

The Cavs are currently a half game behind Boston; however, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving are second and 14th in the NBA in minutes, respectively. Speaking with reporters, Lue explained he had been a part of teams in the past where the coaching staff decided resting key players was more important than playoff positioning. "It's crossed my mind," Lue said. "I might get in trouble [with NBA commissioner Adam Silver], so I don't know." For what it's worth, LeBron said: "Coach is going to have his logic of things, but at the end of the day, we need to play."

Coach Tyronn Lue admitted that it will be a challenge to find minutes for all his players once the Cavs are fully healthy.

On Friday, Lue said the J.R. Smith (thumb) would be back in the "next 10 days to two weeks." Andrew Bogut will play in his first game on Monday. Kevin Love (knee) is expected to return later this month. "I don't know how I'm going to use all of these people I got yet," Lue said. "I got three players coming back. And now we're trying to implement D-Will right now. So it's going to be a process, but it's a great process to have when we've got great players that now we have a roster of 12 guys that should be playing."

The Cavaliers and coach Tyronn Lue agreed on a five-year, $35 million extension.

Lue was brought on during the season for a first-place Cavs team and took home a title. He's not the greatest coach with lineup adjustments just yet and isn't the greatest play-caller either. Of course, it helps to have LeBron James. The Cavs figure to play Tristan Thompson at the five more often next season.

Head coach Tyronn Lue and the Cavaliers have begun negotiating a contract extension, according to Chris Haynes of

While Lue didn't have any major eye-catching adjustments in the playoffs, winning an NBA title against a 73-9 team gives him a lot of leverage. The 39-year-old coach obviously has LeBron James behind him and his owner seems committed to building a championship team for the foreseeable future. Additionally, the Cavs picked up the option on assistant coach Larry Drew.

Tyronn Lue has been fined $25,000 for his public criticism of the officials following Game 4.

Lue commented on LeBron James' lack of foul calls following Friday's Game 4 loss, and his wallet will pay the price. The Cavs won't have to deal with Draymond Green (suspended) in Game 5, so expect Lue to take advantage of that with an onslaught of pick-and-roll sets. Cleveland could also go big more often, which would present more opportunities for Kevin Love to get on the floor.

Tyronn Lue said he won't be scared to play his big lineup against the Warriors.

The Warriors smaller lineup can present challenges to opposing teams, but Lue is confident the Cavs big men can continue to be effective. While Timofey Mozgov hasn't played much in the postseason, he had some success against the Warriors in the 2015 NBA Finals and could be dusted off for 10-15 minutes per game. Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, and Channing Frye will continue to see the majority of Cleveland's "big" minutes.

LeBron James recently gave a ringing endorsement for Tyronn Lue as Cleveland's head coach.

"I knew what he was capable of," James said. "I've had a long history with Coach Lue. ... I just always believed he was ready for the moment if the moment presented itself." LeBron is not alone in his assessment, and veteran James Jones—a strong voice in the locker room—had an even more emphatic stance. "Just look at him. Look at how we respond to him. He connects with us and he's done a great job of helping us connect the dots and see the plan, the vision and how every step is necessary."

Tyronn Lue said the Cavaliers may sit some players against the Nets on Friday.

While Lue said it's only a possibility, fantasy owners should be prepared for at least one of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love to sit against the Nets. We'll keep an eye on reports after shootaround on Friday, but it wouldn't be a shock to see Lue rest one or more of his stars against the lowly Nets.
