Metta World Peace said he plans to play 20 seasons before retiring.
World Peace just wrapped up his 14th season, which saw him post some of his best numbers in years. While it's good that he's confident, six years is a very long time, especially when World Peace will turn 34 in November. We remain skeptical that the player formerly known as Ron Artest will still be able to contribute by the end of this decade, but stranger things have happened. Jun 6 - 3:34 PM

Metta World Peace's surgically-repaired knee is now fully healed.

World Peace remarkably returned less than two weeks after having knee surgery during the season, but he wasn't himself after returning and ultimately had to shut it down. He should be fully healthy going into next year, and although he's yet to make a decision about his player option, a source told the Los Angeles Daily News that Peace is expected to opt in. Considering he's set to make $7.7 million by doing so, it should be an easy decision.
Jun 5 - 8:27 AM

Metta World Peace said he will leave his opt out decision up to agent Marc Cornstein.

World Peace's one-year option is worth $7.7 million. Coming off a bounce-back year that saw him average 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 3-pointers and 1.5 assists, it's possible he could get land a two-year worth a little more on the open market. It's also possible that if he opts in, the Lakers will amnesty him. Cornstein has a lot to work through before the June 25 deadline for a decision.

Metta World Peace said he "definitely" thinks he'll be a Laker next season.

World Peace has a player option for a little over $7.7 million next season and we'd be shocked if he didn't exercise it. However, there's a lot of talk about the Lakers using their amnesty exemption on World Peace and buying him out before attempting to re-sign Dwight Howard. World Peace has a bounce-back season in 2012-13, averaging 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 3-pointers and 1.5 assists in 33 minutes per game. If the Lakers do cut bait, we imagine he'll lock on somewhere.
Apr 29 - 2:17 PM

Metta World Peace (knee) will not play against the Spurs on Sunday in Game 4.

Earl Clark is going to get the start and the Lakers are basically rolling with a D-League team in the playoffs. Antawn Jamison will be called upon for some scoring boost, but the Spurs shouldn't have any problem closing out this series at Staples Center.
Apr 27 - 4:25 PM

Metta World Peace said that he's doubtful for Sunday's Game 4 vs. the Spurs.

"I wasn’t effective," World Peace said. "There's no sense to stay in if we have guys who can win. We’ll win Sunday." He might want to talk to his psychiatrist after that quote. Kidding aside, the Lakers have been dealing the injury bug about as bad as any team in recent memory and they're going to be in deep, deep trouble. Antawn Jamison will likely get more time at small forward, but it's unlikely to make a difference for the decimated Lakers.
Apr 27 - 1:59 AM

Metta World Peace is dealing with a Baker's Cyst in his knee, and he had it drained in advance of Friday's Game 3 vs. the Spurs.

World Peace tweeted the photo and was not listed on the Lakers injury report, so we expect him to play in Game 3, but it's another indication that he's not anywhere close to 100 percent after returning extremely early from knee surgery. A Baker's Cyst is a term for swelling behind the knee due to an irregular buildup of fluid, a possible side effect after World Peace returned from surgery far earlier than anticipated.
Apr 26 - 12:05 PM

Metta World Peace said his knee is "getting better every day."

"Every day it's getting back to normal," he added. World Peace has been moved back into the starting lineup and played 29 minutes on Sunday, so MWP should be pretty close to full strength for the postseason if the Lakers can beat the Rockets on Wednesday.
Apr 16 - 9:08 AM

Metta World Peace returned just 12 days after knee surgery and had four points, one assist and one 3-pointer in 15 minutes on Tuesday.

He's not going to be at full strength until the playoffs get here, meaning he may not be worth owning in fantasy the rest of the way.
Apr 10 - 2:06 AM

Updating a previous item, Metta World Peace (knee surgery) will play on Tuesday against the Hornets, but he will not start.

Mike D'Antoni said MWP is ready to go, and it's pretty unbelievable he'll be back in action. He'll likely be on some kind of minutes limit for his first game back (Mike D'Antoni guessed around 20 minutes), and because he'll come off the bench, Jodie Meeks will keep his spot in the starting lineup for now. Steve Nash (hip, hamstring) is officially out.
Apr 9 - 1:46 PM

Metta World Peace (knee surgery) expects to play on Tuesday against New Orleans.

World Peace had knee surgery in late March, and after it was revealed he would miss "at least six weeks," MWP is set to return to the lineup just two weeks after the procedure. It's an unbelievable recovery for World Peace, but he's not expected to be at 100 percent health. "All the guys under contract, injured or not injured, we all need each other," he said. Jodie Meeks will move back to the bench as long as World Peace is out there.
Apr 9 - 9:04 AM

Metta World Peace (knee surgery) played 3-on-3 on Monday, and he will play vs. the Hornets on Tuesday if there are no setbacks.

Unbelievable. Metta had knee surgery in late March and was expected to miss six weeks, which was revised to 4-6 weeks, and now it seems he could play less than two weeks after the procedure. We'll temper our expectations until we see him on the court, but his return will threaten Earl Clark's recent uptick in production.
Apr 8 - 3:40 PM

Metta World Peace will test his surgically-repaired knee this week, less than two full weeks after having the procedure.

For context, Chase Budinger had a similar injury and was out from early November through the late March. MWP will run at 90 percent of his body weight before evaluating whether he can run with full body weight on Tuesday. If he goes through that without any setbacks, he'll attempt to practice and is eyeing a return before the regular season ends. Mike D'Antoni said MWP is "way ahead of schedule," and the enigmatic forward has spent the last three days running and doing shooting drills.
Apr 8 - 8:52 AM

Metta World Peace's timetable has dropped from six weeks to 4-6 weeks.

He's still out for the rest of the regular season and the sooner part of the new timetable would bring him back towards the tail end of the first round of the NBA playoffs. Jodie Meeks, Earl Clark and Antawn Jamison have helped fill the void with Clark coming on lately.

Metta World Peace (knee surgery) has already ditched his crutches and was "very pleased" with his surgical procedure.

MWP didn't say if he was ahead of schedule, but the fact he's already off crutches is a positive sign. It's not clear exactly what his timetable looks like, but he was expected to miss at least six weeks and it would be a huge surprise to see him again this year unless the Lakers can make a deep playoff run.
