Hornets assistant coach Patrick Ewing said he'd "love to go back to New York" in an interview with CBS Sports Radio.
"My family is still there, I still have a home there," Ewing said. "I’m not sure what is going to happen in terms of who they’re going to have to fill that void but if I get a call, I’m ready." The Knicks are not really close with any particular candidate to take their head-coaching position, but Ewing is probably not a top-five choice. On the other hand, the Knicks are expected to go after Derek Fisher. Jun 2 - 10:25 AM

The Bobcats have hired Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing as their associate head coach.

Ewing was an assistant coach along with new Bobcats head coach Steve Clifford in both Houston and Orlando. He also has a relationship with owner Michael Jordan from their battles in the Knicks vs. Bulls rivalry of the 90s. Ewing will try to help develop a Bobcats' undermanned front line that includes Bismack Biyombo, Josh McRoberts and Byron Mullens. Maybe one day he'll land a head coaching job of his own.

Patrick Ewing will interview for the lead assistant role on the Bobcats coaching staff.

Ewing said "Charlotte is a great city and I'm open-minded," he said. "I have worked with Steve for many years in Houston and Orlando and I consider him a friend." It doesn't hurt that Ewing is also friendly with Michael Jordan, and it wouldn't surprise us to see him in Charlotte before long.

Patrick Ewing could join the Bobcats coaching staff as an assistant under Steve Clifford.

Ewing has always been eyeing a head coach job, but it's unclear if he wants to leave the Knicks at this time. He is a longtime friend of Michael Jordan, so that could play a role in his decision.

Patrick Ewing recently turned down the head coaching job with the Knicks' D-League affliliate, the Erie Bayhawks.

Ewing has been an assistant and/or 'big man' coach with the Magic, Rockets and Wizards, but he's been turned down over and over for head coaching positions. Hope springs eternal, however, and Ewing clearly isn't interested in leaving the NBA.

"A lot of people try to pigeonhole me into just a big man’s coach," said Ewing, who has been lobbying for a head coaching job for years. Five other candidates have interviewed thus far -- John Kuester, Mike Woodson, Lawrence Frank, Bill Laimbeer and Kelvin Sampson.

Magic assistant coach Patrick Ewing hopes that he'll be considered for the Nets' vacant head coaching position.

Ewing isn't being too picky these days. He's willing to commandeer the historically bad 0-17 Nets, but there is no indication that the interest is mutual. "I still live in New Jersey," said Ewing. "I just want an opportunity. Yes, I would love to coach the Nets."

Patrick Ewing will remain as assistant coach with the Orlando Magic next season as the Magic have decided to extend his contract.

Ewing had entertained the possibility of being a head coach but decided to hang around another season after a lack of interest around the league. His presence is cited as a reason for Dwight Howard's emergence as a dominant center.

Patrick Ewing recently guaranteed that the Magic will win Game 7 in Boston on Sunday.

"Patrick Ewing did that? We feel great about that," said Celts coach Doc Rivers. (Ewing famously made numerous guarantees as a player that he couldn't back up.) Sunday's game will be just the third Game 7 in Magic franchise history, while the storied Celtics are 20-5.

Patrick Ewing attended Tuesday's pre-draft camp and expressed his disappointment that the Knicks didn't interview him before eventually hiring head coach Mike D'Antoni.

"I'm disappointed I didn't get a call," Ewing admitted. "I think I'm an up and coming coach. I think I'm going to be a good head coach one day. Even if I don't get the job, I felt I deserved at least to get an interview." Ewing is probably bitter that the Knicks didn't even hire him as an assistant, despite his being mentioned as a candidate during D'Antoni's introductory press conference. His public griping, however, won't do him any favors down the road.

Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said on Thursday that Patrick Ewing is unlikely to be selected as one of his assistant coaches.

Ewing is currently an assistant coach with the Magic, and will be the head coach of their Summer League team. He was reportedly upset that Donnie Walsh didn't invite him to interview for the head coaching job, though we're not exactly sure why he thought he was qualified in the first place.

Mike D'Antoni said on Thursday that former Knicks great Patrick Ewing will be considered for an assistant coaching position. Ewing, who has coached Yao Ming and Dwight Howard, could be hired to work with big men Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph.

Ewing is under contract with the Magic, but they would not prevent him from rejoining the Knicks. Dan D'Antoni is expected to join his brother's staff, while Herb Williams is the only assistant coach expected to remain from Isiah Thomas' old crew.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Patrick Ewing is considering an offer from new Magic coach Stan Van Gundy to return to the team as an assistant.

Ewing's final NBA season (2001-02) was with the Magic, and since then he's spent three years as an assistant coach in the Houston organization under Stan's brother Jeff and he also spent time as a Wizards' assistant. If Ewing comes aboard it could be great news for Dwight Howard, providing the young Magic superstar with a big man to help mentor him.
