Elton Brand said he wants to return to the Mavs next season.
Brand made just over $2 million this season and is slated for unrestricted free agency. He was a solid depth option for the Mavs and had stretches of usefulness for fantasy purposes. We'd guess his return to Dallas likely depends on the Mavs' other free-agent options, like landing Dwight Howard. Apr 20 - 11:57 AM

Date:

Elton Brand, who didn't get off the bench on Sunday, is expected to play on Monday.

Rick Carlisle said that because Brand got last night off, he expects to use him tonight. Brand has been highly unreliable, but if you're desperate for a big man who will play tonight, Brand looks like an option.
Apr 15 - 6:43 PM

Elton Brand (calf) returned to action on Friday, playing 14 minutes with two points, four rebounds and two blocks.

Brand hit 1-of-3 shots and until he shows owners something he can remain on the wire in most formats.
Apr 13 - 2:31 AM

Elton Brand is warming up and is expected to play against the Nuggets on Friday.

He's missed four games with a sore right calf and his absence has allowed Brandan Wright and Chris Kaman to make a splash in fantasy leagues. Wright and Kaman could lose a handful of minutes, but their owners shouldn't panic in deeper leagues.
Apr 12 - 8:25 PM

Elton Brand (calf) has a chance to make his return on Friday vs. Denver.

Brand was expected to be in uniform on Wednesday, and although he was, he wound up not playing. This time, it sounds like he's got a better chance to play, but it's not clear what kind of minutes limit he's going to be on or if he'll play for certain. We don't expect him to make an impact for fantasy owners.
Apr 12 - 12:18 PM

Elton Brand (calf) will not play against the Suns on Wednesday.

He will likely be in uniform, but the team does not expect him to play. His sore right calf has now cost him four games. Chris Kaman exploded for 26 points on Sunday while Brandan Wright wasn't too shabby with a 13-point, nine-board line. Both players should have success tonight against Phoenix's soft interior D.
Apr 10 - 7:53 PM

Rick Carlisle expects Elton Brand (calf) to be in uniform against the Suns on Wednesday, but it's not clear if he'll play.

Even if Brand does manage to get back into the action, it will likely be in a very limited role to protect him. Chris Kaman and Brandan Wright are both playing well enough to earn most of the minutes alongside Dirk Nowitzki.

Elton Brand (calf) is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Suns.

Brand has missed the three previous games. He was able to participate in Tuesday's practice, putting him in line to return for his usual 15-20 minutes come Wednesday. It's a slight blow to Chris Kaman's suddenly resurgent fantasy value.
Apr 9 - 4:55 PM

Elton Brand (calf) was unable to suit up for Sunday's game vs. the Blazers.

He went through part of shootaround and was a game-time decision, so hopefully his third straight DNP will be his last.
Apr 7 - 11:37 PM

Elton Brand (calf) participated in some of Sunday's shootaround and is a game-time decision for Sunday's night game in Portland.

"It's the preverbal game-time [decision]," Brand said. He missed the last two games with a sore right calf, which can be a tough injury to shake. Brand has lost most of his fantasy value, but if he plays, it could hurt Brandan Wright and Chris Kaman.
Apr 7 - 2:16 PM

Elton Brand (sore right calf) will not play against the Kings on Friday.

He missed Thursday's game and he said that his calf is "not progressing well." Brandan Wright was solid with 16 points on Thursday and Chris Kaman has a chance to double-double tonight, as well. Brand can be cut just about across the board.
Apr 5 - 8:54 PM

Elton Brand's calf is "not progressing like we expected it to," according to Brand.

"It's not getting better," he said. "I'm in no way trying to shut it down. It's like a game-to-game situation." Brand played through pain for two games before sitting out on Thursday, and it's not clear when he might be able to return.

Apr 5 - 10:14 AM

Elton Brand will not play against the Nuggets on Thursday due to a sore right calf.

He played in just 14.5 minutes per game over his previous two and was losing ground to Chris Kaman and Brandan Wright. The Nuggets lead the league in scoring in the paint, so Rick Carlisle might be calling on Wright to play a little more. Kaman also played 20 minutes on Wednesday and could be a factor, as well. Brand can remain on almost all waiver wires and could miss more games.
Apr 4 - 7:39 PM

Elton Brand had 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks in his return to the Mavericks' rotation on Sunday, playing 18 minutes in a reserve role.

EB's DNP on Friday seemed to give him some extra pep in his step -- he made all five of his field goal attempts, and he even chipped in three dimes and one steal without any turnovers. Chris Kaman was the low man on the totem pole tonight, scoring four points with three turnovers in just eight minutes.
Mar 24 - 10:29 PM

Elton Brand started at center in place of Chris Kaman on Sunday, finishing a tough loss to the Thunder with four points, four boards, three steals and one block in 21 minutes.

This was the Mavericks' 21st unique starting lineup of the season, which sums up the tumultuous nature of Rick Carlisle's rotations. Brand has decent upside for FG percentage, points, rebounds and blocks, but it's anyone's guess how long he'll last as a starter.
